More problems with the damn Block explorer.

use this one for now. I verified that it's  the correct chain and works well. It's not the prettiest thing out there, but it works. https://prohashing.com/explorer/GameCredit/

Meanwhile, starting in about twenty minutes, I'm taking the current one offline and rebuilding it. Nothing wrong with the daemon, but something is screwy with the database. I've tried duct tape and paperclips, but it's just not doing the trick. I'm going to nuke it and start over. It should be up and good in a day or two, but for now,  it's not reliable.

Pool is still fine and working as it should, and if you need a doublecheck on block height, it's right there in the dashboard.
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Hi-PoS hybrid pos/pow no premine/ipo/ico on: February 22, 2016, 12:48:28 AM
Just wanted to take a minute to dispel some common myths I have been running into in the wonderful world of staking TEK.

The first: Several smaller stakes are better then 1 larger stake.  False.  Here is why:

Lets say you have 500,000 coin, divided up into equal monthly stake. 500,000 divided by 30 is 16,666.6666.

Lets assume you stake at 40% per month. So each day you would receive 16,666.6666 times 40% which is 6666.6666  So you would get 30 of these in a month for a total of: 200,000 coins.  This is in a perfect world, and well.... the world isn't perfect. More on this later.

So in the second case we have our staker with the same 500,000 coin, he has them all in one basket, and stakes once a month. He receives the same 40%.  So 500,000 times 40% is:  Wait for it...200,00 coins. Absolutely no difference. Simple laws of algebra.

Now what does make a difference is that our daily staker is at the mercy of difficulty.  In order to get his daily amount, he has to accept whatever the percentage is for that day.  Overall he (or she) is going to take a beating in lost stake due to difficulty.

Our monthly stake-miester on the other hand can play the waiting game.  When his pile of coin matures, if difficulty is low, the wallet is simply unlocked and Viola! Stake-a-mundo! Then he can coin-control everything into one address again, re-lock the wallet, and forget about things for a month.
But...IF difficulty is high, he simply waits until it drops to an acceptable level.  Since TEK pro-rates the stake after the 30 day mark, and up to 90 days, Monthly-Man has 2 months to play the waiting game with no penalty, and not have to invest his life into watching coin prices.

Our daily staker is contributing more to the difficulty madness due to more frequent staking, and he is arguably losing money to difficulty that he is partially responsible for.

Monthly-Man is not part of the difficulty problem, has more control, makes more money, and has his life back.

So....Why are you still staking daily?  Or worse.... Letting your wallet run amuck?  It costs you money, and all of us money in higher difficulty.

Be a responsible TEK-head, use that coin-control and stake once a month.  You can thank me later!

Joebwan Kanobe

This is incomplete, as it fails to factor compounding. If you have it divided so you're staking every day, it is likely that your end total will be somewhat higher than the 200K, again, depending on difficulty. I've not the time to analyze it right now, you may well be right over all, but leaving that part out makes for an incomplete argument.

And that came out really rude. I don't mean it that way, I just don't know how else to say it Cheesy

Update: I've added a cron that kicks mongodb every hour for the block explorer. If it's running properly, it has no effect. If it's down, it'll bring it back up. HOPEFULLY this solves the issues.
364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★★ GameCredits - The future of in-game monetization ★★★ on: February 18, 2016, 04:26:20 PM
Howdy Y'all.

I am sorry about the Block explorer. It's my responsibility, and I've been so busy that I missed it going down again. It's bandaged for the moment, and should be good in a couple of hours.

However, I'm having a problem that I can't figure out. It's not disk space, but something is causing mongodb to terminate without warning. I restart it, the BE works fine until it does it again. Anybody know any good scripts to monitor mongodb and relaunch it if it pukes?

In other news, I'm not currently active with the development team, due to circumstances beyond my control. (no, no drama here, I just got too busy and had to cut down on some things). I hope to get back in with 'em soon. Windjc's post inspired me to point out that for the most part, it's the same team it's been since the takeover, and they continue working hard. Long term focus doesn't do a lot for short term investment and confidence. Stay tuned, they're still doing a bunch of things Cheesy I'm the guy that likes to talk, and I have simply not had time.

I personally don't know what went between Windjc and Nele. I'm ok with both men Cheesy

Biomech - help me understand what happens when the block explorer goes down?  Can people still mine? Can people still play the GMC racing game? Are there other things people can and can't do?

Also, I am assuming you have paying dev gigs that are taking up most of your time. Is there someone else that can possibly take over the role to manage the block explorer?

The block explorer has no effect on the chain. It's just a tool to see and verify transactions, monitor block height, etc. The pool is a completely separate thing, and yes, you can mine just fine. In fact, when the BE goes down, I use the pool's daemon for a cross reference to make sure it's synching correctly.

I do have paying gigs right now, and they're eating my life Tongue As to the BE, sure, I can give someone access to kick it from time to time. But what would be better is to have a script that kicks Mongodb, which seems to be the issue. I think I figured out how to set it as a cron, which I'll be doing here shortly. It'll work or it won't Tongue

Any news from Yobit  ?

sure, TEKcoin is banned from being added to Yobit.

They couldn't compile it on debian  Roll Eyes and then they got troll smacked by the chat box, and banned some users.

wait...WHAT?Huh

How the HELL could an alleged exchange not compile TEK under debian? I read this twice, to be sure I'm reading it right.

Sorry y'all wasted the BTC, but if they can't compile under debian, then your coins weren't safe there anyway.
367  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people hate islam? on: February 13, 2016, 04:22:52 AM
People have different religions and opinions and I respect that but at the same time everybody should be allowed to think and believe what they want. Ok - there is islam and people can and should practice it but not impose upon others. That also goes for christianity and everybody else.

Perhaps everyone should be allowed to believe what he/she wants. This is not the reality for anyone, however. Everyone is influenced by all kinds of things into believing something. Sometimes he is even influenced into wanting to believe the thing he is influenced to believe.

Smiley

Exactly my point. That's why if people don't bother you, you should do the same.

Oh stop bothering people with your flimsy sayings.    Cheesy

You're like a Jehova's witness, forcing your ideas upon people. Or maybe that's what you really are. The zealousness that you use is exactly like theirs.

I grew up in that particular horrible cult. I'm pretty sure he's not. But at root, all true believers are the same. The beliefs vary...

I have always been a bit confused about what eco-staking means exactly, does it perform while using less energy on my computer or is it just normal staking with a fancy term attached ?

TEK is an old coin. "normal staking" wasn't normal when it came out. Most of the staking coins in existence are somewhat to much newer than TEK, so while it seems "old hat" now, it was pretty revolutionary at the time. POW/POS hybrid and high staking on a 30 days cycle. Still pretty unique in my book.

The pool and block explorer went down last night some time while I slept. Discovered it this morning. It has been reset, but I can't determine exactly what time it happened. Everything should be fine in about an hour.

GameCredits Blockchain down again ....... Angry

Sorry, guys, my time is extremely limited right now. I'll look into it again. I am going to switch explorers here shortly, but until then, I'll just keep resetting it. The pool's block height is usually correct, unless the BE takes out the whole server. Something has gone wrong with the MongoDB, and I can't figure out what.

Well, here´s a very useful idea for NASA to work on. This could change the world forever and nothing would be the same again

What can your computer do? Almost nothing.

Back in '99 or 2000, there was a company in Scottsdale that had add-ons for your computer that could take care of your whole house. I'm sure these add-ons are still around. But I have never heard of anybody having or using them.

Just think. The computer controls your coffee machine, your alarm clock, when your drapes open and close, the room temp for every room of your house... yes, and the smoke alarm... and anything else electrical.

Back then it operated through the electrical wiring in your house. Now it could all be radio controlled if you didn't like using the wiring.

Anybody know where to look for the equipment?

Smiley
let me google that for you

I just don't feel like funding random people I don't know or care about to go fly in space. That's all I'm saying. If you wanna fund that nonsense, go right ahead. Just don't involve me. Is that too much to ask, or...

You're not involved in it. Taxation is not voluntary. It is armed robbery, period. You've no more moral responsibility for what those assholes do with it than if some crackhead jacked your car and ran somebody down. Democracy is a sick joke.

Me, I'd rather they spend it on space exploration and other sciences than on blowing up brown people who didn't care about us before the US decided it was a good idea to blow them up. There's at least a potential benefit to me from them using the loot in the sciences. In the particular instance that you're railing against, the gains are actual, real, and you're reading this on one of them.

Most of what they spend "my" taxes on is egregious, and even when it's not, it's of little or no benefit to me, nor will they consult me in how they ought to run their Empire. You are in exactly the same position, unless you're one of the less than ten thousand people who actually have a say in it.

Once again, in order to get Tekcoin listed at Polo, more people need to submit a request:

It takes 2 minutes, maybe less since I make it easy for you with this:

Just go to the following link and fill it out:

       https://poloniex.com/coinRequest

Then simply copy/paste the following large bold text in the corresponding places on the coin request form:

Name of coin:
   Tekcoin

Coin's symbol:
   TEK

Link to announcement page:
    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320404.msg3429417#msg3429417

Coin's website:
    http://www.tekcoin.org/

Link to the coin's block explorer:
   http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/TEK/index.php

Then explain why you would like to see this coin added to Poloniex:
DO NOT COPY/PASTE THE FOLLOW, IT'S AN EXAMPLE: Try to write something thoughtful, like: Adding this coin to Poloniex will undoubtedly bring new users. Aside from bringing in new users, Tekcoin maintains a steady and reliable trade volume that will benefit Poloniex, people like to trade it. Tekcoin is also very useful as a cryptocurrency with fast transactions and a highly secure network, it benefits the crypto community as a whole to have this added to Poloniex. Also, plans are in the works to create more uses for this coin. The Tekcoin developer cares about the future of crypto and maintains an active role in the community as well as the growth of Tekcoin.

Specific innovations:
This coin's innovations are in the secure nature of being a proof of stake coin with high incentives for users to stake.

Then, just add your Poloniex username, select "no" where it asks if you are the developer - unless you are - and click submit!

Try to catch Moby Dick in the trollbox, too. He's not there real often, but he's the general manager, pretty much the number two man at Polo. If he sees enough interest, he might be impelled to act.
377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Hi-PoS hybrid pos/pow no premine/ipo/ico on: January 19, 2016, 11:05:53 PM
Diffiulty really shot up once Cryptsy stopped all action, wonder why... Super annoying. I think once we get this coin up on more exchanges, ppl will go back to trading it rather than only staking, and difficulty will go back down.

Getting Tek on Poloniex should be every Tek holders #1 priority right now. If we make enough noise over there, they will list it. Bittrex is the other exchange where we should try and get it listed, but lets shoot for Polo first and foremost.

It takes 2 minutes, maybe less since I make it easy for you.

Just go to the following link and fill it out:

       https://poloniex.com/coinRequest

Then simply copy/paste the following large bold text in the corresponding places on the coin request form:

^^ this is great

tweeted the info as well https://twitter.com/TEKcoins/status/689523426625609728

Just curious why polo is a better choice then Bittrex.  I submitted to both, no big deal, just curious.

bittrex is more likely to delist and 0verall, POS coins have not done well there.

let me know if there are further issues.

Down again ?

Best,
Gabe

I go to sleep for FIVE HOURS... grumble.

mongodb keeps crashing. No idea why. It's easy to reset ,but that's not really a solution. Disk usage is fine, no idea what's going on. Dammit.

Anyway, it's running again, and I'm on it. I'll figure it out.

Its cheaper and more efficient to just buy them.

Probably for most of us. But some of the guys with earlier ASIC devices might make more of a profit mining TEK than BTC in the longer term. Short term, the diff adjustment kicks out multipools real quick Cheesy
380  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The space launchings aren't putting food on your table. on: January 18, 2016, 06:04:28 AM
I suppose this has some benefits, but yeah i agree. Missions have answer some scientific questions and brings more questions. But governments are forgetting something.

Many people are still in poverty or in hunger why not at prioritize us people first.

People are in poverty and hunger because the government has learned how to "legally" steal their wealth from them, and turn it over to the "spacemongers," who don't feel bad about it at all, because they don't realize how they are using government to steal from the poor people.

Smiley

Well, I'll be damned. There's something we agree on Cheesy

I think space exploration is vitally necessary to humans going forward. Which is all the more reason to get governments out of it as much as possible.

That being said, I'd rather they spend the money on space exploration than starting and maintaining wars. Cuz let's face the truth, the only time governments ever give a damn about the plight of their subjects is when it gets them votes.
