BTW, there are no trees in the cryptoforest - it's just one tree surrounded by fungus - beneficial for both. Wink

Epic comment!

Why every time I come here shitcoins are being discussed on WO? Is it some kind of a trend?  Angry

It's bull season. It's always been like this. Pump / Uppity --> Trollery / Shitcoinery.

It's fun, just enjoy it. We all know who's going to be the last one laughing.

what you are describing is right. but i also think it is kind of sad to see the lack of discipline. shitcoinery shits e v e r y w h e r e  in the "crypto-space"  it is like the smell of a rotten corpse, a regular maxi cannot get used to this stinky mess.

is it really asked to much to spare the WO with this bullshit? why do the folks that bring it in here not bringing it where it belongs? to the shitcoin threads. because no one is listening there? that should tell you something.

I think WO has attained a high status over the many years of its existence, and everyone and their grandma wants to be part of it, or at least wants to post here, see the reactions, maybe get a couple of merits. Trolls crave attention, and WO serves as a playground for them. They come, dump their shit and wait for the smell to upset the residents.

We used to have BCH/BSV shills, who at least had something to say about things. We had r0ach who was not a shitcoiner, but a bitter Nazi nocoiner. I'm going to say this and you can hate me, but I liked r0ach's posts. It was fun to read his Jew-hating, Hitler-praising, PM-shilling nonsense. Like the crazy man in the village so to speak...

Then there was kwukduck & proudhon, the beartards. Again, fun to read and imagine who was really behind the keyboard. A whale having fun? A bitter mindrusted former coiner? Just a random someone with nothing better to do?

Currently I see the level of trollery and shitcoinery drop way below what it used to be. One could disagree with r0ach, but he could still defend his position with "evidence", no matter how nonsensical they were. Nowadays we just have what I call "kamikazi trolls", i.e., they come, drop a load of crap and leave.

Still, the trend remains, i.e., when we're in bull season there's increased troll activity. I wish this did not happen but it does. I just look at the price, enjoy the positive vibes, skip the bad troll posts, have some fun with the good ones. The beauty of WO is that it has achieved a way of self-moderation without some WO-policemen banning or removing posts constantly. Here there's total freedom, yet there is no chaos like in other threads. A kind of orderly anarchy. I like that.

Edit: Corrected typos.

Selling BTC makes sense only if you subsequently (and soon) use the obtained fiat to fund some project, purchase, Lambos, hookers, blow, whatever. Selling BTC just to keep fiat in the bank is a near-guaranteed way to lose wealth. And you must be mentally prepared to accept the inevitable fact that whatever you buy will soon become the most expensive item of its kind (for you), as has been my Trezor h/w wallet, which is now valued at over $5,000 (I paid 0.14 BTC to buy it, when I could have bought it for $119 in fiat, which I had). Use this analogy for whatever you're planning to buy.

Of course, there are some things that cannot wait. Dreams and goals we set in life, which we should aim to fulfill when we are young enough to enjoy them. HoDLing while being miserable is not wise... It's up to the individual to decide when to make their corn work for them.

Sell when you must (but wisely).
Buy when you can.
Always aim to HoDL.

It would seem that the authorities are still learning about bitcoin's properties:

https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2021/2/5/22268646/german-police-bitcoin-digital-wallet-missing-password

Smart guy! I wouldn't give the police my password either, if my stash was worth millions and my sentence was doable (maybe a few years' jail time). And good luck to the police in "ensuring the man cannot access [his] largesse". Little do they know that his stash is just 24+1 words that he could have hidden anywhere (the +1 word is most likely only in his head anyway). It is a great demonstration of the infinite superiority of Bitcoin over physical stores of value like gold or silver which can he easily stolen or seized and cannot be easily hidden or the owner plausibly denying owning them.

This goes to show how important it is to have that extra word (the "passphrase") in addition to the 24 seed words, and keep it separate from the 24 words (ideally only in your head). In that way, the police (or whoever else) can know that you have corn, but cannot access it, and can even be fooled on the specific amount you own by unlocking a decoy wallet and thinking they got you, whereas in reality they only access what you want them to.

For a more detailed explanation of the above, see my article on Plausible Deniability.

you think bitcoin is a lost cause?

[...]

Nope!... I think its the best tools people have for now. (besides some sh!tcoins that they can buy at 0.02$ and they can make a quick buck to catch up the big BTC)

Apart from the question if you believe in the long-term existence of BTC/crypto or not - which you're free to or not to - I do not see how your remarks are on-topic.

What's the relevance of your point of view to this WO speculation thread?

I don't think it's about being off-topic, but more about being blind/dumb...

So sad...

Back to the trend.

This chart is too bearish.  We aren’t topping out at a mere $100k this year.

Which top?
The one at ~ $100k (May-June) or the one at ~ $250k (November-December)? Wink

Exactly. It's a log chart. I see a top of at least $200k.

RELIGIONS ALWAYS DIE.

That's not true. Zoroastrianism has been in practice for over 3,000 years.

All Hail Zarathustra!

That's the problem with religions. They live far too long and keep destroying lives...

DOGE price is not reacting much to Elon Musk's nonsensical tweets. That's good.

There's only one King Daddy.

HoDL.
1471  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 04, 2021, 02:49:35 PM
Elon playing with the Doge boys again, must be interesting making a tweet and having such an impact on the market like that. I noticed he's removed his #bitcoin title too

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1357241340313141249

Doge, really? Proof that even forward thinking billionaires can be woefully ignorant.

As long as he keeps treating Bitcoin (as well as crypto in general) as a joke and not taking it seriously, he can rightly fk off.

That guy is a clown.

he's just having fun. isn't it entertaining to see the market blow up after he posted not an endorsement, but a meme, and it was not the first time doge appeared in his tweets...

I don't really care if he is "having fun".

The time for Bitcoin to be taking seriously in the public eye is now.

If he was a responsible person, he'd be telling his followers that DOGE is a complete shitcoin and nothing more, and that they should stay far away from it.

Instead, he's doing the opposite. And some people will be taking him very seriously.

This is why the public continues to remain uneducated and ignorant about Bitcoin, because (along with all crypto) it is treated like a meme and a scam, even by highly visible people.

As much as I like and admire Elon Musk and his achievements, I think he's wrong about this. He should be supporting Bitcoin. DOGE may be good for fun and memes, maybe even for GameStop/Robinhood, but it shouldn't be supported by people like Musk. I've just read some of his latest tweets and it looks like he's on drugs. Something's off...

While gobs of dumb money is off chasing meme stonks, SLV, shitcoins, and other various pumps....

...smart money will be quietly accumulating Bitcoin on the down low.

Maybe this was the mother of all diversions for 2021?

I don't know what it was, but I have a feeling that 2021 will be the best year to date for Bitcoin, it will be talked about as "the year of mainstream acceptance". Can't explain it, no math or science (maybe some), just gut feeling. And I can tell you that my gut feeling has never failed me.

I think 6 digits (stable) are pretty much a given, which will be sufficient for most of us. Musk, Saylor et al. will just help accelerate the inevitable.

Edit: I'm tempted to replace "stable" with "peak" in the sentence above (the conservative in me), but no, I won't.

That dude is all talk. People should stop kissing his ass.

All talk?

The man is sending rockets to space...

He went down in my estimations when he called one of the heroic Thai cave rescuers a pedophile, just because he didn't have time to consider Elon's PR stunt submarine idea

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jul/15/elon-musk-british-diver-thai-cave-rescue-pedo-twitter

Everyone says stupid shit from time to time. None of us are immune from the occasional moment of stupidity, his are just very public.

The fact is, he is changing the world the same way BTC is. You have to give him credit for that at the very least.

I'm with lightfoot on the open source thing though.

It's my ass being driven around, I'd like to know what the driver is "thinking".

It will likely never happen though. I see two reasons off the top of my mind.

1. Keeping trade secrets. This could seem moot, given that actual production has a deep moat - high entry level, but think of copycat Chinese factories. Tesla knockoffs at 1/3 the price?

2. Regulation. This is much tougher. Once the car is smart enough to mind speed limits etc. for you, do you think traffic authorities will be keen to give up that level of control? Let you hack the "engine" at your will? Forget it.

I see your point, and I like the idea of Open Source, but I don't think you will be able to really know what the driver is "thinking"... Having access to code does not mean one can easily understand it, especially if it's complex code. Sometimes I have difficulty understanding my own code, written maybe a year before. And my code is full of carefully written comments and documentation, so beautiful it's almost a work of art. But if it's very complex, it won't be so easy to run it in your head and understand it fully. Usually, Open Source relies on larger entities, like universities or research institutions, auditing and evaluating the code, which is OK, but you'll still be relying on others to tell you what the driver is "thinking", to the best of their abilities...

IMHO, it's not likely to happen, for many reasons, some of which you've already outlined.

"Warning: Get your Bitcoin out of Robinhood while you still can!"

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/l8lmgq/warning_get_your_bitcoin_out_of_robinhood_while/

Quote
If you purchased a BTC at say $30,000, but never took it out of Robin Hood, they may never have bought one, to begin with. They have your $30K and you have nothing. If they didn't have one on hand when they took your money, they will have to buy one now at almost $34K. If they do have your coins on hand, they are strapped for cash due to the squeeze and if they liquidate your BTC you are GOXED.

Those fucks. I hope they go bankrupt very soon.

Never forget: "Not your keys, not your Bitcoin."

still an another prove that mindrust didn't understand the bigger picture or don't care about it.  Roll Eyes

he deserves to be a NOCOINER.

The hedge funds that shorted the stock to a technically unsustainable level are getting what they deserve. However, the same goes for the idiots who are still buying the stock. GME isn't worth $400 a share and in all likelihood will never be worth $400 a share.  A collapse is all but guaranteed.  Right now there is still to much hype driving the buy side, but this will lose momentum over time for the simple fact that people sitting on huge paper gains can't realize them without selling. Just as the buildup gained momentum, eventually the opposite will happen and the collapse will build momentum.  One thing remains invariably true- anyone who loses money trading this absolutely deserves it.

If I had a RH account right now i would short the fuck out of that stock. I don't give af if that's a riot against the hedge funds or the financial system. That screams free money. They were aiming for $300-500 at first and then they started screaming $1000 lately i see them if they want to pump this to $60k because they calculated the whole wall street would go bust if they do so. What kind of drugs are they taking again?

If they want to wreck the wall street why don't they long gold? If all those people were longing gold instead that would cause much more harm.

As you said the company is initially worthless. Even if they pump it to $100k eventually it will return to 0.

I'm sure he would say exactly the same thing about Bitcoin. He really wants everything to collapse to zero, so that his predictions come true. That's what selfishness can do to you...

Still, I wish him well. May he have the mental strength to accept what's coming. It's going to be very difficult for a nocoiner who used to own 10 BTC to maintain his sanity a couple of years from now... It's going to be torture, and I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

The world would be a better place if there were more like him.

This is regardless of his stance on Bitcoin.

Good morning WOers! What a wonderful Saturday morning. Winter, but a sunny and super-bright day. Enjoying my morning coffee, watching the price at $34k and feeling totally free and able to do virtually anything I ever wished for.

No GME for me. No DOGE. Too much hassle. When you have enough King Daddy, you stick to the King.

Thank you Bitcoin.

Onwards & upwards.
