Good luck in the upcoming Havelock IPO Smiley

Disclaimer:
We don't endorse the IPO. Each investor should do his/her ROI calculation and decide whether to invest or not.

That is interesting video right there...

Those chips don't seem to get the Novec vapourizing much. Speaks well to the SP10 as an air cooled unit. SP30 board be keen to see that.

Quick introduction, since this will be my fist post here. I am a work colleague of antirack, and I am the one that have been doing the setups for this "lab" tests.

I have been running the SP10 for quite a while now, it works great, just not very optimal circumstances for the boards as they had to be placed horizontal and heat dissipation side down. Hence also a bit tricky to get a good recording of the action, if you so will.

Short explanation: Unlike AM Gen3, we designed the our 1st gen ASIC (Hammer) to dissipate the heat downward, which is far better for QFN package, in our opinion.

Isn't it a mistake to design a QFN package to do anything but (mostly) dissipate downwards?

Finally got my miners set up! Woo Hoo!

However, I have some support questions:

1) I am getting hardware errors on both units: one is running at between 1-2%, the other between 0.2-.05%. Is this acceptable or does it imply I have a faulty unit?

2) What is a safe temperature to run these at? My hottest one is running at 45C being clocked at 270. I'm working on getting a fan for the backsides, which seems to help.

3) Anyone know how to set temperature safety in BFGMiner? I understand you can set it to turn off if a certain temperature is reached as a safety mechanism, but I can't figure out how to set that up from reading the readme file.

Thanks.

1) 2% is fine

2) Not sure on these chips, but you will be able to run way, way, way, higher.

What is everyone using for a power supply?

I'd recommend the 12V mains adapters as in the OP, its scary how cheap they are. Can get to be quite a lot of cables if you want 20 R-Boxes, but for the average miners they're great.

To add to this:
If you look up the data sheet of Novec based fire extinguishers, look in the toxicity section. It says its 'safe'. Look at the methodology. The acute 4 hour poisoning is 'safe', which means given the assumptions it has a 60-120% safety margin. This goes entirely out the window when you're dealing with a warehouse full of the stuff.

Nonsense.

http://solutions.3mae.ae/wps/portal/3M/en_AE/3MNovec_APAC/Home/Support/Safety/

This page explains the safety pretty well.

As for cavitation, I know it exists.

What I don't know is whether it exists in 2-phase immersion cooling but I do know that it's not a problem because extensive testing has shown it's not a problem.

Safety Margin    69 – 138%

Do you know what a safety factor is? Bad things happen once its breached. The page says 'yeah its less than the dangerous dose + a bit... when its at this specific %'. That doesn't mean the vapour itself is safe, it just means under that dilution its safe. The safety factor would be 100x-infinity if it was actually safe.
5565  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 17, 2014, 01:27:44 AM
Hey guys, I am having some trouble with a miner I just received, just sent an email to Bitmain, but any support would be appreciated.  Here is the problem...

I received my S2 unit today.  I opened it and immediately plugged it in and ran into a few problems that I am unsure of the cause of.  When turned on, the LCD lights up, but nothing shows up on it.  When I go to IP 192.168.1.99, it shows the main screen, but does not asks for login information, and whenever I try to click on any of the other tabs, it tells me that the webpage is unavailable.

After turning it on and off a few times, I opened up the case and removed all but one of the hash boards and made sure that everything was plugged in correctly, including the SD card.  Still received the same problem.  Then I switched the board that was in slot 1 with another hash board, and then tried to turn it on again.  I was able to login and set my pool information, but when I looked at the miner status page, it showed that all the work was discarded and nothing was showing up on my pool.  I rebooted it a few times, and every time it was rebooted, the pool information was reset to factory settings.  I also noticed that the hardware version was not displaying anything like it had for my other units.  After another reboot, I was back to not being able to login, and instead getting the main page, and not being able to click anywhere.  I tried most of the different hashboards in slot 1 and every single one was giving me the same problem.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know, thanks for the ideas...

Reimage the SD card, if that still doesn't work replace the SD card entirely.

They claimed there was no need for independent verification because they were shipping to customers and customers would prove the miners. The last 4 times this has happened, its not ended well.

2. 3M really very dangerous for people, in case of leak liquid. Service staff have to use gas respirator, if they wanna to stay alive.

How so? Novec fluid has very low toxicity and is nonflamable (even used in fire extinguishers).

I've also never heard of cavitation being a problem. Got a source for that?

Also any progress on the pacific 2000? Shipping date? Power consumption at the wall?

that is reason, they can not get safety certificate, and probably will never get it.
If large volume of liquid leak... it could be lethal dose. This liquid is ether in fact.

if you have never heard about cavitation damage, it does not mean this problem is not exists

Test units? Im in Hong Kong so I can probably save you loads of money as well as only 1-2 days delivery from mainland (standard using SF express - if). Other that that, I'm interested, new miners -> better competition -> Hopefully motivate other companies to do a better job!

I've not been able to get anywhere with them.

Hey again.
During this time we were faced with some technical problems.
These problems has been solved successfully

To Dogie: we will send device to you nearest days.

Thanks for understanding

Noted.

0,75 Watt per Gh lackluster, the price certainly your high, who would buy the mining machine

Its some of the best for large scale implementations, for now at least.

Have you receive the miner yet dogie?

No, not yet.
5575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: XBTec Announce. New ASIC manufacturer on: June 15, 2014, 07:13:37 PM
Not sure what that answers. If it is used in fire extinguishers the vapor can't be harmful.

I've never heard anyone claim the vapor is dangerous let alone lethal.

What I was saying was that its the vapours that kill. The liquid itself is fine, but the vapours suck. It doesn't matter if its used in a fire extinguisher, plenty of things are used in the fire extinguishers which are toxic (like the powder ones). They're not licensed for residential use because of it.

5577  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: June 15, 2014, 12:41:34 AM
Got my first S2 yesterday.  Mining happily away.  I noticed that the #9 chain is not showing the temperature.  Could that simply be a loose connection?  I wasn't trying to power down to take it apart.  Or should I be concerned?

I'd ignore it, not seen a solution yet. Might be dead sensor in the actual board, lose internal connector, bad external connection, we just don't know. Makes no difference though.
5578  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Gigampz PSU Breakout Board Setup [HD] on: June 15, 2014, 12:40:54 AM
can you comment on the jumper setting/config please?

When the jumper is on pins 1 and 2, the PSU is off. Pins 2 and 3, the PSU is on. Also no jumper = PSU off.

0a) What to Expect (top)

The Gigampz is a breakout board designed to adapt HP's DPS-800GBA into a low cost option for mining. There is no soldering required, and up to 850/1000W
can be provided very easily (120/240V).  Four power supplies can be remotely monitored and controlled with one Raspberry Pi.

Rated Voltage12V
Rated.Current70A (120V), 82A (240V)
Rated Power850W (120V), 1000W (240V)

0b) What You Need (top)
You will need the following:

1) Cable Preparation (top)
DPS-800's utilise a goldfinger power distribution interface, which the Gigampz converts into a screw terminal interface. These can be used to directly power
miners with other screw terminals such as AntMiner S1s with simple cable, however this is not the norm. Most miners use PCI-E connectors, and so we need
to prepare and wire in some PCI-E cables.

Power Supply:
(Click.your.flag)

Power Cable:
(Click.your.flag)

PCI-E Cables:
(Click.your.flag)

The first step is to cut off the female end of the extender. You can leave a few cm if you feel like you might have a use for them in the future, although it will
shorten your cables. Peel back the braiding and strip about a cm of insulation off. I used common scissors, just be careful not to damage the conductors inside.

The three cable stands closest to the clip on the male end of the connector are the ground cables (negative), and the three furthest away are the 12V cables
(positive). Mark these red with some insulation table, a marker, rubber bands or such. This is very important, as if you get even just one of the cables wrong,
you will short the power supply and/or your miner. Check and double check this stage. Refer to the pinout diagram below if unsure.

Screw in the 12V cable stands into the 12V half of the Gigampz and the same for the ground wires. You can put two wires in the same terminal, just
remember to twist them together first.

Finally, push the Gigampz onto the interface of the power supply. It is possible to do this upside down, so make sure the top side of the power supply and
Gigampz are both facing the same way. Miners are powered on by placing the jumper onto pins 2 and 3, and powered off by removing it or placing it on pins 1 and 2.
