This was an interesting podcast with the head of OTC at Kraken, Nelson Minier and host Peter McCormack.
They talk about his shift from wall street to Kraken,  who buying OTC what its like, how much and how scarcity is starting to be realized in the markets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRXM3om6fa4

It dawned on me that perhaps there's a Bitcoin shortage in the market below 10K right now. Maybe whales need to drop prices to bring miner coins back to the market.

Tesla unveiled the new cybertruck just now.
Some very cool features but absolutely hideous. I really thought it was a joke at first.

Love the new hat, one of your best!

Thank you very much Icygreen.  I just find images to stick on hats though; most of the credit should go to KC Green as he is the genius behind "This is fine".  He monetizes it here <--- not an affiliate link

Too humble bro, you deserve credit.
Yes, we know they aren't your original images but its 100% your good attitude, generosity and creativity we support.

Oh shit your right!

One Day left.
Come on HOMER!
You're welcome to use this image.

485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Advice on Raspberry pi hardware for running full BTC node on: November 21, 2019, 09:18:07 PM
Hello everyone,

this is my new post on this forum and I didn't want to start a new topic. I am also looking to learn to run a Full Node and connect it to Coldcard + Wassabi (in the future) and all of this is new to me. I was researching a lot last couple of days but found the best information in this thread. So in short I just wanted to as you guys about opinion:

Since I'm new to RPi and to putting my hardware together as well as running Bitcoin Core and Linux in general (yes, I've been living under the rock..  Grin ) wouldn't it be easier for newbie like me to:

- Download Bitcoin Core to my spare laptop ( i5, 8Gb RAM, SSD drive) and set blockchain to sync on external SSD
- Learn Linux (i was planning to do a course on this anyway)
- Then wait for stable version of new RPi and buy components (I've already looked into that so I know what I need) and learn to set it up there (preferably running over TOR?)
- Set the blockchain directory on RPi to that external SSD I've downloaded it on my laptop
- Enjoy compact size Full Node running 24/7 and then learn to use command line / SSH to broadcast transactions from my ledger to a multisig guarded by Cold Card (prefferably going throu Wassabi first for annonimity)?

Interested in your opinions. If this is wrong place I'm sorry, I'll post it somewhere else.

Cheers!

(all of this is what I've learned on Twitter, I've been lurking in this space for a while but never on this forum. Forgive me if those questions are super dumb)

Welcome! Indeed, this is a perfect place to start. I'm in a very similar position to learning these things and would appreciate your shared experience in this.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

How is it that dips and pumps never fail to wake me from sleep? Took the opportunity to throw in the last of the sacrificial fiat.
I fully expect bears try to break the long term trend although I doubt they'd be successful (for long)

Unless you've got the discipline and methodology of a JJG ladder, a long term hodl is likely to be the only winning move.
Euphoric days are ahead for those who correctly manage their days of fear.

I moved Bitcoin core to another device at 64% and the HD is now reporting errors on two machines. Errors also on Bitcoin core asking to rebuild the database. I can still access my HD. Sigh... I guess that means either the data or HD or both are corrupt? Letting core repair just starts the sync again from the beginning.  Cry

Lets ask Andreas  Wink

Citing Andreas Antonopolous as a Bitcoin expert is the ultimate noob indicator.  Nobody working on Bitcoin even respects him.
LOL,
If there was one Bitcoin expert to follow over the years, it is indeed Andreas Antonopolous. A solid reputation earned. Anyone can listen to this man and see his authenticity, moral, & deep knowledge/ understanding of Bitcoin.

Guys, I've been reading this crazy stuff posted by someone called "Shelby Moore" (whose messages were recently re-posted in the WO thread by user THX 1138), about how all coins held in SegWit addresses will be donated to miners, as they are free-to-spend coins in the legacy (pre-SegWit) blockchain, and only the coins held in legacy addresses will stay intact and belonging to their owners (private key holders). Supposedly, this attack will occur near the 2020 Halving event and will wreak havoc, resulting in the legacy chain being resurrected from the dead and becoming the dominant one, and the SegWit chain disintegrating into oblivion and causing a massive BTC price drop to near-zero.

What do you make of this?

Some more Qs:

1. Is it possible to move any of our coins held in SegWit addresses to legacy addresses (so that they would belong to the legacy chain if the above attack does happen)? Does the fact that, at some point in their history, those coins were held in SegWit addresses, taint them in any way? Would they still be considered as fully belonging to the legacy chain once moved to legacy addresses?

2. Would you do it? Do you think it's worth it?

3. Do these questions even make any sense?

4. Am I wasting my time with all this?

Thanks for any insights.

What do you make of this? Early halving FUD, expect much more as we get closer.

Some more Qs:

1. Is it possible to move any of our coins held in SegWit addresses to legacy addresses?  Yes, easy peasy lemon squeezy

2. Would you do it? Do you think it's worth it? No, its FUD

3. Do these questions even make any sense? I'm confused  Wink

4. Am I wasting my time with all this? If you're worried about it, of course not.

Observing $8,130.

Is it just me or does anybody else think that the ever increasingly obvious support at $8,000 is really bullish. We certainly don’t look like falling under $8,000 soon.

$7200 real street price to cash out...  Cool  reeeeee

Possibly starting to understand this portion of your avatar?

The amount of FUD out there is ridiculous right now. Do people forget how much has changed in one year?!? A year ago we still had not even reached $3100. We went on a run from $3100 to $13900 starting in April to June (A 3 month span)which we hit 5 months ago........5 months. So even if we are in some sort of new bear market, we are ALREADY five months into it......the last one lasted a full year. I don't think we are in a bear market by any means, I think within 6 months we will be in a bullish environment, and in a year from now we will be above $13900, and perhaps $20,000.
You might want to check your time frames again, I think you mean 2 years ago. But yes, pretty incredible.  Whoda thunk?

Not that BTC needs any reason to dip but this is as good as any.

Mimblewimble’s privacy is fundamentally flawed. Using only $60/week of AWS spend, I was able to uncover the exact addresses of senders and recipients for 96% Grin transactions in real time.
The problem is inherent to Mimblewimble, and I don’t believe there’s a way to fix it. This means Mimblewimble should no longer be considered a viable alternative to Zcash or Monero when it comes to privacy.

TL no link clicky, Mimblewimble is supposedly dead  Cry

Good thing that Mimblewimble and BTC are not the same thing.  In other words, fuck that shit coin.   Tongue Tongue
As I understand, mimblewinble is not a coin but privacy developments which were interesting as it related to Bitcoin's development and likely to be on a prudent speculator's radar no?  Especially considering Bitcoin's privacy design?

Edit: Thanks for the link @rdbase  snicker, mimblewimble.  Bunch of candy bar eating nerds making these up?  Grin

Can use Opera Browser. They have built-in VPN. Smiley
Yes, Opera browser uses a free VPN service, try this first if you need free.

Otherwise, Mullvad is excellent, I'll tell you why.

They are truly anonymous meaning you do not even need to register an account and they do not keep traffic history, they use openvpn which is opensource, they accept Bitcoin as payment, plenty of locations worldwide to switch between, fast for downloading or streaming, active developers and releases come once a month, lastly they are inexpensive! About ~ $80 USD per year.  https://mullvad.net/en/

~snip~
I've got no sMerits left as of now; so in return, I can only offer free kisses and hugs.

Hey Bob, thanks for pumping my Merit! I usually run out of sMerit very quickly because of my bad habit of throwing one to every post that makes me smile. However, I'll try to use these sMerits very carefully and not waste any of them!

But damn then Mic’s there to make you smile.......................... meh, no inspiration at this time and my spinning lesson is about to start
Nice

I'm pretty sure he meant this  Wink

499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: One solid reason that I came across for the need of BitCoins. <Be Your own Bank> on: November 17, 2019, 06:20:27 PM
In America there's something called "Civil asset forfeiture".  This is where the normal police can legally take any assets they please, house, car, money, jewelry etc. They only need to have suspicion that it's helping aid a crime.  Many victims have reportedly been innocent of accused crimes and did not get their property back. Bitcoin will find its way to adoption based on need rather than convenience.
