TRUMP PREDICTED 9/11 19 MONTHS BEFORE IT HAPPENED!

So what? The Simpsons predicted this four years before it happened. Heck, The Simpsons even predicted President Trump 16 years before it happened!  Cheesy
662  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Hosting - MITM (man-in-the-middle) Attack - Paying Cash To Cloudfare on: September 13, 2023, 09:42:01 PM
Theoretically, there is a risk of an MITM attack but till now there hasn't been any report of such attacks targeting Cloudflare. However, the original website still be vulnerable if they bypass the security layer of Cloudflare and do not correctly secure their server.

In short, if the website follows all the security parameters it must have, the risk of this type of attack is at the same level whether you use Cloudfare or any other service.

Now, I ask: why change something that is working well and fulfills its objective?

That is why I called this a baseless rant.

Bitcointalk.org has been using CloudFlare security functions for nearly six years now, and as far as I know, there haven't been any issues or complaints about MITM attacks or data leaks during that time. People have talked this over extensively, and all the details are out there if you take a moment to search for them. (It took me less than five minutes to find theymos' thread on this).

But apparently, some members feel that the OP made a good point and should even be congratulated for it, even though he didn't provide any useful information or suggestion, and most of his post is based on pure speculation and half-truths.

Yes, CF is a MITM. Anyone who has used their services and read the terms already knows it. That is the only truthful part in the OP's statement. Everything else is just nonsense.

@h4nnmann11,

I just checked out your complaint on casino.guru again. It looks like they need some more details from you about your issue with Vave casino. It is best to do it before the deadline to avoid them closing the complaint.
664  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin Wallet Board In Alternate Cryptocurrencies Needed - Why Admin Sleep ? on: September 12, 2023, 09:33:15 PM
Just some altcoin multi wallets support Bitcoin, but not almost all. Very popular MetaMask or Tronlink wallets, for example, do not support Bitcoin.

That is not true. Almost all popular multi-cryptocurrency wallets support Bitcoin; you simply singled out two that work with EVM networks and do not support the Bitcoin network.

All popular altcoins are also supported in hardware wallets.

Also not true. There are hardware wallets designed specifically for Bitcoin that do not support any shitcoins.

And the reason for the altcoin wallet board - altcoins are more and more popular, especially for new crypto users.

Still irrelevant to the true purpose of BitcoinTalk.org forum.
665  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Hosting - MITM (man-in-the-middle) Attack - Paying Cash To Cloudfare on: September 12, 2023, 08:56:53 PM
Even if Bitcointalk is not hosted in Cloudfare, the MITM (man-in-the-middle) problem is the same - after the Cloudfare server the connection can simply be clear text.

Where did you get the information that the traffic between CF and the bitcointalk hosting server is unencrypted? There is no evidence to support that claim.
Just because something "can be" does not mean it is.
666  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Hosting - MITM (man-in-the-middle) Attack - Paying Cash To Cloudfare on: September 12, 2023, 08:45:41 PM
As far as I know, bitcointalk is not hosted by CloudFlare, but CF is used to prevent DDoS attacks.

To answer to your question:

Here's what would need to be done to replace Cloudflare: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2497008.0

eXch.cc, could you please explain why you felt that this baseless rant deserves so much merit?
667  Other / Meta / Re: Fixing broken images on other's post? on: September 12, 2023, 08:04:08 PM

I've had this thought for a while, and I'm sharing it now as it might provide a possible solution for posting guides created by others, with all the images.

You can follow _act_'s advice and reach out to the original poster. Or, there is a simple solution you can do yourself:

  • Quote the entire post.
  • While in Edit mode, you will find all the original Imgur links within the quoted text. These should work when accessed directly.

Now, you have two options:
  • Manually edit the images by uploading them to the TalkImg service and updating the URL.
  • Publish the post as is and use the Imgur to TalkImg script, which will automate the process for you.

- This will upload and edit all imgur.com links found on your post history (even those inside quotes you made of other people).

not sure about the authenticity as sometimes ChatGPT is not reliable at all I was trying to get references, but unfortunately, I cant find any...
~

ChatGPT is not a search engine, obviously; it is a language model. It generates responses from the massive amount of text it learned from. Sharing responses that may not align with reality is not only unhelpful but potentially misleading.

If you are eager to contribute something valuable to the community, I recommend conducting your own research. Relying solely on ChatGPT for information may not always bring the most reliable results.

If you like facts, check here market cup of Bitcoins and altcoins
~

So, what is your point here? Bitcoin still holds its place as the most popular cryptocurrency with a market dominance that far exceeds any other individual altcoin. But even if not, does it really matter? As already pointed out, this is still Bitcointalk forum.

Would you, for example, go to vwvortex.com (a VW enthusiast forum) and suggest that they should have more Fiat-related boards?  Grin
670  Other / Meta / Re: posting in another board is it allowed? on: September 11, 2023, 09:14:23 PM
Recently I have been trying to gain knowledge from other locals as I believe that some of the local boards do carry's some useful information which one would like want to interact with people around such local board but since the person ( me or any) are not a native of such local board is it permitted to reply post over there using at least page translator or a google translator to communicate in such board.

Unless it is spam, I believe it is allowed.

There is a rule against using automated translation tools to post content in Local boards, but I think that if you post both versions of the content, English and translated, no one will report your post to the moderators. Even if it does get reported, the moderators probably won't delete it as long as it is not spam. Different local moderators might have varying approaches to this, though.
671  Other / Meta / Re: Trust Feature idea: give DT1 the ability to remove specific feedbacks from DT on: September 10, 2023, 06:56:46 PM
Flags have rather strict rules and feedback doesn't. Otherwise there was no need in flags, it could be done on a base of quantity of tags. Some tags are left on the very boundaries of a consensus of a Trust system; flags in the same cases would have been opposed, because of strict rules. If to make the same system as flags, then what will be the difference, why do we need two similar systems?

But we already have different levels of flags, why not introduce just one more, for example, Flag Type 0 (which would replace neg. trust).

I said "destroy Trust system reputation", not the system itself. It doesn't matter if you are in DT1 or in DT2, your tags will stay visible by default the same way. If the number of votes for and against tags will change each DT1 reshuffle, there will be flickering in feedback: some tags will appear while some will disappear. Does it look reasonable and reputable when the same tag of a same person is correct when there's one DT1 composition and becomes totally incorrect with another DT1 composition in a month and the same way each month?

Again, we already have such a system with flags. Besides, I believe the number of such cases would be relatively low. Consider this scenario: if a flag receives the necessary support from DT1 members to become active, and one of those members later drops out of the DT pool, we have two options. We can either keep the flag active, or the flag becomes inactive until it secures the support of at least one more new DT1 member.

No need for you to investigate such a case if you don't like to investigate. It'll be similar to flag support and it's working well currently.

Right, no need for me, no need for someone else. So if someone will gather with several like-minded they can change a system as they will like, because majority won't get much additional time to do much additional work to monitor the correctness of Trust system work.

As for flag system: it is different. Tags are much less strict. I voted for 205 flags because it is easy in many cases, but I left just a 100 tags and big number of them is based on one big farm investigation.

But that is actually a good thing. Flags need thorough investigation and supporting evidence. That is why it is usually pretty straightforward to check out the evidence and investigation someone else has done and decide whether to support or oppose the flag. Tags, on the other hand, often get slapped on without much reference or clear evidence. Those kinds of tags should not be part of the trust system.
672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can pow and pos be mixed and run alternately? on: September 10, 2023, 05:01:41 PM

Can anyone develop such a project?

We already have that, it is called the Proof-of-Activity (PoA) algorithm.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/proof-activity-cryptocurrency.asp

Quote
Proof-of-activity (PoA) is a blockchain consensus algorithm used in cryptocurrencies and similar systems. It is used to ensure that all transactions occurring on the blockchain are genuine, as well as to ensure that all miners arrive at a consensus. PoA is a combination of two other blockchain consensus algorithms: proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake (PoS).
673  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Usb Encryption on: September 10, 2023, 04:33:46 PM
I think most folks who prefer to keep their private keys and seed phrases only in digital form, without any old-school "hard copy" backup, might be a bit in the dark about what is really going on inside those memory cells in their SSDs and Flash drives and might not be fully aware of all the risks involved. I even saw someone saying they feel safe because they have copies on two flash drives. That gave me a good laugh!
674  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction on: September 10, 2023, 01:35:26 PM

Exactly. Expressing your opinion is one thing, but providing entirely worthless and false information to someone's question is counterproductive to the purpose of this forum.

We need a downvote function on this forum!
675  Other / Meta / Re: Trust Feature idea: give DT1 the ability to remove specific feedbacks from DT on: September 10, 2023, 01:25:10 PM
Here is an idea. What if we completely remove the negative trust (making it neutral) and use only flags for trust issues and trade risk?
Flags don't apply to most of the users who I gave negative feedback. Take this guy for example.

They do not now, but they could if theymos makes it so. The guy from your example is a trade risk.
676  Other / Meta / Re: Trust Feature idea: give DT1 the ability to remove specific feedbacks from DT on: September 09, 2023, 09:51:06 PM
Here is an idea. What if we completely remove the negative trust (making it neutral) and use only flags for trust issues and trade risk?

A newbie-warning flag is active if there are more people supporting such a flag than opposing it.

theymos could make some tweaks to how it is displayed so that the Type 1 flag isn't just for newbie warnings.
677  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin forum app store on: September 09, 2023, 09:21:28 PM
Okay, I'll just make it and show you the application  Smiley

That would be great, but I honestly doubt it will ever happen. Just out of curiosity, how do you plan to make your app communicate with the bitcointalk.org server? You know there is no API for bitcointalk? I am not saying it is impossible; I just think you might not have a clear idea of how to do it.
678  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction on: September 09, 2023, 08:13:41 PM
I have the receiving address but it is under cashapp as i never do btc transactions and the wallet was easy to receive on 😞

That is why such wallets are not really good because you do not have full control over your bitcoin or transactions.

Do you have any contact with the person who sent you the bitcoins? Or did you acquire them through a centralized exchange? They should be able to increase the transaction fee from their end to get the transaction confirmed.

The receiving address have got nothing to do with the confirmation time or speed at which a coin is being or would be delivered. All it does is simply at the word, receive. Where there could be some manipulations to alter the speed of deliver is at the senders end.

This is not entirely true because the receiver can theoretically create a new transaction with unconfirmed inputs and use CPFP to pay the fee for both transactions.
679  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to bridge BTC onchain to ETH ? on: September 09, 2023, 08:00:15 PM
Does such as service exist? I recall there was one that was called RennBTC (or something similar) however due to FTX collapse they got shut down. I recall it was possible to take Bitcoin on the bitcoin blockchain and bridge it to WBTC which was on the Ethereum blockchain.

So wondering if there are any services out there or so called bridges that make this possible? I know its very easy to bridge with ETH, ARB, POLY, BNB, ZkSync, etc however is it possible to bridge back and forth with the BTC blockchain?

Bitcoin's base layer lacks support for complex smart contracts and decentralized applications. Therefore, for cross-chain bridges to be possible, you must first tokenize native BTC into a synthetic asset that merely mimics the value of BTC.

As far as I know, you can only get wBTC through a custodial bridging process. You deposit Bitcoin, and in return, someone mints an equivalent amount of wBTC tokens for you. So, basically, it is an exchange.
680  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Paying a miner to personally mine a transaction on: September 08, 2023, 08:16:38 PM
OP, I think your best course of action would be to try a CPFP (Child Pays for Parent) transaction, just as hosseinimr93 recommended.
