881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 26, 2016, 12:29:26 AM
Moving in and out of the number 2 spot on Poloniex and STILL barely a mention on the altcoin forum. It's really weird. I guess bitcointalkers aren't comfortable discussing non chequered ICO junk. That's probably a good thing.

I think its because we have a totally new and unique audience which Bitcointalk is not a large part of...
882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XEM's 'Proof of Importance' is Pagerank Fused With Proof-of-Stake on: June 25, 2016, 11:17:16 AM
the POI algorithm, albeit unique, is not a huge amount different than a regular POS algorithm, the only difference being that it takes into consideration how many transactions you make.

If you think it can easily be cheated, well i guess all you need to do is move your funds across different accounts constantly.

Thanks for confirming it is just proof-of-stake with some weighting by the transaction graph. That is my read also:

http://nem.io/NEM_techRef.pdf#section.7

As for whether it's security could be gamed (leading to The DAO like failure), well I would argue that the risk is nonzero (given that anyone can make a lot of transactions) until it has been properly peer reviewed. You can't trust one guy to do this sort of analysis.

Well it will be interesting analysis when the code is made open source.
I think its more complex than just moving from one account to another, i think it also takes into consideration the size of the transaction etc.

If its well coded it should be able to work out if you are moving your funds around from account to account.
I think you would have to make many transactions to multiple addresses, and make use a different address each time to circumvent the system, either way, i dont think it would be easy, and then all the fees on top of that may not even make such an attempt worthwhile to pursue.

we will wait and see anyway.
Interestingly I myself have thought about this if it was simple as shifting funds to and from other addresses, and i dont think it would be very easy to cheat to any significant level.
And i dont think if could work even if it could be severly cheated, if a few were doing this, i think it would still balance out, as everyone is still paying the same fees, and they cant go to all the accounts that were cheating.

Not really a surprise that the trolls are at it again now that the price has risen.

I highly doubt Makoto would be silly enough to use something like pagerank that has the potential for cheating if the code was open source.

If you think it can easily be cheated, well i guess all you need to do is move your funds across different accounts constantly.

My importance score has hardly changed from day one anyway.

Bye!! Wink

Shitcoin have shit coins end. He want to sell still 300 BTC worth about.
Manipulators can handle only a short course of a long race.
They may be happy with a profit from their handling, but it's only a grain comparing with final fruit.

Famous Jesse Livermore Quotes - HODL your XEM

1. “Money is made by sitting, not trading.”
2. “It was never my thinking that made the big money for me, it always was sitting.”
3. “Nobody can catch all the fluctuations.”
4. “Buy right, sit tight.”
5. “Men who can both be right and sit tight are uncommon.”
6. “Don’t give me timing, give me time.”

I agree, i want to buy more while i still can too!
I have never sold a single XEM, and im here for the long haul!

I think my projected $5 / xem in 5 year time is coming too soon ...... within 2 years maybe Smiley Go XEM . Im going to hodl.

So you think this is going to be worth 40 billion dollars in 2 years? lol
I think 8 billion might be likely in 5 years, but 1 billion in 12 months is quite possible.
890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 24, 2016, 10:45:13 PM
it really is baffling to me how the price is climbing independent of bitcoin's rise and fall..
What is causing this all of the sudden?

Not that I'm complaining, but just curious as to what exactly is fueling NEM's rise vs all the others that are solid offerings.
The thing is we do have a very solid offering based on facts and not hype, in other words our proof is in the pudding.

NEM is delivering and investors are seeing that.

The DAO hack may have helped also, but i feel its more that people are waking up, and we are talking about financial experts here, not just your random BCT members.  Cheesy

Why should I buy XEM?
note: I have read and done my research, I just want to here it from one of the investors. Smiley

here's some recent developments:

The public/private blockchain model with NEM/Mijin:
http://mijin.io/en/633.html

Dragonfly Partners with Microfinance Company in Malaysia
https://news.bitcoin.com/malaysian-remittance-dragonfly-fintech/

Japanese BANK Testing with NEM Tech:

Infoteria partners with Dragonfly:
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/infoteria-to-partner-with-dragonfly-fintech-300252763.html

This along with devs/team that delivers time and time again.  You will find no hype here.  Just results!

This is not to mention Supernodes, Namespaces/Mosaics, as well as the tech itself,  lots of stuff in the pipeline, & a low market cap of ~$40 million, lots more room to grow!

As someone who appreciates the development of NEM I have a question. I am a long term investor in NEM and hope that the public/private blockchain model with NEM/Mijin is successful.  I am wondering what scenario will lead to real world adoption and an increase in the value of NEM.  Thanks in advance.

Mijin is getting testing from quite a few large organizations at industrial scale.  This kind of rigoruous third party testing, and the development of resources will make the NEM public chain a great option for smaller operations that aren't moving hundreds of millions of dollars.  They get the same security and access to resources using the same API set, but have a chain with $0 start up costs on their part.

Mijin is good for large organizations that want to do millions of transactions a day and don't want to pay a fee for each one, but instead are willing to invest in serious start up costs.
NEM won't have those high start up costs and so therefor will be much easier for smaller organizations to build on.

One question i have is if Mijin uses NEM technology, then what gives it a faster TPS than NEM itself?

The success of Mijin is already demonstrating to banks and financial institutions the power of NEM technology.
This will create widespread real world adoption.

Good to see the price so high despite BTC being so low currently.
Looks like we are slowly starting to detach from the BTC price.  Grin

I'm curious why this coin with the large-cap not having normal Windows wallet? (That does not require installation of Java Oracle).
Is there a  POS income for the owners NEM?
You can earn  transaction fees by harvesting blocks.
There is also the node rewards program currently running.

The wallet can be rewritten in C++ if needbe, and indeed this transition is already being done with catapult. But take note that alot of currencies are now written in java.

900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will be the next $1 Billion Blockchain? on: June 21, 2016, 01:53:27 AM
Well, while many a blockchain is busy hyping itself into a lake of froth on here, NEM is actually being tested out and adapted by, like, proper businesses in Asia. And I don't think ending up on Azure cuts it in anything like the same way.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/dragonfly-fintech-selected-to-implement-payment-solution-300286623.html

These are private implementations but their ability to cross over to the open blockchain may be a very useful thing.

One day soon one of these blockchains will actually be able to justify their valuation. NEM may be it.

I agree, and look at the volume over the last few days.
ICO's such as LISK and WAVES already appear to be a flop, There is more real world adoption and testing currently being done with NEM technology than any other blockchain currently.
