2661  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC/FC exchange via Google Docs [Bid 21 LTC | Ask 19.75 LTC] on: April 28, 2013, 06:38:08 PM
Just so the noobs are aware, you can now buy and sell these Feathercoins at: https://cryptonit.net/exchange/ltc/ftc

The going rate there is 33 LTC per 1k FC.

I assume most people buying here are re-selling at cryptonit to make an instant profit.

The volume is low. Would love to see more people on there.. I had to fight to get withdraw to work, some aren't going to want to bother with the lock-ups.  Seems to be running better than this morning which is a plus.

If you want to mess with the exchange, please have it! If you want quick direct transfers (see my record), drop me a PM.

Running quick and smooth for me. Sold 6k of FTC at 0.028 on there earlier. Thought I got a good deal at the time lol.

As for low volume there is >120k of buy orders above 22ltc per 1k.

Smoothie will troll you to the ends of the earth if you release this coin  Smiley

I'm not necessarily against a (small) pre-mine to reward the development effort, but only if the coin offers new ideas and takes time to develop. Otherwise... you know how it looks
2664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: http://ripplescam.org/ on: April 27, 2013, 06:18:47 PM
It's funny how the Ripple developers and shills on this board refuse to tout Ripple as a competitor to Bitcoin and say they are supposed to complement each other but in the news press lately people high up in the company are being quoted as positioning Ripple to be a Bitcoin competitor.

I encourage everyone that is anti-Ripple to make comments in any news articles mentioning Ripple about that 80 billion XRP the ripple foundation has awarded itself (80% of the entire coin supply).
2665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think Feathercoins will be a succes on: April 27, 2013, 06:13:24 PM
The name comes from feather to signify lightness ('light as a feather'). It's supposed to be lighter than litecoin.

You are awesome for pointing that out, didn't cross my mind!

Great information.

Cheers guys  Cool Spread the info on if you see someone else wondering some other day!

It's just Litecoin with 4x the amount of coins that will end up being generated. Unless there is something else major that differentiates it from the rest of the alts, I can't see it lasting. I mean, Bytecoin barely seems to get a mention at the moment. Wink

People stopped mining Bytecoin because an ASIC started mega mining it, which caused the difficulty to jump to an absurdly high level and then the ASIC left the network, leaving the difficulty sky high for weeks.

+1
I agree, like I said in another post it seems a logical progression.
+2.

I see a bright future for feathercoin. People are mining it like crazy and show no signs of slowing down.

I really think the best thing Sunny King could do for the development of proof of stake currency is to discuss the potential weaknesses of the current system, what is currently done to combat those, and what ideas he might have for the future. I'd like to get involved, but I feel there's not enough clear information out there for me to get a good grasp of how the current implementation works and where its weaknesses may lie. I'd be extremely interested to read about this and I think proof of stake cryptocurrency is a worthy cause and, if done right, I imagine it could have both efficiency and security advantages over traditional proof of stake coins.

As far as I am aware there are no known vulnerabilities. It's just FUD.

There's a huge number of PPCoins traded daily and they are worth over 30 cents, if there was some known exploit it would have been carried out.

... Uh, what?
You could have said the exact same thing about Terracoin until quite recently, when the known exploit WAS carried out.
You could have said the same thing about BITCOIN until the external dependency bug that caused the blockchain to split in 2...

You would make a very poor software engineer if your security analysis was based on "Well, people are using it, and it works fine, so let's not even address this known method of attack simply because it hasn't happened yet."

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't work because we are trying to plan for things that might break, i.e. obvious vulnerabilities that could be taken advantage of in a realistic situation.

The Terracoin saga backs up what I am saying. It's called empirical justification. People were at one point deliberately attacking Terracoin and trying to do double spends. You think they weren't trying to attack PPCoin either? Of course they were. Terracoin also crumbled under the pressure of ASICs. Do you think those ASICs decided not to bother mining PPCoin?

PPCoin has stood up to every challenge thrown at it so far. At the end of the day, empirically withstanding testing 'out in the wild' breeds confidence... it's what Bitcoin has had to do. Despite all the papers and discussions on it, there is no mathematical proof that the entire Bitcoin protocol is fail-safe. And no-one said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it', your reading comprehension is awful, so please spare me the condescension. And as for, "let's not even address this known method of attack", try reading my first sentence again and ask yourself why you're trying to say that to me.

2671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC/FC exchange via Google Docs [Bid 20 LTC | Ask 15 LTC] on: April 26, 2013, 09:39:13 PM
It seems like most of these unfortunate scams involve a member who has registered in the last week... often in the last couple of days. I don't think I've seen any FC scams yet from members with a decent registration date and post count. Just something for people to remember.

Another tip is, if you've done a couple of successful deals, get people to post feedback in your topic. And then when doing further deals with other people point to the feedback and say you want coins sent to you first. That is what I did and everyone was happy to send apart from one suspicious person... if you have good feedback only a scammer or someone very paranoid won't send some coins first.

Final tip, do the deal in chunks if you are not comfortable. Worst comes to worst, you will only lose a chunk of the coins rather than the whole lot.
2672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Petition BTC-e to add FC Feathercoin! And 20 000 FC Bounty For First FC Exchange on: April 26, 2013, 09:31:20 PM

This, what's going to be next month??

Also,

I've never seen an alt coin take off as quickly as FC. Period.

because so many people missed btc and they are now trying to be an early adopter jumping on the lowest diff coin

Yes, since they missed the boat by not joining 2 years ago they want to be early adopters of a new coin that will hopefuly make them rich in the future, which is good for them, the only people that lose are the idiots that exchange their BTC or LTC for this crapcoins

I have >100k Litecoins, what is my excuse for having Feathercoins?

These feathers are worth a punt imo. Terracoin which is a blatant BTC copy has done really well for itself and that is with all it's problems and being exploited by ASICs. A copy of Litecoin, which by it's nature is ASIC resistant could potentially do very nicely. No-one thinks they will overthrow Litecoins, that would be silly and wouldn't make sense, but I see no reason why they can't be worth a fair bit one day. There are no guarantees of course, but I think it's worth having a few of them in a wallet because you never know.
2673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Pirate Bay now accepts Litecoin donations on: April 26, 2013, 07:53:44 PM
People who don't know about Litecoin but know about Bitcoin will see it and wonder what it is. I know there are people like this because my Boss (who once mined Bitcoin years back but stopped) didn't know about Litecoin until i introduced him to it.

It will also make people who hold Bitcoin but are on the fence about Litecoin stand up and take notice.

It's a very positive step in the right direction.
2674  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FeatherCoin Exchange Bounty Claimed on: April 26, 2013, 06:39:02 PM
I say wait a month before a bounty is rewarded. What's to stop them offering Feathercoins for a 2 days and then taking them back down... Or what if they have problems.
2675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The Pirate Bay now accepts Litecoin donations on: April 26, 2013, 05:46:36 PM
Don't know if I am allowed to post a link here, but The Pirate Bay now accepts Litecoin donations. It's on their front page.

Litecoin is breaking through into the mainstream!
2676  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New users, avoid using https://btc-e.com/ on: April 24, 2013, 08:42:03 PM
I have never had problems and did a $30kUSD bank wire out of there a couple of weeks back no problem.

However there have been so many people posting about hacks or withdrawals being denied that it makes me wary.

I think part of it stems from Terracoin hardforking and people unwittingly traded coins that weren't real which led to btc-e freezing accounts. And there have been some bruteforced accounts it seems. Anything else that people know of?

I would recommend if you have to do trades on there, get your coins off the site straight afterwards lol.

Don't do this please.

Btw a FC exchange is coming soon.

2680  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who on earth valued feather coin so high on: April 23, 2013, 10:54:24 PM
another alt coin can succeed, if and only if it has benefits over previous coins...

So what's the benefit of the Argentine Peso over the Brazilian real?

[EDIT] You sound like God  Wink ... maybe go have a read at your own motto ("Minds are like parachutes they work best when open")

I am sorry I looked in this thread at all.  All the best.

Something needs to be done about the complete forum hijack for FC marketing purposes imho.  It has become unusable and impossible to sort through the spam to get to serious topics.

This is the alternative cryptocurrencies forum.  Plus if we are at this point, why are we allowing Ripple to dominate 1/3 or so of the posts along with half of the other crypto's that are known scams with hundreds of thousands in pre-mines?

Exactly. This forum represents the readers and contributors. If that means a lot of Feathercoin hype at present so be it. People who are so against Feathercoin saying it has no future, well if that is the case given time Feathercoin topics will trickle to zero quickly  Wink I think Feathercoin is here to stay though, and checking the estimated difficulty just now it's gone up even further...
