Nice photo, OutOfMemory!

Maybe we could introduce "daily snaps" and post our favorite photos of landscapes, nature, birds (or the flying and the other kind), etc.

But there are OPSEC issues, so I guess it can't happen...

So, come on, Bitcoin, give use a PUMP for SWANS! White or brown, I don't care. Green would be nice, and they'd better be pointing upwards.

... this "have fun staying poor" meme is an arrogant dick kind of thing to say too. Some people can be rich without a cent ... or a satoshi.

It depends on whom you're saying it to, and how they have previously responded to your advice. I'm an extremely polite person, and would rarely say anything offensive to anyone, even if they deserved it. But I can tell you that the few I've said this phrase to, in relation to my Bitcoin comments and advice, fully deserved it.

Risking my OPSEC, but here goes...

Friday @ work. On our break, chatting with colleagues. At one point, one of them says to me, in front of everyone: "you should be careful, protect yourself, now that you're rich." I just ignored the comment. A few seconds later, another colleague stands up, and says this loudly to everyone. "You are all fucking stupid! The guy told us all to buy Bitcoin in 2017, and we made fun of him. We laughed at him. We ignored his advice. Now, go back to your desks. You are all stupid, and I am stupid too."

Man, that was a satisfying comment. It was all true. I told them all about Bitcoin, and they did exactly what the guy said. And now they're all getting close to me and indirectly asking me for advice. I could have said to all of them "have fun staying poor". I didn't, although they fully deserve it. So, this phrase has its place, it all depends on the circumstances.

A fool is not one who doesn't know, but one who knows and does not act.

Why are Fish higher ranking higher than an Octopus?

I was wondering the exact same thing. To me, an octopus should be ranked higher than a fish...

Interesting Raoul Pal interview with Ari Paul.

Ari was another early "Bitcoin dismisser" who turned into a Bitcoin proponent.

Aren't they all?

New development and innovation will be added to the existing Bitcoin network backbone as 2nd-layer add-ons (LN is one such example and there are, and will be, others). Bitcoin is currently a huge decentralized network, the size of which the world has never seen before. It is by far the fastest computational entity currently in existence on earth. This achievement is not easy to replicate. Apart from its vast size, it possesses features no other network of its kind possesses. Bitcoin is decentralized, trustless, immutable, borderless, scalable, super-hardened, super-robust, deflationary, scarce, not owned by any specific entity. It's all of the above and more. All at the same time. These are not blockchain properties, they are Bitcoin properties.

Just as new, innovative internet technologies are added on top of the tried, tested and robust TCP/IP layer, so will new, innovative technologies be added on top of the Bitcoin network backbone. There's no need to reinvent the wheel when the wheel is the optimal strategy. There are 100s of car brands, but their products all use wheels, because anything else is sub-optimal. Bitcoin is the "wheel" of the digital monetary revolution, and it will be used for decades to come. We, as Bitcoin HoDLers, are now tapping on the fundamental building block of a monetary instrument that will shake the foundations of the world's financial and wealth infrastructure. The avalanche has started, it's getting bigger, and it's unstoppable.

If anyone thinks an altcoin can easily replace all of the above, he is deluded. It's just a matter of time. You can either understand the tech, realise its potential and embrace it, or wait until you are forced to do so. It's up to you.

There's generally no real development in the vast majority of shitcoins. Only scammers who are looking for opportunities to get rich by tricking others into giving their fiat to buy their shitcoins. This has happened far too many times to ignore, and is still happening. You don't need to know much, just visit their websites and read the info in there. With just a little bit of experience and intuition, you'll be able to see through them.

Good luck to all who buy shitcoins "because they're cheaper than Bitcoin"...

Who are you guys? Little Peter Schiffs?
Go stack some sats, you fools!

So it's that distrust into bitcoin at core. A beginner's mistake. I feel bad for them, really...

Fresh meme material for 2 years later...

I've watched a few videos on youtube where Michael Saylor was a guest, each one about an hour long. He makes a lot of sense and explains in plain english what it means to him.

Considering he started learning it all just last year, in 2020, he's not bad at all. Dude is MIT graduate I think. Rocket Scientist or something.

it is encouraging to see how fast an open, smart mind can go down the bitcoin rabbit hole.
now compare that to those who should professionally be open minded in such a way that they could at least comprehend bitcoin and write about it to their readers: the journalists.

them failing miserably for almost a decade.  Tongue

Correction, he knew about bitcoin in 2013, but turned around in 2020 and is now our favorite CEO whale.

Yup. Here's a tweet he posted in Dec 19, 2013:

https://twitter.com/michael_saylor/status/413478389329428480

It's good that he finally saw sense, albeit 7 years later. Just imagine the profits he could have made, if he was smart enough to buy in 2013 (or 2014, or 2015, or...).

My charts with random lines help me to see previous trends and potential future trends.

That's right. Charts with random lines are the best, because the chances of getting it right is maximized by the randomness. If you try to apply any TA on them, the probability of getting it right quickly diminishes to zero.

tl;dr: Roll a dice.

I would prefer to do it myself, and the final key I simply put it encrypted in the cloud OR buried and hidden.

People will bark at you with the "encrypted in the cloud" idea.  Although I think people who REALLY understand what they are doing can do this.  And one other issue with that is, how do you store the password?  It's really the same problem.  If it is an easy enough password to remember?  Then might not be as secure as you would hope.

With enough data in the cloud, average grade encryption, even with a low security password, is IMO a good option when you combine it with some steganography. Let them steal all your data from the cloud and sift all mp3, jpgs, videos etc. in search for the encrypted bit they need!

I used to be paranoid about security, to the point of devising intricate methods of encrypting my recovery seed by designing my own complex algorithms that used information from various sources (files, words from books, etc.) that only I knew how to combine, in order to decrypt the data and get to my recovery seed. It worked for a while, until one time I tried to verify my encrypted backup, only to discover that I had nearly forgotten the decryption procedure. Fortunately, I was finally able to remember it. Even if I could not, I still had my Trezor, so I could just transfer my coins to a new wallet with a fresh, known recovery seed. But I finally remembered the decryption steps, and was able to get to the plain-text version of my recovery seed, thus avoiding transferring my coins to a new wallet.

This has taught me to apply the KISS principle. Use strong encryption, but keep it simple enough to always remember the decryption procedure. Use standardized methods (BIP39, etc.). Don't overdo it, to the point of later forgetting how it's done, because you may lock yourself out of your coins, and that's 100 times worse than a mindrust event.

Any fixed amount can be written off as "cost of doing business", given a large enough volume of business.

The penalties for such violations MUST be expressed in units of yearly revenue. It's the only language corporations will understand; it's the only way to keep them on their toes.

In a documentary I watched around 20 years ago, it was mentioned that the cost of human life in an aviation accident was valued at $250,000 per person. So, it was said that aviation companies would do a budget analysis of the cost of fixing the technical problem vs. the lives lost because of it, and the cheapest course of action would be chosen. Not sure how relevant this is today.

I think there ought to be strict technical requirements for the design specifications of such automatic control systems in aircraft. Having only one sensor as the input to a system capable of automatically taking over the controls of an aircraft should be an instant red flag. I'm a control engineer, and routinely include redundancy in my designs, so that the chances of a critical failure are minimized. Even in the event that a failure does occur, there should be systems in place that disable the failed units and smoothly return control to the pilot.

I read Hueristic's article and was surprised that such a poor design of the MCAS system was given the green light. Flight tests are not sufficient, there should have been strict inspections at the design level. The fact that a system passes a set of flight tests just means it works in the conditions it was subjected to, not in every possible situation. Experienced engineers should have inspected the design and should have rejected it straight away when they saw that only one sensor was being used. Such a system will probably pass all flight tests with ease, but it's still a failed design.

Similar guidelines exist in weapon systems design. There may be complicated electronics that solve the fire-control system problem, but the firing command is usually sent to the weapon "outside the loop", by means of mechanical switches that simply short-circuit two wires. It may sound simple, even primitive, but it is very robust and gives total and exclusive control to the weapon system operator, no computer is allowed to fire the weapon on its own.

Guys ('n' gal), this is fine.

We are virtually pinned to $36k for a while now. Yes, it's boring. Yes, we want higher. But, just pause for a moment, and think. $36k. This is a stellar value. Remember that we were at $16k not too long ago. This is a 125% increase in two (2) months! Have we become too greedy?

The fact that the price holds strong above $30k should make us all ecstatic. Sure, we all liked it when it reached $40k+, but there's no need to rush it. GTCTTWW. Patience and HoDLing will reward us all very soon. We've waited patiently for 3 years, what's another 6 or 12 months?

Not selling a single sat.
May even buy some sats (already regretting that I did not, when we were at $16k).

HoDL.

Look at my post in another thread.
I don't think we ever had a start to a year as good as this year

Yes, exactly. It's been great so far. Here in Euro-land, seeing values of 30,000+ € is just awesome. A long time ago I posted that 10,000 € would change my life, and now we're 3 times that! Of course, as price rises, our goals, desires and priorities may change accordingly, i.e., "moon" is really an adaptive term that could mean $10k, then change to $100k and even reach $1M and beyond. As things stand now, I would consider a value of $100k as my personal "moon", as I guess is the case for many of us. I believe the chances of reaching that value in 2021 are certainly higher than 50%, I'd say more like 70-80% (SOMA guess). Knowing what I know now about Bitcoin, and having survived through the 2017-2020 winter, I'd say that anything is possible, and the best is yet to come.

HoDL strong, brothers.

buying 0.007 BTC ($250) seems a bit strange...

I'm a gay dude sent here from Planet Anus, to make everyone on Planet Earth homosexual, ushering in the Age of Aquarius.

How DARE YOU talk to me about strange.

If I had your corn I wouldn't mind being a degerate, filthy, COVID-infected gay (can I be Bi?), rusty pipe included. Yes, I admit it, I'm a BTC whore, I'd do anything for corn.

Lots of deja vu doing this stuff. Don't like hitting targets more than 3x

Bob, it's good that you're stacking sats, actually I should be doing the same, it's just that I can't be bothered with the whole process of wiring the fiat and waiting for it to arrive at the exchange, etc., etc.

I wonder though. With so many coins you have (in the big hundreds or more, I'm sure), what's the point of buying $250 worth of BTC? Is this just for fun/entertainment purposes? Because, even when Bitcoin goes 10x (and it will), your $250 (or $1250) will become $2500 ($12,500). Just peanuts compared to the coins you have.

Not trying to criticize you or anything, just to get your point of view. Why not buy $100,000 (or more) worth of BTC straight away right now? I believe you must have that kind of fiat. That would be a move that would fit your stash and wealth level. $250 is just dust for you, isn't it?

On the other hand, "every little helps", and maybe we should all be doing that, no matter how large or small the amount. In fact, your post is seriously tempting me to wire a few $$$$ to buy more corn...

Sorry for getting a little personal, just being curious...

You're underestimating Bawb... or not following closely enough. He's been DCAing for quite a time already and don't let these tiny $250 buys confuse you. For example $250 x10 is $2500 and according to your calculations above if (when) BTC goes 10x $2500 will be $25000 which is not quite peanuts anymore. I wasn't counting but I guess Bawb bought much more than $250 x10 this time.  Cool

Yes, I see your point, but it's all relative. When his $250 x10 = $2500 becomes $25,000, his stash could be worth several hundred million dollars. What's  $25,000 compared to that?

In any case, I do believe we should convert any spare fiat we have to BTC, however small it may be. It's just that, when one has hundreds or thousands of BTC, buying 0.007 BTC ($250) seems a bit strange...
