3181  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Breaking] Crypto Lender BlockFi Filing for Bankruptcy on: November 29, 2022, 09:48:13 PM
I doesn't really make a difference if the exchange is offering unsustainable interest rates to their customers, or if they are just pocketing 100% of the profit for themselves. The fact is that every centralized platforms is/was taking part in this shady and often illegal practice of just handing out customers' deposits to random third parties.
They are not that stupid to take 100% of profit.
One of the purposes for existing centralized exchanges like FTX is money laundering, and I am sure others are doing exactly the same thing.
When their job is finished they will self-collapse, and some mysterious hacker will than conveniently show up to ''steal'' the money.
Some people actually believe in the official story, but not me.

A ton of them, but only a few really big players on the CeFi loan and earn business.
Yeah but I wanted to see a list with most of them, something like CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko is doing but for lending and interest earning platforms.
That is why I tried searching something like this on both websites and I found lending and borrowing pages on both websites.
If you look carefully you will find a bunch of crap tokens like Aave, Maker, Compund, etc and Celsius token is still shown on top.

We should check this list to find the next Titanic project:

3182  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: November 29, 2022, 09:37:44 PM
Here's an interview with SBF that just got released: https://twitter.com/TiffanyFong_/status/1597627998626160640
I just listened about half of this interview and I had to stop it at that point.
This guys sounds like being on drugs, and he repeated said word f*cking several times like he is speaking drunk in some bar.
He claims that FTX US was not affected at all and it was only FTX international exchange that got in trouble, but they are still filing for bankruptcy.
If you ask me Sam and guys like him just used Bitcoin industry and his exchange with crap tokens to wash his money and money from other people.
Case closed for me, but I doubt he will ever be convicted or sent to jail, because he has strong political ties.
3183  Other / Archival / Re: Is there a chance we get a takedown notice? on: November 29, 2022, 09:00:01 PM
I wouldn't deem any usage of it as "proper." As a matter of fact I strongly recommend staying away from ChipMixer altogether.
And we should all join your shitcoin projects right?  Cheesy
If I remember correctly you got accused of doing some illegal things before, that means we should all avoid you and anything related with you, right?
You and OGN should take each other hands and sing kumbaya song, because you seem to be plying for the same team.

I'd also reiterate that making money better traceable is not required to catch criminals. In the fiat world, authorities almost never trace cash serial numbers for criminal investigations, yet still they can get thieves behind bars. There are so many so much better ways to do it than tracing the money, which don't interfere with honest users' privacy.
Yeah, but that is why they are creating CBDC to track everything and I think some guys here will love this modern day digital slavery system.
Twisted minds of some people is thinking like this: Let's make privacy illegal and there will be no more criminal...
3184  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: November 29, 2022, 08:34:59 PM
This was posted by zasad@ in Scam Accusations topic, but we see that Austalian police finally had to react about this scam!
I would like to think that someone listened my advice about police that I wrote several months ago about this, and I hope scammers will end up in prison for doing this.
They even mentioned Bitcointalk forum and our topic in this article written by Przemysław Ćwik Smiley

3185  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam alert! Police warn of fake paper crypto wallets on: November 29, 2022, 08:31:16 PM
"After scanning the code, the user is asked to click on the link to access the wallet with funds up to AUD 16,000. Next, they are prompted to pay the withdrawal fee and provide their crypto wallet credentials to be able to transfer the assets to their address. Once the victim sends the money and discloses the wallet details, their balance is emptied. New South Wales Police Force detailed the scheme in a post on Facebook."
I know this scam, and we even had real victims posting in bitcointalk forum several times.
When I suggested this should be reported to polive and authorites some members said police has better work to do than this, well obviously they don't.
I have zero trust in police that are just serving corrupt government officials, but it was right thing for Australian polive to warn people about this scam than became widespread.

Here is original topic posted by member easternklaas in Jully of this year, and it is related with this article:

Ne samo da je počeo pisati u gamblingu naš slackovic, već i rastura u onom world cup contestu kojeg vodimo. Ali dobro skupine su jedno, vidjet ćemo kako će se snaći u baražu kada nema mjesta grešci.
Još sad kad Slacko osvoji taj vaš world cup contest i dobije malo više Bitcoina... ma nije on kralj bez razloga.

3188  Economy / Services / Re: Safe Hardware Wallet Deliveries Via Amazon Lockers on: November 29, 2022, 08:01:28 PM
Also thanks for all the great feedback and discourse, I enjoy talking here much more than I do on reddit.
Reddit is much worse for conversation and I don't like their format at all, but it's better if you want to read latest news for topics you are following.
I think that creating a post about Amazon Lockers in r/Bitcoin, was not a good idea, there are probably much better groups that are dedicated to hardware wallets and privacy.
Maybe r/PrivacyGuides would also be a good place to post this or you would get better response n r/CryptoCurrency.
3189  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How safe are offline wallets? on: November 28, 2022, 11:26:17 PM
How safe is a wallet like Electrum? If we suppose that my computer is infected with malware (or a Trojan horse, you name it), can someone access my wallet and send funds to another address? Is it possible to have the wallet.dat file stolen and accessed even though it's protected with a password?
It's open source software and it's very safe if you use it correctly.
However, if your computer is infected with any malware than you shouldn't use any bitcoin wallet at all.
Even if you can access your wallet, malware can change your addresses or spy you in other ways to get your passwords and information.

I generally feel a little paranoid after being infected with a fake Google Sheets extension. I didn't lose anything of value, but I don't feel comfortable having my funds on the computer I'm using. Ever since, I've stopped downloading any pirated software and performed regular checks, but it's still unknown how I got infected. What other options do I have? Using a separate computer or hard drive for my wallet? The best option, I guess, is a hardware wallet.
It is best to use separate laptop with Linux OS installed, and this device should be used only for Bitcoin related stuff, and if possible offline.
Hardware wallet is most convenient option, it's like a mini dedicated computer that is great for mobility, but used laptop can often be cheaper and better than hardware wallet.
3190  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: No balance in mycelium and electrum on: November 28, 2022, 11:19:45 PM
Later i learnt that you can import a key that is with mycelium via electrum. I tried this but it doesn't seem to be working still. Is there someone out there who can help me on this?
You need to explain better what you did exactly, otherwise no support in the world is going to help you with questions like this.
There is a difference between private key and seed phrase, and there is also the issue with derivation paths that can be different with some wallets.
3191  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Randomly picking 24 words from the BIP39 wordlist on: November 28, 2022, 11:05:55 PM
What are the chances of generating a valid seed phrase (or 24 mnemonic words) from the BIP39 wordlist of 2048 words?
There are websites that allow you to pick whatever 23 mnemonic words you want from BIP39 wordlist, and then last word is calculated to create everything correctly.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to do this because our brain and thinking is total disaster in term of creating anything random.
One of the websites I saw before is called seedpicker, but do your own research and read the guide before using it:
https://seedpicker.net/calculator/last-word.html
3192  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Breaking] Crypto Lender BlockFi Filing for Bankruptcy on: November 28, 2022, 10:40:09 PM
RIP BlockFi.
Nobody is really surprised hearing this news, and I am just wondering what platform will go down next.
Does anyone have a list of all websites and platforms that work in similar way like BLockFi and Celsius, with ponzi scheme earning APY?
And isn't Binance exchange also offering some kind of interest rates if using their shitcoins?

Even so called ''decentralized'' platforms are going to face the same destiny for obvious reasons, so better withdraw all your coins and swap them to Bitcoin.
Someone recently said that wETH token is in big trouble, so everything on that is based on that shitty blockchain could be affected, including fake bitcoin token on eth blockchain.
3193  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards on: November 28, 2022, 10:29:15 PM
Ledger has released a debit card as well (with a third-party service)[1][2]. You need a ledger device if you want the card:
Can you guess what will happen with this card if (or when) Baanx go bankrupt soon?
I see they also have their own centralized exchange powered by one more shittoken BXX, so don't be surprised if you hear news about this soon.
My suggestion to everyone who owns this card is not to keep any money there, or at least no more them popcorn and chewing gum money.
Ledger will probably wash their hands like Pilate did...

3194  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is this true? Coinbase has a Custody reserves of 2M bitcoin? on: November 28, 2022, 10:23:59 PM
Didn't CZ mention Coinbase in this context recently?
Looks like he finished with FTX and he is moving to next exchange target now...
I don't think all that Bitcoin is owned by them, and they are keeping good amounts of coins from other people.
Coinbase exist since early days of Bitcoin, so it's normal to expect they also have a lot of Bitcoin in their portfolio, and I don't think they can go bankrupt that easy, unless they do it on purpose.
I will never understand people who keep all their Bitcoin on centralized exchanges, but there are many who are still doing this.
3195  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: FixedFloat — fully automatic cryptocurrency exchange with Lightning Network⚡️ on: November 28, 2022, 09:23:55 PM
FixedFloat are scammers. Check their reviews, read gray ones: https://www.bestchange.ru/fixedfloat-exchanger.html. Use Google Translate to translate from Russian. FixedFloat takes coins from clients and keeps these coins because of "the source of the funds check", they don't make refunds if a client refuses to share his private info. And Bestchange closes disputes without having resolved, just makes them gray but people don't receive their money back from FixedFloat.
You should try talking with BestChange in forum, but since FixedFloat terms are saying they can freeze your coins, it means they can (and will) do it:  Undecided

Having such a clause in place is relatively common for any type of centralized exchange, but isn't / shouldn't be used arbitrarily. The fact that it was added silently is what preoccupies me more. Thanks for reporting it!
It's interesting that BestChange didn't mark them with new KYC icon, that just shoes you shouldn't blindly trust statements from any website because terms and rules are changing all the time.
This is how FixedFloat looks in bestchange website, and you can't find icon that looks like a profile:

And this is few random examples how exchanges with clear KYC risks look like:

3196  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Forget about exchanger search! Use BestChange! on: November 28, 2022, 09:12:41 PM
Haven’t found the rate or reserves you are looking for? Set notification s— we inform you by email or Telegram when a relevant offer appears.
I understand what happens with email option, but how exactly notifications work for telegram, and how can they be stopped?
You don't want to have people having notifications all the time, so they should know how to control them, enable and disable.
I see there is option to enable them on website and add specific time period, but maybe you should also add DISABLE option to cancel all notifications.
3197  Other / Meta / Re: Russian Local on: November 28, 2022, 08:46:05 PM
Let me carefully think about all the countries that started or participated in last few decades of crazy wars...
By OP logic we should ban everything that exist in the world because someone else is triggered and can't handle words of someone else, or their feelings are offended.
If you don't like the rules of bitcointalk than spend your time on some place that is better for you, eco chambers will be much better for your fragile feelings.
3198  Other / Meta / Re: Should the difference in size between normal and quoted text be smaller? on: November 28, 2022, 08:35:19 PM
Oh, we have one more patch suggestion from PowerGlove, but last one is still not approved by lord theymos. Smiley
I am fine with current current font sizes settings and sometimes I am adjusting zoom level myself, according to device and screen size I amusing.
It would be nice if quoted text could be shown in slightly different lighter color (maybe grey) but this is just my personal preference.
3199  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Celebrate Self Custody with Cypherock X1 50% Discount on: November 27, 2022, 12:14:27 AM
You can do it externally if you want and import your own seed phrase in Cypherock X1, so you don't rely on the wallet's entropy for the private key generation.
Ok, that is good and maybe you should mention that somewhere on your website.
Big minus for me currently is the fact that Cypherock is not compatible with Electrum or other software wallets, and I don't like being limited like that.
I appreciate that you are working on this integration for 2023, so please post more information in forum when you release it, maybe even create separate topic for Cypherock X1.

Also, would appreciate if you can add our Black Friday deal in your post here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5423037.0
I did mention it in the very first sentence and I even added 75% number, but I didn't want to write more information when we already have your topic.
This applies for all other wallets, and I only wrote a bit more info about wallets we don't have dedicated active  topics in forum.
3200  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Black Friday Hardware Wallet Less Known Deals on: November 27, 2022, 12:02:33 AM
Blockstream is also offering a 10% discount code [BLOCKSTREAM2022] and it increases up to 20% if you "pay with @Liquid_BTC USDt".
- While I was scrolling through the comments, I noticed BUILT IN VAIN is offering a "25% discount" on its wallet mods.
Yeah they are, but let me give you one insider tip for Jade wallet, you can buy almost identical device for much less money if you buy directly ESP32 devices they are based on.
Extra benefit is that you won't get tagged by anyone for purchasing a hardware wallet, and you could also find Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals for this devices.
One that is very similar is M5StickV and they are currently offering up to 50% discount for two more days.
I am sure there are other models that could be found even cheaper on other websites, you just need to do some digging.

PS
I probably missed few more deals like for Safepal wallet and others, but my intention was never to list every existing BF deals for hardware wallets.
