There are known botnets that have thousands of very low hash (5 h/s) connections.

I can only comment on that after seeing the data, not from hearsay.

Fair enough, Im just letting you know what the data will tell you and why I don't think it will be too useful in the quest to ascertain the number of user on any given day. Its not hearsay its an accepted fact, speak to some pool ops and you will get a better idea of the mining landscape.
842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: July 30, 2014, 01:14:36 PM
Lets be fair though finding out the number of miners connected to a pool has almost no bearing on users of the coin on any given day in history. Lets also not forget that even if in some way it could that would just show you the amount of miners connected to the known pools and tell you nothing of the private pools and also the solo miners.

It is a useful piece of information still. At least it is doubtful that the ownership is less than the number of miners.

No single source can give a complete answer to the number of users question, so we must take what is available and work from that.

Is it?

There are known botnets that have thousands of very low hash (5 h/s) connections.

What about all the miners who just mine for profits and instantly convert to btc?

Attention, please! I’m extremely pleased to present you the CN Block Explorer. Check out its exceptionally useful and well-detailed features! Some of you might remember that I’ve been missing for a whole month. So as you see I haven’t been fooling around all this time.  I’m open to your suggestions as to how to improve the website. PM me if you’ve got smth to share.

AEON blockchain                                      Bollberry BBR blockchain

On first glance that looks very nice, well done.

I have been searching for data to estimate the number of users in any given day of history. Any such data is appreciated and small bounties will be given for any information that might help to estimate anything related to this. Currently the usercount numbers are too speculative to be published, and all further econometrics that might be derived from having them available is lost to the world.

Miners can be estimated by the pool logs:

grep Accepted.*share pool.log | sed -e 's/ .*from.\([a-zA-Z0-9]*\)@.*/ \1/' | awk '{if(!d[$1,$2]){d[$1,$2]=1;t[$1]++}}END{for(n in t){print n ": " t[n]}}' | sort

This outputs a list of number of miners per day.

Mine ranges from 1 to 4 (whee!) per day.

Of course, since miners change pools, you'll get an overestimate unless you feed the logs to this command at once so the same address isn't counted multiple times. Then this gives you a lower bound to total users. If you then know the typical miners/users ratio from other coins with a more public blockchain at a point in their history similar to XMR now, you can extrapolate miners to users too.

Lets be fair though finding out the number of miners connected to a pool has almost no bearing on users of the coin on any given day in history. Lets also not forget that even if in some way it could that would just show you the amount of miners connected to the known pools and tell you nothing of the private pools and also the solo miners.

From here : 8 million USD in bids to 270.
8 million USD in asks to 700

Now thats a pretty scary prospect. Such little liquidity for an $8billion market.

Is Poloniex down? I am not able to connect with Google chrome or IE.

Im connected fine using firefox, they have been migrating domain names or something similar, check their twitter.

hilarious. i know it is not the best place for this kind of advice, but if i was you i would rather focus on my education(school) than spamming this thread and wasting my time in hope that the value of the 2 btc that you claim to have goes to the moon

*facepalm.

You do realise he was joking...?

I have joined this campaign over month ago and I haven't been posting for a while because I had some issues in RL and now I back. Do my posts still count?

Yes on the 17th just claim for all the posts you have made in the time period, as long as you were enrolled using the new system. If its been that long you will want to PM Stunna to confirm.

Hi,
I have problem with 32 bit Windows wallet. I cannot sync it. I would like to withdraw founds from it, could somebody put blockchain on some kind of a filesharing service or torrent?  Cry

PS. I don't know my mnemonic seed.

Do you have a 64 bit system you can follow these instruction on ?

*WINDOWS USERS* (I think Linux users may do very very the same)

In case of any technical problem you have encountered with Monero:

0. Assume your 32-bit wallet file name is "wallet.bin" (adjust this instruction for other name accordingly)
1. Backup your wallet.bin.* files.
2. Delete ALL Monero files from your computer.
3. Download 64-bit Monero zip & blockchain.bin from 1st sticky page of this thread.
4. Unzip & place all the files downloaded above to the directory: "C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\bitmonero\".
5. From the backup made at step 1, place wallet.bin.* files !!! EXCEPT wallet.bin itself !!! into directory at step 4.
6. Start bitmonerod.exe and wait for it to sync with the net.
7. Start simplewallet by the commad prompt: "simplewallet --wallet-file wallet.bin" (!!! name of the file that must NOT exist in directory at step 4 !!!).
8. When you want to stop any monero executables - ALWAYS type "exit" & be patient.

simplewallet re-creates correct version of wallet.bin for you.

Since you migrate to 64-bit Monero by CORRECT WAY mentioned above - you will never have any problem except being patient due to Monero is currently somewhat slow.

Great thanks! Everything works like charm  Cheesy

Good to hear it, as said credit goes to Florida.Haunted for the instructions but glad to of been of help  Cheesy

What do you guys think of just using volume as a way of gauging public interest in alts?
I realize it is not perfect, clearly. But it has been nice seeing XMR climb, but we are not alone.

Here is the site I use to see alt volumes: http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/v2/coins/info
(If you know of any others, please let me know.)

Currently we are the #6 coin. Dark has been falling. But Cloak seems to be extremely strong in volume lately.  It is almost on par with LTC.
I have read not much good about Cloak here, but it is almost the #2 coin and it is an "anonymous" coin as well. Volume is around 1000 BTC.

IAS

Cloak is just having its pump, averaging the volumes over a week or so will tell you a different story.

So what do you guys think about the fact that the wall at 575 disappeared?

Someone finished selling his stash and does not need price support any more?

May be it's true, now we will going down, it was purposefully putted there.

I think we're going down for sure, how far ? Who knows. Where were are the significant points of resistance ?

I didn't received payment for previous round, probably because I was too late to claim it. How should I claim payment on 17th to get payed for previous month too?

Just claim for that number of posts for the two months. Stunna has no probelm with you rolling over.

So..... test of 550-560 incoming? Then maybe we go up? Just kinda hoping I don't have to sit through months of bear market. Undecided

Just step away from the charts and enjoy your summer, nothing to see here!

Seems weird to have two forums especially when the original isnt used that much. I must admit though I dont particuarly like the gui but there no point splitting the community.

Its not private.

4% fee though if I remember correctly.

Tbf the ASICMiner angle does have some credibility to it on first glance.

Ah OK, wasn't sure. But 4% seems like a huge markup for a rather large mining operation like ASICMiner. Maybe they're better off solo-mining, then. Do you think they could have made a deal with Discus Fish for lower fees, though?

Yeah for sure, thats why the ASICminer angle has some credibilty, if your bringing petahashes of mining power they wont be charging you as high of a fee.

1% of $100 is better than 4% of $10 (crude example!)
858  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 29, 2014, 03:59:01 PM
Wow discus fish looking to overtake Ghash soon!

Wow Ghash have moved a load of their mining power to discuss fish to make it look as though they don't own 50% Wink

I subscribe to this theory as well.  Catalyst to change coming.

ASICMiner supposedly also started mining with a farm of their own in mid-July again - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=99497.msg8079787#msg8079787. So there's gotta be some Hashpower coming from them as well. Discus Fish is some private Chinese pool, isn't it? It would make sense for Friedcat to mine there!

Its not private.

4% fee though if I remember correctly.

Tbf the ASICMiner angle does have some credibility to it on first glance.
859  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: July 29, 2014, 03:35:43 PM

10K Is not possible. Quantum computers will destroy bitcoins. These computers will be 1000 times faster than current super computer.

"And they strongly imply that brute-force attacks against 256-bit keys will be unfeasible until computers are built from something other than matter and occupy something other than space."

That will do me, thanks.

I've been consistently wrong pretty much all year now.  Grin

Its to be expected from a bull in a bear market, your time will come again. I hope its soon
