I dunno if I already suggested that, but anyway,
How about Final Fantasy Tactics? (and god not about the FFT A, it sucks, the Judge thing is ridiculous, it removes all the fun of making a strategy)

I really like all the Job Changing thing, and that more than having a job, you have to choose 4 perks to fit better and powerful your characters.

I kind of liked the law system in FFTA... it was a bit random if I remember correctly, but it helped make sure you didn't rely on only one strategy, and added some variety to the game. I suppose the same could have been achieve through better means, but I thought it was cool.

EDIT:

UFO: Enemy Unknown (= the original XCOM) is still one of the best games out there. Careful planning on several levels, suspenseful atmosphere and a completely remorseless game design where you experienced squad can get slaughtered like a bunch of pugs. The flashy new reboot, XCOM Enemy Unknown, is entertaining enough, but lacks the depth of its original.

Yeah, specially if the aliens are using fusion cannons for the first time in that game...   Roll Eyes

I guess you can participate in this round since you will have 50 activity by the time you ask.

On another note, I read somewhere that the activity calculations were updated. Im not sure but assuming the old version is still being used, then its ok.

He may be able to participate, but according to the first post he may not get paid for those posts while he is bellow 50 activity:

EDIT: Due to the great number of complaints about spam bots, we will be restricting the next round (Jan 17th onwards) to users with 50+ activity. Any posts you make while you are under 50 activity will not contribute to your total.

Is that we can always be paid? The offer is still valid?

Yes, you can still join this sig deal. However, payments are on the 17th of each month, and you have to make a minimum of 50 posts per month to be paid.
3304  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 31, 2014, 11:06:47 PM
The idea of giving people more responsibility is quite popular, so it's not just me and the others here. Why not empower the socially dependent in society to be able to live in a way with the minimum of help? This is a very common thing you hear from people with physical disabilities; they value the freedom to be able to live as independent a life as they can.

I'd like to see the focus being on improving everyone's ability to choose, and giving them free choice. That atmosphere would be more inspiring, more conducive to the kind of freer-thinking that produces innovative ideas.

Choice is the fundamental bedrock of imagination. Restriction and regularising inhibit by nature. Why are some people so against the right to choose?

The problem is not everyone has the same right to choose. The idea of empowering everyone to live as independently as they can is great, but unless you're rich or pretty well off, that's going to backfire. The amount you'd spare by not having an income tax in most cases wouldn't be enough to pay for education, healthcare, and so on.

So, how would you propose those in need actually get the right to choose?
3305  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 31, 2014, 10:17:16 PM

I say you can choose yours, if you let me choose mine. Tolerant.

You say my way won't work. And that it's morally wrong. No-one should be allowed to choose this way. Pretty intolerant.
[...]

But you live within a society, the choice isn't yours alone. Further, those who would benefit most from some form of social safety-net as you put it, are usually those who have the most difficulty making their needs heard.

Sorry for the low budget,

but I really need a design for the poker tables.

can someone help me with that?

You can always try sites like Freelancer and Odesk, and appeal to people starting off work in those fields and looking to build a portfolio.

Does posting addresses in threads like these ever work? I love it.

Usually it works if there is an ongoing promotion, which is no longer the case in this thread.
3308  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much would you pay for an indie game? on: January 29, 2014, 09:56:37 PM
I wouldn't Cheesy

I probably wouldn't either... no time for games lately.  Cry

it's not about the games mostly..

well, I don't have much time either but I don't want to waste money on games as I can get them for free..

it's a crysis over here  Undecided

Can't say I blame you.

But if I was a developer, I'd try to follow other business models if possible, like League of Legends and its ilk.

Hmm, but does this deal require people to actually post on the forum, or does it pay based only on rank (Jr. Member, Member, ... Hero Member)?

Seems you just have to be active but I'm betting people wont get paid out. PP is always fishy,

Yeah, btc payments with escrow would be the best way to go. I don't usually post much, so if spyro were to do that, this sig deal would probably be more profitable for me.

so I get payed for posting  Shocked

Well, at least once you reach 50 activity... though there are other deals without that limitation.

A small update to the story: http://torrentfreak.com/mpaa-google-glass-is-no-threat-but-mobile-phones-are-140125/.

Quote
Soon after the story made headlines all over the world. The MPAA received numerous inquiries from the press and eventually delivered an official response. The movie group said that the whole incident was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and that Google Glass is actually not a significant piracy threat.

“Google Glass is an incredible innovation in the mobile sphere, and we have seen no proof that it is currently a significant threat that could result in content theft,” the MPAA said in a statement.

[...]

“Movie thieves are very ingenious when it comes to concealing cameras. It may be as simple as placing a coat or hat over the camera, or as innovative as a specially designed concealment device (e.g., a small camera built into eyeglass frames or a camera built into the lid of a beverage container),” MPAA warns.

A camera built into eyeglass frames? Doesn’t that sound exactly like Google Glass?

Hey Stunna, Can we post inside the off-topic sub? Thanks!

Yes, the off-topic counts, but are you going to receive payment, given that you have a negative trust score?

Quote
If you are marked a scammer by the community with valid negative trusts with references, you will be denied payment.

What about Master of Orion II, or Space Empires V? Anyone here liked playing these types of games? (turn based strategy games, set in space)

MoO 2 was one of my favorite games for a long time, I might just have to go back and reinstall it!

I've spent way more time playing those games than I care to admit...  Roll Eyes particularly Space Empires, with its huge amount of options and ship components. Grin

xkcd.com is pretty cool. But you should have posted the associated text as well (what shows up when you leave the mouse over the pic):

Quote
'You see the same pattern all over. Take Detroit--' 'Hold on. Why do you know all these statistics offhand?' 'Oh, um, no idea. I definitely spend my evenings hanging out with friends, and not curating a REALLY NEAT database of temperature statistics. Because, pshh, who would want to do that, right? Also, snowfall records.'

And another cool site from the same guy is http://what-if.xkcd.com/Grin

....

If you are so fond of Cook's "ready-made-answers", as you put it, then you should know the answer to that, though it's pretty obvious in the face of it: no one is saying they've looked at every single scientific paper on the subject; the scale of the project would be difficult to tackle. What is being said is that of the papers reviewed that expressed a position in relation to AGW, they were found to be almost unanimously endorsing it (>97%)....

Now, where is your strawman?

Look closely at the syntax and grammar of these two sentences.

(A) 1100+ Peer-Reviewed Papers Supporting Skeptic Arguments Against ACC/AGW Alarm

(B)...of the papers reviewed that expressed a position in relation to AGW, they were found to be almost unanimously endorsing it (>97%)...

No, I still don't see the alleged fallacy. But feel free to make your case, so I can clarify my position.
3320  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: January 24, 2014, 04:43:17 AM
.... the point of Cook's study was specifically "Quantifying the Consensus on Anthropogenic Global Warming in the Scientific Literature"; so, papers that offered other explanations for climate change as being dominant, minimized human contribution to climate change, denied it altogether, or endorsed it were considered. In this sense, it seems to me that the methodology of the study was appropriate and the results valid.

and where's your strawman?  Right in front of you staring at you.

Nope, still don't see any strawman. Care to be more specific?  Tongue

....here I mostly agree with you; insofar as the paper has no bearing on whether or not human activity is responsible for global warming, it should be irrelevant to the study. ....
Actually, the distribution of whale bones on ocean floors is linked to the then-existent temperatures in the Arctic, and as we know the temperatures preferred by those whales, it is a proxy for past temperatures.  Clearly, a conclusion could then be drawn relative to the existence of current warming, whether it was historically unique, or singular; whether it was likely caused by humans.  Further conclusions could be made as to such warmings' effects on the planet, at least for that particular regional eco system.

Yes, and as before, such a paper would still be considered as taking no stance on AGW; it would take more than just being implicitly endorsing global warming for it to be included. You can look up the categories used in Cook's site.

But such speculative inferences would be inappropriate in a scientific paper, and fall more into the position of religious comments or creeds of belief than science.  In actual fact, few scientists even use phraseology such as "global warming" or "anthropogenic global warming (AGW)" and for good reasons.

Don't worry, I don't believe any "religious comments" or "creeds of belief" were included in the study, only proper scientific papers.

Which reminds me: you never got around to explaining how Shollenberger supposedly "discredited his method and his conclusions", given that, as far as I see it, he pretty much ignored the study's methods and made up his own conclusions.

PS:  Yes, I am using examples for which you will not find a ready-made-answer in John Cook's cooking of the books.  I know his production of a website with ready answers for arguing with deniers is tempting.

And since we're having fun here, you'll just love this.

What is being said is that of the papers reviewed that expressed a position in relation to AGW, they were found to be almost unanimously endorsing it (>97%); however, there is no reason to believe that even if you could review all of the scientific literature on the subject, the percentage of papers endorsing AGW would change. But as they put it, you're welcome to try.
