1101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin 500% PoS/PoW hybrid SuperStake on: November 19, 2014, 07:47:46 PM
Well what if you have 2 wallets with the same wallet.dat file running at 2 different locations. The first one is at a secure location with the wallet not locked so that it can stake. The second wallet is accessible to the exchange and is only unlocked to withdraw coins.

Also I don't know what you mean by "most would have reservebalance set ridiculously large to make sure that no block can stake"

Just trying to learn.

because the wallet needs to be unlocked to mint. An exchange with a brain will always have their wallets locked except for that brief moment when they do a send. In addition, most would have reservebalance set ridiculously large to make sure that no block can stake.

Most of the trades at an exchange are ledger balance deals. It's only when you withdraw from their system that the wallet needs to be unlocked.

Oh, sorry. I should learn to be more explicit. You can set a command in your tekcoin.conf file (true of most if not all POS coins, actually) called reservebalance. It excepts a certain number of coins from stake eligibility so that they can always be traded. When the coins go into minting, they are unavailable for a fair amount of time. I don't recall how many blocks for TEK, but until the stake is finished, they are unavailable. To avoid that situation, you add the following line to your tekcoin.conf file:
reservebalance=999999
The number is arbitrary for this post. It can be any legitimate value. That many coins will not stake. Exchanges need to be able to move coins at a moments notice, so would likely have that set to a very high number to avoid anything staking. They make their money on the trades, not on POS. Now, if they reserved a certain amount to stake (and made it unavailable for trade) that would be a different thing. As a concept, this might be a good idea. A certificate of deposit sort of thing, perhaps with a basket of POS coins, where the depositor is paid a share of the earnings in exchange for giving up their coins for a specified period. It's something I've been thinking about for a while. Just not sure how to implement it, though Kushed's "hyperpool" looks like a good implementation. But for general exchange trades, the security and time risks are too great.
1102  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: November 19, 2014, 04:33:31 PM
AMT screwed the pooch. I didn't endorse them

You gave them a glowing review of a freebee POS miner that didnt even come close to meeting its published specs (and broke down 2 months later IIRC?) All the while paying customers received diddly squat and no one with a brain would believe the specs and timelines they published. But they were the real deal according to biomech.

Quote
They've treated me well

As did AMT. I quote "They've done well by me".

Quote
and I have yet to hear of any of their customers not being paid.

Which applies to any ponzi, right until when it collapses.

Quote
It's been long enough that I doubt very much  that it would have been sustainable as a ponzi.

You cant be that naive.  Have you even tried doing the math?

Quote
My thought from day one is that they are seling half of the hash they purchase, and using that to sustain profitability.

Or maybe you are  Shocked

Quote
I have no direct proof one way or the other.

So how is that good enough ? Would you endorse or preorder hardware from a company that offers no direct proof of anything ?  Indeed you have ZERO proof of their identity. You have ZERO proof they are even mining at all. No pictures. No asic vendor endorsement. No mining address. Your payouts dont come from mining, they come from coin mixers. This has all the credibility of the Nigerian prince that emailed you yesterday. Why dont you put that in your sig? Let me guess, they dont offer referral rewards?

Oh, hell.
I shouldn't take the bait, but what the hell. I did indeed contact pbmining directly early on. I was asked to not reveal their identities beyond what was publicly known. But they did give me their names, which seemed to check out. I have said this as well, much earlier in the thread. It keeps coming around, and the fact that they are still able to pay out after this much time makes me think the ponzi cries are false. I could be wrong. But I don't think I am. I have them in my sig, and unless someone can prove they are not paying out, it will continue.

My report was hardly glowing on AMT. The miner worked, but it was a technobit HEX 16, not an original board. I was also very new to the scene. One board did blow out four months in, due to heating issues. According to Marto from technobit, this was due to the restrictive case. Running out of the case, the other board still works.

When it became obvious that I had been had, I said, as in your cherry picked quote, that they had done well by me. The rest of it, which you did not quote, was a long rant on customer service and call for them to step up their game. I've also worked with several of the litigants to give them what little information I have. I got suckered on that one. It  happens, I'm hardly a god.

I won't be doing that here, because pbmining has not failed to deliver what they promised. I think they are legit. If you don't, well, that's fine. I've not been deceptive. If you've actually followed this thread, not just the most recent posts, you know I've debated the merits both way and been fairly neutral. I have made some money off of it, and I've clearly stated that as well.
1103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 11 Markets on: November 19, 2014, 03:53:27 PM
I'm averaging about 10 days with largish blocks.

I'm also new to HYP, so please guys could you answer some questions? I have the latest wallet, if it matters, but my block of 1344 reached 21 days and still can't stake. Is it normal? But the main problem is my 4000 blocks. Look at the pic: 32 days to stake a 4000 block?! And this number grows almost every day: first it was 20-25, then 28, then 30, now 32... Is it really normal? I've never expericenced such difficult staking with my CAP or HBN. If a 32 days gap is true, then I will never see those promised 750%. Sad Biomech, how do you manage to average about 10 days? What block size do you have?

Looks like a lot of this has been covered, and my average is increasing. But I have been staking about 4500 coin blocks. I've only got a couple of those, so my average is likely to change heavily as the network difficulty gets bigger.

As noted, the "estimated days to stake" is not accurate. Press has been working on it, but there's really no way to make it accurate as random chance IS a factor in solving a block. Just like with PoW work. You could technically solve a bitcoin block with the core client and "gen=1" in your config. The odds are horrible, but it's still technically possible Tongue

My last round was 14 days, and the one before that was 15, so it appears my average is going up. Those blocks both staked after I posted this. originally.

EDIT: Never try to do technical things without caffeine.
1104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin 500% PoS/PoW hybrid SuperStake on: November 19, 2014, 03:46:49 PM
Why would there be a security risk? please explain?

Just a question, would it be a good thing if a exchange would stake a POS coin and give a % back to the trader based on time the coins where on the exchange?

I would assume this would present a significant security risk. If I was running an exchange, I would keep as many coins as practical in cold storage where they won't stake.

because the wallet needs to be unlocked to mint.

Biomech , do you know the command to stop the split of coin in hyp?
I don't remember, but it's in the last few posts in the thread and there's a wikia entry. Why here?
1106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 11 Markets on: November 19, 2014, 04:54:44 AM
What exactly is "Max Gen" are you referring to the max of 1k per block that is staking per every 30 days? or is it something else entirely?

the max block subsidy. 1000 coins per block max. It's not 30 days, though, that's the last date that a block will gain more maturity. it's eligible to stake at 8.8 days. Not sure what the general average is a this time, but I'm averaging about 10 days with largish blocks.

At some point, most staking blocks should hit at or near max subsidy. Things will get interesing then Cheesy
1107  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: November 18, 2014, 10:22:43 PM
wait a minute guys, we are losing sight of the issue here.
i am going to back biomech up here, because he is in a similar boat to me with this.

First of all, I dont see a PB referral link in your signature, so you're not in the same boat. You dont have direct financial incentive to mislead other people (although you do have a minor indirect incentive since you are invested). Unsurprisingly, I dont see you deny this is a Ponzi, unlike biomech.

Secondly, knowingly investing in a ponzi doesnt earn you any integrity points with me regardless of  what you say about it, because you are trying to profit from a scam and your profit will come from future victims. It also enables the scam to continue and gives you the perverse incentive to promote it.

As for AMT; its off topic here, but you are delusional about them. I only needed to glance at  their website for 2 minutes to determine with absolute certainty they were liars and crooks, qed.

AMT screwed the pooch. I didn't endorse them and I have worked with the people suing them to the best of my ability.

I am NOT convinced that pbmining is a ponzi. If I were, I'd take it out of my sig. They've treated me well and I have yet to hear of any of their customers not being paid. It's been long enough that I doubt very much  that it would have been sustainable as a ponzi. My thought from day one is that they are seling half of the hash they purchase, and using that to sustain profitability.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I have no direct proof one way or the other.
1108  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: November 17, 2014, 11:56:05 PM
No variance here.

So far earned 19.1% of last week´s payout
which is exactly in line.

So should someone try the site out?

Well, trying it costs a lousy 15 bucks or so.

Makes more sense than sitting for months or years
on a message board whining about how it must be
a scam.

The two are not mutually exclusive Cheesy

Seriously, though, I agree with you. I'm quite happy with pbmining, but I do wish they'd be more transparent. But they've got their minds set on the course they're on, and they've done well by me.
1109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: United we stand, divided we fall - the coming rise of cryptofiat on: November 17, 2014, 08:28:30 PM
good insight, but i think the gov would oppose it cause it is decentralized. they don't like this way.

The gov would love it because it IS centralized.

Fiat has to be centralized, do you really think a coin would work if in the wallet there was a button labelled "Mint Coin Now" you would trust all users to use the button with restraint? Cheesy

Move your fighting off of this thread and to its own thread please, I don't want to have to moderate, but I will.  This is directed at everyone, not one person in specific.

This.

I have people I consider friends on all sides of this. I don't particularly like being in the middle.

1112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin 500% PoS/PoW hybrid SuperStake on: November 17, 2014, 03:34:38 AM
My understanding of the orphaning process was that the shorter chain was to be cut off and the longer one then becoming the primary fork.

I just watched a reorganize disconnect 7 blocks and reconnect 2 as the primary chain. Can someone improve my understanding of this please

Amazingly enough, given my frequent befuddlement, yes, I can. Checkpointing. It connects to the best chain UP TO the last checkpoint. Your understanding is correct in the absence of checkpoints, but they can alter the outcome.
1113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 11 Markets on: November 16, 2014, 08:59:37 PM
The High Stake "enthusiasts" are saying that HYP "inflation control" is inadequate...

Hmmm, I haven't heard much of these complaints myself. And also don't think short run market volatility means much, I am more into long run analysis I suppose.

Did you see that I just sold 1 HYP for 1100 sats, and then bought 1 HYP for 1200 sats.. 9% gain in 30 seconds! The market has spoken and decided HYP is the champion and has the best methods of inflation control!!!!  Tongue

I think Balls is a blip in the curve. It was and is obviously there for shock value, and made a splash. Whether or not this has anything to do with HyperStake, I couldn't say.

I actually think the cap on inflation by block will work out well in the long run. Remember, Zer0Sum, the coins whose stability you note are much older than HyperStake and have had time to find their proper market price. HyperStake will still, to some degree, be affected by trends affecting new coins. HBN and CAP, not as much.

I suspect the price drop has more to do with the beginnings of maturity, as people are probably regularly selling a portion of their stakes now, as they have built a sizeable enough stake to take some profit. This means that there is more supply available at this time, which will have a downward pressure on prices. Of course, it will probably also go in waves, as people realize that the more they have, the more they can stake in a day, and onward. Pretty soon the nominal 750% will drop pretty dramatically as practically every block hits max subsidy. It's not overly simplistic, it's simple elegance.

Hi,
Just wondering but hyperstake is trying to connect to my truckcoin wallet. subver: "HyperStake:0.8.2.2/" is appearing in my getpeerinfo list.
Already posted in truckcoin thread with more info.
Thank you.

The short answer is yes Cheesy

Noise23 and I are actually working on this problem right now. He has pushed some minor changes to git, but I don't know if they're committed yet. They should help to mitigate the issue.
1115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FIRE] FireCoin- 97K Fire - POS - Developers & Promoters are not the same!! on: November 16, 2014, 02:22:48 PM
I would have really like to help this coin, but my only intention for FIRE would have been to guide it toward fire safety (Apps in wallet, merchants selling safety equipment, etc.. Having been the one to build the OP for months (50 FIRE was the only tip for 100's of hours), then seeing Tom14Cat14 leave without a word til the coin was dumped on... Also messaged the last wallet developer, his reply wasn't what someone with means to build FIRE into something wants to hear. So I will just keep watching & see where this coin goes, Best of luck.

Testing Crypto = Trying to find coins (applications) to help isn't such an easy task, everyone with fake names & some with multiple accounts Undecided

Cheesy True that.

Right now, I and Mafort are the ones trying to take it over, if we can figure out how to do it and get the necessary assistance. If you can help, that would be very cool. I have one account, and my real name is out there in the forum Cheesy

My issue is time. I post on here quite a bit while waiting on things, but it's between tasks. I work about 60 hours a week right now. That should taper off in a couple of months, but that is somewhat unpredictable. I don't know Mafort's situation, we've just talked a few times about this. I'm not a large holder myself, I just like how well the code works on staking. And I'd like to get my feet wet with development work at some point. I guess we'll see where it goes.
1116  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: November 16, 2014, 05:47:57 AM
why is this weeks payment are lower than last week?

and i do not see any difficulty increase between the period 09/11/2014 and 16/11/2014

so payments must be the same, or greater than last week(in case a purchase of new contract in the middle of the week)

Just a guess here, but the payout seemed earlier to me. That could be it.
1117  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bank account suspended, 4500 miles from home ! on: November 16, 2014, 04:15:59 AM
Unfortunately, I can't offer any actual assistance.

However, I would, if it were me, go in when I got home and demand that my account be closed and cashed out immediately, and I'd take a lawyer and a cameraman with me. I would very openly accuse them of fraud and misappropriation of funds, and I would file a complaint with the central banking authority.

Then I'd put that video on every social media site in the world and pimp the hell out of it.

Banks don't hold all the keys. They think they do, but cash hasn't yet been made illegal. And BTC and it's successors will soon enough render them irrelevant if we all stay the course.

EDIT: The negative publicity could potentially cost them millions, especially if you encourage people to remove all funding from that institution. As long as your statements are factual or clearly stated as opinion, there is really nothing they can do about it.
