If you are only making 550 at a time... then you are pretty much under the radar and could do that.

I know, I'm not criticising Hashfast, I'm criticising BFL!

Wasn't criticizing you I was agreeing with you.

BFL and Avalon = Boycott.

Can anybody offer insight on these questions:
miner questions
- power (standard 110 US voltage & plug)?
- liquid cooled - does this have specific environmental requirements (meaning - can I run this in my basement...)
- "solely for use in commercial environments" - how do you define commercial environment?

I've been finding answers to the other questions I have Smiley

Power supply will handle both 110-120 and 220-240V AC. Cable / plug shipped will be USA.

The liquid cooling system is completely sealed and maintenance free, it can be used anywhere.

Due to the long time it takes to get FCC approval for residential use we cannot sell this unit for residential use. This unit is for use in commercial environments only.

Haha, you might want to let BFL customers know about that, that might be their hold up!

There is always the end around on this make them engineering samples right? Beagleboards are sold that way as evaluation kits/boards right?
4084  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 10:49:11 AM
I am happy to hear the news from Yifu. I feel the tone of this community has a pretty poor attitude towards the engineers that make it all possible, and the people that work hard creating companies doing what they love (which is not sitting around making sure mining rigs have power). I know BFL took a really long time to develop their product, but Avalon has their product developed.

All this talk about making roi... maybe you should power them with an excersice bike instead of paying for overpriced middle America electricity fees. You would have enough time to calm down and make some happy molecules in your brains (these are important). Also if you plan on making real money(over 50k/yr min) by mining you might want to start looking for a real job again, I mine to support the bitcoin currency and to generate a littlte bit of it for myself, I also work 2 jobs and create electronics as a revenue generating hobby.

You must have understood the risk involved when you spent the money on chips... hell their wasn't even a working board design (other than avalons) when I spent my money. You must have seen what went down with BFL before you spent money on pre order chips from Avalon... Im glad I talked my buddy out of dropping $20k on boards from terrahash (dropped $2k instead, put 15k in a hedge and a little liquid). Did you not understand the rise in difficulty that was going to occur? I also didn't put all my eggs in one basket... if you are looking at bitcoin mining hardware as an investment then you should really diversify so you don't get burned.

I just feel the attitude in this room is a bit dark and could use some light. Especially seeing how none of this technology even existed a year ago and you are all complaining how screwed you are to not have the latest and greatest toys.

The risk you take as an EE is deliver on 14 million dollar promises. It is very DARK for a good reason and the lack of clear and precise information to those who are holding their credit line requires a forceful response. Sorry but if you want to play with that sort of trust you have to suffer the consequences when you fail.

I guess we need an IRON RING here in BitCoin as it is obvious there is little oversight of the "profession" here.

4085  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: August 09, 2013, 10:46:51 AM
Does the BabyJet have RoHS and CE?

I suspect it does not have either but let them respond whether or not they do.

CE if I am not mistaken requires someone in Europe who is reselling to sign off that the unit is compliant and would be responsible if it isn't.

RoHS typically less of problem as more modern fabrication is RoHS compliant, although again ask the boys at HashFast that question.

4086  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: August 09, 2013, 10:38:08 AM
what is with Rohs and CE?

http://www.rohscompliancedefinition.com/

The definition and aim of the RoHS directive is quite simple. The RoHS directive aims to restrict certain dangerous substances commonly used in electronic and electronic equipment. Any RoHS compliant component is tested for the presence of Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent chromium (Hex-Cr), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). For Cadmium and Hexavalent chromium, there must be less than 0.01% of the substance by weight at raw homogeneous materials level. For Lead, PBB, and PBDE, there must be no more than 0.1% of the material, when calculated by weight at raw homogeneous materials. Any RoHS compliant component must have 100 ppm or less of mercury and the mercury must not have been intentionally added to the component. In the EU, some military and medical equipment are exempt from RoHS compliance.

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.dti.gov.uk/innovation/strd/cemark/page11646.html

CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product meets all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives. CE marking gives companies easier access into the European market to sell their products without adaptation or rechecking. The initials "CE" do not stand for any specific words but are a declaration by the manufacturer that his product meets the requirements of the applicable European Directive(s).
4087  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ► ► ►HashFast Endorsement on: August 09, 2013, 10:32:17 AM
This thread is a joke.

tldr: I've been paid to say these people are legitimate, so they're legitimate.

actually, it's the other way around.

You paid them?

no.  i made a determination that they are legitimate.  once they figured out i was a supporter, was going to buy machines and who i was, they offered to make me a paid sponsor.  sorta like how Lebron James sponsors Coke  Grin  i guess he drinks it, right?

i have no problems supporting causes i truly believe in I'm paid to support.

Fixed. And if you want anyone to take you seriously, announce your contract, remuneration and terms surround your 'support'.

did you bother to announce how much you were charging Horserider to sell his unit?  if not, why not?
No, because I'm not whoring my forum reputation out to advertise a likely scam LOL. Nice attempt at logics, I'm sure you'll get it next time.

What metric are you using for calling this a "likely" scam?  You got some scamdar we don't know about?

Open Source Hardware?
4089  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bad Block Erupter? on: August 09, 2013, 10:20:03 AM
How much have you spent trying to fix it? "Upgrade" or as you say what was the cost of all the "attempts to get stable operation"?
4090  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: August 09, 2013, 10:14:45 AM
so like... you are allowed to blatantly trick facebook users with a wrong URL in your ad?

how is this up days later?

Sorry for being a n00b it seems like a really huge hole in FB ads...

with BFL being one of the filthiest companies around the ad really didn't shock me all that much.  In fact it seemed like a logical next marketing step as they circle the drain.

Agreed ... the idea that it was real and not  fake ..shows what level of morality is expected from this  group of conmen

Anyone report it?
4091  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ► ► ►HashFast Endorsement on: August 09, 2013, 10:10:38 AM
It essentially is as I said, one's own personal risk tolerance. Some people might have a high risk low reward approach. That's not the best approach but it is an approach.

The only people with a "high risk, low reward" approach are idiots.

Marines.

4093  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: August 09, 2013, 09:41:25 AM
Yifu should give 10,000 FREE 55nm chips to all the DIY designers. BKKCoins, Alten and Burnin. That might have the right positive message to the community. Sickening to see what has happened to such great projects. Here is hoping Avalon actually becomes proactive and supports the DIY builders in the right way.
+1

Most Avalon orders are generated by the work of these people!

I wonder how much was generated by them? That is a really good question. There is certainly a great amount of power in the DIY community. Maybe other chip manufacturers will figure that out and support these sorts of efforts in future but sad to say that I bet quite a few people are going to rethink the whole idea given the result of this.

Hope all this doesn't get you down BKKCoins... really great work so far and if miracles do happen the chips will arrive soon.
4094  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 07:55:44 AM
Asicminer is working on 2nd gen chip (55nm or 65nm) at least since may 17th (first information from friedcat).

Too late?

4096  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WTF Avalon? Ship the Chips! on: August 09, 2013, 05:47:04 AM
The bullshit "announcement" was posted, btw

You know how it is - you've been on a long plane flight - you've been drinking free booze all flight in first class - you get back in front of your computer you've not been near for weeks due to partying, whoring and boozing in Vegas, and it's like
"Hmm PMs and emails while I've been away ... oh well, guess I better say something before I pass out so I can ignore that crap for another week ..."
Wakes up the next morning ... oh crap I said "tomorrow" in the post ... oh well no one will notice anything different if I do nothing for a few days, they're used to that from me, and I am only a PR guy, not like I know anything about hardware or software and have control over anything except delaying deliveries ... ... ...

don't you got better things to do like writing code mr. software engineer than waste time with some first-class-riding booze-drinking "pr guy" like me?

anyhow, update is live on main page. http://avalon-asics.com

Sounds like Kano wants to be partying like a rock star more than he is actually concerned with the millions of dollars the community is invested here guys got no clue. As for Yifu the delays will cause Avalon to be knocked down to BFL status. Do not trust them again. Do not buy from them again. Simple solution.

4098  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 05:12:38 AM
Quote
Soon we will be disabling the pre-order of Avalon Gen1 chips and only sell the remaining stock as we phase out old technology for a new 55nm, which goes on sale for immediate delivery at mid October 2013. This 55nm will retain the same physical dimension as the 110nm Gen1, only few pads were changed so getting them up and running requires very little change to existing design. In addition, there is 2 more chip designs in the pipeline, we have decided to proceed developing Gen3 and Gen4 in parallel due to the long R&D time of low processor nodes, both of these will be a Full Custom ASIC design.

I think it would be in the best interests of the community to start "disabling" Gen2, Gen3 and Gen4 Avalon products. Boycott and let them rot with BFL.
4099  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Product Teasers] Prototype hubs & more from Big Picture Mining Cooperative on: August 09, 2013, 01:40:20 AM
50 port hub that will be inline or slightly higher than the $ / hub as many other smaller USB hubs. It won't be astronomic pricing like that $1200 USD monster however ours will be an unfinished prototype and will be sold only as an unfinished development unit. In late 2014 we will likely release the plans as a DIY Open Source Hardware. As we get to prototyping this week or next we will post some pictures.

Our new miner is hashing but the EE is now debugging it which is exciting to say the least but time consuming and we hope to provide updates as soon as we start making our first prototype run this August.

General disclaimer for our hubs and miners since we are usually doing only limited small runs for the community that will eventually be released as Open Source Hardware several months later after a few production runs are completed:
