life,fire

I think it's safe to say that those events are older than 200 years. Grin (remember, the OP asked for something from the 19th century onward)

at least in more recent times, i'd say in 1998 when congress removed the glass-steagall act. it opened the doors for bankers and wallstreeters to exploit our economy. bill clinton had a big role in this.. too bad the republicans can't really go after him on this, since they are in bed with the bankers.

A small correction if you don't mind: bankers, particularly those in higher positions, should now be referred to as banksters (from banker + gangster). Tongue
2863  Other / Off-topic / Re: When will the USA go to WAR? on: May 28, 2014, 07:18:55 PM
Well, that one would last about a day and a half.

One day to strategise, a few hours for coffee and breakfast, three hours to destroy the entire Mexican military and take out the government; all done by lunchtime.

It won't be that simple. Imagine the American marines fighting in Mexico against all those drug cartels (Sinaloa cartel, Los Zetas.etc). The last time I heard, the drug cartels alone were having more than 200,000 soldiers. Also, some of the American states (such as New Mexico) are having an absolute Mexican majority population.

Well, considering they get their weapons from the US to begin with, it should at least be fairly easy to disarm most of them if you really wanted to. Grin

But yes, that seemed very much like a "USA! We're number one!" sort of post, which completely forgets that you have to deal with the aftermath of the war.

Isn't putting glue on a chair a really stupid thing to do?

Doesn't that fundamentally depend on whether or not you will be the one sitting on it?

2866  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Events that changed the world... on: May 28, 2014, 05:19:56 PM
I think the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima by US forces in year 1945 was an event which significantly changed the history of the world.

Because the world has seen the use of such horrible weapons of mass destruction, it successfully ensured an era of peace that has seen no major wars (invasions like US invasion of Iraq doesn't really count) for more than half a century. Before this, the world has NEVER seen a period of peace that lasted so long.

So I'd like to think the sacrifices of the people of Nagasaki & Hiroshima has at least brought the world lasting peace and prevented much more lives from being lost. Sad

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." - J. Robert Oppenheimer, the main scientist behind the creation of the Atomic bomb

I suppose you can argue that the use of nuclear weapons at that time might have led to them not being used later, for example against china during the Korean war, which could have led down a pretty bad road. But don't forget that the world came pretty close to nuclear war on several occasions (the Cuban missile crisis being one such occasion); the truth is it was closer to sheer luck that such thing never took place, and the reality is we're not out of the woods yet.

Now, even in the absence of nuclear war, or a major world war, saying that "invasions like US invasion of Iraq doesn't really count" is silly; doesn't count to whom? It certainly counted to all those that died, which weren't few by any means, and to their loved ones. It also counted in that it pretty much destroyed the country and the lives of many of its people. Also, you never had a period of peace lasting half a century: there was constant war going on, but the type of war bullies like, I suppose: big guys beating on weak defenseless people. In fact, after WW2 the US saw that it could implement its long held dream of ruling the world (or much of it), and went for it. See the wars, conflicts and coups that took place in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South America, parts of Europe, Africa, etc., for more details.
2867  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. WEEKLY PAYOUTS. on: May 28, 2014, 02:10:50 PM
In the op it says there is no rollover so you must do 50 posts or you won't get paid. It shouldn't be that difficult to do 50 in a month.

not for a month what i mean is for the new member who just joined yesterday or today im sure they cant make a 50 post in a day or 2 or maybe they can but i know some of us also wants to clarify this kind of thing

The current minimum post limit is at 10 or 12 posts a week. So, if you can do that before the next payday, Thursday I think, you should be fine.

I don't know much about Icelandics but did you know that Italians are the world best lovers?

World best lovers of what, pasta?

2869  Other / Off-topic / Re: Post your Total time logged into Bitcointalk on: May 28, 2014, 01:01:55 PM
The counter is screwy.

I sometimes log in for days and it doesn't show up.

Yes I noticed it too, I have 11 days but I spent literaly months logged in, maybe it counts only when you post something, then stops after a determined time.

I don't think you actually have to post something, but the general idea is right; it counts as long as you are actively using the forum (like browsing through the threads), and stops after a set time of inactivity.

How did the topic change to the Russian language?
Don't know, but IMO the most crazy languages are Finnish and Hungarian, don't you agree?

Should I take from this that you never interacted with Icelandic?

There you go.  Grin You will need a dos emulator like DosBox or D-Fend to run it though.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried the file yet, so be sure to have an antivirus/antimalware program ready just in case.

How come Hero or Snr Members can only reserve places? If everyone can't reserve a place it's not fair really. It should be first come first served though. Many people who reserve might just find another deal or never sign up and that takes a place from someone else.

Edit: Is the max participants 30 total? I guess you're wanting more higher members to join?

It's fair by the rulles of bitcointalk.

Then by that logic scamming is fair by the rules, but it doesn't make it right.

That Senior and Hero Members get preferential treatment isn't really surprising, or something new for that matter; we all know their rates per post are far higher than other members for example. You can argue it isn't right and that any other member can do just about as much as they can despite the limitations, but at the end of the day it's the campaign owner's decision. And they obviously want those ranks over any other to join.

Besides that, I think you're right in pointing out that people who reserve the spot might not take it; both UpDown and PD have announced in the last few days coming changes to their pay structure, so there is a possibility that many of these reserves will probably never be filled anyway.
2873  Economy / Services / Re: GAW MINERS PAYS FOR YOUR SIGNATURE >>> HIGH RATES 50posts = 0.1BTC JOIN US! on: May 28, 2014, 11:22:42 AM
OP I have one suggestion for you if you feel good then do this

which members completed one month you give them positive feedback for this is this ok ?
I don't think any other campaign manager does this.

Actually, PD did that last month, at least for a few members, and I think Ritz did so as well when they started their campaign a few months ago. Maybe you could reserve this as a reward for those that had no spam posts at all, or something like that.  Wink
2874  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for a permanent ban of Pobre? on: May 27, 2014, 10:39:50 PM
Him posting lowers the overall quality of posts on this forum; that's why I care so much. Moderators here are very, very lax about rules it seems, which is GREAT thing. However, sometimes, I think they are too lax.

It seems he created that thread after his ban was extended, so not only did he break a rule again, on another account, he came here and started to cry about getting caught red-handed for the 2nd time.

Yes, his poor judgement is not in question... but because you think his posts lower the overall quality of the forum, you decided to take it upon yourself to call for him to be punished above and beyond what even the people that had to put up with him think is adequate. Least I can say is, I hope you never become a mod/staff member in this forum. Tongue
2875  Economy / Services / Re: ★★★ HIGHEST SIGNATURE PAYMENT ON THE BOARD - NEW RATES - RitzGrandCasino.com ★★★ on: May 27, 2014, 10:07:30 PM
at the time I posted the feedback they were offering up to 2.6BTC a month I cant remember what the price per post was but that is what they were offering at the time i am sure someone remembers that

also someone should point out where i said he is a scammer all i did was leave negative trust rating because genuine questions were deleted from a self moderated thread and that he was paying people to post up to 6500 posts a month there is nothing in my feedback that says he is a scammer

Perhaps you didn't mean to say Ritz is a scammer, but you certainly must understand by now that that is the perception that sticks when you see a large red "Warning: Trade with extreme caution!" next to someone. Sure people should look at what the feedback is about, but they often don't, particularly newer members that may be less familiar with the system.

Also, I sort of agree that a self-moderated thread is not a great start, but considering the amount of members that were at that time accusing Ritz of everything from the casino not being provably fair, to her not having intentions of paying out and what not, I can understand why it would be required to have a greater control of a thread like this. On top of it, someone coming in and then giving Ritz negative feedback doesn't really help the situation, and only sort of ensures it will get worse.

Lastly, I can't help but feel that you left the negative feedback for Ritz alone, and for something that most other campaigns were doing already: PD was certainly already paying members to post throughout the board with little restrictions, and you now have even more campaigns that do the same, and with ever larger incentives. Yet you didn't bother with leaving feedback for them. And I guess you can argue that most (but not all) others don't have self moderated threads and that Ritz is still untrustworthy because of this, but the truth is there have already been several months of Ritz paying the members of the campaign with little to no problems. So, why haven't you removed the negative feedback, or if you really care about people spamming the boards, given it also to UpDown, FXO, PD, Gaw Miners, etc.?
2876  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for a permanent ban of Pobre? on: May 27, 2014, 09:46:22 PM
Not having a signature isn't that large of a deal. He would still be able to participate in forum activities and have a little text under where his avatar is. Could restrict him to newbie sized signature, where it's a single line, or remove his ability to link to external sites in his signature.

Personally, I think that he's just going to repeat his behavior when he gets unbanned, but try to be a lot more discrete about it.

If the mods think there is no reason to permaban/restrict his forum experience even further, why do you even care so much about it? They've certainly dealt with far worse in the past than a mere pissed off spammer, so I don't think they're under such stress right that they need you to protect them from him. Tongue

In relation to him creating a new thread about the ban, that is not uncommon; provided you show some restrain (which he unfortunately didn't) and work towards understanding the reasons for the ban, I don't think you will automatically be penalized (ban evading is another story).
2877  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: May 27, 2014, 09:18:26 PM
I am actually pretty excited to see what changes are coming around the corner with this campaign over the next month...
I am also very excited to see a rush of new members on 1 June in this campaign and whats stunna going to do with all this

You mean June 17th?
Nope he did type it right...ritz campaign is ending june 1st

I'm not sure, but I think UpDown will still be paying on a weekly basis at that time, so I don't see that most would prefer PD over UpDown at that time; they might consider changing when PD announces new rates, but at the moment UpDown still seems far more attractive.
2878  Other / Off-topic / Re: Vintage computer gems on: May 27, 2014, 08:50:15 PM
I'm not sure about favorite, but I definitely spent a lot of time with time: Chaos, the Battle of Wizards. You are a wizard, and your mission is to kill every other wizard on the board. To accomplish this, you have an arsenal of spells at your disposal, ranging from summoning creatures to aid you in your efforts, to casting lightning bolts on the heads of your unsuspecting foes. Damn, now I want to play that game again... Grin

Here's a video of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTFITF0ofF0.

PS: while searching for the pic, I noticed that someone ported this to android.  Smiley

Would you rather have all the money in the world, but live forever alone
                                                 or
Have all the friends in the world but never have a single dollar to your name

I choose money
i can buy friends with my money Grin
:peace:

You can certainly buy their company, for a time, but they'll never be your friends; at least not in any meaningful sense of the word friend. They're there just so they can get at your money, and once that ends, so does their interest in you. Tongue
2880  Economy / Services / Re: [GET PAID] per post to discuss crypto currencies, you do it anyway, right? on: May 27, 2014, 06:31:43 PM
Could be an interesting opportunity, but the pay per post value is really low when compared to the sig campaigns on this forum. For comparison, FXO for example, is paying 0.0009 btc per post to Full Members, which at the moment is about 3 times what you're offering here.

Would you mind going into detail how the shares are distributed among participants, and perhaps the expected revenue per share?
