741  Other / Off-topic / Re: [WO/Hat-Gang Only - MODERATED] The fucking COVID vax thread (No hat? Fuck off!) on: December 19, 2021, 08:20:33 PM
{Moved from WO to this thread}

@AlcoHoDL

Lucky i am far away from you, people around you seem to get sick and die at a rate well above average from this covid thing.
That begs the question why would that be?

Can it be the exact opposite lifestyle to the Amish or the liking what they dont like, government, public shools, health care system
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1DgWYdukZU

Well, I've had COVID-19 myself and survived it (although it gave me hell). I hope it hasn't caused any permanent health damage. At that time (Jan 2021) vaccines were not available for my age group.

In my social circle (friends, relatives, colleagues, acquaintances), I've had this so far:

Total pool: 500+ people.
COVID-19 deaths (unvaccinated): 10 (those that I can recall).
COVID-19 deaths (vaccinated -- any type): NONE.
Deaths from vaccines alone (no COVID-19 infection): NONE.
Vaccine side-effects: Minimal (gone in 2-3 days) to none.
COVID-19 severe symptoms and/or hospitalized (unvaccinated): Many (myself included), haven't counted.
COVID-19 severe symptoms and/or hospitalized (vaccinated): NONE.
COVID-19 deaths close to me: 2 people, one very old, the second one is the recent one (45 y.o.).

I don't know how significant the above data is, and if my original post made WO so dirty or whatever. This is what it is, take it as you may. I present the data, it may be skewed, incomplete, small sample, and whatever else you can say about it. The reader can draw his/her own conclusions.

About the Amish, I don't know if you're joking or not (no offense, I hope you are serious). I don't really know, maybe their way of life protects them somehow. I haven't studied them much in relation to COVID-19. I did, however, watch a documentary, in which many showed some hypocrisy, in that deep down they appeared to crave the "normal" way of life. I felt they felt oppressed and wanting to "get out" so to speak. So, COVID-19 numbers may be better for them, but not sure in other aspects of life, psychologically, etc.

AlcoHodL, my sincere condoleances....

Another truly tragic COVID-19 casualty. In my family.

45 years old. 6.2 ft tall. Perfectly healthy. Never had any illnesses throughout his life. Was serving in the military (Lieutenant, O-3). As you probably know, military officers regularly undertake medical tests, and his was perfectly clean. Stationed at a weapons research facility, doing research on encrypted network protocols.

Not vaccinated (out of "principle", whatever the FUCK that means). Contracted COVID-19. Fell ill. Within a week he was in ICU. A week later he was dead. DEAD. Got that? DEAD!

A brilliant man, a great military officer and scientist, LOST due to some medieval, dark-ages, Ted Kaczynski-type ideas, circulated for-profit on the internet, claiming that vaccines, medicines, science, technology, are somehow bad for us and we should abstain from them. He leaves behind his wife and two little girls.

Sorry to post this here, but it needs to be heard. If the mods want, they can delete it or move it to Bob's thread. The pain is just too much for me right now. I just had to post this, in the hope that some "anti-vaxxers" out there read it and WAKE THE FUCK UP. I'm not talking about what I've heard, read, or dreamt, this is real life inside my own social circle.

And anyone offended by this post can go fuck themselves, thank you.

My heart goes out to you and your family AlcoHoDL.

Too bad that discussion about a simple medical precaution has become tainted with bullshit politics.

Thanks Julian and Jimbo, I appreciate the comments.

I think there is no hope. I now understand Bob better when he sometimes talks so lowly about that space rock we are all living on.

@AlcoHODL: Really sorry for your loss.

@WO's:
Don't let us forget who the enemy is. It's not the "vaxxers", nor the "anti vaxxers", nor the conspiracists or emotionally numb s-holes.
It's the novel, mutating bitch of virus. It is a challenge that we have to take, it won't go by without the price we have to pay, as humans, as society, as humanity, as a group of BTC believers trying to have fun and debate on the biggest forum thread of bitcointalk.org.
I don't care how but anybody is free to do as he likes, as long as he takes care about himself and others.
Vaccines, masks, pills, distancing... whatever. Just don't try to be a selfish prick.
AlcoHODL's post and response was not about the Covid directly, it was about his tragic loss.
That's why he supposedly posted it here, like many of us did, even if it wasn't related to Covid.

Thanks man, I truly appreciate the comments.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm vaccinated (3 doses) and agree with your sentiment.

What about antiviral treatments for people in your relative's case ? Did he get treated, did he not, maybe because he wasn't on the priority list since relatively young and healthy ?

Here in France where vaccination is not mandatory but almost (you can't do many things if you're not vaccinated), it turns out that many in ICU and dying are vaccinated on paper, until checks are made and it turns out they have fake vaccine passports. Or rather, real ones, where the nurse/doctor didn't make the injection and got cash to provide the proof of vaccination. To the point there is talk of allowing people to admit to this and not get prosecuted in exchange for them getting vaccinated for real.

And in any case if they get ill they should immediately admit they're not vaccinated, that way they will get an antiviral treatment, instead of doctors assuming they will probably be fine.

Thanks for your insights, aesma.

I think something that proved fatal in his case was the fact that he stayed at home for the first few days, and thought he could "wait it out". At some point, the symptoms became so severe that he had to be admitted to the hospital. Maybe if he had sought help a little sooner, things would have been different.

About the antiviral treatments you mentioned, do you mean monoclonal antibodies? If so, I think they are very expensive (of that's what they are telling us) and reserved for those at very high risk (immunosuppressed patients, transplant receivers, etc.). His health was in top shape, based on official military records, he was very fit, motorcycle rider, used his bicycle often, exercising, etc. Actually I still cannot believe this has happened to him... I don't know what else to say...

@AlcoHoDL my condolences.

Thanks Arrie.

If you remember, we exchanged some PMs a while back, so you can relate to where the guy worked and his role in the military. So unfair... Especially when it could have been avoided.

@Torque: don't worry, it will die off in a couple of pages. I see ChartBuddy is already on it. And Bob even made a COVID-19 post literally just hours ago, because he (rightly) felt it fitted here. I don't mind serious, fact-checked, real-life cases of importance on any topic to be posted here for all to see and learn from. In any case, just use your Scroll Wheel and/or Ignore, to sanitize WO to your liking.

Sorry for your loss...but now I'm getting really fucking offended at the Mod of this WO thread that you can post this fucking over the top rant about how you think that a fucking piece of shit vaccine that DOESN'T DO SHIT TO STOP ANYTHING AT ALL and has caused 2.4M adverse drug reactions, heart inflammation, blood clots, and deaths would have somehow MAGICALLY SAVED your family member from dying??  Huh

And be able leave this post here? This rant should be moved to Bob's thread ASAP. End of fucking story. Otherwise I'm calling out the hypocritical bullshit right here and now.  Angry

It is my firm and unequivocal belief that if the guy was vaccinated (with any type of COVID-19 vaccine), he would now be alive and fully recovered.

It is not magic. It is science.

If my post can save someone out there, let it stay here for all to see. This is not some discussion about politics over coffee and biscuits. This is real life, with real people I personally knew, and hence can truly verify the facts. I would certainly share a similar story about a vaccinated relative dying, but I have none.

As for being hypocritical, the only thing I can do is give you my word that I'm not, but this is worth nothing on the interwebs, and, sadly, in WO too, it seems.

For those who replied, or will reply, to my above post, I don't want to get into an argument or start this type of conversation. You are free to have your own opinion about the subject, and I won't try to change it any more than my post itself can do.

The purpose of my post was to tell my personal story, and let the reader draw his/her own conclusions. I felt that I had to post it. Do with it as you may.

There's another full moon tomorrow (or the 19th in the morning depending on where you live) and while this isn't trading advice, it looks as though there might just be something to all this talk of bitcoin "mooning" after all.  A little hopium chart for your perusal:

Just for comparison, here's the exact same chart, but with the positions of the full-moon / new-moon icons flipped on the vertical axis. Note that the horizontal locations of the icons are still correct (i.e., the icons still represent the correct definitions for full moon / new moon).

751  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 17, 2021, 09:17:06 PM

I've said this before, and I'll say it again because it's so important, yet few realise it:

Look at the above polar graph. A full circle is 4 years, and the spirals never cross. This means that every single person who ever invested in Bitcoin, at any time since its birth in 2009, and waited for at least 4 years, ended up in profit. How much profit? The average 4-year profit is about one order of magnitude (10x) -- the average distance of adjacent spirals is 10x price increase. The longer (more years) you HoDL, the better -- the spirals always grow larger.

tl;dr: Forget "short-term". Bitcoin is for long-term, virtually guaranteed profits. Buy whenever you can, HoDL, wait for at least 4 years and enjoy profits that no bank or stonk can ever give you. Few realise this, most just go into a buy-sell oscillation until their coins are snatched by the smart guys in the room.

Here is my 2c about that "purple" posts and shooting those who went past them.
In short, it is idiotic, imho.

Your idiot opinion has been noted.

... exquisite response to the triggerred liberal

... but pretty sure your purple-marked posts need to be some colour other than purple for the bottom 3-5 feet

... I can bring over a tin of black paint and a brush and we'll get to work painting your black bottoms? .... Or is it bottoms black?

Surely the rest of the post would be blue, green, yellow, orange, red for maximum F.U. factor?

I'd leave a good length of each post unpainted (bare metal), for the occasional bareback rusty pipe treatment.

If you are a whole coiner or aspiring to be one soon just think of this:

The last Bitcoin will take 40 years to mine!

 Shocked

OK. This is interesting.

I did a quick calculation:

Going backwards from the last block, 1,808,390 blocks are needed to make 1 BTC (1.0000022 BTC to be exact).

1,808,390 / 6 (blocks per hour) / 24 (hours per day) / 365.25 (days per year) = 34.4 years (approx.) to mine the last BTC.

I could be wrong in my calculation above, but 34.4 years is still a very long time!

tl;dr: HoDL your corn, it will soon be the rarest monetary unit in the universe!

About these purple "no trespassing" markings, can't this be used by someone to get away with murder? You drag someone inside the fence, you shoot him dead, and then claim he was trespassing and did not respond to verbal warnings and warning shots. How would the authorities in the relevant USA territories deal with this?

In contrast to the above, in many (most?) countries in the world, you will be put to prison if you shoot a burglar when he is inside your house, even if you legally carry a weapon. Even more surprising is the fact that, in the UK, police officers are not normally allowed to carry firearms (IIRC -- UK WOers, please confirm if that's the case).

Such down,
So dip,
Pray to Karhu and weep.

I'm praying that my lowest buy order at $44.500 gets filled today.
All the higher ones were already hit, catching the knife  Grin

Yeah... I normally would not buy more Bitcoin, as I feel I have enough (can that really be said?), but that dip is far too tasty to resist.

and let the purple posts every 100 ft serve as the traditional Texas warning to officially "Fuck around and find out"

I find that you are doing purple fence posts to be so delightfully appropriate.  Your color... and one the locals most likely know to respect.  I guess the tradition goes back.

My moms side of the family were country folk.  I used to visit my grandfather in rural NC and we would take a couple cane poles for fishing.  We fished in a creek on his property, but that was on the edge of his neighbors property.  My grandfather, a man of few words pointed out a post with a purple top and asked me if I knew what it meant.  Nope, I said.  And he told me, it's a friendly way to warn people "if you go on that land they'll shoot ya" (the way my grandfather said it was more like "shoochee" lol).

Is this a US thing or a local Texas thing, I have never heard of it before.

I don;t think it's even the whole US.  I think it is a rural south thing.  From Virginia to Texas basically.  Maybe it goes further west.  But it is many decades old, and was a traditional thing before I think it ever ended up an actual ordinance or law, which it is now.  As in it is legally recognized as a no-trespassing signal now.  You can even see cans of paint sold specifically for the purpose.  It is often a purple not far from Bob's own trademark pink-urple color.

I like this kind of tradition, gives the region some character. I just hope the land owners fire some warning shots and let uninformed trespassers know what it means before shooting at them...
