Figures Kano would go and alienate his customer base the very people who are building equipment that uses his work.

Like Josh he really does know how to work the room right?

I feel the big news is we will be allowed to preorder next gen devices + few batches of chips on the way (soon)

He already told us the good news ("he is not dead"), now it's the time for the bad ones.

Hehe that is my guess too.

Seriously, guys, do you really believe Yifu will read through a dozen pages of mostly nonsense, threatening and unimportant posts?

Aah, Bitcoin, the eternal fountain of popcorn!

Ente

The only thing he will read in the future is the bottom line on the spread sheet. 0 sales. That is how the community should respond.

Unfortunately many of us have assumed shipping chips would be a simple and straightforward prospect given the nightmares others have faced with mining rigs. Lesson learned add Yifu to the ever growing people in the community that fail to deliver on promises.
4104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: August 08, 2013, 11:08:09 AM
Simple lesson from this. Avalon is on the do not buy from list in future. Avoid them and work with products that are not ordered 9 to 10 weeks out. Time for the community to work together and close down these types of companies simply by buying in future. BFL, Avalon and others who play the same game of ignoring customers and missing delivery dates.
4105  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 08, 2013, 10:28:27 AM
"I'm not dead." TM - Yifu
"2 more weeks." TM - Josh

Where are the products we ordered and when are they going to be delivered?
4106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon, for the sake of Open Source, ship the chips. on: August 08, 2013, 10:11:24 AM
Please DON'T ship them!! At least not for 2 more months.

Batch 2 just shipped less than a month ago after being long delayed. Give us some time to make back our ROI before you flood the mining world with discrete chips.

The situation must be ship by the date promised, if you don't we won't be buying from Avalon in future. Screw with the community at your own risk.

4107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon chip error rate? on: August 08, 2013, 03:46:05 AM
Has anyone heard what the error/failure rate of Avalon chips is? Wondering if it's too soon to know for sure. Maybe there are some stats from the first 2 batches of Avalon boxes?

It seems that failures are extremely rare. Burnin is so sure in that that he offered 2 year guarantee for Avalon boards he is assembling, he will replace failed chips free of charge.

I wonder for how much overclocking that is guilty. I mean he wrote you can put the voltage to a level that its a sure way to break the chip.

It wouldn't be a surprise if he puts some hardcoded voltage limit in the firmware. It's logical that he can't take that much risk, since he promised he will replace the chips with his own chips, otherwise he can go broke letting people to fry the chips playing the voltage roulette.

Since you write it this way... can it be that you misinterpreted it? He wrote that he will replace broken chips after production with his own chips. But im not sure if you can send them to him and he will replace your broken chips. This might become devastating for him. Broken fan... he pays, overclocking without enough cooling, he pays... and so on.

Maybe I misinterpreted it, but I didn't say the fan, that's irrational to expect not to brake occasionally. Nevertheless, I understood he will replace chips with his own from his personal reserve, and that impressed me very much.

Might want to read his SITE clearly states the 'as is' nature and best effort of the production of these units and the very LIMITED warranty.
4108  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: August 07, 2013, 11:48:29 AM
Where are the sample chips??

+1 That needs resolution asap.
4109  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Sales] $49.99 | Ƀ0.48 - K1 Nanos - Big Picture Mining Cooperative on: August 07, 2013, 06:29:30 AM
I asked for a refund for my preorder 2 days ago.. Still have not received it..

Order number 57... Please advise. :/

I still have received no reply or refund on my order, this was asked for 3 days ago.

You have received PM's from me less than 3 days ago and with my spotty Internet I have tried as much as I can to be here and responding.

I am personally trying to contact our website manager and have emailed him directly, through the website and I have updated your order as much as I can with a note.

I apologize for the delay in getting the refund this is clearly our fault and I am trying what I can to get this rectified from Puncak in the mountains south of Jakarta with very very very limited Internet access.

As a last resort I can give you my own BTC but you will need to sign a message to me so that I can verify you have control of the account you want the BTC sent and I will have to verify your identity as well through the message so that I am sure you are the same person who ordered. Please communicate with me via PM or via email darin.bicknell@gmail.com.

Again please understand I have very limited access to the Internet and it is hit and miss with the cell towers here. So I will do what I can. I am sorry for the wait it is our fault I hope to have this fixed today if at all possible.

---------------------------

Note if delays continue in shipping from Avalon we will provide full refunds, or store credits for our 50 port USB hub and or our 2nd Generation miners available in the coming months, will be given as there is little point to holding out hope for a production if Avalon is failing to respond and send us information. The DIY community is unfortunately being held hostage at this time and our production is part of that DIY community. We echo the communities frustration with Avalon and we agree with the sentiment of choosing not to work with any company that is ineffectual in terms of delivery and communications and it is becoming all to clear Avalon is slipping into that range of companies.
4110  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Product Teasers] Prototype hubs & more from Big Picture Mining Cooperative on: August 06, 2013, 03:11:43 AM
Testing for our new miners starts today and our hub is nearly complete in design and prototypes should be ready mid August.  We suspect that both these products will be complete the initial prototyping / test phases in the next week or two. Which could possibly mean we are ready to post up units for sale on our site before the end of August with working units working in the wild with various members of the COOP. We are also looking into different chips for our mining farm and plans for cloudhasing and IPO for Big Picture Mining Cooperative. We also are developing turn key website building service for the BitCoin community.

Fact is you should all be getting daily updates with lateness. Silence is inexcusable.

Thank You terrahash!

I just wanted to publicly Thank You for making a substantial license payment to me for the boards you have under way. I thought it would be good for your customers to know that you have been taking the steps to make this "officially endorsed". If you ever need my assistance I'm always here.

I bought one of these off you bicknellski.  Can't wait to get it Smiley

Off us... takes more than me to get the K1 ready. Thanks for the purchase. As soon as we hear the chips are at the fab we will let you know.

Fo shizzle Smiley

I've got a giant K16 buy in another thread, but I digest...

I saw in another group buy that ordered late april and received late July.

When did you order the chips?  (I'm just being lazy, if it's covered in this thread) Smiley

We are spread out from May to June on various group buys... hard to know when these chips will arrive given the 2 to 3 weeks of delays already. We should have received some developer chips and still waiting even on those. We are looking at alternatives as well just in case we have delivery delays that just cause ROI to completely tank. Suffice to say at some point Avalon has to deliver or face problems with trust for future business.

4118  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: everyone get ready to sue Avalon! ($200 million possibly incoming) / rumors on: August 05, 2013, 02:41:12 AM
Knc is at 28nm how is 20nm a porsche compared to that?

Put simply because Bitsyncom has a track record with first FPGAs and then Asics (though that reputation is tarninshing fast).

KnC is still uncertain until their chip checks out.  Understandably, KnC put in a number of conservative estimates on hash, power and delivery and have an aggressive delivery schedule... but right now only they know how conservative and how aggressive.

What is tarnished is the lack of proper logistics and customer service. In terms of the tech I think most would agree they have delivered that pretty much every time.

What they need, as do most of these "chip" & "rig" fabricators, is a properly run CRM and Supply Chain side.
4119  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: August 05, 2013, 02:32:43 AM
The delays have really threw this into the drift wood category.

I'll stay the course, but it might be a race now to see if my KNC miners show up before these have a chance to hash

Avalon was a good proof of concept team but shows that as a company, they are weaksauce

The feeling I have is the chips will deliver late 3 to 4 weeks now given some of Zefir's orders. This group buy should be should be receiving chips now. I suspect if you are doing a DIY you are still good for a month or more as your cost per Gh/s will be quite reasonable. Avalon is a solid chip with overclock potential beyond 450 given you can soak em in oil so there is plenty of life yet. For me there is another prototype opportunity and that to me is a 4 to 6 month life span unit that is more efficient. Also working on a monster USB hub that will be ready in a few weeks. I hate to pull the plug on the group buy but with the chance to develop the next thing can't pass up the chance. I have had a few offers already on my 540 chips so I will give it a few more days then sell if no one else sends in offers.

Edit: Accepted tentative offer for the chips, deposit to be made, transfer to be completed on Thursday the 8th August.
4120  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Interest Check for K1 Nano USB Mini Miner less than $49. on: August 05, 2013, 02:27:04 AM
Okay. I was just checking for interest. The prices are that from a competing Group Buy from a competing hardware company, so I just used that as a basis.

I trust that the website and the people behind this Big Picture Mining are legit: they are using open source designs, and chips everyone knows come from a legit manufacturer.

Final price will be whatever can be negotiated with the website owners. Volume helps, also especially if we already have the 400 to 550 BTC in an escrow address that they can confirm I control and is ready to send.

If this doesn't happen, everyone gets back their coins.

Again, this is still an interest check. If we don't reach a minimum of 100 units "interested", no group buy happens.

If, in the group buy, we do not reach 1000 units "sold and paid", then the group buy does not happen as well.

And, if in the group buy, we do reach 1000 units "sold and paid" but I fail to negotiate better prices, then the group buy does not happen too. (Unless you are okay with paying $49.99 per unit, but in which case you better just order from the website directly yourself.)

Everyone will get a refund if you sent any coins.

Very premature to offer anything. Better to just wait until we have all the information on the Avalon chips and shipping information as the Cooperative is trying to figure out what is possible given the delays in chip shipments from Avalon.
