3301  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Trojan virus found on my new download Electrum wallet on: November 15, 2022, 07:01:32 PM
Recently I encounter a problem to my old Electrum wallet which my transaction is reverted back to my wallet balance even though the transaction already appeared on blockchain as unconfirmed so I decided to download the latest version using the download link provided on my electrum wallet.
Malwarebytes and other antiviruses can often show false positive virus warnings, and let's be realistic they can't really protect you from anything in 2022, except giving you false sense of better security.
If you really want to fix this permanently than consider switching to Linux OS like Debian or Fedora, and you won't have to use any antiviruses ever again.
Most of your Bitcoin related applications including Electrum wallet will work just fine, so you could have separate computer only with Linux or make a dual boot with wiNd0ws os.
If you encrypt disk with Linux OS I guarantee you will have much safer system for every day use and for anything related with Bitcoin.
3302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: To coinjoin or not? on: November 15, 2022, 06:47:09 PM
I'm trying to decide whether I should coinjoin my coins or not. All coins are from kyc exchange and have been in cold storage a while. I've heard arguments for coinjoining and also why not to. I plan on just holding them for a while. Opinions? Maybe I should just focus on accumulating non kyc coins?
You can do several things to remove connection of your identity from coins you own, and coinjoin is just one of them, but you could also consider JoinMarket, and remember to improve your address management.
Coinjoin will split your coins in smaller denominations so be ready for that, and some centralized services could refuse to accept your if they suspect you are trying to hide something.
I would also consider using alternative options like Lightning Network if you run your own node, ChipMixer is great way to mix your coins, and there is privacy oriented wallet Mercury that is using Layer 2 solution.
3303  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Has anyone dealt with the Cryptokreed exchange? on: November 15, 2022, 06:22:13 PM
Does anyone know anything about the Cryptokreed exchange? I found this exchange strange, which lures users to itself with such questionable shenanigans in Discord. This is the notification I got in Discord that supposedly I was a winner of some sort of raffle they supposedly held in Discord.
This is 100% a SCAM and they are using familiar discord messages technique to announce fake giveaway winners.
You will be asked to create account at fake exchange and you will find amount of coins you received, but when you try to withdraw coins they will ask you to first send them bitcoin to ''unlock'' account.
If you search in Scam Accusations section you will find many similar examples, and they are only changing domains with small graphical changes.
Don't waste your time doing this and block this members in discord, even better disable all discord messages except from your friends.
3304  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Liquid suspends withdrawals on: November 15, 2022, 06:10:30 PM
As the title says, Liquid announced that they are suspending all withdrawals, both crypto and fiat. Since they were acquired by FTX back in May, its no surprise that they are going down as well and I doubt that's the last exchange that is going to be affected with FTX downfall.
I never heard about Liquid before today, and when I saw a title of this topic I was thinking about Blockstream Liquid network.
If you look a the list of acquisitions FTX had (excluding investments) you will find more exchanges and crypto related companies are involved it this.
Next on the line is probably going to be little known exchange called Bitvo, Blockfolio is already not working properly, Voyager is already busted, and BlockFi is preparing for collapse according to latest news.
3305  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: November 15, 2022, 04:50:26 PM
As utterly stupid as this meme-coin-based-on-a-meme-coin is, if customers are depositing it then the exchange should be holding it.
It's one thing to support depositing and withdrawing of some shitcoins, but it's totally different level to keep this trash coins in your reserves.
I would imagine that reserves for any serious crypto company should be mostly in Bitcoin, some in stable coins and maybe few biggest shitcoins.
Analogy for shiba inu shitcoin reserves would be like if banks would keep bananas in their safe deposit reserves, instead of gold and silver.

of course, no matter how bad the whole FTX thing is, it can always be worse.
All FTX customers who have ever made a deposit or withdrawal on that exchange could become public in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Only in case IF they passed KYC verification.
This is one more good reason why you should avoid sending your documents everywhere, or even better switch to dex echanges like Bisq and p2p trading.
3306  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockfolio is Gone on: November 15, 2022, 12:49:29 PM
As you may know Blockfolio was a mobile app that you can check coin prices and create your portfolio. FTX bought the app and changed the name to FTX. Now when you open the app it doesn't refresh prices, instead it says "Looks like something went wrong. Please try again."
Anything that FTX touched and owned is in big trouble now, and I guess bloclfolio was using FTX api to fetch coin prices, that is why this app is not working correctly anymore.
I don't use any portfolio tracking apps anymore, but I know there are good alternatives that are opensource and you can also use Coingecko app or website for that purpose.
Delta app is working fine, There is Rotki open source app, and one bitcointalk member Escaflowne created crypTrax, open source app that works on all operating systems:
ANN topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5375431.0
github: https://github.com/Escaflownevan/crypTrax

FTX had their hands in 100s of projects like Blockfolio. They are not getting bailed out.
This week and next, we get to see who else / what other projects had their funds in FTX and related.
I guess we could also see Joe Biden and Democratic party going down in this circus show... FTX was second largest donator after George Soros... surprise surprise.  Tongue
People should also check how they used FTX for money laundering, sending ''help'' to other countries in need and than returning same money through FTX.
Just 'trust'' your governments, and don't ask questions, right?! Tongue
3307  Other / Meta / Re: [PETITION] Create a "Get your funds out of exchanges" in Important Announcements on: November 15, 2022, 11:21:59 AM
Has anyone used the Unstoppable wallet? Is it a good alternative to Trust Wallet?
It's far from perfect, but currently it's one of the best open source multi-coin wallets I know, and it's certainly better than Trust wallet.
I like that is has Tor option for better privacy, and it was audited several times so I think it's safe enough to be used as pocket money wallet.
For people that only need Bitcoin mobile wallet I would still recommend Electrum, Blue wallet or Blockstream Green wallet.
3308  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Nothing matters more than transparency on: November 15, 2022, 11:12:00 AM
I wonder what would have happened if Ledger hardware wallet company belongs to someone like Sam, just imagine, this type of man could have leave a backdoor in the whole hardware system and catered away with users' funds.
Nobody can guarantee that current ledger manufacturer is not doing something like this right now as we speak, since they are making closed source device nobody can verify their code.
They don't even need to have backdoor, with new type of attacks they can slowly collect seed words through transactions sent by user, even if they use third party wallets like Electrum.
I really can't find any good reason why they are being so stubborn and why they don't want to switch to open source, unless they have some hidden motives.
Luckily, there are plenty of open source alternative hardware wallet devices that exist today.
3309  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Hardware wallets can steal your seed! on: November 14, 2022, 08:36:46 PM
If you still trust your hardware wallet manufacturer for keeping your seed words, you should think again, especially if they are closed source devices.

Bitbox released interesting blog article few days ago, and they are talking more about Nonce Covert Channel Attack.
Most attacks could be mitigated by using third party open source wallets like Electrum connected with your hardware device, but this attack can bypass even that.
Malicious wallet can manipulate nonces (random number) with additional data like parts of the seed as a hidden secret, and third party app has no way of verifying that this data is really random or it contains some hidden data.

After sending more transactions attackers (malicious manufacturer or government agency) could have enough information to collect entire leaked master private key.
Using this covert channel manufacturer could collect the seeds of all users without anyone noticing that!
This attack is virtually impossible to prove and this gives additional motivation for malicious actors to perform attacks like this.
Nobody knows if this attacks have even been performed in real life, but it's possible that someone already made a database of users or this could happen in near future especially with closed source devices.

https://shiftcrypto.ch/blog/how-almost-all-hardware-wallets-can-steal-your-seed/

As a protection from this attacks Shift Crypto and Blockstream are working on Anti-Klepto protocol that is adding additional randomness by the host device.
This prevents the hardware wallet from manipulating the nonce and sending additional hidden information with every transaction.
BitBox02 and Blockstream Jade are the first hardware wallets to implement this protections, but they are calling all other manufacturers to add this open source protocol.
If someone don't want to add Anti-Klepto protocol or go open source, than you know you should stay away from this wallet manufacturer and move your coins to other device, if you want long term storage of your coins.

They didn't say anything about QR codes, but I think this attack could be even more dangerous with devices that advertise as airgapped but they use closed source QR codes (like Safepal).
3310  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Access to Ledger Nano S (2018 version) without PIN and seed words? on: November 14, 2022, 07:59:22 PM
Their answer was:
Currently, there is no attack for the Ledger but we’re working on it.
That is going to be interesting to see, he is certainly working on something new.
It's possible to hack almost anything if you have the right tools and skills, especially if you have the right insider information available.
My theory is that he could find a way to hack old ledger model S device, than ledger can say how they already retired this device and issue was already fixed in model X and S plus  Wink
There is higher chance for older chips to get hacked, but he needs to think outside the box to perform this attack with success.
3311  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Server Problems on: November 14, 2022, 07:39:07 PM
Yesterday morning while I was brushing my teeth, there was blood in my mouth and my knee hurt. Damn you Ledger! Why did you have to partner up with FTX?
Sorry, but your precious ledger publicly advertised this FTX SCAM for months and they lured people to sent coins to Scam Bankman, so I don't know what the heck are you blabing about  Tongue
I am not blaming them about your weird fantasy injuries or some unrelated incident, this is just a topic about server issues.

btw they are still promoting buying of shitcoin SCAM ''securely'' on their website  Roll Eyes

https://www.ledger.com/buy/ftx-token

Now I'm confused Cheesy... Which one of these comments is accurate? I do know that for the set up process, you need to "install the latest version of the Bitcoin app" but other than that, why it has to rely on their servers while there are plenty on Electrum?
Many people could not even turn on their ledger device recently, so I don't know how they can magically connect this junk with Electrum if they can't even turn it on.
Booting is being stuck on certain percentage so you can't even start your device and connect it with any wallet including Electrum or any other.
And if you have battery problems there is also a chance you won't be able to use your device with any wallet, until you replace battery or device.
If that is not a stupid product, than I don't know what is then...

3312  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What do you think about trust wallet? on: November 14, 2022, 07:18:18 PM
This sounds like a dumb question but after seeing what happens with FTX i really worried about any centralized company i am using for my crypto. Trust multi wallet is really a decentralized wallet?
Trust wallet runs using centralized servers so it's not really decentralized, and it is closed source software supported from centralized exchange.
This is hot wallet so I wouldn't use it for storing anything more than pocket money, and I am sure everything you do will be reported to Binance and some Chinese agency.

I am using a multi wallet in trust wallet that has BTC, ETH, BNB, dot and most other blockchain which i can access through one mnemonic phase. So if something happens with trust wallet company and their apps become inaccessible then how i will be able to retrieve my btc,dot and other blockchain assets by using that one multi wallet mnemonic phase?
I would never trust this wallet with anything but you should be fine, unless you import your seed words in some phishing website, or store them in some cloud aka other people computers.
I something happens with their servers and they shut down, you should import seed words in other wallets that use same BIP format.
However, some problems may occur with different addresses and derivation paths.
3313  Other / Archival / Re: WasabiWallet.io | Open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin Wallet for desktop on: November 14, 2022, 07:08:37 PM
The wallet itself said it was able to correctly connect to my HW, but it did not showed me anything, not even the current balance. Did I do something wrong during the configuration or the implementation is still being worked on?
Last time I tried connecting Trezor device with Wasabi wallet I couldn't do it and I was getting some error message.
I don't know if they fixed it now but I think that both sides are still working on making full support for coinjoin transactions, so there could be some bugs along the way.
Maybe try contacting wasabi support or write your issue on their github page, but if you don't want to use coinjoin better use Electrum wallet or Trezor Suite app with your hardware wallet.
3314  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Any PC Wallets to store many coins and exchange them? on: November 14, 2022, 06:59:59 PM
Is there any PC (non-Mobile) wallet where you can store many crypto coins and also exchange them?
There are some options but most of them are closed source software (Exodus, Coinomi, etc), they use centralized third parties for exchanging coins, and I don't like using any of them.
Only usable multi coin option I found is AtomicDex.io wallet, that is open source and it uses Atomic Swaps for exchanging coins in decentralized way.
Don't expect to have big trading volume for exchanging all shitcoins, but you can always create your own orders and invite others to accept them.

Bisq is also a good option if you want to restrict yourself only to Bitcoin and few altcoins for trading, but you are getting best decentralized exchange in the same package.
You could also use Bisq for exchanging Bitcoin to many fiat currencies, and that is really unique advantage compared to all other wallets.
https://bisq.markets/
3315  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Guides for using Bisq on: November 14, 2022, 06:50:35 PM
What concerns me is that someday there won't be physical cash. You'll have to find another solution, if there will be one (to avoid a bank).
You better start the process yourself if you want to preserve cash trading with Bitcoin.
There would be no chance any government would be able to remove cash if enough people didn't accept this change, and want to continue using cash payments.
More people should pay stuff with cash in every day life, so there would be more trading options for Bitcoin, and except Bisq you could try other P2P trading websites from kycnot.me website.

Then we better get a lot more places to start accepting bitcoin directly before that happens.
All we can do is ask more people if they want to accept payment in Bitcoin.
I am doing that all the time, but in best cases I am getting answers they lost all money in crypto investing in some shitcoins crap.
In worst cases they think it's all a scam or they never heard anything about Bitcoin.

Historically, societies have been very creative in finding ways to transfer value, physically.
What about 'grams of gold' <> BTC as a trade pair for Bisq?
So you actually sent a merge request for this (CIG) List Cigarettes?  Cheesy
Instead of Gold I would rather think about grams of Silver, it is cheaper, easier to find/divide and it has longer history as being used for payments.

PS
Crypto.com is now delaying withdrawals.  Cheesy

3318  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Forget about exchanger search! Use BestChange! on: November 13, 2022, 10:56:57 PM
I can only describe my situation. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about others.
I understand what you are saying, but you still didn't say the name of exchange you used, and that way you could directly warn people about them... not blame BestChange for everything.

@BestChange  have one question for you.
I made a small research comparing your two websites, main one with .com domain, and alternative option with .ru domain.
After testing multiple payment options I noticed huge difference in number of offers and in reviews each exchanges have, and I don't understand why are you doing this?
There are much more options and better offers in Russian version of website, only difference is that everything is written in Russian language.

For example, I am taking random offers for Bitcoin exchange to Skrill USD.
Picture are saying more than thousand words, but you can see that reserves are the same, but number of reviews is different and lower picture has more offers:

https://www.bestchange.com/bitcoin-to-skrill.html

https://www.bestchange.ru/bitcoin-to-skrill.html

Maybe it's best for people to use both version of website if they want to find best rates and offers.
3319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [UPDATED] PSA: Most Stablecoins Can Be Frozen, Even in Your Own Wallets on: November 13, 2022, 10:41:01 PM
Just in: Tether freezes FTX's USDT holdings
Shitshow continues, and danger is even bigger if we know that Tether supply is mostly held on ethereum blockchain that is centralized, and it currently has 75% OFAC compliant blocks.
This means they can censor, block and freeze any address for any reason and without explanation, this is built in feature of ethereum PoS blockchain.

DAI can't be frozen, but DAI poses different risks(mostly depegs) as DAI is backed by ETH/USDC/etc. Totally up to you to weigh in the risks.
Maybe it's slightly better than other alternative in theory, but if it is still held on ethereum blockchain, and it is, than it can be censored and frozen at any time.

Solana actually has a more active blockchain in general compared to Tron despite the network downtimes. But yea, USDC is far more adopted than USDT on Solana. (source: Jupiter(Solana) and Sun.io(TRX) trading volumes)
This is probably all bots and fake transactions, and we all know this blockchain is 100% centralized so it doesn't really matter who is more active.

so there are no reliable stablecoins for keeping your reserves without risks of loss? fully backed centralized stablecoins like USDC, BUSD and USDT could be easily frozed on request from regulators and other government agencies. partly backed and algorithmic stablecoins like USDD, Neutrino USD and USDX could lose peg during bear markets.
I am really surprised how Neutrino USDN held up until now, since it is only backed up by Waves altcoin.
It's not safe to keep anything in USDN or any other stable coins right now, especially not long term... or you make wake up one day and find your money gone.

3320  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WBTC vs BTC on: November 13, 2022, 10:29:17 PM
I never heard about sBTC before but I am not surprised with this price swings and it's likely it will go to zero soon together with Solana.
Most of the altcoins and their blockchains should never exist, they are centralized money grab schemes, and this started to be more serious when they started to print fake bitcoins.
Just take a look at Coingecko website category Tokenized Bitcoin, and you will see other worthless crap representing fake BTC, but I am sure there are more not listed here:
