I tried to report such posts and got BAD. What is the point of such posts and why the moderators do not consider them low-value posts remains a mystery to me.
I can't talk for other moderators, but generally recently made posts I'll have a little more tolerance for. So, if they've posted today, and it's reported I'd just leave it unhandled, and keep an eye on the post. Although, for the most part these posts are weeks old, and they get deleted by me for sure. Some of them are years old. So, yeah I delete them. The only one's I don't are the reserve posts by the original poster of the thread. However, anyone else that posts these random letters gets deleted or any bounty submissions which don't have anything filled out, and have been there for a decent amount of time will get deleted. Honestly, I'm not a fan of users posting this type of content. It's spam at the end of the day.

Basically, for me the longer its been there the quicker I remove it.

Lately, spam activity has moved in a different direction, as far as I know, and it is invisible to most users, but the moderators definitely know about it. This is a crazy activity of phishers who spam links in the mining and altcoin sections. I have been watching this since 2021, thousands of bans in the modlog of various newbies and fresh registrations. I wonder how this spammer or a group of spammers managed to get so many IP addresses to register thousands of accounts and evade a proxy ban?
Yeah, and bounties will continue to be a problem likely. This has always happened, but I've noticed, and I know a few other moderators have noticed, but users reserving posts, and never coming back to it at all. This is quite common with bounty threads. Instead of filling out their details like the other bounty submission posts, they just leave it blank, and go onto another thread, and do the exact same. It's like they're trying to secure a spot on the bounty, and do that across various projects trying to maximize their chances. I don't know how many of those I've deleted recently.

Reserving posts has always been a problem, but not on this scale.

This does not work even in normal markets: no one will allow you to dump or profit from a monopoly position in a normal market. All players that harm the market itself are removed/penalized so that the market remains a market. Clubs that spend more than they earn harm not only themselves (no one cares about the owners and how they want to burn their money) but all other clubs - this is the main problem that needs to be solved.
Right. Although, at the moment it just doesn't get enforced enough. Unfortunately, I see it being enforced a lot less in the coming years, since we seem to be having more rich owners buy into the Premier League. I know we've had Man City, Liverpool, and United for a while now with decent sets of money. However, Liverpool never really competed with City or United in terms of finances. Now, we've got Newcastle who's basically got enough money to take the league by storm, and the only real limit for them, and City is the regulations, and they've been known to skirt around them too.

I don't like how football is changing, it used to be about the football, and the grass roots of it. So, basically any team could progress, and we have magic like Leicester winning the league for example. However, that's not going to be the case the more rich owners that come in, and spend a ton of money, which is what we're seeing in the last couple of years. I mean, Liverpool was up for sale for around 3-4 billion pounds. That's crazy, and who's going to be able to afford that or justify that, other than stinking rich, country sized companies or even countries themselves.

So, I really like Maddalena, and I'd normally fancy him over most of the competition, but Randy Brown is worrying me. Maddalena can be a little sloppy at times, and he could get caught, and knocked out. Also, looking forward to seeing Jamie Mullarkey again. He'll be high on my list of favourites that's for sure. A real tough fighter, and leaves everything in the octagon. Honestly, this is a good event this weekend, I feel like a lot of people are sleeping on this. Some very good matchups, and I see some potential for money earned.

Anyway, some talks going around that Emmett has some sort of hip injury coming into this fight.  Not sure about it tho.  It could be just that.  Rumors.
Where are you hearing these rumours? I swear, sometimes I feel like I go in blind because I never really hear this type of thing, and just bet on tape I've watched in the past. Knowing some of this insider stuff could be what gives me my big break Tongue.
285  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can we experience $80k this year? on: February 08, 2023, 08:55:25 PM
Why are you so certain that we will continue to grind up just because we had a jump from 20k to 24k? A 20% increase in price of bitcoin or literally any asset at all doesn't guarantee anything.
In fact, someone could argue that if the price jumps up suddenly or a small period then it could potentially be subject to a bounce back or a correction. So yeah, quick rises actually make me worry that a correction will happen, and then users react to that negatively further driving down the price. Unfortunately, we're in one of those scenarios where Bitcoin will react to even the smallest negative news. I don't know if 4k in a matter of weeks is going to be enough for a correction, but definitely if it jumps have 1,000s in a few days I'd be expecting a correction at some point.

Although, this is probably the most positive I've seen this section in a while. It's nice to see, instead of all the gloom, and doom recently.
286  Other / Meta / Re: Request: "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board + Poll on: February 08, 2023, 08:46:56 PM
And that's not even counting the discussions about cybersecurity/privacy - these all resemble "howtos", the kind of stuff you'd make tutorials out of.

There are enough threads here to make a small board out of. Even when you consider that many of these threads have been made recently, you could still fill at least 2 pages with these topics.

That has me questioning whether we can justify the subboards of a cybersecurity and privacy board at all. Perhaps volume will be the same as other boards if we just combine everything together into one board?
I know that theymos likes to see existing threads, and then make a section for it. I respect that, but I know for a fact that having a security section would encourage users to talk more about it, and personally because I'm very passionate about the subject, I'd be all for experimenting with it, and seeing how it does. I mean we have the serious discussion section which is the only other section I'd be interested in maybe posting about security related topics, but then that section isn't very active anyhow. Plus, it prevents some users from participating which I don't really want to do.

There's actually a lot of discussion about security, but they can fit into other sections. Something about wallets for example, is going to go into the appropriate wallet section, since that would be the better fit. Even, if we did have a security section, it would still go into the corresponding wallet section.

Unfortunately, this spam reduction has a downside. All the same with spam, the number of active users and the total number of published posts also decreased:
Yeah, but also the amount of activity in peak levels was due to the ICO/bounty craze, which we're still recovering from. That wasn't real activity it was just users coming in to post spam. I'd rather smaller activity, and real discussion than that.

That's what most reports are these days is cleaning up from the peak activity, because these days I find that the quality of discussion is much better in general. There's some problematic sections for sure, such as the Altcoin Discussion, Bounties, Gambling Discussion, and the Tokens section. However, the bumping changes actually reduced a lot of the spam in the altcoin sections.
288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 08, 2023, 08:39:33 PM
Reed really isn't that good on the ground and even if she is at this match, Lookboonmee as the shorter fighter has a lower center of gravity that could make it harder for Reed to take her down.  If anything I think it's Lookboonmee who could take Reed down via body lock and trip take down.  But pretty confident it will stay on the feet. I got her at the top.

As for Volk, I get why some folks fancy him.  The line is too wide imho as Volk is tough.  It could go for the whole 5 rounds and I worry about Makhachev's cardio if pushed.
I've seen some decent ground game from her, it's just she's awful getting there. Although, I'll be going for Lookboonmee her striking is crisp, and she gets the volume out there. In close matches where a finish isn't probable then volume wins you the fights.

Yeah, I've seen Makhachev's cardio struggle before, and Volky is literally the king of cardio. I'm not betting on it, as it's just too unpredictable, but I'll be cheering on Volk you can guarantee that. A few weeks ago when they first announced the odds he was at 4.00 which is absolutely crazy to be rated that low. I haven't checked yet, but will be tomorrow when I hope to get the predictions out for this event.

WTF i cant believe that stats man, how can be that bad for Liverpool.

But in the other hand i understand you in your idea of pick Salah for the next week, its because you know this have to stop sometime and you want to catch that with perfect timing, but its really difficult to make.
It's not going to stop. Salah isn't the answer to everything. I know we'd like to think that, but he's been one of the players that have really slumped in this difficult period. He feeds of the team, when the team isn't performing he can struggle. Alright, he has gone us out of situations because of his goal scoring ability, but that's when we're doing okay, but not on our best day. He isn't going to carry this team, and no player would be able too.

There needs to be a serious overhaul, and I wouldn't be opposed to losing some of our long serving players. In their glory days they were great, and I'll always remember those days. I'm not going to be annoyed at them for declining that usually does come with time. However, I'm not liking some of the attitude I've witnessed in recent games. Walking back, and not even looking bothered.
290  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 08, 2023, 12:56:49 PM
Did you see the odds for main event?
https://sportsbet.io/sports/mma/ufc/ufc-284/matches

Islam Makhachev is massive favorite but I don't see any value in betting on him.
I do expect fight won't go to distance, so only potential bet for me would be Makhachev to win by submission.
Let's see how Islam will be in first fight without coach Khabib in corner.
I am not very excited about other fights on this card, but I must watch main event.

Yeah, now the bookies might be right, but that gap in odds is very odd to me. It's like Makhachev is going against a unknown or unproven fighter, but Volky has proven the bookies wrong multiple times. Khabib might not be in his corner, but he's taught him enough for it to be muscle memory. It probably won't make much of a difference not having him in the corner on the night.

It's a pretty good event top to bottom. Obviously, the main draw is usually the main event, hence why you see all the empty seats around the octagon. I've never really understood that though, if I'm paying the prices they ask for these days, you can bet I'm watching every single one of those fights including the prelims.
291  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 08, 2023, 12:52:29 PM
I'm pretty sure I recall Man City being in similar trouble a few years ago, and they won it in court. I wonder now if that's going to be investigated, since I thought it was pretty damn obvious that City hasn't been following financial rules. I thought that was pretty obvious to most of us. I believe even Pep has been asked directly in a few interviews what he thinks about it over the years. So, there's definitely been a suspicion for years, and it's a little weird that they've already sort of gone through a similar process. Alright, it might be more escalated right now, but they've already challenged City before.

Will be interesting to see what the outcome is, but ultimately I don't think there will be much of a punishment. Remember though, that Derby got quite a severe punishment for their offenses, and were deducted points. That was on a much smaller scale than Cities too.
292  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Gambling > Gambling Awareness board on: February 07, 2023, 09:33:32 PM
My problems with this are:
1. No one will read the thread or check it for new discussion.
That's probably true, but even then if you look at stickied threads, they generally get a lot more views than the average thread in a section. Then, you're relying on users to visit the new gambling awareness section, and actually click on various threads instead of one. Plus, I know it's probably a good idea to give people an idea about the risks associated with gambling, I don't think it's a broad enough topic to actually have ongoing discussion to justify it.

2. This does not allow anyone to give their input or share their experience. Every story and experience is unique, there are also a lot of topics surrounding the broad term that is awareness. Sharing is important for awareness, as is general discussion. Just like testimonials are important for new consumers looking at products. It's the same theory in terms of experience.
Most of the common pitfalls aren't unique, and it would just be a rehashed version of someone's story, but fundamentally the way they got hurt or whatever would be the same.

3. Discussion on a pinned topic on the other hand will be skewed to one topic that is "gambling is bad" and will not enthuse any form of discussion surrounding gambling. All of those threads listed are examples of different topics surrounding the topic. You can't possibly hold a discussion including all of these topics (and more) in one single pinned post without it being a cluttered and unreadable mess.
You aren't going to convince gamblers who would only be visiting the section to gamble or have an interest in gambling that gambling is bad. They've probably already been sucked in. Should they know the risks? Probably so, but they aren't going to activiely search out that every day or week. So, again I think a stickied thread would be the best option.
293  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 07, 2023, 09:20:52 PM
You must come to terms with the fact that Klopp's time at Liverpool is done; it appears that he has already lost the dressing room, and if that is the case, no new players would be able to fix the issue if the old players are tired of his influence and want him gone. we sacked our club legendary coaches Mourinho, Ancelloti, Conte, and Tuchel not because they were poor managers; rather, it was clear that their time at Chelsea had come to an end, and the players and fans accepted this reality and moved on. Kloop's ability to save them from disaster will forever make him a Livarpool legend.

Benitez was considered as Mr. Liverpool, I believe he had a greater impact on the team and culture of Liverpool than Klopp.

At the end of the day, the club would always come first, and no manager is bigger than it. Zidane was one of the finest and won everything with Real Madrid, but when the squad started to struggle, he understood it was time to step down and let another coach take over. The outcome was better.

Disgraceful behavior on the part of Manchester United and Crystal Palace players. squabbling like children
I'd rather lose every single one of those players than Klopp. That's including Salah, who has been our best player for a number of years. I'd be sad to see some of them go, but for me personally I don't want Klopp to leave. Klopp has a lifetime contract for me.

Benitez was a decent manager, and did some good. However, there's just no comparison. Klopp has stood up for the values of the team, would never accept a job against a direct rival, and that's not even a dig at Benitez. Klopp has just done so much, delivered our first Premier League title in over 20 years, and delivered a whole lot more than that. Plus, I don't believe managers are ever done. They just usually fit the blame. It's usually the owners that have stopped investing. Sir Alex would've excelled at Man Utd for as long as he wanted. Wenger lost the support of the board, but ultimately was their best manager. Klopp will be held in the same regard, and there's no way I'd support sacking him.

If he's lost the changing rooms like everyone is claiming. It's about time we replace that changing room then.
294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 07, 2023, 09:11:16 PM
Lol...  I'm pretty sure you'll be betting on some of the matches at 284 then.  Wink  Since it's a 'shouldn't miss' event and all.  Grin  But yeah, I looove watching MMA, so I just couldn't not make at least a lottery ticket and out a little something in it.

Anyway here's what my lottery ticket for 284 might look like.  Haven't bet it yet.

Tukughov - Mackhachev - Lookboonmee
Add:  Pedro - Maddalena - Rodriguez
Add:  Bilder - Rodrigues - Porter
Add:  Jenkins - Mullarkey - Culibao
Add:  Menifield
You know it. I'm probably fancying Volkanovski, but I'm liking your Maddalena, Mullarkey, and Lookboonmee picks. The latter I'd probably be the most concerned with, since Elise Reed is pretty good on the ground, just not great getting it there. Lookboonmee has the volume though, so I do feel somewhat confident in that pick. I'll get my proper picks out closer to the date, but that's my early leans, and for the most part I agree with your picks.

Although, I said I fancy Volky I'm absolutely not betting on that fight. Too many variables, but I've doubted Volkanovski before, but it turns out you just can't go against a ex rugby player Wink.
295  Other / Archival / Re: [130K] My contribution to the fight against low-value posts on: February 07, 2023, 09:08:36 PM
I don't think it is really necessary for any moderator to take action against a spam post or any post which violated the forum rules only if there is a report made against it, If I am not wrong mods regularly visit their boards and lock the spam mega threads when its too spammy and also they handle the reports made by others.
Yeah, we do. I've made sure this year that I'm doing a lot more of that (plus I've got a lot of time now that certain big events in life have passed). I delete hundreds a day since the new year has started, which are simply me going through my sections, and deleting the spam. I've actually convinced myself it'll make a difference too, and I'm hoping that by the end of the year we'll have caught up with most of the spam within those sections.

So, while the reporting from users has definitely significantly reduced, which we absolutely miss getting those reports. The moderators are still doing quite a lot behind the scenes on their own accord. I know I'm definitely not unique in that situation. Just take a look at the modlog, and you'll be able to estimate how many actions are being taken, that's separate to the monthly statistics that hilariousandco puts out.
296  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 06, 2023, 04:00:38 PM
I'll have another one of my lottery tickets for 284 but if I just break even or lose, I won't be having one for a couple of events.  It's funny as it doesn't matter if my bet is big or small, they all stress me out.  Something is wrong with me.  I don't seem to mind much in football tho.  There's something about betting MMA.

And yeah, Lewis is dead to me now.
It's your hard earned money at the end of the day, so of course you'll care. However, if you feel it getting to you, it might be good to have a few weeks off. You don't want to get into that toxic cycle of trying to recoup what you've lost from the last event, as you likely won't. Since, there's always a massive favourite that shuts down your entire bet. Guess, who mine was in Bellator? The biggest favourite there was on that card...

I've tapered off betting as much recently, and only do it to events I'm actually going to watch. There's no point betting on something you can't enjoy that tense feeling that betting brings. Otherwise, you're probably doing it for the wrong reasons. I'm not saying you're tokeweed you've obviously been betting for a good period of time now, so I imagine you're responsible, but I hope it's not getting you down too much.
297  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 06, 2023, 11:59:45 AM
The fights were on way too late or me, so I only saw a few of them. Missed the main event, but obviously I know what happened. Despite, maybe the results of that main card. I'm kind of disappointed since my bet nearly came in, but because the Kim fight didn't go ahead due to illness, I couldn't cash out as it was suspended the whole time, which was quite annoying.

Anyhow, some good fights from what I saw. Real competitive like I was hoping for, but also some of those fighters were putting massive amounts of volume out there. Anyway, onto the next event. We've got a awesome line up in the next few months.
298  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union 🏉 League 🏆 Super 6/7s Pro14, Cups & Tours | Olympics | Touch.... on: February 05, 2023, 12:39:22 PM
Wales gave up so many penalties all over the pitch, but what's more infuriating is the amount of times we made errors or gave away a penalty when we were in their 10m line. Ridiculous, I know we were awful in the first half, especially those 20 minutes as mentioned, but that game was actually there for the taking if we didn't perform so badly in the first few minutes. I thought Wales looked the better team in the second half, despite what the score line shows. Ireland, didn't drop their performance all the way through, they were consistent, and consistently good. Wales had the worst start possible, but we actually picked up despite the odds. A few times we should've made more of our attacking runs.

I'm not totally disheartened by that performance. If we can remove the mistakes, then I'd fancy us against anyone. Although, we likely aren't going to win the Six Nations, and France will probably beat us convincingly. I still think there's a chance we can make a good tournament of this.
299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 04, 2023, 04:01:16 PM
Livarpool never disappoints, and they're already down 2-0 to Wolves, what a weekend. Nothing else will make you happy if Livarpool's downfall does not. We're bad, but Liverpool's worse; I speak for all Livarpool fans when I say Klopp must go now; the COVID 19 party is over.
No matter how bad it gets, you'll never convince me that Klopp must go. In my books, he can say at the club for as long as he likes. He's a legend, and no one has been a better influence on the culture, and team since Shankly. We need a shake up, and it's probably a good idea to sell the club, since FSG clearly don't want too be involved anymore. We need investment, and Klopp won't disappoint when he's given the backing, with the limited money he's had this season he's made some good additions. I like Nunes for example.

I deleted one of my older posts to see if Activity would turn into leet too, but that didn't happen.
Yeah, I believe the leet feature was something that's in the Simple Machines Forum software, and activity was implemented by theymos, since initially all you needed to rank up at first was post count, regardless of registration date etc. So, when theymos implemented activity they probably didn't think about adding the leet into it for cohesion with posts. Not a big deal at the end of the day, but maybe theymos just forgot, since it's a relatively easy thing to forget about.
