You guys should put your money where your mouth is and stop supporting Bitcoin blocking Apple. Buy some Bitcoin loving Android phone.
Except then I would have an android phone.
Wich would be a good thing actually
Unfortunately in the head of those disciples the Apple religion is stronger than (Bitcoin) freedom.
So I can't have free choice and choose apple?  If I choose apple then I am a zelot?  The only true choice is android?  Doesn't sound much like free will to me.
842  Economy / Gambling / Re: [ANN] BTCDice.com - The Best Bitcoin Game in the World! - Better Payouts on: August 16, 2012, 04:22:53 PM
I've tried with the system based on math:

The system is simple. You bet 1, if you lose, you bet 2, if you lose you bet 4, etc. If this dice game would be based on 100% math, you will earn. I'm not sure, but it looks like interference in math rules. I understand if it's protection, but it should be noticed on main site. Just beware. :-)
This is called the martingale system and you need to be careful when betting small amounts on the dice game or you can actually end up in the hole because of TX fees.

Also your bolded statement is false... you may have some good runs, but you will run into the max bet sooner or later and be unable to recover.
843  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] NASTY - Free Electricity, GPUMAX.com, Free ASIC Upgrade! on: August 16, 2012, 01:56:16 PM
I know cheap is relative, but i consider it to be anything less than 0.5 BTC Cheesy
especially when you keep in mind that price recently shot up to 0.7 BTC
All this has happened before, and all of it will happen again  Grin
IMHO NASTY is worth 0.6+ BTC
Agreed... just picked up some more shares myself... was intending to for quite some time but then saw the BFL announcement and thought I was too late.... luckily the market hadn't caught on yet Smiley
844  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS]Dropbox upgrade to 18GB life time for 1BTC on: August 16, 2012, 01:50:38 PM
Processing. Update when delivered
Confirmed as delivered.... I am sure it would have been delivered much faster had *I* been faster responding to my PMs.
For those interested you can see a screenshot @ http://puu.sh/VSgS, it is far to big to inline.
845  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Desktop - Bitcoin client for the common users (friendly and instant) on: August 16, 2012, 12:44:32 AM
Requesting Fair Play and Decency:

I have just had a look at "http://electrum-desktop.com/credits.html".

I am just an observer and user of Electrum and only contributed to its documentation, so my opinion is probably not of much relevance.

Nevertheless, there is something that irritates me quite a bit in this list of credits, and I have to point out this concern. It is about the order of names:
* Either it should be in alphabetical order,
* or it should be in "historical" order (who contributed first),
* or it should be in the order of "amount of contribution".

Since the list is not alphabetical, I would strongly plead to name ThomasV as first name on this list, because both in terms of "historical order" and in terms of "amount of contribution" he is clearly the first one to be credited, and it is just fair and good style not to have his name lost somewhere in the middle of this list.

For comparison: On "http://bitcoin.org/" in the list of developers, Satoshi Nakomoto is still listed first, although he has also stopped contributing for quite some while. But he has started the client, so he is listed first, and that is the right style. And it does not diminish at all the value of other developers' contributions. But it would question these developers' decency if they did not name Satoshi first in the list.

Thanks,
Michael
That seems reasonable to me.

Also I just noticed that I am credited with the mac distribution... this isn't really correct.  Animazing has done much more work  on this than I....  I contributed a couple of small command line patches.

Not unless android has matured by orders of magnitude in the last year.

849  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: August 15, 2012, 08:56:28 PM
can anybody post all 4 bills in one post so it is easier to vote?
Voting is finished, though the four candidates are collected here in the "call to vote" post by casascius.

I think I have just about got the reward payout scheme just about finalized.  And the gracious donation of 10BTC, I think I am going to say should go to the person who successfully marries the BitAddress.org codebase with the SVG version of what is pretty much certainly the first-place winner: the banknote presented to us by Psy.

I plan to tackle integrating this with BitAddress.org's code, though it won't be the SVG version, since the QR code generation on BitAddress.org uses HTML Canvas elements, not SVG elements. So there's two ways to go on this: use the existing BitAddress.org QR library and draw the full banknote as a canvas element (using JPEG/PNG version of the banknote background; output would be a canvas element, which the browser would render as JPEG or PNG. Might be less quality on a print) or find a new QR library that can generate SVG output (could print higher res) rather than canvas (or modify the existing QR library to be SVG; haven't checked to see how hard that is...).

EDIT: Working version of BitAddress.org code with Psy's banknote backgrounds: https://github.com/MidnightLightning/bitaddress.org
Good god that is sexy
850  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: How to Identify a Ponzi on: August 15, 2012, 08:54:31 PM
I'm interested in developing a list of questions/variables that are associated with Ponzis.

Here is my short list.  Please add items to this list and I'll edit the post.

Ponzi Indicators
1. High rate of return
Explanation: ponzi schemes typically offer very high rates of return that are not possible.  Anything that is > 50%/year APR is suspicious.  Anything > 500% APR is very suspicious.  Ponzis can offer lower rates as well (see Maddoff - 10% APR), but these are less common. ...

I would add that quoting interest rates weekly or monthly, rather than the proper annual rate, is a sure sign of an illicit scheme. It aims at very inexperienced investors.

I'll disagree with that for two reasons.

1: Most of the loans are denominated in weekly or monthly rates and the way bitcoin works, an annual rate is less meaningful.  People don't look for 12-month instruments, 4 or 10 weeks is heaps (months are still like years).
2: The APR system used in the USA is a very poor indicator that is quite confusing and misleading for non-US people - took me ages to work it out, and it is terrible.

In the WPW I settled on a one month equivalent rate to rank the interest or return being paid.  Over one year, the difference between compounders and weekly payers would be huge.

^^^ That.... bitcoin is not (currently) like mainstream financial markets.

So now that the BCI wallet is available on the AppStore (yes full version); do you think apple will shut it down before Nov 2012?

855  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator [v0.19] on: August 15, 2012, 06:20:19 PM
Agreed, but "isn't ideal" shouldn't equal "impossible"; I've got GPU-based miners running nicely on this machine, and I have seen previously in the thread other Mac users able to use their NVIDIA cards (so it's not "only AMD", though they had errors if they had a very low worksize parameter). Even if it's not ideal, I should be able to do better than the 600 Kkey/s I get with CPU processing of vanitygen on this box.

I can program in several languages, but OpenCL isn't one of them, so I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Anyone with OpenCL experience able to tell me where I should start trying to solve this?
It isn't impossible, it is just that no one has written a kernel for it.  Infact it is my understanding that nvidia performs so badly in this type of operation that work was abandoned on it years ago.  But I am not a miner and I could be wrong.

Here is a couple of links I found:

856  Economy / Securities / Re: Imsaguy's PPT @ 7% on: August 15, 2012, 06:15:23 PM
I'll just leave this here.....
FYI, here is my interpretation.

Since the existing ToS includes the provision for pirate's ability to change interest rates "with notice", this latest change in interest rates does not violate the terms of the bet contract, even though it did not itself have a 30 day notice. The term "interest rates" was only used as an example of terms that may change in ToS; the list of examples was not intended to be either exhaustive or necessarily-inclusive. The point of the ToS changes section and advance notice thereof, was to make sure that users are given ample notice for any unexpected material changes.

For your easy reference, link to bet contract:

Does anyone have any feedback / info on the electrum wallet for chrome?

Given that you would be giving your private keys to this I would like some more info.

858  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Putting your money where Pirate's mouth is. on: August 15, 2012, 04:16:13 PM
Agreed, as long as its not put into effect pirate has another 10 days left to avoid a cut in his profit margins by 5000 BTC....

It doesn't cut into his profit. Why should the pirate even think about a bet he intended to lose all along?

How do you know what pirate's intentions are/were?

Because they are so obvious.

They may not be obvious to someone who believes he can get rich by handing over his money to some anonymous guy who promises 3,300% interest, but they are obvious to me and to you. We just have opposite intentions. I would like to see you serve a jail term in the cell next to pirateat40.
Why is everyone on about prison?  Why do we protect stupid people?  Why don't we throw them into prison?  If you put more money than you can afford to lose into ANY investment then you are stupid, and by my new logic should be in prison.
859  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using serial numbers on notes for private keys on: August 15, 2012, 03:56:35 PM
One could just brain wallet sequential numbers and check the public key balance against the chain.
For some reason this reminded me of johnny mnemonic where the 'password' was three pictures.

Have a bill that has three images on it that you have to type in.  (like a picture of a rabbit and you have to type in bunny).
