Hey AlcoHoDL, recovering well I hope?

Yes, feeling better than ever!

Doctor said I should stay at home and wait it out. I did, and a couple of days later, ALL symptoms are completely gone, no headache, no fever (exactly 36.6 degC / 98 degF, without taking any pills), no diarrhea, no coughing (never had this), full strength, feeling absolutely great. Not taking any medication at all, as I wasn't taking any before it all started. Oximeter reading is between 98% and 99%.

I don't know if I'm going to die tomorrow or not, but today I feel great and I'm enjoying myself. Will keep an eye on it, of course, but my body tells me it's over for good. This is serious stuff, but I guess if the body is in good condition and there are no underlying illnesses, it can be taken care of by the body itself.

Bitcoin price is soaring and it's great to be back with the WO gang!

Onwards & upwards!

HoDL.

Photography is awesome for when you get older or not suited to serious exercise.  I know people in their mid 80s that take amazing landscape photos.

Also local wildlife photography can help advance science if you get the right niche for rare birds / critters in your area

My dad was heavily into photography. Landscape, supercars and these soft filtered 70's portraits. I grew into it, automatically.
Got my first Canon AE-1 from him at the age of 12, i also have two inherited lenses here, which i use occasionally. A Tamron push-pull zoom and a fixed focal length 24mm f2 lens. Both can't keep up with modern sensor resolutions too well, though.
Stepping into digital photography at 2 megapixels from 35mm film was awesome.
At the time you can shoot landscapes like this a lot:

I'm into photography too. This hobby can be expensive (esp. the lenses), but Bitcoin can take care of that. I kept postponing upgrading my aging equipment (Canon gear, but very old—body is a 20D, still works fine), but after my COVID-19 situation, there's going to be a serious reshuffling of my priority list. If/when this shit clears away, the first thing I'm going to do is buy a nice mirrorless body with a couple of good lenses. Below is one candidate (APS-C sensor, but I like the overall camera design), and also looking at the Sony Alpha mirrorless series (full-frame sensor).

FUJIFILM X-T4 Mirrorless Digital Camera

Enjoy it, it's an immensely rewarding experience.

I have the diarrhea unfortunately.  Sad

Apologies in advance for the low-tier pun of you suffering through a shitty deal.

Sincere hopes you start feeling better imminently, and bounce back from this at full strength.

Thanks Bob, I hope so...

Thx man.

I have the diarrhea unfortunately.  Sad
Smelling OK.
No blisters in mouth.
Do not feel anything bad when fully inhaled, and can keep it for a long time.

Will keep an eye on it.

You have fever, headache and diarrhea.
Have you talked to any doctor yet?

If you have a qualified doctor in the family then reach out to them, give them a call and share them the symptoms. They may give you some better suggestion than anyone else us here or someone who are not qualified. If no doctor in the family then see a doctor near to you.

I hope it's not anything to be worried about but it's better to consult with a qualified person and follow their suggestion.

Will get tested to confirm it first. The plan is to do it tomorrow. Pretty sure it's going to be positive...

Alternating wildly between feeling "OK" and having a fever and headache. No coughing, no shortness of breath. Not yet anyway. Hopefully never.
Hey brother. You are fine. This might be normal virus fever with headache. Don't worry too much.

Careful about things like
Can not smell
Having diarrhea
Blisters in the mouth

Do breathing exercises, when inhale notice if you feel any pain in the chest. Obviously always have the oximeter. 97/98 is fine but regular person should have 99+

I am not a doctor but I am saying all these from experience being with covid patients.

I hope you get well soon brother.

Thx man.

I'm strongly considering quitting my job, and doing something, anything else while living off crypto for the foreseeable future. This is the first day of work after a 2 week break, and instead of being "refreshed" and ready to work, all I can think is the break wasn't nearly long enough. Despite finding the work deeply unfulfilling, my job is stable and pays pretty well (a quick Google search says I'm in the top 97% within my state).

Probably the biggest thing holding me back is losing the structure that comes with the daily grind. I'm not completely confident I have the necessary self-discipline to create my own structure over the long-term, and while there are a lot of things I want to do (contribute to open source crypto software, write a novel, go back to school, etc), there's the non-zero chance I end up wandering aimlessly without purpose until wasting away.

Has anyone else gone through this or a similar thought process? This might be the only place (that I know of) with people who could relate.

For my part, i'm unemployed since 2011 now, mainly because of fatigue, weak immune system and memory problems.
Eight years before that i ran a home/small business in the IT industry. I got good health and social insurance.
(EDIT: On about a third of what i used to earn, but it's enough)

So now, back to your question: You have to have some "mission", a hobby and take the times just as they come. I had to learn to never feel bored (through meditation).
You have to be immune to people's talks, because not many can get along with somebody making a living of not working. In my case i undergo a lot of neurologic therapy, and i'm restored to some extent, at least in terms of fitness and immune system strength. Your "aim" may be to discover everything you didn't know about yourself yet.

And there's that golden tip i got once...
Go into absolute darkness and silence (some people used a coffin), relax without motion, just shut your mind down to a point where you imagine "this is it. i'm dead. This was my life..." Pretend to be dead. Take your time, i'm serious, and then you will start remembering what you did, all your experiences, your life and, most important, what you didn't do, what you regret you did, which dreams you didn't work on to realise them....
If you do this right (authentic) you will know what you want to do with your life. Trust me. It's being taught at seminars in Germany.

Remeber: You need to look at your past life as if you're dead already. It's not important how you do it, it's only important that you actually do it.

+1 WOsMerit.

@AlcoHoDL

Hodl tight man. If you haven't seen bad symptoms yet, you likely won't. When it's bad, it's usually immediately bad. This pattern of yours hit two of my friends (one in her early 40s, the other in his late 50s). Both were out of it in just over one week, plus of course some time to get back to full baseline.

EDIT - No muscle/joint pain? That was the worst of the "light" symptoms apart from head splitting headaches. My older friend, a former athlete, said he'd never felt anything like that muscle pain, even in post-traumatic conditions.

Thx man, I appreciate the post.

Fortunately, no bad symptoms in the sense that I must be admitted to hospital. Just fever swings and diarrhea. In fact, when I take paracetamol (for the fever) I feel pretty good. I can feel I'm sick, but I can still enjoy things. No coughs, no shortness of breath, no muscle pain, nothing like that. If it completes its cycle in a week, that would be great!

In my 40s, quite fit, exercising every day, not overweight. Hopefully this will help kill it faster.

Hey WO gang!

Thanks so much for your replies, I've read and appreciate every single one of them!

On the PC now, at last. WO is a pain to browse from the screen of a phone, let alone posting, quoting, etc. Should get a good tablet. iPad Air maybe? Why not, we're rich now, aren't we?

Still alive, confined at home monitoring myself. This has got to be the weirdest illness I've ever experienced in my entire life. Alternating wildly between feeling "OK" and having a fever and headache. No coughing, no shortness of breath. Not yet anyway. Hopefully never.

Got an oximeter as suggested. Readings look good (alternating between 97% and 98%). I read that 94% is the warning threshold, so all good. I'm quite fit, exercising regularly, not taking any medication, etc. This should help me win this fight.

On topic. I see we had a correction for ants, which is already bouncing back up and has entered the typical decaying oscillatory response. Based on what I've seen so far, I'd say it will either go sideways for a little while and then shoot up, or it will shoot up straight away. We'll see. I'm happy either way. Shouldn't be too greedy. Once upon a time I was aiming for 10k € and we're now at 25k+ €...

I read the post with the news about Bitcoin "losing steam" by dipping 10%. Really? Don't they know nuttin'? Are they embittered nocoiners? Paid shills? Rhetoric questions... Funny thing is that, as already noted, the news item hasn't aged so well, and very soon I see some nice memes being posted based on this.

Not selling a sat until I need to. No targets. Will sell when I need to. And as much as I need to. Will not fill the bank with fiat. Already have some there and they are now worth less than when they were put there.

Onwards & upwards.

yeah it is weird . I was sick with it dec 31 2019 to jan 25 2020. fever on and off. my body felt black and blue and beaten on.

I was 63 when I caught it.
I have asthma
I have diabetes

And I did better with it then my wife. 91-93 on the o2 meter.  fever spiked hard one time 103 for 3 hours. with uncontrollable shakes. My skin felt hot and sweaty and my insides felt cold. Wrapped myself in 3 blankets and sweated that mofo out.

Once that one really hot shaking stopped fever was never over 99 and I was done with it.

For me this was not as bad as the h1n1 flu I had in 2009.

My wife on the other hand really has suffered long term lung damage which is just getting better after 1 year and 1 week since first getting it.

Good luck fighting this mofo bro.

Yes, very similar to my case. I haven't taken paracetamol for one day, no fever, all good. I try to sleep without taking any paracetamol, only to be woken up in the middle of the night shivering from a rising fever. Then I take paracetamol and a couple of hours later I'm woken up again, all sweating (pyjamas literally dripping) from the falling fever. Nasty mofo!

Mine started on Dec 31 2020. So I'm looking at enduring this for the most part of January. OK, good to know what to expect. I'm in my 40s, so hopefully it will take a bit less time to clear out. I just hope it does clear out, and doesn't clear me out...  Shocked

Thanks man, and all WOers.

Still alive, thanks so much to everyone for your replies and merits. Good advices given that will help me get through this.

You don't fully realise the seriousness of COVID-19 until you get it. I still don't actually know if what I have is COVID-19, but symptoms point to that direction... Should do a test to find out. Until now I'm confined at home with zero contact with others.

Now on day 4 from onset of symptoms. By day 5-6, and if things get serious, I should be getting shortness of breath, at which point I should be admitted to hospital. If this does not happen, then it may be possible to fight this at home on my own. I hope so.

Sounds like covid. Hate to say this, but I believe in facing reality: Make sure someone has access to your coins. Reason being I have had two people in December die of COVID. Both felt terrible, went to hospital, felt much better in 2 days, talked to me on the phone about how it really sucked, it wasn't the flu and holy fuck what a nightmare including the shits. The next morning both were dead. They go fast after getting "better".

Please take care of yourself and watch this carefully. I hate seeing people die of this completely preventable shit.

I appreciate the post, although it's scary as hell. As I said, you don't fully appreciate the seriousness of the situation until it happens to you. My advice to all is to not get close to people not wearing masks or wearing them improperly. If the situation is such that there is pressure on you to talk or interact with them, just say NO. You may be wearing your mask and everything (as I was), but the issue is not you, it's the ones you come in contact with! So, stay SAFE, take it VERY seriously, and REFUSE to get close to those without proper protection.

On topic, I see we passed the 27k € ($34k) mark, which is just AWESOME! I saw one big but very brief dip, which was quickly absorbed by the buying pressure. It seems that any corrections (big or small) are quickly counteracted by pumps that bring the price back to its "slow" upward course. If we keep going like this, $100k should easily be reached in 2021. Actually, predictions talk about as high as $400k, but for me $100k as a correction-stabilized price for 2021 is more than satisfactory. I'm sure many of us WOers' lives will change when this happens.

Onwards & upwards!

Hey WOers!

Have been trying to follow WO in these great times. Price is soaring, what a wonderful start of the year. We all deserve it, as our patience, perseverance and belief, are now being rewarded. 2021 should be a great year for Bitcoin, and we'll be here to celebrate it. No memes, no Carolinas, no CCMF. That should tell us something. Price is just too low for those. Perhaps at $50k or $100k...

The year started badly for me, I've been in bed for the last couple of days. High fever (up to 40 degC), diarrhea, it's fucking torture... Could be a cold, a flu, or COVID-19, I don't know. What I do know, is that I had to go to different places the last couple of weeks and most people I met either did not wear masks properly, or not at all. FUCKS! Measured my fever just now, it's 38 degC. It could mean it's subsiding. I hope so.

Lots of merit-worthy posts out there, you guys are awesome, my phone is next to my bed, trying to catch up. No merits to pass on, but that's no problem I see many of you have taken care of that.

Going back to bed, and hopefully whatever bug or virus I have will clear away soon.

Take care all.

BTW, not selling a fucking sat!

Someone's dream became true, not only true but it's now 3x true 🥳

Quote from: Almost 3 and 1/2 years ago
What will change my life is when 1 BTC > $10000. Then I will be gaining hundreds of thousands of $ (€ in my case). At that point (if we ever get there -- and I hope and believe we will), I will sell some (but not all) of my 15 BTC, enjoy my earnings, and still be in the Bitcoin rocket on its way to the moon. I do believe and speculate that this will happen and I expect this to take no longer than 10 years.

I actually feel bad for mindrust. I liked (still like?) the guy. It's so unfortunate that he chickened out. Never expected it. I guess he wasn't a hardened HoDLer like the typical WOer, and he never really believed in Bitcoin. It's impossible to do what he did, if you really believe in Bitcoin's potential and understand how it works. I guess he never did.

Sad. If I was him, I'd go crazy... It's tough for the mind (rusty or not) to take this...

I sincerely hope he's fine.

I can't get enough of it. I just can't help but stand in awe of this amazing achievement. Just imagine what they'll be able to do in 10, 20 years.

they will be soldiers and cops. one of those enough to control a small town. imagine the battles. imagine the riots. scary as shit.

As a scientist and engineer, I stand rapt in awe of the achievement. I do not judge its uses. It could be used for good or bad things. It's the humans who are at fault if they decide to use it for bad things. And they probably will. As humans do with everything.

Seriously, if you are counting on a single cheap NAS it's better to give your data to Bowsette....

She'll take care of it.

I wouldn't mind her taking care of some of my data.

No need to worry. In a couple of years they'll be so cheap, you can buy 10 of them, and they'll eagerly take care of all your sensitive data.
