Do you really think autonomous robots are simply the tools!? They won't just augment human's strength and mind as machines did in the past but replace human workers altogether in the most sectors!

If these machines are capable of replacing us, then why would they care about us or do anything to keep our species going? Where would a guaranteed income come from?

The real problem for socialist economies is that there are simply no economical solutions for the technological unemployment utopia. Period!
All proposed solutions for tech unemployment I have ever read are more or less socialist. It will be very interesting if you can to suggest market-base one. Wink

He was saying that the tech unemployment problem is only something that happens in a socialist system, and can't happen in a capitalist system. Thus, there is no solution for tech unemployment in a capitalist system, because such a thing simply can't happen in that system.

Russian soldiers are just standing around doing shit, providing "security." As bad as that may seem, I think it may be better to just let people stand around doing shit, than turn it into a full war that none of the citizens, neither in Crimea, nor rest of Ukraine, want. And I can't think of any options that Obama might have that would not result in bullets flying.

Another week, another feature description. This time one of our newest features: Message Signing!

First, make sure that Expert Mode is enabled in Advanced Settings.

Swipe to the left for a list of your addresses, select the address you wish to sign with, which will change the top bar to blue, click the dropdown menu, and select Sign Message.

Type in the message you wish to sign, and press the Sign Message button.

Your text will be signed, and you will get two options, Copy Signature to Clipboard and Share Text + Signature

The first option copies just the signature into your clipboard. You can use this if you just need to submit the signature by itself to a text challenge screen, such as to register on #bitcoin-otc channel.

The second option will share the text, address, and signature all bundled together in a format similar to PGP. For instance, in the example above, the shared result will look like this:

Quote
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hello world!
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNATURE-----
Version: Bitcoin-qt (1.0)
Address: 1Rassahgt3XSxKVJ62oSrQJxtH3wk4MKX

G50n39XFHXTYb4NRlzORTiKmsznIidz/s1gFZpXi8w/vEYapVLYbiTFloObeWHcslRedioAXVHB6Ckihs/p4Nns=
-----END BITCOIN SIGNATURE-----

As for updates, besides the new version 1.1.10 just being rolled out, our developers (Jan and Andreas) are still working hard on Local Trader. We plan on getting the Testnet version out by Wednesday of this week, just in time for the Bitcoin Conference in Austin, TX. I'll be there, so feel free to grab me for a demo. The thing we're working on now is push notifications for the trader, which will alert you when you have a pending or accepted trade even while Mycelium is not running. I know some of you have asked for notifications for when you receive payments (because it's always great to hear the Ka-Ching! of incoming money Grin), and this will be the first step towards implementing that. Or rather will make adding that feature much easier.

Isn't The Bilderberg Group just a conference for wealthy business leader types, where they can meet in peace to network, discuss their own plans, and just relax among their own peers, without the media and fans following them all over the place? The documentary I saw on it made it anything but sinister.

Consumer demand is the resource that will be depleted!

The only point at which consumers stop demanding is when they die.
988  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Study: Everyone hates environmentalists and feminists on: February 28, 2014, 05:45:38 AM
Yeah, um, I was in a feminist club in my university (even though I'm a guy) and it was not at all like the "whiney self-aggrandized emo 20 somethings" described. They didn't want to be in power and bring men down, and they didn't want things to be built to look like vaginas. What they wanted and were protesting for were things like equal pay, the right to do what they want with their body, not being called sluts just for enjoying sex, and most importantly of all, they were against segregationist gender stereotypes that are still so pervasive in our culture. Starting with blue for boys / pink for girls, going through trucks and construction sets for boys / dolls and play kitchens for girls, and ending with positions of power and dominance in employment for boys / service and support positions for girls. And the cultural "norms" forced on everyone about how boys should be tough, cold, withdrawn, and unemotional, and girls have to act fragile, hyper, nosy, and overly emotional. Which is why I joined too. That whole gender stereotype thing hurts guys as well, since it doesnt allow us to let our emotions out, and we are just forced to keep it all inside and drown it all in alcohol, or slowly die inside  Embarrassed

I'm sort of kidding, of course, but I have seen this cultural expectation really screw with a friend of mine (think about as bad as it can get), and it wasn't something I was personally a fan of either.

RBE is just free market capitalism, but with votes instead of money as a demand signal.
In RBE all means of production are public property so there are no capital owners at all (in fact, entire population of the community owns equal share of the economy). Difficult to call it the capitalism!

Whoever controls what each member of the public is able to receive, owns the capital. Be it a capitalist person, or an RBE computer system.
991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BFL: Hardware Wallet?! on: February 25, 2014, 05:35:07 AM
What I know about this is:

They were hoping to sell them for $40, but the E-Ink screen turned out to be so expensive that they'll likely have to sell it for $140.
The device will be waterproof, with the internal circuitry sprayed with a sealant. Hopefully this means that it can be safely washed in a washing machine (albeit accidentally).
They plan to include bluetooth, which will let it use your phone's 3G connection to broadcast bitcoin transactions instantly (no WiFi though).
Since this has both a screen to display QR codes, and a camera in the back, you will be able to do offline transactions without needing to be connected to the web. First device that gets a web connection will transmit all cached transactions (this is partially supported by Schildbach Android Wallet too btw).
There will be a MicroSD slot, which you can use for multi-sig. You can store private keys on different SD cards, and spending from a multi-sig address will require you to plug in all SD Cards that have the required private keys one at a time.
Blame this on me if I get this wrong, but estimated ready to sell time is by the end of Spring or some time this Summer.

Open letter from Russian in Ukraine to Russians in Russia

Quote
Dear friends, the letter below went viral during the last several days. I made an English translation of it, so non-Ukrainians could have better understanding of what's going on in Ukraine. Please feel free to disseminate it as you see fit. V.Y.

FEBRUARY 2014 EVENTS IN UKRAINE: OPEN LETTER TO RUSSIANS IN RUSSIA FROM KIEV

                (Translated from Russian)

Digest:

This is the open letter to the Russian public, written by someone (need to find out who exactly) in Kiev, February 19 2014, on the day when snipers killed lots of people on the Maidan, in front of the live web cameras. This letter apparently went viral among Russian-speaking supporters of the Maidan protesters. The language of the letter is very strong, because emotions were very strong that day, and for a good reason. The author gives a brief account of the events: how they got started, and how they unfolded. He expresses frustration with the meddling of Russian authorities, and with the conformity and servility of Russian mass media and Russian public opinion. This letter is translated from Russian to English for the benefit of non-Russian speaking Ukrainian diaspora, and for all people who do not read Russian or Ukrainian but are interested in the ‘first-hand account from the member of the general public’. It also dispels the widely expressed opinion that at the root of the trouble in Ukraine is the conflict between Russian-speaking and Ukrainian-speaking groups and regions. The author writes and thinks in Russian, but it does not prevent him from supporting the struggle of the Maidan or condemning depraved Russian influence.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Dear friends,

I am writing to those who are in Russia, because everyone in Ukraine already knows and understands everything I want to say. I decided to write this after receiving yesterday many bizarre messages and inquiries from Moscow. I have the full impression that there no one understands what’s going on in Kiev, and this is why I want to do some explaining. I think I have the right to do that, since I am Russian, was born in Moscow, but live in Ukraine for seven years now. I have family, two kids, and a teaching job here.

Everything that is happening now in Ukraine is not a conflict between the government and the radicals. There are no two sides here, and we cannot even talk about attempts to resolve the conflict through the talks, or through ‘plowing with the tanks’ as some are suggesting in Russian mass media. Here’s what we have. For four years now we have lived with Yanukovych. He won elections with the microscopic lead, and with massive election fraud, especially in the Eastern Regions. Once elected, he grabbed an unprecedented power for himself, changing the Constitution for this purpose. He took 35 billion dollars in credits. He jailed his election opponent using drummed-up charges. In four years Ukraine grew impoverished. Now it is impossible to conduct business here, pay taxes, or do any creative work.  Health care, education, city services – all totally deteriorated. Against this backdrop, our country was re-modelled to fit the needs of Yanukovych’s family. His son suddenly became a multi-billionaire. Yanukovych himself became the third-most-expensive President to upkeep – after Obama and Putin. His one day costs us 2 million US dollars. For the last six months he kept telling us that the problems of Ukraine would be solved if we sign the treaty with the European Union. Every day we were told that, with the detailed explanations. One day before the treaty was due to be signed, he announced that he changed his mind and did not even care to give any reason why.

In Kiev, several hundred people took to the Maidan. They said they want the treaty to be signed; they want something to be changed. Not that everyone wanted to be in the European Union that much, but this treaty was seen as a hope for some reforms, for some improvement of our life. Those people kept gathering for several days, and then their numbers dwindled. When only five hundred remained, Ukrainian special security forces, Berkut (Hawks) attacked them. People were severely beaten, chased all around downtown, roughed up, and packed into the police vans. Many took refuge in Michailovsky Sobor (St. Michael Cathedral). This action caused such an outrage that on the next day the Maidan gathering was revitalized. Those who showed up this time demanded that organizers of the beatings should be punished according to the law. Yes, they also occupied the building of the city administration, and tried to come close to the President’s Administration building, but it is difficult to control a furious crowd a million people strong. Nobody demanded Yanukovych’s resignation yet. People just said that they will stay on the Maidan until the perpetrators are punished. After ten days, police tried to clear up the Maidan by force. They did not succeed. After this authorities abandoned all civilized rules and norms. People connected to the Maidan protests were snatched, kidnapped, beaten, tortured, and killed. Around the city, government-sponsored gangs of thugs, dubbed “Titushki” by the population, began to attack anyone they did not like. The Maidan was still going strong.  After a month of a stand-off, parliamentarians from Yanukovich’s party rammed through the package of laws that made everybody standing on the Maidan a criminal: with fifteen years of prison as a sentence. It had become very clear that Yanukovych did not want to punish organizers of the first attempt to dissolve the protesters, did not want to fire any of his associates, did not want to have talks about anything. People got desperate, and not knowing what to do began to storm the government city blocks. Now they had nothing to lose, since each one was standing to receive fifteen years in jail anyway.  Street fights begun to break out. All regions of Ukraine except Donetsk and Crimea rose up. That’s it. There is no split, no division in Ukraine. It is stupid and foolish to think so.  Then Yanukovich got scared, cancelled repressive laws and sacked the Prime Minister. The truce was going on for almost a month. During this month he participated in talks and promised to do something. During this month an operation to liquidate Maidan protest was planned and prepared. Russian secret services provided inputs for this plan.

The day before yesterday our Parliament was scheduled to discuss new Constitution changes, designed to limit the powers of the President. They also were about to vote to nominate a new Prime Minister. Maidan activists decided to organize a demonstration near Verhovna Rada (Supreme Council – the Parliament of Ukraine). They wanted to remind the people’s elected representatives about their responsibilities. When they marched to the Rada, they were met by Berkut (special riot police) and Titushki (government-sponsored thugs). People were beaten and hit by stones. Rubber bullets and Molotov cocktails were strewn at them from the rooftops. People dispersed and retreated. After that, a new attack on the Maidan has begun. Everything was prepared in advance. Kiev’s metro (underground) was shut down. All roads to the city were blocked by concrete barricades and heavy construction trucks. In the downtown electricity and telecommunications were cut off.  Authorities thought they will take over the Maidan in two hours and suppress the protest. Mass arrests of participants and their supporters were planned for the next morning. But the Maidan stood strong, even though Berkut used armored personnel carriers, water cannons, and shrapnel –packed hand grenades. The Ukrainian security services  issued firearms to the Titushki (thugs). The Titushky began to shoot the pedestrians on the streets, loot the stores, and set parked cars on fire. I don’t know what would have happened if they prevailed. But the Maidan stood on.

Yesterday half of the country erupted. The Metro is still not working. It is dangerous to move around the city – armed Titushki kill people everywhere, even in my own neighborhood. Berkut and police take people from the streets, torture them and kill them. Wounded are taken from the hospitals, loaded into police vans, and removed to unknown locations. Today, when some military units declined to participate in the battle, Berkut and Titushki got automatic rifles. Right now, today on the Maidan, snipers killed dozens of people. Yanukovich summons to the city not only the riot police, but the military personnel in full combat gear.

Think about it. Yesterday there was a talk about eighty people killed and thousands wounded. Many of those wounded lost their eyes, arms. Many have burnt lungs, since gas grenades were used mercilessly. Hospitals are overflowing. The Titushki assault the medical personnel and set ambulances on fire.

I want to say that in this situation there is no division along any legitimate political lines. Yanukovych is a murderer and a tyrant, a totally deranged man. He is not interested in anything besides preserving his own power. There can be no two opinions about it, like there can be no two opinions about Hitler.  The things that are being said out loud in Russia, about ambitious Klichko, about ‘plowing the Maidan with tanks’ pushes our countries to levels of animosity unprecedented in history. Don’t believe the Russian mass media, even the liberal ones! There is no division, no standoff. There is a deranged, sick man with the criminal past. He wants to drown our country in blood.

I want everybody in Russia to take a pause and think. All of this would not be happening if not Putin, who backed up and encouraged Yanukovych, told him to disperse the Maidan. And be warned that Berkut members have the same mindset as Putin. They decorate their uniforms with “St.George’s Cross” stripes. I am afraid this symbol will become a synonym of the swastika very soon. The responsibility for the events in Kiev lies on Russians, who got addled up by their imperialistic chauvinism. Russia, which built up one of the most disgusting political regimes in human history, which supported and still supports all the cannibals of the world, starting with Lukashenko and ending with Asad, Russia is guilty first and foremost. Here, in Kiev, I am ashamed that I am a Russian.

I am sure in a couple of years from now, when the era of oil super-profits will come to an end  and it will become clear that Putin is not capable of managing anything, then the same story will be happening in Russia as well. The government buildings in the regions will burst up in flames. Federal republics will announce their secession. And then Putin will be left with a million policemen, half-a-million Security Services, and a million United Russia party members. And he will try to drown Russia in blood in the same way Yanukovych is doing right now, because they can do nothing else. And then everyone in Russia will understand what’s going on in here. But for now you can enjoy your Olympics, and your travels to exotic destinations. There is still a little time left.

Hi Dmitry... We met briefly there at Bad Decisions but we didn't talk much.

I sent this email to John , and he told me about your Bitcoin 100 project. Which sounds a lot better fit than Bitcoin Baltimore. Here's the email as I sent it to him. My further comments under the --- at the end.
---------------------------
I am not sure if I told you or you heard me talk about it at the last meetup, but my upcoming exchange, AllCrypt.com, donates to charity. We allow individuals to choose from pre-approved charities to donate a portion of their trades to. If they do not care, we have an AllCrypt.com Charity Pool, where we take those funds and donate them to a charity of our choice.

My point: My son's cub scout pack today brought donations we collected to the ACTC - the Assistance Center of Towson Churches. I spoke to their director and explained my site, and told her we'd love to add them to the donation options.

The one hiccup - we ONLY donate to BTC accepting charities. That is two fold: First, it's easier and fits with our model - we don't need to convert to fiat and have ti cut a check. Second - it helps promote BTC. If we have 10 BTC a month to donate to charity, but only give it to BTC accepting charities, we think that helps spread the GOOD word about cryptocurrency and get more charities on board.

Thats where Bitcoin Baltimore comes in. I run an exchange. I'm not a salesguy. I don't have the time to teach charities about BTC and how to get USD from it. I know that Bitcoin Baltimore does.

Is there someone who can give them a call and speak to them about getting set up with coinbase or bitpay or another service to allow them to accept BTC donations? Catherine, their director, seemed very excited to hear about it.

Her name is Catherine, and she is the Executive Director of the Assistance Center of Towson Churches. www.actconline.info

Anything you could do to help would be fantastic.

Thanks a ton.
------------------

So - all that being said - the first thing I'd like to address. I notice that you state SECULAR charities. ACTC is affiliated with 48 churches in the Towson area - the churches donate food, and send needy families to ACTC for assistance. They are not religious in the sense that they are sponsored by or lead by any church. They are just affiliated with them. I'm pleading this case not because I'm christian and want to help (I am in fact a libertarian atheist - you do what you want - just don't hurt other people) and would hate to see such a great organization not be able to benefit from your assistance.

How do I add the wallet address to my address book? - I like to top up the wallet directly from a paper wallet but I can't add my own address so I have to create a QR code of the address separately and scan that in order to top up the wallet.

As Jan said, just select "Address Book" and swipe to the left for a full list of your own addresses. I didn't even know that feature was there before, since it doesn't look very obvious Tongue

the ability to reorder the addresses in the list would be very nice

Agreed, and it's on our to do list.
995  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: February 23, 2014, 04:50:11 AM
Time for another *cough-semi-cough* weekly Mycelium feature demo, as well as update on what's going on behind the scenes!

Setting up a Watch-Only address in Mycelium:

First, make sure that you have enabled Expert Mode in Mycelium by going to Settings in the drop-down menu from the main screen, scrolling down to ADVANCED SETTINGS, and turning on the check box next to "Expert Mode."

This will enable key management in the section to the left of the main screen. To get to it, swipe left-to-right. You can set up a watch-only address in one of two ways.

If the address is not in your wallet yet:

After swiping to the KEYS section of the wallet, find and click the Add Key icon at the top right of the screen

If you have a paper wallet, hit "Scan" and scan only the public key. Or if you can copy/paste the key from your phone, select Clipboard to import it. This will import only the public key, creating a watch-only address. You can tell which addresses in your wallet have private (spendable) keys and which do not by the key icon next to the address. As you can see, the key imported in this example does not have that icon, and thus no bitcoins can be spent from it.

Whether you have Aggregated View enabled or not (more on that next time), simply highlighting the address in the list selects it as the default address, allowing you to receive payments to it (note the "Send" button is now missing).

If you already have a bitcoin address in your wallet, and want to make it a Watch-Only address:

(MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF THE PRIVATE KEY SOMEWHERE BEFORE PROCEEDING)

In the list of keys, find the address you wish to make Watch-Only, and highlight it. The bar at the top will change to blue, adding options such as Label and Archive. This also changes the functionality of the dropdown menu (the three vertical dots). Click the dropdown menu, and select Delete

In the menu that pops up, asking if you wish to delete the private key, turn on the checkbox for "Keep as read-only..."

Once you click Yes, and confirm, the address's private key will be deleted, and you will be left with only a watch-only address, which you can select as the default receiving address in the same way as in instructions above.

This option allows you to add addresses you wish to keep an eye on to keep track of balances, carry secure addresses to receive payments on that you don't want to get stolen, or even do things like allowing waiters and sales staff to accept payments from customers on multiple devices, without worrying about any of them having direct access to the received funds (yes, we're discussing about future POS options too).

Now, for the Things We're Working On Now updates:

The next release will include pricing sources from Bitstamp, BTC-E, Kraken, BTC China, Coinbase, and Bitpay. These have been added to the beta version, and are undergoing testing. Note, MtGox is now gone (apologies to those who will miss it). For now, we believe having it there will only confuse newbies.
Message signing has been added and is undergoing testing as well.
We've added Hebrew, French, and Korean translations.
Finally, exchange rates will be MUCH faster at showing up and refreshing, thanks to an upgrade to our servers on the back end.

Progress on Local Trader is also progressing nicely, with Jan and Andreas working diligently on it, and we still expect to have the beta version out some time within a week. HD Wallets (BIP32) is another major feature that has been heavily requested (not just in Mycelium), and last week Jan and Andreas spent most of one of the Berlin Conference days discussing how to implement and standardize it with the head developers of other major wallets. So, there is definite progress on this, though the most we can promise at this point is that it will be implemented "at some time." Hopefully soon.

As usual, if you want to see any features added, or have any concerns or questions, please let us know!

(This message added to Reddit as well. Please help by upvoting)

I still can't find the word bitcoin anywhere in the site, except in the Bitcoin page, which you can't reach without having a been provided a link.

RBE is just free market capitalism, but with votes instead of money as a demand signal. Plus maybe some totalitarianism and Big Brother type stuff.
