4961  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: May 18, 2013, 10:42:14 AM
Ragingazn, I remember you saying you were talking to BkkCoin from the Klondike thread about reserving boards. Would it be possible to coordinate so that those of us from this group buy who want to can get in on that order?

I'm technically *able* to contract and have my own Klondike boards printed, I need to look at what BkkCoin has released so far. Last time I looked it wasn't a complete design on github yet. Since I only have 70 chips though, it would be easier for me to just ride along on a bigger order.

If Klondike releases a full schematic and parts list soon enough, I can help coordinate having an American assembler on a just-in-time delivery schedule, for those interested.

Cheers~

Not sure anyone is getting or will be able to "reserve" places in the line... No indication at all how all this will work. Ideally people would be better off working on board fabs locally or through various suppliers in China and giving BKKcoins royalties for boards as I am not sure what sort of capacity he can take on and what will happen with ASIC chips etc. This is all pretty much up in the air.

In terms of heat sinks people need to slow down a tad on group buys for those considering BKKCoins will be getting a number of different heat sinks to test. I personally am shipping 4 different types of heat sinks to him for testing which are various heights and configurations. Again with that ideally the shipping weight of larger numbers of heatsinks or klondike boards with heat sinks would drive up the costs so getting locally available heat sinks is best and can be after boards have asics and are shipped then people can mount their heat sinks. Or maybe your PCB fab house could do the heat sinks as well depends on the distance of shipping etc.

Sounds like heaven.

Vpool lies.
4967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / VPOOLs not paying out properly? on: May 17, 2013, 03:56:58 AM
Anyone want to chime in on VPOOLs and what has been happening for the past few months?

Personally the FRC Pool was not paying out properly and I have yet to receive what I should have for mining I did at FRC VPool.

Anyone else like to talk about recent issues with VPOOL

So Xian what would you do?

Take an FCC non-compliant rig or compliant rig?

The age of customer Darwin-ism?

More like the Richard Dawkins re-titled work the "BFL" Delusion.
4970  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 17, 2013, 02:08:10 AM
Purging the occasional toxic customer will be better for everybody. Maybe he can go buy some more USB sticks from ASICMINER now. Those seem like a totally solid investment... Grin

The best recourse would be for the customers en masse to purge this toxic company and thus allow the market to be repopulated with more reputable and reliable businesses. The only reason this is dragging on is pipe dreams of thousands of people who assume they will get something that hashes.

The implosion of BFL is nearing, and as someone without any orders with BFL, I am glad I won't have to make the decision to jump ship before everyone else does. This from here on out is going to be a race for the bottom. A game of suicide chicken that neither Wrenchmonkey or Xian01 have any moves laterally. It is either you get out now or suffer the consequences of the following:

1. Under performing prototypes that fail to meet projected specifications
2. Repeatedly missed deadlines and over estimation of delivery and production schedules
3. Inefficient, mixed and collapsing system of JIT production
4. Disinformation, misinformation and incompetency at all level of the company communications
5. Questionable moral character of some of the parties involved in the company
6. Ever growing competitor base that threatens to wipe out their market share

Looking at that list as well as more that could be added who is the "winner"? The toxicity of the environment in this case was caused not by rightly disgruntled customers rather a less than lucid group at BFL who simply are rapidly losing the advantage of the position, they had carved out in the market place as the only "mass" "produced" option to get mining rigs. The real downfall of BFL will invariably come from the combination of the points above, vocal ex-customers, and the failure to ship any products or enough products in time. The reality is that BFL may ship something... but it will be far too little too late and with real competition from DIY / Open source as well as private entities they will not be ready to build the 2nd generation of ASICs. That is where the real battle lines are now. Not GEN I but GEN II. They missed the window it is over.

There are water blocks available in 100*100 mm sizes prefabbed. Seen them on AliExpress.

That guys broken avalon is being repaired by MRb and sent back right... I don't think he is selling the chips. We will need to have some developer chips from the early orders. I suspect someone will send BKKcoins their chips as he has clearly the most advanced design or at least the only design that everyone can see is nearly completed. So if anyone is going to give out their developer chips to an open source developer they should start with BKKcoins.

Unless anyone has a few extra coins to go to Taiwan and scoop up a few and stop in Thailand on the way home?

Even one chip would be super useful. More would be cool. 8 would be awesome as that's a full bank. And 16 would be super awesome as that's a full board. So keep me in mind when samples start popping up. You'll get them back eventually, if you want, unless I blow one up or do something retarded.

I have that in mind from day 1!
I will try to find something for you in advance before samples come out:)
When arer you going to need them Yesterday?

No jocks when do you think you will get to the point that lack of chips will stop the development?

Calm down dude.  Grin You tell me to calm down? Relax take a breath... still plenty of people out there could have chips. Probably steamboat will come through.
4974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 16, 2013, 02:49:52 PM
Great news then... so... what are the next steps BKKcoins?

Can we get a rough development run down from here on out?
Calm down dude Smiley

Perfectly calm... as always. Just asking BKKcoins what his thinking is now these hurdles are cleared with specs from Avalon... but thanks for jumping in and doing it for him.

Just a question BKKcoins... will each board have a serial / id number?
4977  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: List of Avalon-ASIC-Miner-Developers and Assembler on: May 16, 2013, 09:04:57 AM
I now added another table of Avalon-ASIC-Miner-Producer that doesnt accept your chips. They will sell the mine completely with the chips. This list is under the first list. If you want to turn your bought chips into a miner the first table is your choice.

Can you add for me it is pay and collect in person. We do not provide shipping. People will have to come and get their units at our shop.

Ok, ill add, important info. But i guess you will get many requests for shipping.

I don't care... Wink j/k. You want a box you come and get a box. I am a full time teacher / principal so we will have to make it a bit harder for the customers. Also that will hopefully lower the demand some. I will only be able to pump 25 - 100 K16 boards out initially so the line around the block won't happen. Also Indonesia is really not the biggest hot bed for Bitcoin yet so I bet these rigs won't fly off the shelf here.

You will see a website later Dan and yes anyone is welcome to come to the shop and buy one. I bet though people will not wait till September or October for me to be selling units right. That is why I suspect this will only be Indonesians coming to get one. No deposits, no credit cards no pre-orders. Rupiah, Bitcoin or Freicoin on the barrel head! Whatever is not sold will put to good use mining for me.

4978  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Remember last October when BFL said they would ship by the end of the month? on: May 16, 2013, 06:14:23 AM
Given that it is now the second half of May and they haven't even finished development of 3 of the 4 of their products how could they have legitimately believed they were going to ship within a month at the time? Even if they had a working prototype they couldn't have done it. They didn't even have a working ASIC!

It should be quite obvious to anyone that that claim at the time (last fall) was nothing more than pure fraud intended to boost their pre-orders and scare off competitors.

Why are they not being investigated by state attorney generals or why is there no class action lawsuit being organized against them?

There is no way they can claim that they actually believed they would be able to ship a product at that time. No one is going to believe that a company was that completely ignorant as to the sechedule it takes to develop, test, produce, and ship an ASIC.

I'd like to see their e-mails and records subpoenaed so we can really see what was going on in the company at that time.

Now that Avalon Batch 2 is shipping, with batch 3 and the discrete chips not far behind, BFL hardware with be worthless when it finally does arrive. And a honest, fair estimate is about 3-4 months for just the first 10,000 units. Let's look at the schedule:

2-4 weeks for BFL to figure out the kinks in their single SC board.
2 weeks to order chips, assemble a couple of single SC machines, and ship them out to reviewers
2 weeks to receive enough chips and get the new PCBs made in large enough quantity
2 weeks to ramp up assembly
2 weeks to package and ship
10 weeks of production to make 10,000 units assuming they can make 1000 a week (it's ambitious).
Add in another 4 weeks for potential delays, of which there is always something

That's about 3-4 months just to get started making a dent in the backlog of pre-orders they have. By then we might even be seeing home-made Avalon ASIC machines out there mining.

If you don't believe it will take this long, look how long it's been since they got the first Jalapeno working and how many people have them? It takes a while to go from "prototype" to ramping up production to significant volume. And they don't even have a working prototype for the single SC/minirig right now.

Sorry for your frustration and what has happened since you ordered. It is unfortunate that BFL is not delivering any working products to you the customers waiting in queue. I hope people who might thinking of ordering take this as a warning and do not order and that most of those who pre-ordered will never order from BFL again. The best thing would be for people to either get a refund, or hopefully get some sort of unit soon before the spike in difficulty that is coming. As consumers we should all warn people off BFL and further to this do not order from them in future. This company does not deserve the support of the bitcoin community and we should vote with our wallets and ultimately they will close up shop thus ending this terrible chapter in Bitcoin history.
4979  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 15, 2013, 12:04:17 PM
We would need solder stencils with and without the ASICs in place as I bet a fair number of boards will be assembled without the ASICs and it would be better when placing the ASICs on unpopulated boards to have clean pads instead of solder puddled up on the pads.

Many ways to skin the cat.
