2661  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: June 29, 2014, 05:01:21 AM
The smoothest talkers in the recent past have been Reagan (the zipper, the great communicator) and Clinton (the great unzipper, Oxford trained).  Bush, while you may love or hate him, would be able to carry a conversation with you without pausing.  He had gaffes like the "fool me once" line, but we all do stupid stuff now and then.  Obama slipped up once and said 57 states.  Am I going to fault him for that one misstep - no, he may not have slept all night worrying about some crisis unbeknownst to us.  He cannot, however, speak as smoothly as George Bush.

Watch this youtube video about AFO:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdqIvFOKyGY

It's not particularly political.  Bush talks more or less like an average guy.  Obama tries to smooth talk you like he's trying to pick you up at a bar.  Obama says "uh" about 31x more often as Bill Clinton (have to find this citation).

Is it just me, or some people spend their time on completely inconsequential things? I mean, what difference does it make if he says "uh" more often than someone else? Shouldn't people be worrying about finding out where these guys stand on issues and where their funds come from before electing them, instead of worrying about how cool they are/look/sound/whatever? Someone once compared selling candidates to selling any other product on the market, and I guess he was right; avoid the issues and just focus on presenting a pleasant face so people will buy it.
2662  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Way to make people use BTC on: June 29, 2014, 04:17:16 AM
it's even illegal in fact.

If you offer a service and demand payment for that service you are forced by law to accept government issued currency. At least in most countries. (maybe not for all countries).

I can recall a case where some insurance company refused to accept banknotes (they wanted only bank transfers) and they lost the case. They were forced to accept bank notes.

You can bypass this law by having 1 cash register and plenty of bitcoin registers. If people absolutely want to pay with cash give them the worst cash-out experience possible.

But isn't what he is suggesting basically the same as what happens in a casino, for example? They do accept fiat, but force you to convert it to their "currency" before you can use their services/games. So, provided they have the btc ATM at the door (that is, provide a way for people to convert government issued currency), how would it be any different?

PS: the "dollars not accepted here" sign should have the $ and/or dollars crossed out or something. Tongue
2663  Other / Off-topic / Re: Earth is hollow on: June 29, 2014, 03:19:28 AM
Not sure if trolling but the core is a metal alloy of some sort

Why would you think it's hollow? It would collapse under the pressure of gravity

Dank trolling? Never! Wink

Still, there are a lot of fringe groups that believe that the Earth is mostly hollow inside, or that relatively small regions are, and that people/other humanoid creatures inhabit within.

See for example: http://www.ourhollowearth.com/ (and leave your rationality at the door).

Wrong Phylum, but right idea. Tongue

I started watching Mushi-shi recently; it's interesting, and it kind of reminds me of xxxHolic (no, that's not pr0n). Still, it's quite slow, and at least as far as I've seen, has no greater story arc to speak of. Need to find something new, preferably with a great story with lots of twists and turns, interesting characters, and cool spaceships/mechs. Roll Eyes
2665  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: June 29, 2014, 01:36:15 AM
I think bitmixer is the best deal, but idk.

Why do you say that? I think they only pay up to 0.01 btc per week, or 0.04 per month, which is less than half what for example Gaw Miners or CloudBet pay for 50 posts per month. And then, if you post a lot, other campaigns can pay out even more.
2666  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin MMORPG on: June 29, 2014, 01:26:41 AM
Imo we need new Minecraft add-on with some magic blocks. Imagine - after hours of mining regular blocks of dirt or stone you suddenly rise some bitcoins!

Actually, there is a server that apparently gives out bitcoins for every X number of unique blocks you interact with: http://www.minecraftcc.com/index.php?threads/get-paid-to-play-minecraft.4613/. Grin
2667  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Get free bitcoins playing a free game? on: June 29, 2014, 01:19:23 AM
Seems like a cool game and all, but shouldn't the hero's name be Satoshi? Wink

Anyway, that's a great idea; we need more of this sort of thing to spread the word. On the other hand, without them having information of what to use bitcoins for / where to use them to get what they want, many will probably just ignore it. I imagine you won't be able to pay out much for each prize, but perhaps link the game somehow to shops or auction sites that use bitcoin? This would immediately make the connection for people that this is something they can easily use to buy stuff with, instead of relying on fiat, and not just some geek only thing.
2668  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin MMORPG on: June 29, 2014, 12:43:31 AM
There are also a few MMOs that accept/let you withdraw in-game currency to bitcoin, like MarketGlory or GoldenTowns. Unfortunately not only is bitcoin not the game currency itself, but they are just browser games; nothing you would need an high-end GPU for.

Anyway, Taras, you have my full (moral) support. Tongue

EDIT: I don't know if it would be the appropriate section of the forum, but maybe you could move this to "Project Development"; I don't know if there is a "Project Development Request" section. Smiley

I once sold some leprechauns to a group of dwarves but do you think that was a good idea?

Why didn't you ask for your three wishes and then release them, instead of just selling them to the dwarves?
2670  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. WEEKLY PAYOUTS. on: June 28, 2014, 11:57:52 PM
Shouldn't someone mark him with negative trust for not monitoring his campaign and paying out properly?
Most people will remember the name but for new users it might be helpful.

He has already received a few negative feedbacks, just not from people on the default trust list. Still, he might not have done due diligence with this campaign and there are certainly a lot of outstanding issues, but it's probably better to wait until July 5, when he is supposed to return and pay people out, before branding him as a spammer.
2671  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which anime do you like to watch? on: June 28, 2014, 11:32:39 PM
I found Seitokai Yakuindomo to be a really refreshing comedy anime, partly because they don't have those really really stereotypical 'perfect' and 'cute' ( actually really annoying at times ) girls, oh and there's dirty jokes in it, lots and lots of dirty jokes, speaking of which.

What's this?!

[...]

Either a girl lying on her back with legs open wide, or considering your description of the anime, some kind of insect (a grasshopper or some such). Tongue

I have a question, someone is trying buy my spot,so can these spots can be sold ?

If spots are being bought and sold, this sets precedence. And do you know how much hassle it will be for FXO to manage constant PMs for people selling and buying spots, for your own benefit? This was answered about 8 pages back (first line), it's not possible:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=618870.msg7210396#msg7210396

I don't know if FXO allows people to reserve spots in this campaign, but if he doesn't, there would be other ways in which he could sell his spot. For example, having warned the buyer before hand, proceed to quit the campaign at a prearranged time and have the buyer enroll right after that.

EDIT: though considering the campaign is far over the max limit of users at the moment, that may not work as expected. Tongue
2673  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which anime do you like to watch? on: June 28, 2014, 10:10:24 PM
one piece is the best!!

I ended up being bored half the time I saw One Piece. While I think that it is funny and the combat sequences are great, it seems to me that they waste a lot of time with character specific episodes, that end up not really adding a lot (or in most cases, anything) to the global storyline, or sometimes even the episodes they are in. If they removed, or at least drastically reduced their number, they could easily halve the total episode count, which would leave an action packed anime, with a lot of humor, and an interesting storyline with interesting characters to boot.
2674  Other / Off-topic / Re: Post your Total time logged into Bitcointalk on: June 28, 2014, 09:52:09 PM
that activity stuff is so complicated to understand Sad

In the Meta section of the forum you have a few threads explaining how it works. For example, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495948.0.

Basically, it is the minimum between your number of posts and 14 * (number of 2 week periods in which you posted). The current 2 week period started on June 24 and will end on July 8. So, if you post a lot (once or more a day for example), your activity increases by 14 every 14 days. If you don't post that much, your activity equals your post count.
2675  Other / Off-topic / Re: The statement Game! on: June 28, 2014, 09:22:49 PM
Like they are excluded from other stuff, for example having births and wearing red pants for 1 week every month.

Not only are men not excluded from wearing red pants whenever they feel like, but they can also give birth, as per the movie Junior (1994) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110216/). Tongue
2676  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: June 28, 2014, 09:06:47 PM
Another question. I signed up as a full member but recently become a senior member. but it states that you are not allowed to change signature whilst enrolled otherwise you will not recieved payment? What should I do in this situation? contact stunna directly maybe?

You can and should change to the correct PD sig. In the past ppl like you have been paid the higher rate for the full month.

I've contacted stunna just to be 100% sure I don't want to do something which will make me not get the payment.

I had the same doubt some days ago and asked him that. Provided you don't change to another campaign or simply remove the sig, you can update it without any problems.

Updated Enrollment List:  [If you aren't here you will not get paid, changing your signature to something non-pd at any point in the campaign will make you ineligible for payment.]

[...]

If I did the math right, I think I might be promoted to Senior Member before the next payday (17/07); is it safe to remove the Full Member signature mid-term in order to replace it? Smiley

Yeah, you can edit your PD signature you will only be denied payment if you switch to any other ad campaign while enrolled or remove your PD signature.
2677  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Beware of LocalBitcoins.com on: June 28, 2014, 06:06:31 AM
I doubt it is that easy to just fraud your way through localbitcoins... someone would be able to tell between fraudulent ratings and real ones. I'm sure admins would also be able to monitor the ratings and how quick they get them after they open an account

Well, the site does have a lot of users, so it's not exactly easy to monitor ratings just like that; some kind of automated system must certainly be in place. And how quickly you gain feedback isn't exactly a very good indicator for such a system, as you're likely going to get a lot of false positives, and miss out on the more cautious scammers.

On the other hand, if the only ratings a user has are from other relatively new accounts and for low amounts of btc, then perhaps you should be cautious when dealing with them. And in the case the feedback is coming from older, more established accounts, then I assume an automated system could catch them, by linking them to all the accounts used for scamming.

What type of question is that?

Are there different kinds of questions now?

2015 is the year, they're going to have war with the Mexicans.

2680  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 3D printer to be sent to the ISS in August on: June 27, 2014, 09:02:51 PM
This sorta reminds me of a story I heard some time ago(it may be just a myth, but it's nonetheless interesting). Upon reaching micro-gravity astronauts and people at NASA noticed that the regular pen can't write in such condition, due to the lack of gravity that pushes the ink down.
After a couple of years and good few million dollars later, they invented a special pen that could write in the most vicious enviroments.
Russian cosmonauts faced this issue too. They used pencils!

This comic that came out today is just about that:
