What do the Wall St Observer guys think of this?

https://medium.com/@super.crypto1/4th-dimension-bitcoin-manipulation-cartel-can-it-be-burnt-no-way-c53de65c166a

Bitcoin being suppressed by cartel

Interesting narrative but I'm not sure bitcoin price and sentiment will ultimately be held back by futures and the likes of things which are not bitcoin and just like the community rejected bcash as the one true coin,  we will not settle for less than controlling private keys. It's part of the attractive fundamentals don't ya know.  And I think it's highly unlikely that bitcoin could be tamed like this while its usefulness continues to grow with today's power struggles.  Probably well written FUD is my guess.

So we've had a quadruple bottom in the 6000-5700 range since the ATH.

Who else (beside me) is still unconvinced this is a solid support?

I'm not convinced of a bottom yet but I'm playing it as such so I won't be missing out completely. Anything in the 5k range feels rather cheap and I've got larger buy orders set around 5700. I'm not certain we'd be able to break below 5k easily and my bet is a 5200 hard bottom.

sometimes i do like to go in my ZEN modus when i'm into mood and look to the near future .....

future talks crypto !!! just keep that on mind  Grin

I wanna see $50,000 per coin & then I’ll never have to do another single days work EVER & nor will my kids if I have any.

Pleeeeaaasssseeeeee crypto God’s, make $50,000 per coin a reality.

But 20k per coin won't do it or even @ 6k?  Hmmm..... Sounds like you won't be cashing out at 50 either when it arrives. But very good for you sir if you have enough to retire!

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!
This was my main hurdle and concern in the very beginning.  No doubt there is manipulation, really super BIG entities, market makers, or however you'd like to call it. This is the reality of being involved with bitcoin at such early stages (wild west?)  But make no mistake, we are all here (market makers included) for the very real possibility that bitcoin will grow because of sound fundamentals,  and a growing desire/need for a sovern currency free of QE and inflation. If market makers didn't believe in any of this, they'd have left long ago on a pump, never to return.
I feel life's too short to not be part of this very rare opportunity and I'm content being among the big players who can move the markets. I will mitigate my risk by choosing not to trade on shady exchanges like bitfinex or simply not trading at all.
Those who are short term gambling the market or here just to make a buck are the ones targeted by the market makers. So in essence, if you've got time, HODL is likely the best option.

Thanks, yes, nice read and stats. Do we really expect 99m people are waiting to climb on board?

Not sure if it was the bullish sentiment of the article but I've been getting that same feeling as when we left the 4k's about a year ago.  So I'll just say it again.... $6xxx feels cheap as fuck!  I'm considering the decent probability that the bottom is now.

Hy guys,

there where some pricepredictions from some guys for the end of this year ranging from 18k to 50k, so let's see what happens  Grin Smiley

And then there's some guys expecting sub 6K.  Probably safer to include this range also. 3K-50K is a gamble I'd take although I'd prefer a slow and stable increase such as this past week.
1033  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 17, 2018, 04:17:53 AM
Now that regular Joe was introduced to bitcoin over the last 8 months and there's quite a few more waiting to BTFD, I'm expecting up to have the lesser resistance over the coming months.  If we are to drop into the lower 5k ranges, I suspect its going to be violent.

An unsettling and eye-opening Wall Street horror story about Chinese companies, the American stock market, and the opportunistic greed behind the biggest heist you've never heard of.
Lots of parallels to crypto shenanigans

A good doco (well spotted) but you can't help the feeling of deja vu:

Massive corporate fraud to rip off ordinary people and the ones who make the money don't give a shit and don't even think it's doing anything wrong.

It's just 'normal', nothing changes. Business as usual. No one goes to jail.
Yes depressing stuff, but I think bitcoin will eventually bring about an honest business climate again. Reputation will be everything, and con-men and idiots will have nowhere to go, except prison or the woodchipper.

The system lapped up the ICOs (and why not - free money) but they don't like Bicoin yet.  They will when they can fractionally reserve it.  Look further into ICE / Bakkt, they want to find a way.

You do good research, V8.  When you get a moment, check this podcast on what ICE 'may' mean - it's worth a listen:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/why-ice-bakkt-news-makes-some-crypto-investors-nervous/id1347049808?i=1000417570519&mt=2

ICE wont be stopped by the SEC, they own the fucking NYSE (and 22 other exchanges). It might not all be good news they are looking to get into Bitcoin.

And before you say 'Bitcoin can't be in a fractional reserve situation' think again.  Because it actually could.

Um... Like I'll be accepting an IOU piece of paper to represent bitcoin. It was done on metals but I'm not so sure the people are that gullible for the same trick.  Its interesting to see how ICE wants a piece of the pie. They sure as hell wont send my money to anything crypto related as I found out a couple weeks ago while trying. Ha Bullish!

It already happens, though - when you short (as I am sure people here do on occasion), as you 'borrow' Bitcoin to sell.   The Exchange credits or debits accordingly - but the numbers are in a database, no coins are in your personal wallet under your private key.   It's not a big step for an institution to 'lend' coins it has custody over, or lend them twice and for these coins to have more than one owner.  Some exchanges have done this before and some probably still do.  Not all the people want all their bitcoins back at once, so there are always some spare in the cold wallet.

Yes, you or I will always want to have our coins under our own key.  It has always been essential for us to do so.

But other investors would probably rather not.  Institutions can just 'credit your account' with Bitcoin they do not actually have, as banks do with fiat all the time - thus increasing the supply of Bitcoin out there (on paper).  ICE and Bakkt will be custodians of people's coins (how nice of them) and the ability of them to 'use' the coins to make money by rehypothecating them will be part of their business model.

You may not be gullible, but if others accept paper custodianship, then Bitcoins can be rehypothecated and (more) Bitcoins will be bought and sold that do not exist.  ICE are big enough to do this in a much bigger way and the market for Bitcoin may well become just like all the other markets.

And there will be far, far more bitcoins being traded out there than actually exist.

Yet another example of a market for bitcoin that's NOT bitcoin. ETN's? https://www.newsbtc.com/2018/08/16/crypto-markets-rally-as-us-investors-get-exposure-to-bitcoin-etn/

Surely this is a hypothetically scary scenario and we're all familiar how it happened with fiat but we just witnessed exactly this happen with an exchange last week no?  The losses were passed on to customers as I recall.  Since bitcoin has a degree of transparency in audit, if the people ever get whiff of far, far more fakecoin being traded it would create a run on the exchanges and the shady players would be outed.  I think futures are the first attempt at exploring this scenario.  I say let them try. I believe this will inevitably only reinforce one of the key fundamentals of BTC Its TRUST-LESS!  No doubt there may be many fooled along the way until this is understood.

Do our overlords need more blood?

BTC teetering at 6k, ETH @ 250 and LTC @ 50  Such round numbers Roll Eyes Such an ambiguous place to make decisions but I'm sure "the market" will move away from whatever the majority choose.  HODL = down, SODL = up, BTFD = moar down

All the coins have been slammed down to the previous liftoff points to just before the majority of Joe public got involved late last year.
Pretty much anyone who bought and held November onward is underwater.    So maybe it is done?  A hodler does not care because they understand  fundamentals.    I feel sorry for those that came simply to chase dollars and I hope an education is left in the place of those dollars.

Someone else’s goose is cooked.  Bitmain has received $US450 million in funding from investors including Sequoia, GIC, and IDG Capital.

Wouldn't mind seeing their investments burn to the ground.
Pretty sure they're already rekt and praying for one last pump.

Let's all hit the 'buy' button at exactly the same time, k? Short squeeze on 3.

And a 1... and a 2... and THREE! GO!

Let's all set buy orders at our chosen price point between $5,750 and $5,850, and let's all attempt to buy at least .25 BTC (alternatively attempt to buy at least .1BTC).  I am able to comply with the buying at least .25 BTC in that price range.

If you can buy more, then GREAT, but buy as much as you feel comfortable, even if the amount happens to be less than .1BTC....

I suppose even .01BTC would help, too, if we all "chip in" together.   Wink

My orders are set but even if we all "chip in", I don't think we have a chance to control any price action against TPTB.  I woulda thought that the surge from Turkey might have an impact on price but even that's not playing out very obviously.
