Where is it illegal to ensure the privacy your funds? I'm in a country where law enforcement has to prove a crime was committed before they can seize funds, and there's nothing illegal about using methods to remain private. This isn't about ChipMixer, or any other method of obfuscating your coins. I earn a bit of bitcoin here, and I don't want people from this site following my money around. I use obfuscation tools to break the link between me and the money for privacy and security, and that's all. I have no illegal funds, I have no criminal intent, but I do value my privacy. I will try to find a paper from last year where it is very nice described how chipmixer coins were followed in a couple of ransomware cases; this is why i specified regarding wassabi that you may need to some custom changes to it.
Wasabi is a joke, they are blacklisting UTXO's that don't meet their chain analysis requirements, so they only mix funds that don't need mixing. What's the point of that?

Don't get your skivvies in a bunch, we're here to help. The trouble is that there are a ton of scammers out there, and there's no way the forum can afford enough moderators to prevent them all. Any attempt to prevent even one scam will cause a false sense of security and likely cause more people to get victimized. I'm older than I care to admit in public, and I've been using forums for over 20 years. I can tell you from experience that this is the most free and liberated forum I've ever visited. Freedom isn't free, however; we all need to remain diligent to preserve it. Whenever we have a modicum of freedom, someone will inevitably abuse it. So, I am sorry for your loss, but at the same time it's up to you to keep yourself safe in this space. Here are two suggestions for you going forward that will help you avoid this type of thing again, whether you choose to stay here or try to do business elsewhere: - Caveat Emptor, or buyer beware.

As others have said, you're not likely to get much support from this community or the Electrum development team seeing as how the majority of us are bitcoin maximalists. If you want to integrate Electrum into your service (or vice versa) you'll need to create a fork of Electrum yourself. I suspect nc50lc is on the right track, i.e. you're using a hardware wallet and Electrum can't get the right signature from the hardware wallet. This is likely due to having the wrong Bip39 passphrase entered into the hardware wallet, which provides Electrum a completely different set of signing keys.
If you're not using a hardware wallet, your wallet file may have been corrupted in which case you'll need to restore it from your seed phrase or a previous back up.

Localbitcoins is not a scam site, what you're describing sounds like you got phished. There are plenty of scams out there that have very similar looking URLs. You should have a transaction listed in your wallet, you can use that transaction to prove you sent the money. Regardless, as I said before you probably got scammed by an impostor, so it's very unlikely that you'll get your money back even if you could prove that you sent the funds to their address. |

I'm not going to speak for Pmalek, but the fact is we all get to decide. If a developer wants to create a "privacy wallet" that only works for people who "have nothing to hide" they're entitled to do so. But, if nobody uses the wallet then haven't we as a community expressed our opinion about "what and how developers should do?" Wasabi's downloads rates should make it quite clear what the community thinks about their 2.0 wallet since the news broke about Wasabigate. Wasabi 2.0 is like trying to sell snow in Alaska. The trouble is they need Joe Sixpack to use their service to make it more private for the institutional investors they're pursuing. But, if they have nothing to offer Joe Sixpack, then odds are he's not going to use their service. Personally, I don't have anything to hide, but I still don't want the government in my house looking for evidence of a crime. Even though I'm of the opinion that I have nothing to hide, they might find something that I should have kept hidden. |

Since I want to do some testing with my hardware wallets, multisig and other stuff that generally interests me, I would need a larger amount of tBTC.
If all you're doing is testing your hardware wallets and multi-sig wallets, you really don't need any more than 0.001t BTC. Tx fees on testnet are very low, and you can make at least 9 or more reasonable transactions with only 0.001t BTC. The wallets don't care how much you send, and you know you can get replenished every 12 hours. If that's still not enough, you can hit up multiple faucets every time you need more. |

Lol, that's a loaded question! Save £10, and risk a supply chain attack, or spend £10 and risk Ledger leaking your personal info? Tough call. I think you probably made the right choice of going with the Ledger seeing as how you're into alt-coins. I personally have been a bitcoin maximalist since about 6 months into my foray into the crypto sphere, so when a friend or family ask me to recommend a hardware wallet, I point them to the Trezor. The Trezor model T has more alt compatibility, but is far too expensive these days, in my opinion. The Treazor One is arguably the most practical hardware wallet on the market today. |

This topic is closely related to something that's been occupying my mind lately. I recently bought a ColdCard, and I've spent a few hours tinkering with it before I christen it "The Hardware Wallet." One of the things about the ColdCard that I like (it's a Mk4, btw,) is that it has a small amount of storage that can be mounted when plugged into a computer's USB port. The storage can be used to transfer wallet files to the PC after generating them in the cold card. When the ColdCard is unplugged all the data that was stored in said mount is automatically erased.
What I'm wondering, is if the data is just merely erased, or is completely purged? I doubt it's overwritten, but since it appears to be RAM is it completely unrecoverable when it loses power? The device also erases any Bip39 passphrase that's been entered when it's logged off or disconnected from power. I wonder how secure the device's memory features are.
As for BitcoinGirl.Club's panic attack; The Trezor and it's clones have open source hardware, which is partially why they are vulnerable to this attack vector, but the risk can largely be mitigated by adding a Bip39 passphrase to your hardware wallet. This is especially important for the Trezor wallets, and any that use their source code. Even if the hacker is able to steal your hardware, and break into it to extract your seed phrase, there's no way for him to get to your funds if they are locked behind a strong passphrase. I certainly wouldn't consider this a cure, more like buying you a little bit of extra time to create a new seed and transfer all the funds.
I use passphrases on all my hardware wallets now, even if they are not vulnerable to the attack vector demonstrated in that video.

Do you know how the testnet mode does actually work?
I've used it to create, sign, send, and receive transactions from a test-net wallet, so I do know that it does indeed work. Does it create a new seed that is shown to you or does it create a testnet wallet based on your normal seed?
No, it doesn't need to create a new seed, it'll create a test-net wallet with whatever seed you have loaded in your ColdCard. It's worth noting that any Bip39 passphrases you load in your ColdCard will generate new test-net wallets, just like the ColdCard would for main-net. If I select testnet it seems that nothing happens to my device  Other than the checkmark indicating that your ColdCard is in test-net mode, there won't be any changes to the device. It functions just like it would normally. To use test-net you'll need to export a wallet for the preferred client you want to use. I use Electrum, so I exported an Electrum wallet from the ColdCard, and used Electrum Testnet client. You must use the test-net client, Electrum's main-net client will not open a test-net wallet file, you'll get a warning. On Windows go to Start Menu> Electrum> Electrum Testnet. On Linux, the easiest way (in my opinion) is to start it from the command line:

Agreed, the documentation does in fact seem outdated. Many of the scrolling screen gifs show options/screens that I don't see on my Mk4. It would be nice to have a separate documentation section for the different versions just to eliminate any ambiguity. I think that even ledger and Trezor hardware wallets support testnet.
You can add this to ledger with separate app and in trezor just by enabling testnet in Trezor Suite.
I don't know about Ledger, but the Trezor works just like the KeepKey. There's no specific setting on the hardware itself that sets the device into test-net mode, it all happens on the client side. I played with this a bit yesterday, and I was able to just plug in my Trezor, start up Electrum Testnet, and the Trezor paired up and I was able to create a new test-net wallet. I didn't make any transactions, but I suspect it would work just like it does on main-net. |

BTC is considered an asset by the IRS, and like any other asset they don't care if you buy it for more than it's appraised value. But, they most certainly do care if you sell it for more than you paid for it. If you do sell for a profit you'll have to pay taxes on the capitol gains. If you sell an asset for less than you paid for it, you can claim the difference as a loss (deduction,) to reduce your tax burden. |

Have we discussed trade vetoes yet, and do we really want them? We had to wait two days for trades to get approved on ESPN last year (review period). I'm aware we had a few of those completed within the league, but the fact that we had to wait discouraged me from proposing/pursuing trades on more than one occasion. How about we get rid of it completely? Once a trade offer is accepted, it's auto-confirmed...there is no need to wait, cast votes, etc. I understand the risk of collusion, and trades made in bad faith could really hurt the league, it's just the waiting period i find super annoying...Thoughts?
I think last year the rule made sense, not because of the risk of collusion but because we had 3 newbies playing in the league, myself included, so this was a way to protect us from doing terrible trades, but now everyone got some experience so I think we could do without that rule, but those are my thoughts lets see what the rest of the league members think about it. I guess the whole trade veto thing makes sense if we were playing with a bunch of anonymous strangers on the internet, but I'd like to think we're past that, lol. This is a friendly league, and I don't see collusion becoming an issue. I'm good with instant trades. |
