Are you ready, Bitcoin bears?

1742  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 22, 2020, 07:56:46 PM
Earlier today I left home to visit my cousin and two nieces for BBQ while Bitcoin was dumping, just came back home and Bitcoin is where it was yesterday.

"Bitcoin is a bubble", they said...  Grin

I've been thinking about this for a long time, the list of hats on the left side of wohats should be divided, I think I'm going to make two lists.

List 1
- WO Hats

List 2
- Forum Hats

Also, some of us have more than one hat. I have 2. Others have 3+. May be worth putting them all on display inside the user's hat page. This already happens for some of us (e.g., xhomerx10's page shows two hats), but not for others (e.g., mine, or The Dude's).

No biggie, but why not include ALL hats in existence? They may become collector's items someday...

Theorem — Given enough time, the statements "buying high" and "selling high" are false.

Proof — It directly follows from the Bitcoin White Paper that, given enough time, any act of buying BTC is "buying low". Equivalently, any act of selling BTC is "selling low".

CorollaryHoDL or buy BTC when you can, only sell BTC when you absolutely must.

Few understand this.

*drying off with $8,000 towel.*

That's EPIC!

In my case, I'm currently using a $2000 Trezor...

At least we haven't been eating $90M pizzas (yet)!

I have a couple $1,300 sandwiches

This is the life of the new wealthy elite. That's us!

@^^^ Easy. Just buy a PATA-to-USB adapter. They come complete with PSU, and should cost no more than $10. Warning: don't purchase with BTC!

And, yes, it would make a great story.

@friends1980 & all:

I've said it before. I believe proudhon is a Bitcoin HoDLer, and a much bigger HoDLer than the average WOer. He's just making fun of all of us here. FWIW, I like him, and r0ach too. They add a nice ingredient to that special WO sauce...

BTW, I think the weird singing animal in proudhon's avatar is a Llama! Ha!

Ultimately, the challenge began in the beginning of September...

The next few days to close this week's candle, and then the following week are critical.tm

Nice analysis Jay, thanks.

I had forgotten of this! Nice one!

But 2013? So long ago? I thought he was more recent.

Registration: 2011. Wish I had started then...

edit: how to integrate a youtube video here?

LOL

It is being implemented in the forum software upgrade. Just need to be patient.

Yeah, I used to hate the forum engine. Sucked balls (and still sucks TBH). That was the reason I postponed registering for so long. But I've grown to like the simplicity of it. Clean, fast, and with the help of browser zoom and Dark Reader, perfectly readable.

Wish some solution existed for easy mobile phone browsing/posting...

I need to know what animal this is:

Bull? No.
Bear? Nope.
Pony & giraffe crossbreed? Could be.

Is it domestic?
And...can it really sing?

1 month rental apartment 1 bedroom junior size $30000

And the largest single dice bet was 7k BTC... back in 2013. I saw it live. On the dice site itself (it had a chat room too.)

Man, that's something!

bought a $900K miner from HashFast Inc. back in 2013.  Roll Eyes

Damn! Nearly $1M!

I visited a friend yesterday and saw the bike that I had gifted him. a nice $180k bicycle. not sure if he really knows what it means to ride germanys most expensive bike.

Awesome!

Maybe we should make a list of things we bought with BTC and how much they now cost... What's sad is that most of those things are not worth any more now than they did when we bought them. So, we effectively gave something which was (still is, and very likely will be) hugely appreciating in value, to obtain something that has kept (and most likely lost) its value.

Not saying we should indefinitely HoDL. But wasting those precious sats when we can have what we want with our fiat income? Not so sure it's a wise move...

tl;dr: HoDL (for now). Don't waste BTC for a cup of coffee. It's meant for BIGGER things!

BTW (OT), I'm a big fan of Dark Mode, and have been using Dark Reader for sometime, in WO and in many other sites. Actually discovered it from a post here in WO. I read (here in WO too) that this may be a security threat due to leaking site data, etc. Just visited Dark Reader's official site, and noticed that it's an open-source project, and very highly respected, which put my mind at rest somewhat...

What do you guys think? Would you consider Dark Reader a security threat. Any known cases?

Or should we start using Tor on a Linux Live DVD for all things Bitcoin?

Bitcoin's ever rising value makes us reconsider certain approaches to the way we do things...

I suppose this is fairly paranoid.  But I have come to believe that there will ALWAYS be something about my internet connected computers and phones that is a security threat.  I have basically given up on keeping these things secure.  Therefore hardware wallets and disconnected old laptops running Tails.  That said... I am an IT person.  The latter is not a trivial undertaking to do correctly.  And i figure many here could handle it... but we are elite in that regard.

Security and UX is STILL bitcoin's #1 and other #1 Achilles heel.

I suppose so... I also never keep coins on hot wallets. Always on h/w wallets, with seeds backed up on non-electronic media, except a wallet on my phone in which there's strictly only LFC's game prize coins (then worth $50, currently worth more than $100). I live to see the day when that wallet warns me that it's dangerous to carry so much money on my phone!  Wink

My concern was more OPSEC-related. Problem is, if we take this to the extreme, we lose convenience and end up using Tor + Tails. Will risk using Firefox + Dark Reader for WO activities for now, it looks so much better... Hope I won't ever get the $5 wrench treatment!

What I like about this month's big pump is that the few dumps that attempted to destroy it were quickly eaten out. This shows a strong upward momentum, which I hope will soon take us to ATH and beyond.

It's dumping again as I type this... Let's see... Will the above hold true?

In any case, I would still HoDL and wait.

And back up she goes...

That's Bitcoin. Never ceases to amaze us!

I am happy I sold 2 pieces

1 piece  at 17900 and 1 piece at 18200

Not a bad move, provided you either buy back lower, or use the money to make an immediate and necessary purchase. In any other case, I think you will end up at a loss. Not criticizing your move, it's the psychological aspect of it too.

Never thought about it like that.

Wow. Just WOW!

Of course, this applies to HoDLers only. Day traders or those who sold are a different story.
1759  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 17, 2020, 03:09:47 PM
Imagine those who sold at $4k and never bought back... A few months later, we are now 430% of that value... Man, that's got to hurt.

If anything, Bitcoin has taught me the following:

1. Math & science are always right. Use them to understand what you invest on.
2. Be patient. Consider that banks give you 0.5% per year interest (soon negative).
3. When in doubt, zoom out and refer to (1).
4. The earth may seem flat when you're on it, but it's really spherical. Apply (3).
5. A dip only delays the inevitable rise. Don't be scared of it. BTFD!
6. Day trading is used to transfer coins from the impatient to the patient (2).
7. Warren Buffett was right when he said that you should make money when you sleep.
8. HoDLing is the best strategy to achieve (7).
9. A green dildo is better than a rusty pipe (or mind). #nohomo

HoDL.
