641  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum wallet on: May 27, 2016, 12:05:35 PM
But why can't we use a Yubikey with Electrum?
I use 2FA on everything to do with Bitcoin, but I feel like that is more of a pain, and more likely to be lost or stolen than a YubiKey would.

I'd be interested to know if there is a good reason!
642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: May 27, 2016, 12:01:11 PM

"15 million tokens are reserved for bounties and the development team in the following proportions:
- 1 million tokens will be distributed to early supporters. Please check additional details below.
- 1 million tokens are reserved for post-ICO bounties.
- 4 million tokens are reserved for strategical partners and backers
- 9 million tokens are withheld by the development team. "

Seems like a of of reserved (pre-mined) tokens.
Especially when 9 million of being 'withheld by the delevopment team', not used for any advancement of WAVES, just for the advancement of the developers!
643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: selling DAO after 2016-05-28 on: May 27, 2016, 11:41:26 AM
Yes, I found this:
http://blog.kraken.com/post/144971320167/kraken-to-support-dao-trading

The DAO tokens will trade under the abbreviation “DAO” with the following trade pairs available at launch:

    DAO/XBT (bitcoin)
    DAO/ETH (ether)
    DAO/EUR (euro)
    DAO/USD (US dollar)
    DAO/CAD (Canadian dollar)
    DAO/GBP (British pound)
    DAO/JPY (Japanese yen)

Interesting, I don't really know how that works, DAO is built into Ethereum, people have to exchange ETH to get DAO.  How can they then sell DAO for BTC or Fiat?
Doesn't that mean there is less ETH in circulation, it is essentially burned when the sale is made.

644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal chargeback concerns for Bitcoin related transaction is a myth on: May 27, 2016, 06:25:57 AM
The problem is that generally Paypal don't really go through the details of a transaction.
Someone buys something, they say it didn't arrive, you can't prove that you sent it, they get their money back.

It would be a farce for Paypay to have a blockchain team to check if transactions were actually made.  They should just add an unreversible transaction mode, then it would be easy.
645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can so many new alts affect of dilute Bitcoin investments? on: May 27, 2016, 06:23:02 AM
Well, there is the question. So many new coins and tokens being published on a weekly basis. Can all these coins affect BTC in any way? Can they drive investments away from BTC and if they can, what s the whole point? Personally, I am always for innovations but recently, I cant keep up with all these new opportunities and I do not think the market s wide enough to let all of these coexists.

There are a few alts out there that are worthy of being taken note of, but given that there are hundreds of alts, I would say most can be ignored.
I am sure that some quality coins will ultimately die due to lack of interest, but plenty of other pretty scammy ones will reach $100mill market cap too!

Basically, look at the highest cap coins, and keep your eyes open for new tech, or interesting ICOs.  Otherwise I don't think you are missing anything.
646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum - Time to buy or time to sell? on: May 25, 2016, 09:22:38 AM
Selling is the current trend as of this post but planning to buy it back at bottom low.

When the price is 0.034, it is better to sell. When the price is 0.02, it is better to buy. Now, it is difficult.
You don't have to buy or sell, you can wait for the market to move to a point that you feel offers value in one direction or the other.

at 0.028 I agree, it could go either way. People might want to get into the DAO so buy ETH, or maybe they are done buying now as the price is rising, so the price will stabilize or fall.
Best not to trade if you don't have a strong opinion though, imo.
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wow! Great read. Bitcoin is definately busted. Here is why... on: May 25, 2016, 06:57:09 AM
Yeah, using a link that talks about ethereum and the dao is a very good way to back up your claims that bitcoin is busted..

When will it get through to you all that bitcoin and ethereum are different things and used for different things?

Bitcoin might be in a mess regarding the way it is going, but it has been for a long time now and it is not a reason for collapse anymore. It is working at the moment and the stuff that is debated about is stuff that will come in the future (Ok, have to admint transactions can take quite long now, and fees are increasing).

Thanks for being honest with this part. That's the truth of the matter, and explains the situation as it is unfolding today, ETH is going to mop up all the investment, transactions, and users that can't fit in a 1MB block BTC.

Eth is not made for transactions. It was never meant to be a currency, therefore it will not replace bitcoin in that regard.

The Eth network is also clogging up due to the massive amount of transactions that were not expected. Their blockchain is bloating every minute.

For investments and building projects on top, eth is probably going to take the major share, but for store of wealth and transactions, it will not.

Urgent:

Tell these people to stop transferring wealth and making transactions 40,000 times per day! It's not made for it, and my hdd will be full soon! Will someone pleeease think of the rasberry pi's!

I can't get my Mist to catch up.  How are people supposed to use Ether if they can only really store them at an exchange.
Luckily I only have a small number of Ether in my wallet, but it seems crazy to me that my mid-range laptop can't sync with the Ether network.

Geth just stops updating after a while, so I can't just leave it on, before anyone says.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: actual number of people using Bitcoin? on: May 25, 2016, 06:25:30 AM
I think the number of active forum members here is probably as good an indicator of bitcoin's popularity as the number of addresses and other methods suggested.
I guess there must be a Chinese Bitcointalk equivalent, so add that number in too.  It would be a massive underestimation, but I fear that most other numbers would be overestimations.

2 million users/holders would be my ball park guess.
649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LISK on POLONIEX TODAY. on: May 24, 2016, 05:02:12 PM
Generally when coins are listed on Poloniex they go crazy for a while, then they start to find their level after a few hours.
I wonder with LISK if it will be massively pumped, then crash down pretty quickly.

I don't think it is a short term positive for Ether. With the falls already today, I expect money to move into LISK, even if just for a short pump.

Not much true bitcoin news there.  The blockchain seems to be becoming more and more popular, I hope that Bitcoin the currency isn't forgotten when people look at blockchains.

By the way, you misspell your own website. You might want to change that![/list]
651  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian fligh controllers saved 2 passanger liners over the Sea of Japan on: May 23, 2016, 02:08:32 PM
Russian is emerging as a new world leader.
Of what exactly?

Their economy is on it's knees.  They might be in the right about Syria (might) but the oil price has ruined them.
They aren't the military force people think they are.  They have poor human rights records.  Would you choose to live in Russia instead of say the UK or Germany?
652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When can we actually trade DAO? on: May 23, 2016, 01:54:50 PM
Whether it be p2p or exchange. When can we actually trade or send DAO?
By the way, as no one actually answered your question.  The ICO finishes on the 28th, you should be able to trade your DAO soon afterwards.

I guess you mean sell though, as you could buy now, so the only new thing is that you, and everyone else, can sell your DAO.
653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: $1,000 invested in Eth today *could* be $10,000+ or $100,000+ within 1-2 years on: May 23, 2016, 01:51:37 PM

$1,000 invested in Eth today *could* be $10,000+ or $100,000+ within 1-2 years

Correct, it could.
It could also be worth $0, or still $1000 or pretty much any value really!

Thanks for the 'information' though.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Blast from the Past: Irrational Optimism and Bitcoin on: May 23, 2016, 01:49:37 PM
They are all just guessing and it is human nature to exagerrate predictions .

Look in the speculation section, everyone seems to say Bitcoin will be either zero or $1,000,000 in a short while.
It isn't just Bitcoin, alts do exactly the same thing. The price rises by 25% in one day from $1 to $1.25, so they expect it will be $50 in the next year!

Just enjoy the ride, hope that the price goes up, but if you don't believe in the project, sell out!
655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Who will be the next victim for Vitalik to dump his Ethereum IPO scamtokens on? on: May 22, 2016, 05:01:29 PM
r0ach there is just one thing I'm not sure I follow with your theory:

there is 11M ETH stuck in the DAO fund, but you cant redeem them until *i think* 48 days after the DAO creation; sothese 11M eth could stay stuck there for a while on not until the 28th.

we'll have BTC/DAO and ETH/DAO for sure, but how will that impact ETH price? For instance, lets say I have invested 100 eth into the dao, thus I have 1K DAO. If I decide to sell them and if everyone will the BTC/DAO and ETH/DAO will decrease but how will that impact ETH/BTC? Maybe there is something I missing, if so please explain!

From what i understand, your whole ETH doom theory rests on BTC going to the moon around the halving. But there are still many inner problems unresolved, and there are many trusted agent that predict a catastrophic scenario regarding bitcoin halving:

mircea_popescu: anwyay, yes, bitcoin is traversing perhaps the first true crisis since its founding, between now and the halving.
mircea_popescu: let the fucktards meet the halving on halved price

logs here: http://btcbase.org/log-search?q=halving

anyway, you also have to understand that from the perspective of many observators of this forum you are just acting the opposite way of the so called ETH shills, beause you are pumping bitcoin future bubble like its a guarantee.

That isn't how I understand it. You can't bypass ETH to buy or sell DAO.

The exchange could do the 2 steps automatically foy ou, but I don't think you can use Bitcoin to directly buy, or sell DAO, now or in the future.
656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero ICO on: May 22, 2016, 04:26:07 AM
I think now that Monero has flopped they could consider relaunching the network with an ICO

I mean like LISK and etc is doing, just use an existing project (in Monero's case Monero, in Lisk's case Crypti), and relaunch it with an ICO to work on the unfinished product.

That means Monero devs can attract a lot of funds and then finally finish the GUI etc

what say you,  folks?

Are you talking about a Swap with an ICO?   Huh

Actually I mean just like LISK is doing now. Close the old project (Crypti), offer some bonus for Crypti holders in the ICO. Reopen with the same code, edit/revise/finish it with the help of the ICO funds.
Monero can close the old chain and issue the ICO. Old Monero holders can exchange their coins for the new Monero.
This way Monero devs can revive Monero, and gain the funds necessary to finish the GUI and other important stuff that's been neglected.

 Cool

You know you're trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist? You can follow the progress with the following links:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=753252.msg14830769#msg14830769

The presumption that throwing money or people at technical problems misses that bigger or more isn't always better--especially with complex programs that hinge on separate parts working seamlessly together. Or maybe a million monkeys could actually write Hamlet.

Though it seems pretty unlikely: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem

What he means is: I wish the price of Monero would be ridiculously pumped by some sort of mechanism.  He has noticed that ICOs pump the prices of new coins very high, ergo Monero should also have an ICO.

Yes it is studid and makes no sense, but the price should be pumped somehow!
657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A radical - $150 million experiment - using Ethereum on: May 21, 2016, 08:08:32 PM
Surely the price of DAO will fall too as soon as the ICO is over.
Everyone who bought will be considering if they should sell.  Anyone who wanted to buy could have done so during the unlimited ICO, so I can only see one direction that the price can go initially.

Or have I missed something?
658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When can we actually trade DAO? on: May 21, 2016, 08:04:06 PM
isnt it overbought? how many tokens gonnabe created? over the billion? that is crazy it cant ROI high, it needs too much money

I think it is overbought, in that it has raised more money than it should have.
But I don't agree that it can't ROI.  It takes money to make money as the saying goes, so having lots to invest actually means they will have more power and can look to invest in bigger projects.

I wouldn't invest in DAO, but lots of investors is probably a good thing for DAO as a whole.
659  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: May 21, 2016, 08:00:00 PM
I think Man Utd will win but it's still 0-0 on 56 minutes. Maybe we will see extra time & even penalties.

I was right, It ended 2-1 to Man Utd. I wonder if this means LVG will keep his job & avoid the sack.

I just looked at the bbc website and the headline was:
Jose Mourinho: Former Chelsea boss to be named Manchester United manager

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36351371

So I guess Van Gaal won't be keeping his job, it looks like it was already decided well before today.
660  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: May 21, 2016, 07:58:15 PM
Well that was crap. No goals.  Angry
All cup finals are going into extra time today.

It's been a decent game though.  I don't really want to see penalties.

I hope for a Dortmund counter and 1-0 win, but I fear some annoying Bayern player (almost any of them) will get a deflected winner.
