The only way we could win a war to aliens is to act like rats, we would have to bring them to our levels so they can not use their power, the solution could be go underground and then wait for them to come after us, that will be a fair combat, otherwise on the surface they will kill us all instantly without much effort.

Even assuming we can see them coming and have time to prepare, why do you believe going underground will wield a different result? Or for that matter, why do you believe they would need to come after us at all? I think we can all agree that any species capable of interstellar travel will likely be far more advanced; anywhere from a few centuries to millions or even billions of years ahead of us. Can you imagine what humans would be capable of in a few centuries, if we don't kill each other before then? Imagine what they would be able to do, added to the likelihood they would have foreknowledge of human capabilities and weaknesses.

This may be ideal, but there is no real way to achieve this (everyone to be rich enough to be satisfied).

People will always have varying levels of skill levels and work ethic. This would undervalue people who have high skill levels and work ethic while overvaluing people on the opposite side. Generally speaking in order to be satisfied most people would wish to have something above average.

That seems to me to be more a question of education/values than anything else. Personally, I wouldn't care how much I made compared to others, provided I had enough to live and had a work I really liked; I don't think money is necessarily the best incentive.

2723  Economy / Services / Re: Looking to rent Full / Senior / Hero signatures | 0.01 BTC up front on: June 19, 2014, 10:39:12 PM
Can anyone see the catch in this campaign?

A newbie sets up a gambling game where you send bets to a handful of addresses, then later starts a biweekly sig campaign to promote the game. What if the profits from the gambling game cannot cover the campaign payout? What if the campaign brings volume to the game and this newbie decides to vanish in two weeks?

Don't join this unless OP decides to use escrow. The rates aren't that good anyway.

Could you guys take a step back for a bit? He's already saying he'll pay a portion upfront to Senior/Hero Members, saying he will use escrow from a trusted forum member, and is willing to pay twice a month.  Now, of course it's probably a good idea to wait for him to actually decide on the limits of the campaign, and to escrow enough for half a month/one month before considering joining the campaign; but other than that, there really isn't much more anyone can do to prove their good intentions.
2724  Economy / Services / Re: Looking to rent Full / Senior / Hero signatures | 0.01 BTC up front on: June 19, 2014, 09:59:56 PM
Lots of people say they're willing to escrow and then don't, but he'll have to put quite a bit in escrow unless he caps the numbers and limits the amounts of posts or he'll soon go out of budget. Even putting 1btc in escrow probably won't really suffice without some heavy restrictions.

As he said, they haven't decided on what limits will be implemented in the campaign yet:

We probably will close it off once we reach a certain limit.  We haven't decided what that is yet.

And if it happens that he says he's willing to use escrow and then doesn't, that's already a good sign of trouble coming. But until anything close to it happens, there's little point in us going on about it. Tongue
2725  Economy / Services / Re: Looking to rent Full / Senior / Hero signatures | 0.01 BTC up front on: June 19, 2014, 09:53:54 PM
But this guy has zero trust so far so I think getting payments twice a month doesn't really hold much weight, at least in my opinion, but if people want to take that risk for slightly faster payments then go for it. Stunna did mention the possibility of weekly payments too though. And as for slow paying, at least you're guaranteed to get paid. Can't say that for many of these other deals.

Well, ned.ryerson did say he was willing to use the services of an escrow from this forum; it's hard not to consider that a sufficient safeguard.

Also, I doubt PD will switch to weekly payments anytime soon. Between the amount of members in the campaign and the new system not really being fully automated (like Ritz's was for example), it would be far too much trouble to go with anything but monthly payments.
2726  Economy / Services / Re: Looking to rent Full / Senior / Hero signatures on: June 19, 2014, 06:58:33 PM
I'm not sure why people would choose your deal over Stunna's to be honest. You'll probably have to think of ways to better his or the other deals. Why don't you consider one of the fixed rate deals where you pay 0.05 for 50 posts or whatever? You can cap the number of users and know exactly how much to budget for then.

This is better in the sense you get paid a lot quicker, every 2 weeks, not to mention that Primedice is slow paying out (He has 100++ people on his service, fully understandable) anyways.

I would sign up for this except I currently only have member status

Agreed, this being bi-weekly will attract some people; that said, even slightly better rates (and perhaps limiting the number of participants from the beginning, and max number of posts) would go a long way towards making this campaign much more attractive.

I've found four grollls in the list and just one hilariousandco... Cool

I've seen 4 grolll, 3 bcmine, 2 byt411 and 2 marnem. Wink

Still, I'm surprised by there only being this many people enrolled in this campaign; I thought there would be far more by now. On the other hand, perhaps a good amount of participants still hasn't noticed the new rules?

what happened to dank's scammer markings?  was he forgiven by the forum gods or the 'beings of light' or whatever he likes to call them?

They were obsolete, and so were removed in favor of the trust system. You can see the list of changes here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=603586.0.

In the past, especially for "political" articles, you would get 'updates' with 'corrections' weeks, months later. I would copy paste parts of a text but then later to find the link to be broken, changed, etc. The page is something I like to respect visually.  I sometimes only get the headline of the front page for the visual impact and then copy paste the bit for the thread context here. I always include the original link as I rarely copy paste a full article if it is long. I believe people should visit the original links for making them some money and to make their own mind, not believing whatever I decided to copy paste here for my own devious agenda... Grin

Sorry about taxing your allocated bits. I believe you can disable your browser to automatically download any images. Then simply click on the link I would have included to read the full article, text only, making your own mind.

So basically, you're saying I should go back to using Lynx... oh well. Tongue

Anyway, yes, I'm aware of at least the Guardian at times "disappearing" a few politically inconvenient news stories; and I'm sure they aren't the only ones doing it. So, I take it you keep a collection of "interesting news" just in case? Smiley
2730  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: June 19, 2014, 04:07:24 AM
i use chrome and firefox. it depends also to the compatibility of the website. there are some websites that i go in are not compatible. other website requires the use of internet explorer.

There are sites that require you to use internet explorer? Surely, these must be decades old sites. Grin

I mean, if you're into web site creation, I can understand why you would need IE, given its quirky nature and still holding a portion of the market, but other than that, why would anyone need it, unless they don't know any better/are forced to it?

Although 2D and in a beta stage, I prefer Starbound than Minecraft.
[...]

Have you heard of Untold Universe (http://www.untold-universe.com/)? It's still in alpha, but it seems promising: imagine minecraft, with the added possibility of building spaceships and exploring other worlds. Combat is also included, though I don't know about aliens. Smiley

Wilikon, why do you always post a picture of the article you're referring to, instead of including, say, just a quote of the relevant part and a link to the article? Those of us with shitty net speed would appreciate it. Tongue
2733  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 3D printer to be sent to the ISS in August on: June 18, 2014, 10:34:55 PM
I don't think it's mostly true, because even though the per item cost may be less for injection molded plastic items, the consumer had to go out to get them - add driving time and so forth, the part is then much more expensive than if it had just been made in the garage.

Fair enough, but not everyone has a 3d printer in their garage, knowledge of how to operate one, inclination to go through the trouble of learning, or in most cases, even awareness of its existence. We still have a long way to go before this technology is widely used, unfortunately.

These people wouldnt find it easier to make something with injected moulding either. the overhead would be much more than having something made by a 3d print company for a low volume/one off item

The problem is they don't have to find it "easier to make something with injected molding"; most are perfectly happy to pay others to do it for them at the moment. Hopefully that will change as this technology becomes better known, and people start seeing its potential.

I thought 3d printing was still fairly unreliable and could mostly just make layered plastics? I know about the gun and what not but are we actually able to 3d print anything of actual use now? Besides plastic nic nak stuff?

Hmm, is printing houses (http://rt.com/news/155220-3d-printer-houses-china/) and small replacement parts and tools for the ISS good enough for you? Grin (disclaimer: yes, these are still mostly in tests at the moment, and as DavidHume says, some more refinement is needed)

Haha and that wont be obvious scam AT ALL Cheesy LOL . Man if u put his username and ur profile , that will be so easy to detect and ofc it will get u reported to mods , and banned . But again i would love more that we dont need to submit anything , just every 17th it checks ours profile , get post count subtract last months post count and sends the payment . (ah wait i see the problem here) It will be rly hard to subtract non constructive posts he would pay for every post made this way.) So ok , maybe we will steill need to request payment but with only link to profile and post count for that month.

It's natural there will always be a need for verification of what could be spam posts, but that just means the payments can't be automatic; it doesn't imply we necessarily have to fill out the form every month. That's pretty much the system Ritz had, and it worked fine.

Obama is a living proof that anyone can be US president.

Sure anyone can be, provided they bow down and do the bidding of the guys that pay for the campaign.  Tongue
2736  Economy / Economics / Re: Solution to poverty - Socialism or Capitalism? on: June 18, 2014, 07:15:13 PM
Capitalism is like a bandwagon pulled by mighty horses. The rich being the horses that pulls the country forward. Because to get rich, they need a market that has money to buy their products. So they have to create jobs and develop the country if they want to get richer and increase their market.

Trickle down economics? Grin

I don't think anyone seriously believes that anymore. You see, the problem in that is it assumes the market they have to interact with includes a significant portion of the population; but that is most often not the case anymore: look up the term "plutonomy".

Plutonomy on wikipedia:

Quote
Plutonomy (from Greek πλοῦτος, ploutos, meaning "wealth", and νόμος, nomos, meaning "law", a portmanteau of "plutocracy" and "economy") is a term that analysts of Citigroup have used for economies “where economic growth is powered by and largely consumed by the wealthy few.” [1]

Quote
In three reports for Citigroup clients published in 2005 and 2006 a team of Citigroup-analysts elaborated on their thesis that the share of the very rich in national income of plutonomies had become so large that what is going on in these economies and in their relation with other economies cannot be properly understood any more with reference to the average consumer: “The rich are so rich that their behavior – be it negative savings, or just very low consumption of oil as a % of their income – overwhelms that of the ‘average’ consumer.”
2737  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tibu´s legacy, social phenomenom has started on: June 18, 2014, 11:31:33 AM
Well my plan is to transfer 1 BTC to an adresss an publish it. Another option its to publish the price as a item on some bitcoin auction website. Im thinking on it , ideas wellcome.

The social movement its growing at high speed, now in France too , see videos in youtube , search Tibu´s legacy (i think links are considered spam), its my traduction of Legado de Tibu in spanish , some in france called "L'eau ou un resto" (to the water or restaurant).

You can find information searching google for Tibu´s legacy, again im not going to link my website due to ethic.

I think i can´t afford a price of more than 1 BTC, im very poor on the bitcoin world. :-(, anyway there is a youtube video from Spain with more than 130.000 visits and growing .

Judging by the lack of responses here, I take it this isn't very popular in the bitcoin world yet (and to be honest, I wouldn't even have heard of it if not for this thread). Still, this seems to me to be little more than a modern incarnation of chain letters. And this also reminds me of another variant similar to this, that involved people drinking while making ever more outrageous alcohol related challenges to their friends, until a few people died.

In relation to the links, there shouldn't be any problem with posting them, especially since this is the Off-Topic section; at least, I don't think anybody else refrains from doing so. Wink

You're fat, you're so fat you're going to crack, like you logic

I'd say it's because of people like you that this thread isn't as popular as the questions' one. Smiley
2739  Other / Off-topic / Re: spreading bitcoin awareness on: June 18, 2014, 10:41:25 AM
That's pretty cool st4nl3y. Smiley

I guess that at least a few more people will have a closer look into bitcoin. On the other hand, I can't help recalling the trouble I have convincing computer literate people of bitcoin's merits, let alone people that hardly know how to use a computer. Still, every little bit counts, and the "steady" increase in btc's price will be our reward. Cheesy
2740  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: June 18, 2014, 10:07:46 AM
I've been using Mozilla Firefox for ages now, but to be honest, it seems more memory/resource-heavy than it used to be. Or maybe I am visiting more resource-heavy web pages.... anyway, probably about time I should try out Chrome, from the sound of it.
How can people be so stupid to put speed over security?

A lot of people simply don't care about it; until they're directly affect, of course. Then there are those that think there is nothing they can really do about it and that they're going to be spied on either way, so they might as well go along with it... I mean, at least with google it's just for ads, right? [/s] Roll Eyes
