I'll be running the official (yes official) ASICMiner Tube thread, it will be up tomorrow.
4762  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat - Enemy #1, and here's why on: September 03, 2014, 09:44:04 PM

The heat signature of a 4U rig is the equivalent of a 42U rack and most data centers are designed for the density spread out over 42U not 4. It's like trying to cool a heat gun in a shoebox. Very tough. The heat problem (at least here in the US) hasn't been much of an issue because it was winter and heat was a desirable benefit along with the bitcoin mined. There are the liquid cooled solutions that are available, and Martin Enclosures just released a new line of racks - http://www.martinenclosures.com/product/bitrack/ that sound like they were developed to help deal with the heat problem.

This totally confuses me, let's take the most dense system on the market, the SP31, you are tell me most 42U racks don't pull more than 6K Watts (say single NEMA L6-30P)? I am not sure what rock you are living under but I have been running and/or hosting gear in data centers since the 90s and it was a rare rack that had such a low power usage..

I can point to three global banks, two media companies, 2 global ad agencies, a computer manufacturer, and an $8B outsourcing company and tell you will the degree of accuracy that only comes from being embedded in their operations groups on projects that the rack loads are 2.4-3.6 today. I wouldn't have believed it.

Contrast that with animation and geospatial (oil & gas) who run 30Kw/cabinet or more for their applications. I have blogged about high density and the HPC markets, and how density will be a bazillion watts a foot, but the reality doesn't support the projections in a broad sense. In pockets, yes. generally, no.

High density applications in *some* racks, not in every single rack from wall to wall. The building simply wasn't designed with that in mind.

0a) What to Expect (top)
Technobit's HEX4M utilises four of BlackArrow's 28nm ASICs on a single, large PCB. Top side heatsinks are not provided as standard and an external
controller in the form of TP-LINK TL-MR3020 or Windows PC is required.

Chips4x BlackArrow Minion
Hashrate400GH
Rated Voltage12V
Rated Current36A
Power.Consumption~430W

0b) What You Need (top)
You will need a few accessories, a power supply, four heatsinks and a controller to get started. I recommend getting the controller from Technobit as
they will preload it with the latest firmware.

Click your flag to find everything you need to get started at Amazon!

1) Powering (top)
HEX4Ms do not come with a power supply, and you will need a typical computer PSU with 2xPCI-E 6 pin power connectors. We also need to tell the PSU to
always be on, as there isn't a motherboard to do this. Cut a paper clip into a U and insert it into the green wire and either black wire to the side of the
green wire. Tape it up for safety. The power supply will now be controlled by its switch on the rear socket.

2) Cooling (top)
An aluminium heatsink covers the entire backside of the board to provide structure and keep board temperatures down, and is cooled by a single 120mm
heatsink. The minion chips each require a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro heatsink, or socket 1150 heatsink. You will have to be careful with compatibility due to how
to backside heatsink interferes with how the chip's backplate would usually be installed.

3a) Configuration (TL-MR3020) (top)
An external controller is required which can either be a TP-LINK TL-MR3020 router or a Windows based PC.

Wiring:
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the TL-MR3020 to you router.
  • Plug a mini usb cable from the TL-MR3020 to the mains power adapter.
  • Plug a mini usb cable from the HEX4M to the TL-MR3020.
  • Plug in two PCI-E connectors into the HEX4M.

Using a modified TP Link MR3020
  • Power on as above.
  • Flash Technobit's latest custom WRT firmware (or purchase their preflashed TL-MR3020.
  • Make sure or your router's subnet is 0, ie 192.168.0.x. If not then change it to 0, this is just temporary. ***If this is not possible, see below***
  • Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.0.99 - this goes to the MR3020's configuration page.
  • Login using "root" as the username and password.
  • Navigate to Network -> Interfaces -> LAN -> Edit.
  • Change protocol to DHCP and click "Save & Apply".
  • Using a browser, navigate to your router and find the IP it has assigned the MR3020 and navigate to that IP.
  • Navigate to the page CGminer -> Configuration. Enter your pool information in the below format.
  • You can then change your router subnet back to whatever you are used to using.

Alternative Subnet Change:
  • Unplug your computer from all internet sources.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the MR3020 to your computer.
  • Navigate to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings.
  • Right click on your ethernet adapter -> Properties.
  • Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click properties.
  • Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the following:
  • IP Address: 192.168.0.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.0.99.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the MR3020 to you router.
  • Restart the configuration instructions as above.

    3b) Configuration (Windows PC) (top)
An external controller is required which can either be a TP-LINK TL-MR3020 router or a Windows based PC.

    Wiring:
    • Plug a mini usb cable from the HEX4M to your Windows PC.
    • Plug in two PCI-E connectors into the HEX4M.

    Using a Windows based PC
    • Windows will try and install its own drivers. Wait until it finishes.
    • Download the Zadig tool and run it.
    • Choose the HEX4M and "WinUSB". Click install driver.
    • Once installed, you may have to restart your PC.
    • Download this specific version of cgminer and extract it.
    • Edit cgminer.conf using notepad, with your pool and miner information in it, an example as below.
    • Run cgminer.exe to start mining.

Anyone have an educated answer to this ?

Yep. Build your datacenter somewhere really cold.

You bumped a 4 month old thread for that?

Hey dogie how do you measure the size of a company? What do you take into account?

Every size related measure you'd expect, its been explained in more detail several pages back. A few of the companies need juggling around, but tldr its more of a measure to protect against new companies having charting beating ratings from day 1.
    4767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Technobit HEX8A1 Setup [HD] on: September 03, 2014, 05:27:03 PM
    Hi doggie,

    im strugglin with r-pi guide,

    first
    Code:
    tar xvf cgminer-4.2.2.tar.bz2

doesnt work, we have to use bunzip2 first.

    Then
    Code:
    ./configure --enable-hexminera --enable-hexminerb --enable-hexminerc --enable-hexminer8 --hexminer8-set-diff-to-one 0 --hexminer8-chip-mask 255 --hexminer8-voltage 1000 --hexminer8-options 8:260 --hexminera-voltage 1340 --hexminera-options 16:450 --hexminerb-voltage 900 --hexminerb-options 16:1300 hexminerc-voltage 1020 --hexminerc-options 16:1300

    guives follow error:

    configure: error: unrecognized option: `--hexminer8-set-diff-to-one'
Try `./configure --help' for more information

    any sugestion?

    edit:
after deletin that option i get the same error in all options "unrecognized option"

does anyone have an already compiled version?

Both of those are correct because they've been used before, you sure you downloaded the right cgminer? Also just get yourself a TP-Link, PIs are generally unsupported for Technobit moving forwards.

Any chance at reviewing AMT's status? They have at least on the ethics side shown their colors. Deliveries started, but in various states of missing parts. I was lucky and got complete units only because they were meant for someone else. However, a number of other people got bad missing parts. Considering how long it also took and the issues still on going, it would seem to be worth another look.

Can you link me to some of the missing parts?

Do you have any thoughts on the TuringStations scrypt miners Dogie? The Turing Crawler is $3,899 for 350MH at 2.35w/mh. Their Turing Atlantis is $5,899 for 550MH at 2.3w/mh. They also offer payment through BitcoinEscrow and are guaranteeing unit arrival in 1-3 weeks from purchase.

bitcoinEscrow are not really a real escrow service, anyone can make an escrow site and pretend to use escrow. If they're promising delivery that quickly then they should have prototypes.

    4773  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Cheap HI-Power equipment on: September 02, 2014, 09:07:47 AM
In Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) I would have thought the biggest problem was keeping the miners cool.  You may need almost infinite free cooling to go with the almost infinite free electricity.

Well, infinite power = infinite air conditioning. We're also assuming that he has infinite capital to go along with his infinite power.
    4774  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Cheap HI-Power equipment on: September 01, 2014, 09:24:54 PM
Thank you guys on your answers. Let's say I have ∞W of electrical power for veeeeeery cheap price.

Isnt the answer simply everything then?
    4775  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive RockMiner R3-Box Setup [HD] on: September 01, 2014, 09:13:23 PM
Multiple attempts to download ZIP file on home and work machines always resulted in corrupt image.
Tried 2 different PI's, but couldn't get image to boot.
Then I tried to plug into a Windows host and made some progress, but it's still not correct.
While I don't see the USB device showing up in the list of available devices, the cgminer instance is telling me that it sees somthing out on the USB bus. It looks like maybe the incorrect driver, but not sure what driver I should be using.
Any suggestions on how to get cgminer to recognize and run the R4 miner?

Its even telling you, you need to Zadig it. Download zadig. http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/zadig/

4777  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Regulating fan speed manually on: September 01, 2014, 01:32:55 PM
Don't lower the fan speed on a T1, it does actually require that level of cooling. See my thread in sig for T1 thread.

So, even if I lower the hashing rate to half or less, it will still produce the same amount of heat. Is was under the impression that it would use less power also.

You can do that, but quite honestly why would you 0_o Chips will only drop so much power, quite a bit of it is determined by voltage rather than frequency.
