Fortunately those items would be DOA: One of the nice things about being in a plutocracy is that the wealthy will NEVER harm themselves. So anything more than a token increase in CG isn't going to happen, and wealth taxes won't happen either.

Methinks you underestimate the threat of populism. Politician's pockets may be lined by the rich, but they're ultimately voted in by the public (electoral fraud notwithstanding).

Hm. Populism is probably not a major issue to holders of wealth since the people who fall for it are easily led into more productive avenues such as hating (insert appropriate rage topic) instead of the wealthy. They will do this while electing plutocrat "populists" to power (see Perot, R.; Trump, etc) and support them while they vote 2t tax cuts for the "wealthy" right in the middle of it.

There is a hook of "we'll get you something from "those" people, but those who believe they can get "something for nothing" are without a doubt the easiest marks for traditional confidence games. As a citation, see GSE, recent Doge/silver pumps, and Wall Street "Bets"....

While there are exceptions (see revolution, French) it seems that what is substituted into a populist movement is a sanction for someone to hate. It's been this way since William Jennings Bryan and the ole Cross of Gold.

So unless you totally blow your populism movement I don't think it's a problem. Such movements just fall apart under the weight of the scams perpetrated upon their members (cash 4 gold, beet juice, ethereum, etc)

Edit: Cleaned this up a bit. It's a complicated topic but I have noticed that populist movements get hijacked pretty quickly to serve other ends (see Christ, J., American Revolution, French Revolution, Russian Revolution, etc)

If wealth taxes start being egregious, it might be time to consider an exit. Lots of countries where your money will go a long way.

Agreed.  It's amazing how far your money (or Bitcoin) goes in some other beautiful places in other countries.

My exit strategy is planned, locked, and loaded.

Talk to people here who went to some of these "beautiful countries" (Panama? Thailand?) where they barely escaped with their lives.

Things can be... complex... out there.

Then after Kamala, no chrome.

Why would you care anymore? That's the whole point of bitcoin.

The introduction of wealth taxes, and increasing capital gains taxes can take an even larger chunk of our bitcoin though.
Fortunately those items would be DOA: One of the nice things about being in a plutocracy is that the wealthy will NEVER harm themselves. So anything more than a token increase in CG isn't going to happen, and wealth taxes won't happen either.

It's possible TPTB will just outlaw bitcoin ownership under the usual penalty of death and such, but in that case we still have the bitcoins in our minds and those can't be released without the usual torture or a club. If society gets to that level we have different problems.

It is far far easier to just fuck with the current monetary system and screw over working and "poor" people who base their lives around fiat then it is to go after a few of us. And besides as bitcoin will go up prices will go up as well so you may be paying 2.5btc for a Tesla or 10 million in shit-dollars for a Tesla.

Start thinking of it this way: The value of bitcoin is not going up, the value of fiat is going down.

Just a sobering reminder, lest we get too over-exuberant...

(I was actually hoping to get one of the Wile-e-coyote ones but they have sadly all expired).

We will most definitely be over exuberant...  no doubt about that.  And we will also get to feel those drops.  Certainly Bitcoin is gonna have to hit all these institutional noobs with some of it's famous volatility before it just levels out in the stratosphere?

I think it's that endorphins thing...
Once you had too much of em, you get bored out afterwards.

EDIT: Almost everything i touch breaks, falls to the ground or goes wrong in some way today.
I better chain myself to the bed and watch some Simpsons episodes.
Have some good pumps tonight!

Pretty much. After 2 days of smiling all the time and making chirping noises like a squirrel I'm getting back to normal.

I cashed it in for £2,500 during one of its peaks, and had a great holiday in Iceland - the cash came in handy, Iceland is lovely but expensive."
And now I can book a flight and hotel for 2 nights in Iceland for like $500. Might just do it in Q3 because I am bored.

BTW what has happened to V8? Not seen him around for a while?

he is doing fine. no worries.

He should at least cancel his merit app thread. A bunch of people went to bat for him (self included) and it feels a bit silly.

Yep, that and p2pool were the way to go. And given that other pools "vanished" along the way *grumble* with coin balances it was nice to get paid for work done.

Miss it, slush is a fine pool, just isn't quite the same.

We really should start the 100k party with everyone around a huge table with a loving cup.....

model X is kind of understatement from outside, which i like a lot. inside it is fkn huuuuge.  (i always hated car fumes, made me sick all my life starting from childhood. always annoyed me, inducing nausea. the combustion engine might be a well engineered kind of achievement, but all the oil, stinking fumes, the grime/smut... disgusting... really disgusting... - now, this Tesla is clean like a fresh pack of shiny white handkerchiefs. and absolutely no sound...  rides very smooth.  )

and on top of it all, event hough it is a family car, it accelerates like a beast in less than 3 sec to 100km/h.  if i push ludicrous mode it pulls so hard that my glasses are pushed over my head. no joke. i showed some friends, after two rounds we had to stop, sweating soaking wet. the acceleration is ... hard to describe. my 911 feels like a snail compared to it.  i dont think there are many regular of the shelve cars out there that could beat a model x. maybe none.

Hm. Thanks for the data point 600w, I appreciate it. One of my personal flaws is I tend to extrapolate my experiences with some things to encompass others: Having driven a 2000's Sienna for years I acquired a serious distaste for minivans even though it was a fine vehicle with pretty good acceleration. Then driving the Cayenne made me think of it as a really fast minivan (still ug) and I extended that projection to the Tesla X without actually trying it (ie: All SUVs suck).

They probably don't, and the X sounds like an interesting option for a family car. Will keep that in mind going forward.

now that price has gone up once more, everyone is starting to wish they were a #BitcoinHodler but only a few are true Hodlers like me Wink

I'm also a small Hodler

Doesn't matter, you're a hodler.

Well, down to $45.5k.

We're poor again.

Gentlemen.

Yes, I get that. If it's a genuine passion, I'm all for it. For me it's just a means of transportation to get me from point A to point B.

That works. I'm not really looking for show when it all comes down to it, I want something that will give me a quiet happiness. Fun car gives me happiness cuz I drive a fair bit. Nice pocket watch gives me happiness because the gold feels tangible and the construction is a thing of beauty. Trip with the family gives me happiness because it's an experience. Doing something new gives me happiness. A plane *might* give me happiness, not sure about that one.

Debating on *massive weekend bender in Vegas or Monaco with WO people* would bring me happiness. It might, I wonder about that sometimes.

If we hit 100k or more I consider a 718 GT4  Cool Lambo seeks too much attention

*nod* 718's are perfectly nice cars. I gotta say I was very impressed with the Panamera, it's a true *driving on highways* car that I haven't seen since the 928GT series.
558  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 08, 2021, 11:43:32 PM
Preparing for a future family.
*nod* Oh, ok. I think the S can seat 7 or something like that, need to find a dealership to see if/how I fit in the back seat.

Minivans.... suck. But they do work really well for having kids and all that. Trying to drive a wife and 2 babies around in a 69 Porsche 911E is a bit snug.

The question is: what would you prefer if you just have two options?
Lamborghini or Tesla?  Wink

Lamborghini is a Volkswagen now, in essence. So if is not Audi, then clearly the Tesla  Grin
Yeah, I know. Porsche is also VW nowadays thanks to that idiotic short squeeze stunt they did in 2008. Why I don't want anything later than the 2008-2010 models, all VW after that.
