301  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Linux vs MacOS/Windows on: July 29, 2023, 01:35:12 PM
Will I be able to restore the wallet with electrum on MacOS or Windows or should I necessary reuse a Linux version of Electrum ?

Not only will the seed be compatible with other versions, regardless of the OS, but so will the wallet files.  As Abdussamad mentioned the easiest way to transfer wallets from one computer to another is create backups of the wallet files, and transfer them over to the other system, and again, the OS of the two systems is inconsequential.

Baking up and restoring your wallet files is the preferred method, because any data you saved in the file will remain.  For example, if you have labels set for some addresses, or if you've locked or frozen any UTXOs or addresses, all that data will be restored since that data is stored in the wallet file.  If you restore your wallet via seed phrase, you'll have all your coins, but all that additional data will be lost.

But a new question arose: in what format is the electrum wallet created? In the type column, it is only indicated that this is a file. No mention of format.

It's a json file, but that's essentially a clear text file that's organized in a specific order.  Electrum doesn't care what file extension is applied to the file, as long as the data is organized in json format.  The wallet file could have no extension, a .txt extension, a .json extension, or make up your own.  It doesn't matter.

Ps. which regulatory agency [if any] in Texas, would one approach over this type of thing, thank you?

If it's a scam they probably used a fake location.  Claiming they're from the US was probably nothing more than an attempt to feign some credibility.

Anyway, here's the FBI's cybercrimes reporting site: https://www.ic3.gov/

I haven't written that I have paid for that.

Well then, your deleted post is confusing me.  What was it that you bought?

btw - I hope that you will never come in a situation like me.

That makes two of us, regardless of whether you're telling the truth or not.  But there's something funny about the way you type, you don't sound like a Mexican.

Never mind I can understand what and why you comment this. My first thoughts would be the same.

Then I suggest you lock this thread.  There's a link to do so at the bottom left of this page.

This qualifies for a Type 3 flag.

<...>If we do end up with 12 teams, I like the idea of 8 making it to the playoffs.  Quarter finals on week 15, Semi finals week 16, and Finals week 17.<...>

I'm not sure i like the idea of 8 playoff teams, that's more than 50% of the league making the playoffs, and those finishing 7 and 8 are likely to have losing records. It cheapens the regular season. In a 12-team league, 6 should be the max, with the top two seeds getting byes.

You make a good point about it cheapening the regular season, I'm convinced.  In that case I would prefer 4 teams, and no bye week.

When we get to vote/discuss current format and settings i'd like to propose two changes:

1. replace kicker with a flex spot
2. switch from continual rolling waivers to reverse standings

I should have time this weekend to gather all the suggestions and start a poll for the settings and changes.

Yes sound crazy

That's the first thing you've written on this forum that makes sense.  The post below (which you've now deleted) makes absolutely no sense.  If you're in a financial pickle, why are you spending money on fake wallet files?  If you've been reading here for any time, you must know these are all scams.  And I must admit, the timing smells fishy.

Hi guys does it make sense to ask for a Password from a small wallet?
I've started to find it - but I need more experience for that....much more
it's an BTC 1,2 that I bought
we can split if someone help me.

If your story is true, then I'm sorry for you.  But, you're not going to get a penny for a sob-story.

And finally about the sleeper app, does it has a browser version so can I draft and do all what I could need to manage a team? If not and the majority decides to migrate to the app I will make do, but I really prefer to do things from my desktop computer rather than to use apps as the size of the font is kind of small, so if the sleeper website has that option that would be great.
I also prefer desktop sites and tried sleeper last year but their stats were wrong and they never replied to my emails asking for corrections.

I would prefer an app that I can access on a desktop browser also.  It's easier to do research and make changes when I can have multiple windows open at once, and dicking around on a phone is a pain at my age.

In real football news, thank God giants signed Barkley, that would have been a huge hole at running back.  Signed Jones for years and Thomas our left tackle for years.  They are 8.5-1 to win the nfc east.  I know eagles are favorites but I can see them regressing some.  Might throw a flyer on the g men

Like that was something they had to think about?  WTF?  I was rooting for the Giants to take the East last year, as long as it ain't the Cowgirls or the smEagles I'm good.

I went back and looked at yahoo's ratings of our draft report card last year and the top 3 teams were all rated in the bottom 4!

I found that highly amusing.

https://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/373233

That is funny.  IIRC, I was ranked 3rd after the draft and finished in 9th.  Pretty dismal year for me, hope to do better this year.  I still feel like winning 2021 was a fluke for me, but I'll keep reminding you guys that I won 2021.  Grin

Not sure if I'll be able to join this year unfortunately. Is there a deadline for when I have to give a final decision?

The sooner the better, just so we can recruit a 12 participant if needed.

The season starts Thursday September 7th, so I think we should have our draft the weekend before; Friday September 1st or Saturday the 2nd.  That's just a bit over a month away.

ETA:

If we do end up with 12 teams, I like the idea of 8 making it to the playoffs.  Quarter finals on week 15, Semi finals week 16, and Finals week 17.

What do you guys think of having two payouts?  I was thinking the second place team gets double the entry fee, and winner takes the rest.

If I recall, last year's entry fee was mBTC25, which is about $73 at the moment.  I'm good with keeping it at that.

The console logs look okay.  Not sure about the compaction lines, it's been a while since I've looked at my logs but I'll check when I get home.

It's usually the simplest things...  Do you have a firewall running, and if so, have you allowed incoming connections to ports 50001 and 50002?

As I said, it's from the website where I sent some sats to play roulette, I think it's a scam.

Do you mean you've sent funds to bc1qs9gxwj6497ykmj5txdk7aax0c6psyr62fwcuv6 before?  That's where you're money went, did you log onto the roulette site to see if the funds are there?  Are you sure you didn't send the funds while on a fortified hookah bender, and just forgot?  Does anyone else have access to the device where you have the hot wallet?
312  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't connect to my Electrum Server on: July 27, 2023, 07:40:06 PM
It won't accept connections unlit it's fully synchronized.  With an SSD that shouldn't take more than a few hours, maybe 12 at the most.  Have you tried connecting using the unsecured connection, i.e. port 50001?

Are you running it using systemd?  If so, try this to see what it's doing, and if it's currently synchronized:

Code:
journalctl -u electrs.service

This assumes the systemd file is named electrs.service.  Modify the command if that's not the case.
313  Economy / Lending / Re: Lending service from newbie on: July 27, 2023, 03:30:30 PM
I can't accept your terms.

I'm afraid you have little choice.  If I were you I would wright off that $100 as an educational expense.  You're unlikely to see a penny returned from that user.  I have little doubt that the account is nothing but a throw-away sockpuppet created to scam some peanuts from an unwitting lender.  The excuse is as flimsy as it gets, and the only reason for logging on and posting was to troll all the neigh-sayers.
314  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which wallet is the most suitable option when considering a switch from Ledger? on: July 26, 2023, 03:51:39 PM
Specifically, I am looking for a multicoin wallet, not limited to Bitcoin.

Trezor T.

I'm a bit pissed with Trezor, to be honest.  I really don't like the fact that they're contracting (indirectly) with chain analysis, but as long as you don't use the coinjoin feature built into Trezor Suite, or avoid using Trezor Suite all together, then you're privacy won't be compromised.

Having said that, if you're using Trezor Suite for altcoins, your privacy is fucked regardless.  The only way to use any hardware wallet with ultimate privacy is to run your own nodes for each of the shitaltcoins you hold.  I don't use Trezer Suite much because the only alt coins I own are XMR and a little bit of Doge.  The Trezor T can be used with XMR only with the official Monero wallet, there's no support for XMR in Trezor Suite.  The Trezor One is not compatible with XMR, and I think there are few other coins that it won't support.

Both Trezor models are very user-friendly, and mine (both models) have been working great for years.  Trezors are open-source, but they don't have a secure element.  The lack of a secure element makes them vulnerable to a physical attack (the wallet needs to be physically accessible to the hacker.)

Now, after all that talk about Trezor it's worth noting that I prefer Foundation's Passport and Coinkite's ColdCard over the Trezor.  You're likely to read a similar comment from every bitcoin maximalist on this forum.

Stop see alt's everywhere you look!

Lol, nice title change.  Okay, maybe I'm being a bit paranoid and seeing ghosts myself.  Considering all the trolling and spam in the lending board the last year or so, I might be a bit quick to jump the gun.  Regardless, I'm sure most of it is attributable to one person with a shitton of alts.  The behavior follows a similar pattern.

From what I recall elmanchez was much more persuasive, smooth and mild-mannered in his forum dealings scammings, although I know DireWolf - one of the most stand-up users I've ever met here - isn't the type to make these types of claims without good justifications for doing so.

I got the impression that he felt like he was part of the community at one point, and behaved himself after TMAN started helping him with some honest earnings.  Before that he was a bit touchy, and reverted back to that insolence once he got caught impersonating escrow agents.

Yeah nobody should be giving anybody any kind of personal documentation here, but I don't see that being requested by CC in his loan thread. In the original unedited thread he said,

Quote
Of course only for trusted members that can show proof of some sort of income or that they have money on the way.
Tell me your story and we see.

which could be interpreted as possibly asking for KYC docs... hard to know for sure. To me it looks just like a loan service that was executed by a newbie not very familiar with the forum and what kinds of scum it attracts to the Lending section, but who knows, I'm not an expert.

The fact that a newbie lender is dealing in PMs with mostly newer members doesn't present the best optics, either.

Really I don't know why any of you continue lending to any member less than Hero rank. Even then, scams still happen. Its an incredibly risky venture and I'd be surprised if a single lender is in profit in their lending venture.

All it takes is one default to erase years of earnings or worse.  I know from personal experience.
316  Economy / Lending / Re: Due to circumstances I need to ask for £60 (roughly 0.026 in Bitcoin) once only on: July 26, 2023, 02:06:28 PM
This may sound strange, but there is a 'certain' website which sells old Wallets and with it old private keys - I would purchase one, empty it out and then pass £120 worth to the person who helps me out (I have an Electrum Wallet, by the way, therefore I hope your Wallet can accept payment from this Wallet).

Don't be foolish, no one is selling wallet files that have any value.  Just go to the technical support boards and count how many newbies show up asking how to brute force wallet.dat files they "found on an old hard drive."  All of these poor souls were scammed.

I don't know why I'm trying to save an obvious scammer from being scammed, but that's just how I roll.

What is that website called?

The website is called theoldestscaminthebook.com.
317  Other / Meta / Re: Restrict newbies from posting in the lending board? on: July 25, 2023, 09:51:43 PM
I didn't have much hope of this suggestion being implemented, but it was worth a shot.

In the mean time, I've created a thread which theymos has been kind enough to pin at the top of the lending section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5460744.0

Hopefully the post will help keep the honest people from making silly mistakes that end with them being tagged and labeled scammers.

Please take a look and let me know if you have any suggestions, or think I should add anything I overlooked.
318  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Reference] Lending board spammers and scammers. on: July 25, 2023, 09:26:39 PM
There's a new sticky thread in the Lending board that is meant to help both lenders and borrowers stay safe and avoid being labeled scammers.  Hopefully it'll make this thread obsolete and it can die a slow and uneventful death.  Not holding my breath, but a guy can hope.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5460744.0

Let me know what you think and please provide suggestions within the thread itself.

I don't believe in judging people until I've got to know them and maybe one day I can return the favour.

But you are judgmental, here you are judging my judgement with retaliatory feedback.  Cheesy

DireWolfM14    2023-07-24        A bit too judgmental... you know what they say about people in glass houses.

And referencing glass houses about being judgmental is just so ironic.  Thanks for the laugh.  I didn't need one today, but comedy is always a welcome destraction.

I am very annoyed with timelord behavior.
I feel offended by these constant accusations and by the fact that this user complains about everything I do, questioning not only me but above all those who deal with me.

I'm inclined to give Timelord the benefit of the doubt, he's been helpful to me in the past and I truly believe his heart is the right place.  I will say that when I was new here he and I had at least one spat (maybe more.)  I might even still have the "post-it-note" on my trust wall as a reminder.

I don't understand why he's as focused on you as he is, but he seems to have his reasons.  Maybe he's still not convinced that you had no part in that ponzi scheme thingy.  I think he's wrong, and I bet he'll recognize it eventually.  Just be patient.
