1301  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Verifying a fake/genuine Ledger Nano S on: May 11, 2019, 02:20:00 PM
erikalui, on what OS you are doing this update? When I try to update on Windows 7 it also stuck, but then I just try to finish update on Windows 10, and it take a minute or something like that to process become completed.

You do not have to worry too much about new updates, firmware is not something that is updating so often, once or maybe twice in a year in case of Ledger. I'm a little surprised that Nano S you get from that competition came with old firmware, version 1.5.5 is released on January 16 2019, so this device is from some old stock.

I am using Windows 10. I disconnected the ledger device and then reconnected it after pressing Update and it was stuck on bootloader for like 3 hours. As per Reddit and Ledger instructions, I shut down Ledger live, disconnected Ledger, then clicked Repair but nothing happened and then I had to install the Chrome app after which it showed "Update". It took a minute then to update. I checked online and noticed people saying it takes 30 mins for Ledger Manager to open when servers are busy.

I got the device in March 2018 while I started using it recently. Was busy relocating so did not get time to start it. The firmware I guess was 1.3.3 version, not sure.
1302  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Verifying a fake/genuine Ledger Nano S on: May 11, 2019, 05:10:18 AM
Did you try the solutions listed on the Ledger support pages? refer: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003117594-Troubleshoot-firmware-update

I fixed it after 3 hours of struggle but not by following instructions on ledger support website but on reddit. Reddit user said to install the chrome app and I did it using the link given on the ledger website. It suddenly worked and "update" appeared instead of "bootloader". I am tired of Ledger in just a week as everytime I would need to struggle after every update.
1303  Local / India / Re: List of exchanges in India [updated] on: May 10, 2019, 07:25:44 PM
Unocoin has fired half their staff members as they can't afford to pay them and I doubt that they will continue their services as the trading volume is low and Bitcoins are being sold for 1 lac less than the market rate.

I was shocked to see Zebpay now has become an international exchange. I last heard it was shutting down and hence I uninstalled the app.

I was pretty sure Zebpay will re-enter the Global market after they were forced to exit Indian market. They registered as a new company in some other country (Malta I guess) and it clearly showed their upcoming strategy. However, I was upset that Zebpay completely forgotten Indian market. They should have remained associated, at least as an alternative P2P network.
I uninstalled the app too. But it was useless for us anyway.

They just gave up and now are supporting mostly EU countries but many countries have not even declared crypto legal so they are again taking a risk of relocating. I had just registered in April-May 2018 and had completed KYC and when the circular was released, I gave up on using Zebpay.
1304  Economy / Services / Re: Stake.com - A signature campaign for everyone! Earn up to 0.1 BTC weekly on: May 10, 2019, 07:22:40 PM
^^Admin replied that payment link is active only for 7 days and users need to claim during that period only. I feel these instructions should be given in the OP as even I was not aware of any such payment link requirement and did not even know that I was added in the telegram group. Had to figure it out all by myself.
1305  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Verifying a fake/genuine Ledger Nano S on: May 10, 2019, 07:14:52 PM
Now I have a new problem. I tried to update the firmware to 1.5.5 and then my internet connection got disconnected. After connecting it again, the device is stuck on Bootloader and my manager is stuck on "Navigate to dashboard on your device". I tried mostly all the solutions given on reddit but nothing helped. I am lost Sad

No email till now. They said they'll distribute it throughout the week but now already 5 days have passed. First waiting 2 weeks for token distribution and now waiting for the email.
1307  Other / Meta / Re: Login in the forum using your Finger Print on: May 10, 2019, 01:21:03 PM
One thing would stop is fingerprint technology would be used that account sales would stop. It should only be used as an identifier and not password as last month only somebody was able to trick Samsung's device by inserting a fake password and he managed to unlock the device everytime without having to use his own fingerprint. Fingerprints can't be changed by the hacker but but can be copied. For exchanges, this could be useful too.
1308  Other / Off-topic / Re: Kids Take After Their Mum's Intelligence on: May 10, 2019, 12:24:11 PM
Yes, I also read about it here: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/children-intelligence-iq-mother-inherit-inheritance-genetics-genes-a7345596.html

But they still said that about 40%-60% is related to the genes and if fathers keep taking efforts of teaching their kids, the kid's intelligence can be influenced.
Oh, thanks for the article. I never knew of that link. I had to read the voluminous textbook on Child Psychology for that little insight a few years ago.

Are you a father too?

No, I'm not married Cheesy

I have read that even behavior traits are inherited from parents but it's not certain whether the mother or father has influence on the child. My father never took any interest in my studies and he was not good in studies while my mom was good and I am too so I am a proof that it's true Smiley
1309  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do We Really Want a More Decentralized Version of Facebook? on: May 10, 2019, 11:14:41 AM
When Facebook is centralized, we can see so many people abusing it so why do we need a decentralized version? People post death threats, abuses, spread false curfue rumors and some users have posted their suicide video on Facebook. They couldn't manage controlling these issues so I can just imagine what will happen when people have freedom of speech. Just because some famous people were banned, it doesn't sound logical and it's not even possible to have a decentralized social media website. Government will be first to ban it.
1310  Other / Meta / Re: Banappeal for my account on: May 10, 2019, 08:48:20 AM
You did not get banned for the Hindi translation topic but as I can check in the modlog: https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php your 5 posts were deleted. Just search for your username: 1136275 and seems like you copy pasted the English content from the ANN topic and posted in your translation topic as it is instead of translating the content.

See this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2496382.msg26593644#msg26593644
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2557884.msg27848833#msg27848833

Those posts got deleted for these reasons.

I can see many users got banned for similar reasons as posting content (even in the form of updates) without any reference link as your own content is termed as plagiarism. These posts may be old but mods have noticed it now.
1311  Local / Off-Topic (India) / Trains arriving late on: May 10, 2019, 08:24:23 AM
I don't usually travel by trains due to the crowd and living in a city like Mumbai, train services are the worst as the population is too much. Recently I need to use passenger and express trains and I noticed these trains come 1-2 hours late which is frustrating. Western line trains have a delay or max 20 mins but why are passenger and express trains getting delayed by hours? I sometimes feel they should be fined for making people wait for hours on the platform and not value our time. There are people who work and travel by these trains but using these trains make them reach late for work. I can understand buses arriving late but why trains? Also luggage trains use the same lines as normal passenger trains which causes even further delays.

They say bullet train will be launched soon but I am sure this train also will arrive later than expected as nothing in India arrives on time.
1312  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: calculating fees to purchase BTC to match USD on: May 10, 2019, 07:40:39 AM
In your case, as per your need you wish to ask more as you are offering USD via moneygram or WU and it should incur all the expenses and make it clear to the buyer (who is selling you BTC). I am not sure of the commuting costs and so on so you might want to add $50 extra which means $500 worth BTC for your USD and calculate the price using preev.com. Since these payment methods can be reversed and BTC is irreversible, you could find trouble in getting buyers but you could try.

My advise is BTC's price currently is increasing so even accepting $53 less would be profitable for you as you'll eventually get the amount in a day or two. You can check now that 0.06618674 BTC is already $418.
1313  Local / India / Re: List of exchanges in India [updated] on: May 10, 2019, 07:29:13 AM
Yes you are right but I think Unocoin suits everyone more like a wallet because I don't think most of the people really like it's trading platform. More popular exchanges are Koinex which is working because of its Koinex Loop. WazirX which has introduced P2P which is working pretty well by placing a set of buy and sell orders in USDT. Bitbns which is also working on a queue P2P system to bring depositors and with-drawers on board together. Although I think WazirX is best in terms of fair pricing to the international market unlike most of the others.

Unocoin has fired half their staff members as they can't afford to pay them and I doubt that they will continue their services as the trading volume is low and Bitcoins are being sold for 1 lac less than the market rate.

1314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After Binance have been compromised. on: May 10, 2019, 07:22:03 AM
Both CEX and DEX have proved equally bad. Exchanges like Etherdelta have been hacked and after Binance, I don't think any exchange can manage to stay safe. Even an exchange like Coinbase is not safe as many users have claimed their accounts have been hacked. Even my country's local exchange has been hacked and because bitcoin transactions cannot be traced, it's not possible to track down the hacker. Has any of the hackers of these exchanges been found? The answer is No and they probably would never be found.
1315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What altcoins do you think will outperform btc in the upcoming crypto summer? on: May 10, 2019, 07:10:25 AM
How can any altcoin outperform BTC when BTC has been in the market for like 10+ years? And BTM some coin even reaches the level of BTC, BTC would have surpassed it. That's why many small investors have not chosen to invest in BTC and have rather invested in ETH. There are some promising coins like XRP, Tether that have made huge profit for the investors but as the market crashed, their price also crashed. I am currently looking out for FX as it's a new coin and may be able to be good for investment.

1317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is for scammers, yea right! on: May 10, 2019, 06:35:16 AM
What can you do when lawyers, judges and even police tells you that crypto is used for illegal purposes? I was scammed and then told to forget about my money because I was dealing in bitcoins which cannot be traced. The scammer gave a fraudulent contact number but still the police did not even want to consider it. With such an approach, I don't think bitcoins can ever be considered a trusted currency as anyone can deal in it and giving excuses of fiat money also having loopholes, we can't ignore the risk of dealing in bitcoins.
1318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: What do people think about bounty now? on: May 10, 2019, 06:22:40 AM
Managers are just employees on such project excluded if the team are ones who do handle out such bounty campaign. In result, no matter how reputable or experienced you are
as a manager you cant really assure anytime that you will hit the right project thats why even manager and so as with its participants wont really give assurance to make
some money with bounty hunting nowadays.

I have seen many managers just interested in earning money and don't care about the project they are being a part of. They earn their income in BTC and then don't care to answer any queries of participants and when participants are scammed, they ignore them and move on to another project. Some managers only really take interest in analyzing the project but I have seen that even such project managers have stopped doing it since a year as most projects have turned scam.

1320  Economy / Services / Re: Stake.com - A signature campaign for everyone! Earn up to 0.1 BTC weekly on: May 09, 2019, 12:12:39 PM

FYI: "not yet finished counting" was also last week. 8+ days with no answer, why?

Counting for last week is already over. Are you talking about your approval in the campaign? It shouldn't take so long so kindly contact @StephenStake again via telegram.

should i do it every week ? if yes - what to do if i missed the last few weeks ?

"Here you will find Stake news, streams, Twitter posts and of course our signature daily challenges"
and how to participate in twitter campaign ?

You need to do it every week. I'll just check on what needs to be done if you missed a week.

@Red: You can check it in their telegram groups and even in their announcement thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2072589. They are currently running a reddit contest. AFAIK, there is no twitter campaign. Their Twitter handle is: https://twitter.com/Stake/
