I want to make a post about the "stock buy back" proposal from dacoinminster, where msc foundation would sell most of its BTC for MSC at this early stage.
It kind of makes no sense, in the beginning the project needed BTC funding to get started, and now all that BTC could "dissapear" for MSC, which is a project still in development, then the whole funding kind of wasnt needed in the first place, if MSC is worth already so much. (it would have merely be a way of distributing them)

The foundation buying MSC for its bitcoins, though, would be a good opportunity for MSC holders to get rid of mastercoins for a very good price, and thus specially dacoinminster could get rid of large quantities of MSC for a very good price. Something not possible in current market, as simply there are not enough mastercoin buyers to be able to sell large quantities at current market price.

So already only for this reason I absolutely disagree with foundation buying MSC. Why doesnt the foundation own some MSC anyway from the start?
(couldnt have the rule been in august, for each BTC you send to exodus, you receive 99MSC; and 1 MSC goes to foundation?)
Then foundation would currently own 5000BTC and 5000MSC, instead of now having to buy MSC for some kind of reason.

The foundation should certainly not be allowed to drive up the price of MSC.

Also if MSC for whatever reason is going down in price afterwards, the foundation holds no funds anymore if they only have MSC, and it might be game over for MasterCoin, in the sense that no funds are left for development.

Current BTC holdings mount to close to 5 million dollars, and so we should have no complaints about.

On the other hand, for the foundation to own a couple of MSC, could be, but then just a couple of hundred BTC..not 80% of its holdings...some diversification is ok...
Do you own MSC?

Is it still possible to send to the address to establish a position in Nxt?
I think not!

3546  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitShares and Mastercoin - a comparison on: November 22, 2013, 11:50:34 PM
Bitshares and Mastercoin are similar but Bitshares is more decentralized and pays dividends.

What makes you say Bitshares is more decentralized? What I've seen and read, I can't find anything that would back this up. The amount of PTS that was mined in a week surprised everyone and what I've learned it was/is mostly done by big players. There was only a few days when regular folks could find blocks by themselves.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but so far I haven't seen anything that would back up the claim that PTS mining would have been better model for the little people who can't invest a lot up front versus Mastercoin's "Exodus August" model, where even small players had an equal possibility to invest.

Small players can BUY PTS today just like they could buy Mastercoin.   Furthermore, there are 1000's of small players who have received PTS and anyone mining within the first 48 hours generated at least one block.    How many people currently own Mastercoin?
From a speculator's point of view, obtain 2-3 hundred coins from both projects and wait...Sure win!
200 PTS ( < 2BTC) is fine, but 200 MSC ( > 20 BTC) seems really a lot to invest.
I mined PTS and was an early adopter in MSC @0.01BTC - just for clarification.
On the other hand at least one of Mastercoin, Bitshares and Next will achieve at least parity with BTC imho...

Colored coins is the potential dark horse in this race...in my mind at least...
But you can't invest Sad

3549  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Proposal for Standardizing the Distribution Rate of Dev MSC via the MSC Protocol on: November 22, 2013, 08:00:50 PM
I think perhaps it is time to convert more of our BTC to MSC. I'd rather have MSC in a rainy day fund than BTC anyway. As you say, giving away BTC attacts people more interested in BTC, and I'd rather the foundation hold MSC than BTC.

Here's my crazy proposal:

1) Keep only the 1000 BTC we've already moved into offline wallets
2) Use the remainder of our BTC to purchase MSC over the next few months on the distributed exchange
3) Pay all future bounties exclusively in MSC
4) Keep half of our MSC money for a rainy day and/or future distributed bounty system
5) If our rainy day fund becomes excessive, we can always vote to lower the ratio later

I realize that this would potentially make all of our existing investors absurdly wealthy, but, well, the stated purpose of the Mastercoin Foundation is to serve the holders of Mastercoins, and I'm having a hard time seeing this course of action as anything but a huge positive for them, as long as we do it transparently and over a long enough period of time that nobody who wants to sell to us is left out.

Also, MSC prices would probably go up to the point where I'd sell 1% and quit my job to work on MSC, which I hope would also be in the best interests of our investors. Smiley

I won't argue that, keep it coming Wink

If that can take you to be full-time to MSC I'm happy with it.

Again, no promises. The board would have to agree, and I'm not sure I can convince them. I'll do my best, because I really think this is best for our investors.

One more bootstrapping server has been added (http://192.161.175.142:7875/).
I'd like to repeat that u can just buy hosting and give me password and I will install all software necessary to run Nxt server.
I am in - PM me for details. It would be great if the host accept xrp, wanna get rid of some lol

Why PM, nothing secret. U buy VPS and PM me with credentials, I'll do the rest. Or u can install CentOS and give me root password. After I finish u just change the password. Or u can just install Linux, install Java Runtime Environment and download Nxt soft. It's easy.
Any suggestions? For how long should I rent?

3554  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 21, 2013, 11:40:36 PM
Any particular reason why the bitcoin price would surge due to merchant adoption? Let's all be honest with each other, bitcoin is still hard as fuck to use for the average person when buying something. Couple that with the volatility and there's just no incentive for anyone to use bitcoin over dollars.

All it would achieve is bring in more speculators who want in on the craze because they think they might make some profit. Yes that might surge the price temporarily, but it would drop just as fast as soon as everyone realizes everyone else is just here to make profits.

I can do escrow if you like, been trading a lot in the MSC thread..

Once the client is available, I'm fine with using you for escrow.  What is your fee?  I'll split the fee with Noitev.

I'm selling 15 Million NXT to 2kool4skewl for 15 BTC.

Since there is no client yet, I will need an escrow...

We'll have to wait until the client is released.  Once the client is released, I'll transfer the 15 BTC to the escrow agent and you will transfer the 15 million NXT to my NXT account.  When I receive the 15 million NXT, the escrow agent will send you the 15 BTC.
I am always available if you need me Wink
3559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCoin: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: November 21, 2013, 02:25:49 PM
I have 2 things on my mind...and I think these points need to be address quickly to speed up development and foster outside development.

1) I think its high time that 2 developers, or at least Tachikoma is hired or contracted full time for at least a period of 2 years... this is a minimal relative cost of doing business considering the potential fast turn around of the initiative, due to having someone work on the project full time. At this point Tachikoma who blazes the trail, mostly leading developments and improvement shouldn't be scrounging around working to pay bills. His focus should be on developing and testing so we can have something dependable in no time:  Success in anything depends on FOCUS, and right now our main devs have jobs on the side trying to pay bills. We should take a page from the bitcoin foundation and emulate the hiring of Gavin Adresen.

"Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus."

2) Is there a plan to develop something higher level to interface programmatically with mastercoin? an api maybe, although I couldn't fathom how it will work to do :

simple sends
confirmations
betting etc..

I also thinking of designing mastercoin into my system but do not know where to start, especially if this will be addressed later.

If you are in favor of one or two of these points please echo this post.
Echoing!
