2681  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people deny the climate change? on: June 27, 2014, 05:46:09 PM
1. That just shows that the global worming was taking place before humans had any kind of effect on nature
2. Because today many institutes and industries make a living out of "eco rubbish" (for example hybrid or electric car)
3. It's not about additional emissions, it's about how little humans activity adds to the global amount of Carbon-di-Oxide

1. You're talking about completely different time scales here. The climate might vary on very large time scales and indeed have been warmer at some points in the distant past; but the recent warming we are seeing is taking place far faster, in the order of decades.
2. And because of that, the overwhelming majority of scientists from all over the world completely ignore a potentially revolutionary discovery? That's not how it works. Besides, far more powerful and influential industries have a vested interest in making people believe climate change is not real, and they've only been able to buy a handful of scientists.
3. It is about additional emissions: if you have a balancing scale with 50kg on each side and proceed to add 1kg to one side, the plates will shift. Same thing here.
2682  Other / Meta / Re: Possible spambots "hey, i am fresh here" on: June 27, 2014, 09:16:33 AM
I guess you guys need to put more security on registering, I got an idea captcha that asks a question that is easy to answer should suffice like  how many syllables are in bitcointalk? answer:

Something like this I seen before

I don't think that will solve anything; people will just register manually, then proceed to use the bots (probably like they do now). And forcing captchas every time a user posts is out of the question.
2683  Other / Off-topic / Re: The statement Game! on: June 27, 2014, 08:33:14 AM
And I'm finishing it.

No, you're not finishing it; I'm the one who's going to finish it. Tongue
2684  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people deny the climate change? on: June 27, 2014, 08:22:54 AM
Do you want to deny these facts?

1. The Carbon-di-Oxide levels in the atmosphere has risen by more than 50% during the last 50 years.
2. Gases like Carbon-di-Oxide and Methane causes the green house effect, which rises the surface temperature of the earth.
3. Every year, some 31 billion tonnes of Carbon-di-Oxide is released in to the atmosphere, as a result of the human activity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions

1. It's been higher then that in the past (a long time ago)
2. There are other scientists that believe it's the other way around (Carbon-di-Oxide and Methane are the side effects not the cause)
3. Animals and especially the sea produce a lot more

1. Yes, and it was quite a different world; as in, a large part of the population would be displaced if we reached anywhere near the same levels today.
2. And how often is their work cited by other scientists? (that is, how accepted are their ideas?) Last I checked, they weren't.
3. The additional emissions we are producing are tipping the scales against us. Other sources of greenhouse gases we can't easily control, but human sources we can.
2685  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your Wish? on: June 26, 2014, 12:49:47 AM
I want to be a little boy.

So, are you Pinocchio? Or perhaps Data from TNG? Wink

Other than the obvious 1000000 more wishes, I'd ask to be god. And boooommm goes the universe.

Then my wish would be, can you spare me to breathe in space lol.

Hmm, but if he destroys the universe, even if you were somehow spared that event, there would be no space/vacuum/whatever for you to breathe in. In fact, there wouldn't even be a guarantee that the laws of physics that hold you together would still exist. Tongue
2686  Economy / Services / Re: GAW MINERS PAYS FOR YOUR SIGNATURE >>> HIGH RATES 50posts = 0.1BTC JOIN US! on: June 25, 2014, 10:15:04 PM
Are you guys open for new people or no?

You can check the first post in this thread, which shows the number of open spots; at the moment it is at 0 though. I suppose you could try talking to EvilPanda about reserving a spot, but the campaign takes members with a rank of Full Member or above, so you won't be able to join for quite some time.
2687  Other / Off-topic / Re: Post your Total time logged into Bitcointalk on: June 25, 2014, 04:28:04 AM
Not really; this isn't the time since you registered an account here, but the time you've spent active in the forum. Still, last I checked, the highest logged in time was at about 800 days for a forum member.

EDIT: just checked: satoshi is at 9 days. Smiley (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3;sa=statPanel)

Wha... Shocked So I've been here for almost as long as Satoshi!?

Actively posting or reading threads while logged in, yes, I guess you've been here almost as long as him. But you can also visit the forum and read up on what is going on while logged out, and only login for posting, PMs, and such. Alternatively, he could have simply created another account and used that for most forum related stuff.
2688  Other / Off-topic / Re: Post your Total time logged into Bitcointalk on: June 25, 2014, 03:44:37 AM
7 hours and 52 minutes

Guess I won't be winning any logged-in endurance awards anytime soon huh?

I wonder what Satoshi's system would say
Total time logged in: 4 years 7 months 16 days 4 hours and 32 minutes?   <---my guess!

2689  Economy / Services / Re: Get paid for your signature from FXOpen. Weekly payouts. on: June 25, 2014, 02:01:32 AM
perhaps, it would be better people only post if they DIDN't recieve?  Grin

That would be a pretty bad idea since it would ruin the transparency of it all
We can't see mass send texts for each user in the campaign
FX does it individually so there is no way to verify we were all paid unless we post it here

Fifth payment (June 16 - June 22 posts) - done on June 23 - each payment with separate tx id

perhaps, it would be better people only post if they DIDN't recieve?  Grin
Rather post every time you get paid, keeps the good name up, and it's interesting for others to know that the campaign is legitimate.

Stuff like this just clutters up the thread with information you could get otherwise: say, by there not being any complains about payment as capoeira suggested, via the trust system, eventually by there not being any people left in the campaign. Tongue

This isn't a self-moderated thread, so people could post only when there are problems and the post would not only not get deleted, but there would also be no chance of it being buried in I don't know how many posts stating the exact same thing every week. Besides, it also makes it harder to find any other relevant information, either updates from FXO, or from one of the people in the campaign. Still, if knowing exactly who got paid and how much is important to you guys, why not ask the OP to make that public/same as first week?
2690  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. WEEKLY PAYOUTS. on: June 24, 2014, 11:02:02 PM
free publicity for a month, and than a lot of negative publicity.

it would be very short-sighted.

he'd be paying several bitcoins during several weeks on advertising, than have a somewhat nice return of investment for a month and than lose everything and get marked a scammer.

he can shut down his website after that as well.

I doubt OP would be that stupid.

Well, the link to the post I provided is discussing exactly that: depending on the amount of bets the site gets and what percentage of the winnings it keeps, this might actually be profitable. As soon as people realize it is a scam, he can shut down the site, keep whatever btc users have there, and move on to repeat the whole thing with a new site.

Also, I haven't checked this myself, but others were pointing out that the only way to contact UpDown was through this forum; the site itself offered no contact details except a thread here, which is odd.

I just became a full member!!!  Smiley

Looking forward to that extra 50% per post.

Do remember to change the sig though. Smiley

By the way, the next time we request payment, what should we fill in "Link to Enrollment post"? Last time, I used the latest enrollment post I had made, but should we just leave it blank the next time around or use the same post anyway?
2692  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your Wish? on: June 24, 2014, 06:18:07 PM
go back in time 10 years

I'd love to go back in time by 600 years.  Grin

I'll be the first one to find the Inca gold. (Around 30,000 tonnes of gold). It will make me richer by $ 1.25 trillion.  Grin

Can't defeat the Inca alone. Need some support as well. Will give $1 billion to anyone who is ready to fight for me.

How about creating wealth, instead of being the first to steal it? Tongue

It would be more work, but you could go back in time and help advance their technology much faster, improve everyone's level of education, help with methods for disease prevention, food production, and so on.
2693  Other / Off-topic / Re: Answer the question above with a question. on: June 24, 2014, 05:53:49 PM
¿Indeed, why don't we start with a question mark instead

¿Why not start with a question mark and end with a question mark instead?
2694  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you want superpowers? on: June 24, 2014, 05:50:45 PM
Only superpower I want is to be able to like, communicate with animals. Imagine how legit it would be if you were like strolling through the park with your date and you hold out your arm to a bird on a nearby branch and he just flies over and lands in the palm of your hand and lets you pet him or something. Do you realize exactly how that would make your date feel about you?

Also taming wild horses and stuff then riding them off into the sunset

What makes you believe that simply being able to communicate with animals will automatically translate into them doing whatever you want? Are you going to offer to carry the horse on your back the following sunset? Tongue
2695  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. WEEKLY PAYOUTS. on: June 24, 2014, 05:07:30 PM
It would not make sense to pay the first couple of weeks and than suddenly stop paying.

If he does that, many people will point out he's a scammer and his website will get much more negative publicity than it ever got positive publicity.

I hope it's not the case, but it would make sense to do that if he was just looking to gain some trust initially and then have free publicity for a month. Other than that, I don't know how profitable his site is but he could already have made more than what he spent on it, as others have pointed out elsewhere (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656074.msg7437199#msg7437199).
2696  Other / Off-topic / Re: Answer the question above with a question. on: June 23, 2014, 01:18:19 AM
Are you serious?

Does it look to you that he's from Sirius?
2697  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: June 21, 2014, 10:34:20 PM
Buying accounts is a quite lucrative option actually. People just use a trusted escrow and the Trust rating of the seller doesn't matter this way.

Well, as I (and others) suggested previously, expel spammers from the campaign after people present proof of their spamming (and leave neg feedback to the worst offenders), raise the member rank required for entry to the campaign, and limit the number of participants.

In the context of this campaign, that should mostly solve any problem with accounts bought for the purpose of spamming, since Full Member and higher accounts tend to be expensive and no one would risk them becoming useless from the negative rep. This and a single thread in which people can post the evidence against spammers is all that is really needed.
2698  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: June 21, 2014, 09:07:03 PM
This isn't supposed to be your job, the purpose of a signature campaign is you add a signature and pretend it doesn't exist and continue posting as you would normally. When the rewards are this high people are posting purely for the benefits though which is spamming up the forum. I am considering changing the way payments work and paying per rank instead of per post.

If the problem is the spam users are generating, one way of dealing with it is the following (partly based on what others and I have previously said):

  • Create a user managed thread, in which any user can post evidence of spamming by participants of the campaign. Spammers are subsequently kicked out of the campaign permanently, and perhaps given negative trust (at least the worst offenders).
  • To make it more difficult for users to create/buy accounts for using here, consider raising the minimum entry level to the campaign to Full Member for example. That's 4 months (I think) worth of time, and so these accounts are likely too expensive for most people to consider buying and then risk spamming with (given the above).
  • Limit the number of maximum participants in the campaign to avoid people just creating several alts and joining the campaign, which would allow them to better risk spamming.

I can't say I like the idea of us policing each other, but if spam is the main issue, this should solve most of it. Now, perhaps people will still post for the extra btc they gain, but at least it will be higher quality posts, since no one is going to risk their account when half the forum has their eyes on you.
2699  Other / Off-topic / Re: Answer the question above with a question. on: June 21, 2014, 07:49:20 PM
I'm not sure, shall I google it?
You should rather DuckDuckGo or Ixquick it in order to have more privacy, don't you agree with me?

Couldn't you also use Startpage for that?
2700  Other / Off-topic / Re: FUTURE- What whould you like in the ~future~????? on: June 21, 2014, 06:42:16 PM
What is the point of all that when we will we dead before we could see that future... Just focus on your life...

Hey, if one of the things that gets "developed" in our lifetime is immortality, a lot of us might be able to see it. Tongue

We have flying cars.
We can travel space.
[...]

I think what most people mean when they say those things is practical/easily accessible to everyone flying cars/space travel. And I don't know about you, but I would rather not have to wait several decades (at best) to reach the nearest star system. That's not space traveling, that's space crawling. Wink
