744  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Women in the cryptocurrency industry on: December 11, 2017, 10:06:53 PM
Come on, like Seriously we are living in the 21st century both men and women enjoys equal rights everywhere than why not cryptocurrency. Technology should be used by each gender so that it evolve faster and reaches to everyone. Women forms an important part of the ecosystem, Bitcoin helps to sustain anonymity of gender, hence we are unaware of the percentage of men to women. But I strongly believe that they also plays an important role, for example many ICO's generally have men under their development team but you will usually find few girls also their. And it clearly indicates that the opposite gender is also working with us in this industry.

I don't think it's a question of rights, really. But it has been interesting to read over the various opinions here. There are some men who think women have nothing to contribute here, but I'm sure they are in the minority. I personally have not encountered a single problem with entering this space. I had to educate myself and connect with others who are smarter than I am. That's true pretty much everywhere.

I thought this infographic was well done. Here's how much things changed for Bitcoin in just one year, at a glance:

https://dnotesedu.com/2017/12/bitcoin-2017-a-year-in-review/
The trend finally took the reigns in getting bitcoin out to the public in an easy fashion toward investment in ico’s. The boon that is occurring is hugely in part to all of the business opportunities which are on the table sort of speak at the moment. These opportunities won’t last too long at the rate that they are at now. In the future, the only opportunities will be likened to the ones in the normal fiat world where huge corporations and conglomorates gain complete control of every marketplace. This was what happened with fiat when it first became accessible to people in the form of loans and small businesses sprouted. That is now happening with bitcoin. Wait a number of years and watch the same pattern repeat with bitcoin which happened with fiat. It’s exciting now, but when there’s no more room to grow due to complete control by a single entity, then finance will cease to exist.

I've actually wondered how long it's going to take for this to happen. Right now there are lots of opportunities; later the opportunities might be more monopolized as you say. In that light a great strategy to take as an individual is to find a project within this space that is likely to succeed and then become part of it. In that way, you position yourself to be part of what one day could be a very large company, and that can provide interesting career opportunities and other things for yourself and possibly your children. Of course, if you manage to be an investor in such a project that's even better.
746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DNotes 2.0 - Bridging the Gap Between the Centralized and Decentralized World on: December 11, 2017, 06:18:25 PM
Thanks for the informative articles. I especially enjoyed looking over the infographic from DNotesEDU.

Here's a fun one: CryptoKitties is taking the Ethereum network by storm: https://cointelegraph.com/news/cryptokitties-sales-hit-12-million-could-be-ethereums-killer-app-after-all

I looked over the CryptoKitties website and read pretty much everything except the white paper. Although you have to put some real money into it, it actually has a lot of educational value. It's a fun way to learn how the block chain and smart contracts work. I'm actually considering getting my older kids some ether and letting them have at it.

I hope gamification is part of DNotes' plan. It's just fun. And it can be a fun way to learn the ropes too if the game is done right.

My daughter and I started getting into this game this past weekend.

Addy named our first Cryptokitty fluffplum, a portmanteau based on the parents names: cloudyredfluff and CrazyPlum.

https://www.cryptokitties.co/kitty/225886

Yeah, my daughter is going to start playing CryptoKitties soon. I just need to figure out what to trade to get her some startup ether (I won't be selling DNotes for the cause LOL).

I read up on it some last night, and it looks strangely addicting...

This is a good tip indeed, password manager is an extremely useful thing to have. Even for the internet in general. Any other tips you can provide? I want to start making money with cryptocurrency myself, but first need to learn as much as I can. Investing without knowing the basics will probably get me nowhere)

Be sure to read all the tips provided here. I keep adding more once or twice a week.

That's interesting that statistically women do better with day trading than men. Since trading is a bit easier in the cryptospace women could do fantastic in that regard. I know I've made a few good trades that I'm still proud of, though I don't day trade.

With that said, both men and women can easily make the mistake of believing that cryptocurrencies is little more than a trading, speculating game. It's actually a lot more than that. There is a lot of innovation and plenty of opportunities for work and collaboration on some very interesting projects. Many of these projects pay generous bounties. That's a less risky way to accumulate cryptocurrencies, in my opinion. Of course, you can also trade the coins you earn for ones you like better.

It's Finnish amateur coin with about 200 finnish people invested in it. It gives 1000fimk to each verified member every month. Forums are not so active eather. Personally I'm not invested with it and don't see huge potential in it.

Thanks for the update. I'll just keep hanging onto my FIMK for the time being. Maybe it will go somewhere. Maybe it won't. I've picked a few real winners, but for every coin that's a winner, I probably tried out 10 losers. It's par for the course.

Not only woman but also teenagers are involved in bitcoin tremendously, but they like to hide themselves as to get priority for every valuable projects.

That is true. I have encountered a few teenagers in this space. Very intelligent ones. In some cases I assumed they were adult and only found out after some positive interactions how young they were.

XEM will shine, but the wechat cooperation is just a marketing trick.  Grin It is not cooperation, it is only a plug-in developed in wechat, totally different things.

That is a difference. If Wechat is anything like Facebook then anyone can develop an app that integrates with it. It's still a good thing. If the app gets really popular (think Candy Crush), then it could be a boom to NEM.

Speaking of Facebook, anyone developing a wallet that integrates with Facebook?

On another note, can we get a NEM version of this? https://cointelegraph.com/news/cryptokitties-sales-hit-12-million-could-be-ethereums-killer-app-after-all

I'm having a bit of an internal debate as to what should be my next tip. I could flesh out further what to look for in an altcoin that you're considering buying or otherwise acquiring, or I could go more in the direction of how to earn your way into cryptocoins (yes, there are better ways to earn cryptos than faucets!).

I'll eventually cover both topics; it's a matter of in what order. So, those of you following this thread, what would you like to see next?

In the mean time, I have quite the roundup of interesting cryptocurrency related articles for your education and enjoyment.

How normal people get involved in cryptocurrency. This article is a list of the many different ways to catch the crypto-bug. There really is no one size fits all. Everyone's story is going to be unique.

Bitcoin 2017: a year in review. This was quite a year for Bitcoin. This infographic gives you a great snapshot of how much things have changed in just one year.

Will the futures market do to Bitcoin what it did to gold? Today Bitcoin futures enter the scene. In a nutshell, all the Bitcoin naysayers can now put their money where their mouth is and bet against it. How will that affect the price of Bitcoin?

CryptoKitties takes the Ethereum network by storm. You have to put real money into this, but what a fun way to learn about the block chain technology, smart contracts, and what it takes to run a decentralized app. I think if you wanted to play this game, you could count the cost as tuition in your crypto-education journey. Just use some common sense. Allocate a certain amount to this and stick with it, and only put in what you can afford to lose. Most of all, have fun Smiley
754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Devcoin Exchange on: December 11, 2017, 03:22:09 AM
We need an exchange for devcoin, and the more exchanges the better. I suggest a 60 share bounty for the first person(s) to get devcoin on another exchange, 40 shares for the next person on another exchange, and 20 shares for the next. Any objections?

Any news on finding a new exchange for Devcoin since the abrupt departure of Coingather?
..

some updates about coingather which was dvc only exchange and where many millions of dvc were held and btc ltc etc
..
so some possibilities but new exchange needed anyway

Great idea. I'm all for it.

That is a great article. I'm going to share it. Earning one's way into cryptocurrencies is largely how I did it for myself Smiley

Thank you Wiser, it's quite inspirational hearing from people who are self made in cryptocurrency!

Then I could tell lots of stories. It seems to me the most sensible way to go about it. But of course, to pull it off, you have to view the whole thing as an industry, not a speculator's playground or get rich quick scheme.

758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Women in the cryptocurrency industry on: December 09, 2017, 04:27:25 PM
Women are less likely to take risks. This may be a good thing though. Read this journal "Gender Differences in Risk Assessment: Why do Women Take
Fewer Risks than Men?" http://journal.sjdm.org/jdm06016.pdf. If you don't want to, here's the abstract

"Across many real-world domains, men engage in more risky behaviors than do women. To examine some of the
beliefs and preferences that underlie this difference, 657 participants assessed their likelihood of engaging in various
risky activities relating to four different domains (gambling, health, recreation, and social), and reported their perceptions
of (1) probability of negative outcomes, (2) severity of potential negative outcomes, and (3) enjoyment expected from
the risky activities. Women’s greater perceived likelihood of negative outcomes and lesser expectation of enjoyment
partially mediated their lower propensity toward risky choices in gambling, recreation, and health domains. Perceptions
of severity of potential outcomes was a partial mediator in the gambling and health domains. The genders did not differ
in their propensity towards taking social risks. A fifth domain of activities associated with high potential payoffs and
fixed minor costs was also assessed. In contrast to other domains, women reported being more likely to engage in
behaviors in this domain. This gender difference was partially mediated by women’s more optimistic judgments of the
probability of good outcomes and of outcomes being more intensely positive."

I found this interesting. I'm one of those women who are more adventurous and I do tend to take more risks, although not so much on the subjects mentioned. I don't gamble on purpose, for example. But I guess I'm more risk-tolerant when it comes to finances, and for that reason was willing to take a risk on cryptos. I will say, though, that the way I went about it was that I found ways to earn cryptos and then I traded those for other cryptos, etc. I actually put very little of my own fiat money into it (except for one period when I tried out mining but I quit when the electric bills got too high compared to what I was earning).

With that said, since the beginning of the year I have been on the lookout for ways to move some of my crypto wealth into vehicles that are more stable and less risk prone. For example, I started a sa770 life insurance policy with cash proceeds from the crypto side. I wanted to take at least some of what I'd earned in crypto and turn it into something that has a track record of pretty much always being profitable. I also cashed out some cryptos at the beginning of the year and paid off consumer debt. After I did that, it was like this huge relief for my husband and me. And now if everything I own in crypto were to suddenly go down to zero, at least I have the debts paid off. So in that sense, I'm not as risk averse as it would at first seem.

My theory is that there are approaches and techniques that are peculiar to women that work really well in this space. Actually, crypto is one place where women should absolutely not try to act like men. I think we do far better being ourselves because we see things and make connections that don't come naturally to men. If anything, this industry in some ways is biased towards women. It's just that so far relatively few women have figured this out Smiley But more are coming on board every day.

Cool Keep Calm and Always Use CoinMiners! Aricoin (v1) has been recovered and ready in our pool!  Cool
You can use market wallet address for mining!

CoinMiners.Net

How would you get access to the v. 1 wallets, since the website is down? I wound up with 500K v. 1 coins and I sent them to my wallet from Cryptopia, and poof, they never showed up. I was then told a new version had been developed and that v. 1 no longer worked. Someone was supposed to have sent me replacement coins in v. 2 but that never happened either. I wouldn't mind getting hold of my v. 1 coins and dumping them if there are still markets, but I don't know the steps to get at them.

My experience with Aricoin has been a good object lesson as to why you need to actually keep up with the news on any coin you invest in. Although that seems to be changing as more professional people are getting involved, at this stage in the game, we should treat every coin we hold as one that could potentially blow up any day. We need to keep up with its news so we don't miss key information like the coin putting up a new version and the old addresses in your wallets no longer working for deposits.

Some coins I would recommend where the above is less true because the projects are more solid to begin with are NEM, DMD Diamond, and DNotes. All three coins are solid. The DMD and DNotes devs are very communicative on this forum, and as far as professionalism goes, the DNotes team can't be beat. NEM enjoyed quite the run up yesterday, so watch it for a day or two before jumping in.
760  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 09, 2017, 02:24:03 PM
I will believe in everything in crypto world from now on. This is the last thing I was expecting. 200% in a day, after months without any movement. I doubt this had anything with WeChat, you cannot get additional $300 million volume based only on such news, there must be something else.

Maybe all the news from the past year finally got priced in?

It could be that Wechat users got into a buying frenzy on NEM, which seems to have cooled off. However, 43 cents is a nice level to "fall" to.
