Update!!
Well I lost it all. My hard died on me. I was able to sync with bitmonerod (thanks for the help by the way). However, my .keys files went down with the hard drive... 534 Monero's!! almost a year worth of mining down the drain.
Well, i still have 1.5 KH/s worth of mining power. Back to the drawing board....
Word of caution to all - BACKUP/SAVE your stuff! Don't be me!!!
Terrible news. You might want to save the dead hard drive. If there is a "moon" event, taking a shot with an expensive data recovery service might be worth it. How exactly did the drive fail? traditional drives have moving parts and can get stuck up with gunk. there is a pad that cleans it off but this gets clogged and can grab the head and stick it firm. A trick I used to try sometimes is the take the handle of a heavy screw driver and tap the drive as it tries to spin up. This can free the read head and bring it back to life. At one company where I was new they were like WTF are you doing? but sure enough they weren't complaining when their machine came back to life. Good luck this might not be your problem but worth a try. Also if you just cant boot from it? maybe it can be configured as a slave to see if there is more accessible data there still from a different point of view (new OS).

Hey, Bitcoiners! The 80s called, they want their disruptive technology back!
ba dum chhh!
What a kick ass rig! A floppy drive? And a modem!? All my lousy parents could get me was a Vic 20 with a tape drive. Took over ten minutes just to load Zaxxon... My buddy had a C64 though, used to go over to his house all the time to play choplifter. yes, with cartridges right. I had the similarly better off friend too.

Economy / Speculation / Re: Critical Levels - EW analysis

What is the ideal candle size to use when looking at ew? 12h, 4h, 1h? 1d?
Everything changes at every scale.
Sometimes I feel like I can get the overall feeling on big zoom and then go closer and see how it is pulling towards or away from it.

crossposting because it was posted in a moderated thread and 99% certain it will be deleted CryptoNote assets would be amazing!! If only there wasn't the bad 'smell' around the ~80% premine.
That premine could be a blessing in disguise if it were used to subsidize people who issue and maintain Assets like Bitshares': Assets tied to others. The 82% premine is indeed a blessing in disguise - they own so many of the outputs in the txoset that they can trivially deanonymise everyone's transactions. Let me say that again: as 82% of Bytecoin's outputs are controlled by persons unknown to the cryptocurrency community, those unknown entities (or entity) can deanonymise every transaction you make with Bytecoin. There is no way around this, there is nothing they can do to reduce the attack surface. Even if 1000 sock puppets come forward and claim to own a portion of those outputs it is still impossible for anyone to independently verify. Technical details of why such massive output ownership is a death knoll can be found in MRL-0001: A Note on Chain Reactions in Traceability in CryptoNote 2.0Aaaaaand it's gone.

With XMR.TO we can send to a btc address privately. What needs to be done in order to receive privately from a btc address?
Create new Bitcoin address and never spend that coins/ use mixer/ exchange them back to monero Bribe us to implement the other direction! No, seriously: if there's considerable interest, we might consider implementing BTC->XMR. It's not on the dev schedule as of yet, as we weren't sure about its usefulness. Opinions? Your service is amazing! great job.
