Could someone with a Mac download and try the new Electrum wallet for Mac?
https://cryptap.us/uno/electrum/

If it works like the Windows version it should make the Mac users very happy. It disintermediates users from conf files and all of that other stuff they don't want to see.

Gekko, good to see you still have an interest in Uno.

Nat, my only issue with CF is their demand that I trust them without any hard evidence. Thats rumor mongering, not journalism. They may be right, but how I can judge that?

IMZ, to be fair I don't think Un is the 2nd strongest blockchain (yet). We're strong, but I'm pretty sure NMC, IXC, DVC are ahead of us in total hash.

Unobtanium Electrum wallet:  anyone struggling to download the Uno blockchain or having problems connecting to peers, you gotta try this. Its fabulous. I'll be updating the op and website soon to include it as a wallet option.  I have now sent and received coins through Uno Electrum and it works exactly as Bitcion Electrum.  Your keys are private - you can control them and restore them.  It works just a regular Uno wallet, except you don't need to download the blockchain. If your computer crashes, you can restore your wallet from the electrum server. Really a sweet service to have for the community.

Good things happening, guys. Make your own decisions, but I am acummulating here.
1283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Cryptsy wallet slowly draining. on: October 07, 2015, 11:29:04 AM
The Cryptsy wallet is draining over time.
In January, 2015 there was 46,000 Un there.

Today there is 35,000 Un there, a 24% decline already in 2015.
1284  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Bitcoin Rush to mention Unobtanium! on: October 07, 2015, 01:43:50 AM
Our old friend Rush at Bitcoin Rush wants to talk about Uno! Watch his channel!

Damn. We need a promo video!  Do we have any talent in the audience?  All I have are clown videos and I don't think he's quite appropriate for Bicoin Rush.

Secure off-line storage and air-gapped transaction signing using Electrum:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQumISxkJsQ

Kind of a poor quality video but I thought this might be useful for folks interested in securely storing coins (or looking for a place other than an exchange). Potentially a more convenient method than paper wallets.

Get electrum here:

https://cryptap.us/uno/electrum
...
Also: would an electrum server run ok on a Digital Ocean droplet?  I will pay for for one if I can figure out how to set it up. Once again my Linux retardedness reveals its head.
...
Yes, DO would work fine. I would suggest Ubuntu LTS or debian (slightly more steep learning curve). There are a few good reasons to setup an electrum server:

1) You will be running a full unobtaniumd node which will help the network in general (as long as you have your p2p port open / don't firewall it / allow connections).
2) More electrum servers mean a more robust electrum network and will increase privacy in the client.
3) In case I disappear the electrum network will remain.

It is not without it's challenges though, you'll need to stay on top of keeping your node up to date with forks, security, etc. If you do run a server please let me know by submitting a pull request to electrum-uno: lib/network.py (see DEFAULT_SERVERS), or just ping me and I'll add it to the client.

My only suggestion:  hard code the addys for the dice games so I don't have to manually copy & paste them from http://cryptap.us/uno/dice

Lets keep an eye on the big wallets over the next week or so.

Again, for the record: Rich list as Midnight UTC 7 October 2015.

I don't think Cryptsy will end in a disorderly closing (says the guy who nearly lost nearly 500 un on MintPal).
I'm not saying there is no cause for alarm, but I will point out that the situation so far is very different than Coin-ex and MintPal.

Yes, keeping your spare Uno in a backed up wallet is the only (mostly) safe way to store it, and Cryptapus' Electrum wallet for Uno is a ~fantastic~ service for this community. It is never a bad idea to keep your Uno safe off exchanges, but do try to set aside a small % of your Uno for trading so that markets can remain liquid.

If Cryptsy goes down, UNO will continue on other exchanges. It will NOT be one of the coins that dies off. We've worked hard to retain Bittrex, and cultivate Crypopia and Bleutrade.

If 18% of the total coinage is lost, then the remaining 82% will become that much more rare and valuable.

I'm rooting for Cryptsy to get through this. I've never had any particular cause to hate on them, other than a few delayed transactions that eventually were delivered. So far, all CoinFire has offered is rumor and innuendo.  That the entire US Government financial regulatory apparatus would single out CoinFire as a go-to org for leaking these kinds of docs leaves me incredulous and skeptical. I need more than Coinfire's say so before I turn against an exchange that has served Uno well.

Holy shit FK! That's a lot of coinage, I hope you did some extensive testing first. I mean, it probably works and Cryptapus knows what he's doing but we're some of the first people to use it. I guess if something goes wrong it's still probably recoverable from the seed.
yeah, about that.  The display is set to gm.  That's really just 1 Uno.   Grin I like how it looks tho.

Electrum is my favorite Bitcoin client. This will be a really easy way for people to connect to their Uno, especially those who are struggling with connecting to nodes.
Having reliable electrum servers on the Uno network will be good for traditional clients.

I'm setting this up today. Yep! Looks like Electrum alright!

I'm not finding any connections, though. Is there a place I can set a specific electrum-uno server?
Nevermind, it found the servers and connected.

In the past 5 hours 819 Uno has been drained from Cryptsy.  Still a long way to go, though.

random fyi observation: supply will go over 196,000 Uno today.

random speculation: I hope there will not be a run on Cryptsy's funds.
This would be a totally different backend situation than we saw with Coin-ex and Minpal, where the btc was stolen.  There is no allegation that Cryptsys funds have been misued or fractionalized, and so there should be enough coin to fund withdrawals.

Coinfire has been inactive for 4 months though, would they really just come back with a giant fabricated story? It seems strangely detailed to be fabricated as well.

It may be proven to be true, but I am skeptical of anything CoinFire publishes. CoinFire has been hacked before, they lean toward sensationalism, they seem to have axe to grind with Cryptsy, and their sources are sketchy at best. I wish it had been ANY other bitcoin industry publication than CoinFire.

Go, Falling Knife, RDD Rocket, and Bitcoin Charlie!

F.K., will read the Maza Coin text.

RDD and B.C., 1 Uno sent to each of you to test the androids. Enjoy.
Sent back to you to test. I'm really satisfied with this Android wallet. It's great!

Yeah, this is the most time I've spent with it. It's really a great app.

Get it for Android.

A lot of great things have happened for UNO in the last year, and the Android wallet was one of them.  I'm super excited about what awaits for Uno in 2016.
Uno keeps moving ahead.

I sent you .5 Un, Charlie, just cuz that's all I had in the Android wallet.
Don't send it back. Instead, go play dice at Cryptap.us/uno/dice until you lose it all. Smiley

Been reading the MazaCoin website front page. A lot of wisdom shared here as they have earnestly tried to engage with tribal members on the adoption of Mazacoin. Will perhaps summarize later. https://mazacoin.org/

DOGE and LTC are both Scrypt algorithm which is more memory intensive than BTC/UNO's Sha256 algo. There have been scrypt asics for a year, but they are less efficient than sha256 asics.

At the end of the day, every coin vulnerable to a 51% attack. All you need is enough hash.

UNO's network is more secure today than it's ever been.
1297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Merge Mine w/BTC! on: October 03, 2015, 04:39:16 PM
Mark drew my attention to this post on /r/Doge
https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/3na85t/how_you_see_the_future_for_dogecoin
where the discuss Uno and its relatively low hashrate compared to Bitcoin.

I think we hashed this out as a community before implementing merged mining. The point being made seems to be that somehow, Uno is now more vulnerable because of merge mining. Someone can now attack Uno without losing the opportunity cost of mining Bitcoin.

In consideration, I do believe it is better for UNO now that there is a threshold. You must now be "this tall" to attack the Uno network. Not long ago, it would have been possible to take over our network with just 30ths of hash. I know guys who can do that out of their garage. Many, many individual miners could put up that kind of hash and the hash is getting cheaper by the day. Assuming our network consists of 1 phs of honest miners (which on a good day it does), and now a bad miner wanted to take over the network, he would need to muscle in by putting around 1.1phs of his own hash to capture more than 50% of the power. Yes, there are individual pools that could do that. But if it is currently not worth the effort for some miners to start merge mining Uno, why would it be worth the effort to attack Uno?

This is all hypothetical, and of course on a bad day there are pools on the Bitcoin network that can (and have in the past) capture 51% of that network. It's always a concern for any coin. When Uno becomes more valuable, the miners will undoubtedly add Uno. But our present hash rate is MUCH more secure than it has been, and it appears well distributed. We're much stronger than low hash coins like Zeta, who are more susceptible to interference from a much larger overall pool of small actors.

As has always been the case, the best way to get people interested in mining Uno is to pay them. In the "old days," pre-MM, you could easy raise the hashrate of Uno by simply buying up the price of Uno on Cryptsy; hash would automatically switch over to mining Uno thanks to profitability algos over at Coinwarz and others. We would see dramatic spikes and declines in hash and difficulty.  Since merge mining with Bitcoin, hash is fairly steady in the 1phs range.

That said, I WOULD love it if we as a community could continue to reach out to new bitcoin miners. Though I am grateful for our present hash, and it's a huge improvement over what we had, the uptake has been comparatively low to the overall Bitcoin network I would love to see Uno double (or more) its hash. I was invited by Slush's Pool to contact them again in Nov, which I will do. They had recently implemented MM, and they wanted to gain more experience with it. I'll certainly make the case. But meanwhile, if you are a miner and have any pull or contacts with the large pools that do MM, please get in touch with me.

Also remember that there is another halving coming up in December. Now would be the most opportune time to reach out again to pools. This work only gets harder as the reward halves.
