I'm super excited about zero knowledge contingent payments. I stated many pages back that zero knowledge proofs was probably the way to go with PoBN and I am even more confident that it can indeed help with validating PoBN.

This sounds indeed groundbreaking!

Georgem, for your first update can you make sure that you address individual concerns?

No, the update I'm preparing will be a purely technical one.
Me talking to the community about dev work.
That's what people are waiting for, and that's what they will get.

But we can talk about your own individual concerns right here, publicly and anytime.

Don't use Slack for this. I literally spent 50 hours during January addressing your concerns on Slack. No more of this!  Roll Eyes

So, what was your concern again?

My only criticisms are that communication is non existent and progress isn't reported.  This makes it very hard to contribute.

How can a team work together if they have no idea what the lead dev is doing?

I mean besides that?

Didn't we agree to research Big Data so we can find a methodology that respects both privacy and decentralization?
Why has there not been any activity in this area?

http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?board=23.0

I thought by now we would be having a pretty heated discussion going on in this subforum. (as has happened in slack)
You know, dissecting the proposal piece by piece, addressing every issue, discussing legalities, concepts, problems, etc..

Why isn't this happening? How exactly is my dev work stopping you from continuing your research?

How can a team work together if they have no idea what the lead dev is doing?

I mean, I created a well thought out roadmap:

http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735.0

and definied a few research areas so that people who want to contribute can help in a more specific way:

http://www.spreadcoin.info/community.php

But still, you keep asking that question.

Anyway, I'll just have to improve this even further I guess.

Weekly dev podcast it is!

I tried the standalone Spreadcoin vanity gen (https://github.com/spreadcoin/vanitygen) but it doesn't seem to work.
It finds matches but when I import the priv key into a wallet it gives a different public address.
I tried specifying a version number (-X) but whatever I add will lead to vanity gen telling me that addresses should start with 1 and not S which is clearly not right so I'm confused.

Vanitygen uses uncompressed addresses by default.

Spreadcoin uses compressed ones.

You can best study the structure of any coins addresses by using http://www.universalwalletgenerator.net/
(Set it up for SPR addresses)

Hail Hydra

haha, why, those are the bad guys!

Please bare with me for a few more days, to get everything in order.

I'm still here, georgem, as every day. Your project is great. Keep up the good work ! Wink

Thank you, I certainly need to step it up a notch.
526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 29, 2016, 08:26:23 PM
Sounds like a scam.   Might as well search for scammernakamoto.  Do not take from our hard earned nodes!  I thought spread coin was above all that.  We do not want to turn into fedoracoin do we?
~GRC

Don't worry, I think people here are just brainstorming, so always take such unofficial ideas with a grain of salt.

One day we might have a vanitygen-competition, but only if it can run on top of a blockchain-based crowd-funding mechanism, where participants themselves decide the goal of the competition and the prize-collateral they are willing to bet. No middlemen whatsoever. And most importantly: people who don't want to participate, don't need to.
Such schemes must always work in a trustless, permissionless manner, where nobody has any control or liability: with only cryptography as the sole guardian needed.

As a libertarian I understand the principles of decentralization pretty well, so rest assured that everything I research and develop has the goal of increasing decentralization, or finding new ways of decentralization where it hasn't been tried before.
I am not here to please investors or fintech or my own or someone elses financial needs. But in the end, the world is in dire need of more decentralization so all the aforementioned parties will find value in truly decentralized systems.

That's why I'm building the decentralized blockexplorer.
That's also why I am building servicenodes that run with a competitive collateral. (decentralizing away the need for a "king" that decides the amount of collateral for everybody else)
Literally everything I will work on will have the name "decentralized" in front of it, or else I'm simply not going to touch it.

You get the idea: if it can't be done in a decentralized way, we shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

So with this in mind, I understand that not everybody here has the same mindset. Not even all of the core members.
But I am not here to police other people's "ideas".

But I'll do everything I can to not let conflicting agendas dissuade spreadcoin from achieving true decentralization.

---

So... I'm putting a few things together.

I understand that what people are most waiting to see is some sort of update about the work I've been doing. And not just once, but in a regular manner, maybe once a week?
It will take me a few days to put all the experiments I have done (and their results) in a digestible form that can be publicly presented.
I do have a promising format in mind that I can use to present updates, possibly in the form of a youtube podcast.

Please bare with me for a few more days, to get everything in order.

Thanks everybody!
527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 28, 2016, 03:30:12 PM
thanks everybody for your input/opinions.

This will require a more in depth answer to clarify things, but alas it is sunday, and tomorrow I do have a full workday.
(can't you natives find a better date to start a riot? lol Roll Eyes )

Anyway,  I'm not going to write this off with a superficial answer, I will thoroughly elaborate on this.
(I have isolated four or five critical points that I will dissect as soon as possible)

But one thing is for sure: I am here to stay, and spreadcoin has a bright future.  Smiley

Stay tuned!

Quatloo and Spreadcoin, 2 big sleepers with which you have to be patient. Both have 5 millions of coins ; but Quatloo has the Poloniex advantage. Quatloo-Trader III and Servicenodes : which will drive the price higher this year ? Who will be the champion of 2016 ? MarkusRomanus or georgem ? It's hard to say, and this is why the battle is exciting. Both are my biggest investments.

As much as price is important in the fact that you don't want to lose money, I think the goal of Spreadcoin, or rather its vision provided to us by the team working on it, is much more than just making the project into a financial success (however you define that). The team has vision that could really provide value to Bitcoin in addition to a number of alt-coins. If SN's support the Bitcoin network by helping facilitate running a large number of nodes with a high percentage of uptime, then that is a HUGE success in itself. An increase in value of SPR will be merely a byproduct of that success. This project has huge implications for how Bitcoin will progress over the next few years and we're all apart of that.

With that in mind, it is really less a competition and more an effort to improve the entire crypto space, which in my opinion makes this project really special.

Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Just focus on your goals and don't let fud take you down Smiley

Never, I will stay on this ship even if I have to wear a scuba diving suit.

Are you implying the ship will go down?  Shocked

I imply that I will continue my work here no matter the price or investor mood.
... as they say: The captain goes down with the ship.
Should FUD move the price down, I will simply put on the scuba diving suit, and continue!
Keeping spreadcoin alive is my first priority.

We will see who will still be around in 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year, etc..
 Cool

Every dev owns at least 10% of his coin. If I was georgem, I would have 1 million of SPR in many accounts.

I have enough. Neither I nor mr. spread ever had that many SPR, we barely touch the top 10.
Devs that get ahold of 10% of the coin mostly manage to do that by having weird premine/instamine schemes, etc...

None of that crap with Spreadcoin!

I guess our wannabe whale has just been our most loyal fan over the last months, good for him.
532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: February 27, 2016, 02:06:39 AM
Anyone know who's address this is?

SQ1NHaacKvSwdRqkr8YwR7hWGAoSj1FAV6

That's a rather unhealthy amount of SPR for just one person.   Shocked
Except ofcourse if its part of an exchange, but I don't think so.

Could be stonehedge? Maybe that's his bag he talked about earlier?

I'm just about to splash out $750k on property and to make it happen I need all the spare change I can put my hands on.
The rest of my bag is staying untouched for the long term.

 Grin

Can't really complain about a decent amount of stash like that.  All purchased on the market. Good luck to him / her / them.

I'll be doing my part and working hard to make him / her / them and everyone else supporting the project a decent return and an exciting project to be part of....

Thanks for your patience.

Dash has ASICs coming so I'm moving all my GPU's over to SPR.

What is the situation with the Windows miner for AMD cards? @WolfO, can we release a decent miner? What's the community fee?

Once we get the servicenodes going (with the decentralized explorer), creating a decent miner (regardless of system and card manufacturer) will be my highest priority.
We will also revisit our pool prevention mechanism and most certainly harden SpreadX11 to make it more demanding on GPUs so as to practically prevent ASICs to ever enter SpreadX11 territory.
So expect further individualization of the SpreadX11 algo!

Until then, patience please!  Wink

Hey guys, is there going to be a date when we merge multiple pull requests or is it ok for me to accept this one:

https://github.com/spreadcoin/spreadcoin/pull/14

It's gonna be in the next major update.
Why? Do you need it right now?

As far as I've checked this a few months ago, it's not necessary to change this line of code to make it compilable with boost > 1.58. Just change how boost is handled in the Makefile.
Anyhow, there is going to be a decision with the next update about what minimum boost, Qt, etc.. version we will require and why.
Ok, I don't need it now, I was just wondering why it hadn't been merged.

Well, all kinds of people are horny to make all kinds of updates all the time. (as you just demonstrated...  Grin )
We need to be very careful with this, and that's why the general rule is to rather do too few adjustments instead of too many.

If you wonder if a fork would happen in a certain constellation you need to do a live test in a testing environment to see what would happen.
We are not going to make any updates without thoroughly testing them first.

will return to normal during the night.

maintenance over.

Can you tell me a thing about you, georgem ? How did you learn to implement servicenode and blockexplorer in wallet ?

I am a selfemployed programmer for over 10 years now (working for customers in EU, CH and US)
I'll post more info about this soon, the more we progress.

For now: I am here to stay!  Smiley
