3321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the cryptospace is threatened by this legislation backed by Sam on: November 11, 2022, 06:41:24 PM
He also caused the collapse that gave the lawmakers the reason to pass the bill into law a priority. I am beginning to be very skeptical of Sam. He might not only be another cryptobillionaire. His mother is a lawyer of Hillary Clinton and an active member of the Democratic party. I will post more information if I can find them. They are easy to find. If you can help me, share them, thank you.
I knew he had some connection with democratic party when he donated large amount of money to Joe Biden campaign, but I didn't know about this connection with his mother.
I am sure nothing bad is going to happen with him personally, except maybe he won't be public figure anymore, but anything he touched may be in danger now, including regulation of Bitcoin.
Let's bet that some politicians in US will now blame Bitcoin for this FTX circus show, and they will demand for more strict regulations.
In one of the videos I watched Sam was shaking his head and acting like a real junky  Undecided
3322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Btc wallets difficult to use on: November 11, 2022, 06:14:55 PM
Can you tell one safe and secure btc wallet ?
Wich one is safe?
There is nothing difficult or hard with Bitcoin wallets, but they need to be non-custodial and open source.
Electrum is one of the best wallets for Bitcoin and it's very easy to use it, it is safe if you download it from official website and verify after that.
There are alternative options for both desktop and mobile devices, and safest option would be using hardware wallets like Trezor, Bitbox or Passport.

3324  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Forget about exchanger search! Use BestChange! on: November 11, 2022, 05:36:43 PM
Please note that all exchangers in the full list have only positive reviews.
The situation described above explains why this is so.
Can you say what exchange exactly you used and left your feedback?
We already know about this issue very well, that is why some of us asked BestChange several times to change their reputation system, and they said they will, but nobody knows when exactly.
I am ok with them having neutral feedback for resolved issue, but I need to be see exactly how much neutral feedbacks specific exchange had in past, with more details about it.
3325  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance asking for KYC, again on: November 11, 2022, 05:29:30 PM
How about no, sorry, you're not getting facial recognition from me, nor am I going to send you bank statements and fill in your questionnaires since for god's sake you're not even licensed to fully operate in the EEA.
So, bye Binance!
Did you notice how they started the sentence in their email with wanting to ''protect'' users?
I don't see how sending them verification documents multiple times can protect users in any way, it just increases risk of them getting hacked, leaked and posted in public online.
It's best to unsubscribe from their emails and stop using Binance while you can, or maybe they could force you to use it in dark future when Binance have full control or trading markets.
3326  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] Binance intends to acquire FTX! on: November 11, 2022, 12:25:25 PM
It also appears that many other trading firms/market makers have their funds stuck in the exchange:
There are more of them not listed here, even some famous sport stars are FTX shareholders, and remember they also purchased some stadiums and arenas in United States, let's see what domino falls down next Cheesy

How's the DeFi-hype doing? Is it time to rename it to CeFi yet?
Maybe rename it to DeadFi.... and I don't know how to call ''revolutionary'' NFT ''industry'' now Wink
This was not pleasant period for people who invested in various defi crap and exchange tokens like this, but in the same time it can be eye opener for many people.
3327  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Another One will be Biting the Dust Soon on: November 11, 2022, 12:06:12 PM
Check out FTX websites to see their publicly posted partners, shareholder and ambassadors like Major League Baseball, Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors, FTX Arena & Miami HEAT,
Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1, Naomi Osaka, Kevin O’Leary, Shaquille O'Neal, Trevor Lawrence, David Ortiz, Udonis Haslem... than you have Circle, TrueUSD, Paxos, Paradigm, Multicoin Capital, etc.
All this people and companies could be in big trouble now, and I am sure there are more companies like BlockFi out there... maybe stable coin problems are coming next.

3329  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Server Problems on: November 11, 2022, 11:19:48 AM
Only Binance is safU. But withdrawing to your address is safe. I know you are anti-Ledger, I know that they've made many mistakes, but now you are just misleading newbies (they may think that the CEX is safer than a HW!?!)
What?! When did I say that?
It's pretty much clear that if centralized exchange is connected with ledger device and you want withdraw coins from exchange from wallet, you won't be able to do this in scenario similar to FTX.
You won't be able to use Ledger with Electrum when ledger servers are not working, no transactions are possible in that case (scalability issues  Cheesy).
Only way would be to import seed words in different wallet or other brand of hardware wallet, but what's the point of owning ledger crap them  Tongue
Sorry but In this case you are openly supporting ledger partnership with centralized exchanges like FTX and Binance, and this topic is not misleading anyone, it's created for ledger server issues.
3330  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nokia Hardware Wallet? on: November 11, 2022, 11:15:31 AM
So, interesting, would it workd with any other random Nokia phone which have all these things?
You can try for yourself if it works with your phones, but there is higher chance everything will work fine with devices listed by BitcoinComfy developer.
If you manage to install everything correctly or if you have some problems try contacting him on github or twitter.

I've saved nearly every cellphone I've ever owned, and I know I posted pics of at least one of them in some other thread in the HW wallet section.  I think two of them are Nokias, but I'll have to look at which models they are.  Going by the pics you posted, I think mine are way too old to be used as wallets (and I'm not sure I'd use them as such anyway, given that I have some HW wallets I already don't use).
Pictures I posted is just an example for newer model of Nokia 5310, but better check your devices for exact model by removing battery.
This phones need to have enough ram, so even Nokia 3310 from 2017 should work, that is redesigned model of famous 3310 shape.
If your phone has apps, than there is more chance it should work with Bitcoin MRE.

3331  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Server Problems on: November 11, 2022, 10:57:10 AM
Are we going to have Ledger server problems each time one of their partners mess something up and collapses like FTX exchange did?

Everyone knows that FTX made partnership with ledger before, and after they announced stopping of withdrawals we saw big problems with ledger servers.

Ledger Support first they posted tweet on November 9 saying they have many issues including connecting to the My Ledger tab and performing a Genuine Check, something that has nothing to do with FTX exchange.
Some people even reported issues with bluetooth pairing, other people couldn't turn on their device, battery issues came back, people couldn't send any coins. sync was not working, etc.
CTO of ledger Charles Guillemet even said that Ledger is facing scalability issues amid FTX collapse.

This was resolved the next day and things should get back to normal now, but what is going to happen if something similar happens with their new partner Binance exchange.

Much more people are using Binance so I am sure server problems and outages will be much more severe and it could last much longer.

Better think about this next time you withdraw your coins to ledger hardware wallet thinking they are safu.

This topic will be used each time ledger faces some server issues in future.
3332  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor enables non-KYC trading with HodlHodl on: November 11, 2022, 10:42:53 AM
I have not had a chance to look into this, but just crossed the wires.  Could be a very useful service.

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/trezor-enables-p2p-bitcoin-trading-hodl-hodl
I saw this news few weeks ago and I think it's great to have partnership with p2p platforms like HodlHodl, but if I understand correctly you can only use this feature to buy Bitcoin.
You can't sell Bitcoin for fiat currencies this way and I think they should somehow add this option and make full integration if possible.
This is still better than using only centralized exchange partnership like competition is doing, and it's clear that Trezor direction path is better.
3333  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FTX Scam : Unable to withdraw on: November 10, 2022, 09:54:51 PM
There has been some news on Twitter indicating that FTX resumed withdrawals according to on chain data. The withdrawals are on and off, though. Most members are still complaining that they have pending withdrawals from yesterday. I am not sure if they are actually making withdrawals for all customers, or just specific whales or groups of people.
Maybe this was for their global version of website, but they recently announced they are now going to start stopping withdrawals for US version website.
I currently can't find any notification banner on ftx.us but people should already know what is happening and withdrawing any coin leftovers.
One more thing I am thinking about is what is going to happen with all the people who owns their FTX card from Scam Bankman...

3334  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Nokia Hardware Wallet? on: November 10, 2022, 09:32:01 PM
Do you by any chance have old Nokia phone collecting dust in some box?

Now you can think about giving it new life and converting this old phone into signing device for bitcoin, and make it similar like hardware wallets.

Interesting open source code hobby project was released recently by BitcoinComfy on github (@BitcoinComfy on twitter), it is called BitcoinMRE wallet, and you can use with both for testnet and mainnet.

This is app that can be installed on devices like Nokia 5310 from 2020 that can be purchased for around $20, and it has all that is needed for signing device, screen, keboard, battery, SD card reader and camera.
Developer said that app should also work on Nokia 215, 216, 220, 222, 225, 230 and 3310 (2017) but it needs testing and confirmation.

Other phones that could potentially work with this app:
Code:
Nokia 200
Nokia 320
Nokia 130
Nokia 105
Nokia 150
Nokia 106

Symphony D67
Symphony D64i
Symphony s100
Symphony s100i
Symphony FT60i
Symphony FT540
Symphony SL10
Symphony d52j

Winmax w678
Winmax w102

Micromax x445
Zonda ZM340TH
Alcatel 3003G
Alcatel 3041d
Western D32
Explay tv240
Fly e154
Fly e157
Phillips Xenium x1560
Lenovo MA309
Alcatel OT-2012D
Texet TM-512R
Maxvi (Nokia 225 clone/class-A)
Source and more information with sintructions: https://github.com/BitcoinComfy/BitcoinMRE

It's amazing what people can do with Bitcoin wallets, and I like the idea for this project, but I wouldn't use this for nothing more than experimentation and testing at this stage.

This page is under construction, but you are free to post anything about this topic.
3335  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: QR codes vs NFC in Bitcoin Wallets on: November 10, 2022, 09:10:13 PM
I always liked QR codes more than NFC for bitcoin wallets, but we should also be aware of hidden dangers behind QR codes.
There is a good article that explains in details all potential dangers and attacks that could be performed using QR codes.
In past we saw cases of malware being distributed using QR codes, and they can also contain bugs in different applications.
QRLJacking or Quick Response Code Login Jacking is one of the attack examples:

3336  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 10% discount on Ledger hardware wallets on: November 10, 2022, 08:27:15 PM
If you complete KYC on Coinbase and separately on Binance, you can be certain that Coinbase knows about your Binance account and vice versa.
It probably depends who exactly is doing this kyc verification processes, because they can have different partners and procedures for storing and securing private information.
We know that people who signed u for Binance end up with their documents and pictures being posted in public and sold on other forums, and similar thing happened with ledger.
I would say that authorities and regulators probably know more than each individual exchange or ledger separately.
3337  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Hardware wallets (80+) on: November 10, 2022, 08:16:46 PM
Found this new wallet from a Sponsored article by Coindesk[1][2]. Costs 199$ and support BTC and ETH (and its tokens).
Oh I know about this hardware wallet for a long time, and we posted about it in our local board modified list of hardware wallets.
I am not impressed at all with iCoin, this is just modified smartphone device and I would never buy it myslelf.
Check out our big list of wallets, it is more up to date, it has more devices and it is maintained all the time by out member FatFork:

3338  Economy / Exchanges / Re: About FTX on: November 10, 2022, 07:44:32 PM
Seriously, when will people learn?
Most people will never learn, and some will learn after they lose everything, I just hope they won't blame ''bitcoin scam'' after that  Tongue

It might be unbelievable, but just look at all the shitcoins on the market and the valuations some of them have.  We were in a pretty raging bull market for a while there, and that's usually when even the shittiest of shitcoins get blown up like a ton of TNT.  I never thought BNB would ever reach $60, and yet here it is today trading for $275.  When you've got true believers buying coins they're in love with, rational investing goes flying out the window.
Yeah I know what you mean, interesting coincidence that soon after I made a post about FTT price being strangely hanging around $22 it dropped sharply and it's now around $3... still high in my opinion.
Same fate could happen to Binance and BNB at any time in near future, don't think for a second that CZ and his gang are any better than sleazy FTX CEO Sam.
I don't see a single good reason for creating shitcoin for centralized exchange, since this is only made to make owners richer.

Looking away from stablecoins there are 1000s of other shitcoins and tokens that people rode to the bottom. There are stocks that people do the same with.
I think that situation with real estate is even worse, bubble readay to burst at any moments, Only thing different with stocks is that people have a false sense of more security.

I've always hated the made-up coins from exchanges, and didn't even know FTX made-up their own BS tokens.
They're an exchange, it should be very simple: I deposit dollars, someone else deposits Bitcoin. I exchange my dollars for his Bitcoin, and the exchange keeps a small percentage.
I think that 99% od centralized exchanges creted with made up tokens, and most of them are centralized crap built on their own chain or on ethereum.
This is very defintion of shitcoins, with false label of use case.
3339  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX issue might be for the greater good on: November 10, 2022, 02:48:45 PM
Regulation will get more serious, this have triggered more reason for regulation call.

From now on Consumers Protection will always come first.
You are very naive if you think that more regulations will bring good results and consumer protection to anyone  Roll Eyes

Trading bitcoin and shitcoins should not be done on centralized exchanges, and people should not complain when stuff like this happens, just because they want convenience, and someone else to take care of their money.
Take responsibility for yourself, switch to decentralized exchanges like Bisq, and stop asking for babysitters for your bitcoins.
I doubt most people will learn anything from this FTX collapse.
3340  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to protect your bitcoin in a real estate transaction? on: November 10, 2022, 02:35:52 PM
what are my options in protecting myself from physical attacks?  transfer the bitcoin to another wallet, letting others believe that I am not the holder of those bitcoins anymore?
Minimal protection you can make is adding additional passphrases with decoy wallets, but best thing you could do is with multisig setup, if you split ownership in different locations with your family members.
In the end, if someone already knows that you own this amount of bitcoins they can always perform wrench attack and blackmail you to send them coins.
If you send coins to other address than other party may think you want to scam them and they could drop out from deal you made.

Jameson Lopp wrote nice article about it called How to protect your bitcoin from $5 wrench attacks?
