I upgraded all mine to v2, had to adjust the starting frequency for most of them but if they are in a datacenter kept nice and cool they should be fine.

If you run them at home, then no don't upgrade to v2, you lose the ability to control the fans as it all becomes automated in the software. So they run hotter and faster.

That being said, any new S9/T9 will have the same v2 firmware so you would be in the same boat if buying new machines.
803  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 02, 2017, 02:59:48 PM
idk about feb 20th delays...i got an email last night from bitmain saying my s9's are being picked up and my tracking info will be sent to me.

There were no "delays", S9's purchased in the past couple of weeks have been subject to shipping times starting from the 20th Feb, as per the announcement by Bitmain on this site and on bitmains web page where you placed the order. The next batch which is currently for sale has shipping dates starting the 1st March.

So if you get it before the date that you agreed for it to be sent (20th Feb or March 1st) then thats pretty cool and lucky and nice of bitmain to minimise the delays which make turning a profit from mining more and more difficult.

Dear Bitcoiners,

We are launching two new batches of the Antminer S9 today with shipping starting from 20 February 2017.

These two batches can deliver a hashrate of 13TH/s and 13.5TH/s, respectively.

They will be available at this link after 2300 hours (Beijing time, GMT+8) today (24 January 2017).

We advise all to confirm their order while stock lasts.

Please reach out to us at support.bitmain.com for any queries.

Happy mining and a happy Chinese New Year Smiley,

The Bitmain team

Same here.  Order has been confirmed / marked as PAID on Bitmain side.

Fingers crossed they get them shipped ASAP!

Depends whether you think shipping in a months time is ASAP enough for you.

You did read the announcement, and the part of the page where you ordered that says "Shipping starts 20 February on a first-order-first-ship basis." right?

Basically they've tied up your money for at least 4 weeks while you cannot hash.

805  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 24, 2017, 01:38:26 PM
Probably around $1400 each.

Should really give a $230 discount on them as that's how much you will lose waiting a month for delivery.

For all of us S9 and T9 buyers it would have been nice to get some coupons like they used to do.

808  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: need help for btc miner sp20 on: January 22, 2017, 07:35:47 PM
Spondoolies who ran myminer.io is no longer trading as a company, so the myminer.io site no longer works

The miner should pickup an IP address from your router automatically.

Check your router DHCP table and see what the IP of the miner is, then put that IP address in your web browser.

Also check the Spondoolies thread for more help, this question has been asked many times before. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.0

I can NOT believe their garbage left over stock sold out that fast.

My god you people are worse then nintendo fan boys

What ever they put up and stick their name on you scoop up like drug addicts.

Can't wait to see the failure rate on these!

Maybe actually decided to make reliable miner when oposition starts to show up.

There was no need to design for reliabilty previously with the rapid chip improvements, now that chip efficiency gains are slowing to match Moores law it makes sense to improve reliability and minimize customer support costs.

Still, trading efficiency and power for reliability? Farther down the road that isn't going to work. It's just a cash grab for them and we have no idea if that's true or not, if these miners are actually more reliable. Hasn't ever happened much in the past and if anything their reliabilty has gone downhill since the S1.

As far as I can see Bitmain doesn't have any significant IP (patents etc), so I would hope as bitcoin continues to be adopted that eventually more chip foundries and manufacturers will get in the game and drive up competition, which will mean better products at better costs.

Actually its gone the other way, a couple of years ago there were many more chip manufacturers. There are still 3 or 4 still going, but bitmain has the most efficient chip at the moment.

812  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining: Where do I start? on: January 20, 2017, 07:32:17 AM
I'm pretty new to the Bitcoin mining world, as I have just recently got a decently powerful computer. I understand that in order to make a sizeable profit mining you need some sort of rig/hardware, as when I try to mine with my GTX 1060 GPU I clock out somewhere around 1USD worth of BTC per day. However I am not looking to make a living, and I do not want to invest too much money into the hardware. What are some things I can purchase in terms of hardware that are cheap and simple? And where can I get them? Would love to hear your feedback and any additional information or tips for beginners would be great Grin

You are not getting $1 per day mining bitcoin with a GTX1060, more like $1 per year

Quote
Transaction Fees and Payouts
  • Pool fee is 2% (calculated from block reward and transaction fees).
  • Fees from bitcoin transactions are paid to miners that use Stratum interface.
  • Orphaned (invalid) blocks are not paid. It helps to keep pool fee low.
  • Pool is not an e-wallet or a bitcoin bank. We are not responsible for loss of your bitcoins which are stored in the pool account. All your mined coins have to be regularly paid out to your secured wallet.
816  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP31 Yukon setting on: January 07, 2017, 04:09:09 PM
Probably SOL as the company is no more, and they didn't offer the firmware updates as downloads, only through their interface.

Best bet is to find a recovery firmware as I outlined below, search through the spondoolies thread to see what you can find.

818  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How to avoid VAT when buying inside EU ? on: January 07, 2017, 01:07:13 PM
My advice is just either to pay VAT or find a local seller who is interested in doing a P2P trade. Doing anything else could classify as tax evasion, which can be punished harshly for.

Or don't ship them to Europe, no VAT or taxes if hosting in China or US and electricity/maintenance costs are way lower.

Hash rate up here by a PH or so and seems to be climbing
820  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: January 07, 2017, 01:02:58 PM
Overall hash rate for the network taking a bit of a dive. And some pools seem to be getting a few extra PH
