1361  Economy / Economics / Re: EUR might drop below USD on: March 23, 2015, 01:41:14 PM
Now it's 1.09 USD again. I wonder if it goes up again or lower.
1362  Other / Off-topic / Re: Opinions on Investing in Gold and Silver on: March 23, 2015, 09:23:03 AM
Don't invest in gold unless you have a lot of money. It's not worth it. If you're looking to invest in a precious metal I'd recommend silver.

Start with silver. There's a nice silver community on reddit.

it's a long term investment for people who have enough money to wait 10+ years for a decent return.

Agreed, it's a definitely long-term thing.

Keep in mind that there are different types of coins: bullion (typically 90%+ pure gold/silver), collector coins (there's only a limited amount of this coin) and junk (e.g. old U.S. coins with some silver in it).

1365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Any bitcoin-turned-millionaires here? on: March 22, 2015, 11:58:59 PM
Most active accounts that have been around and active since 2010 and 2011 probably have made a million or two from Bitcoin.

Most active accounts? I guess I did something wrong then. I had many bitcoins at some point, but I spent a lot of them & lost some of them. Many others bought stuff and made some bad decisions too.

However I was almost broke when I started using Bitcoin and made a decent amount of money in this rollercoaster.
1366  Other / Meta / Re: VOD - Abusing Trust System on: March 22, 2015, 11:34:58 AM
Just because someone is selling msdn key for bitcoin doesnt means that bitcoin will be rejected by microsoft, do you think that if someone sells it for USD, then microsoft will be rejecting USD?

Bitcoin is tiny - and digital currency - not legal tender, if they are seeing a community working against them (it's not like OP is the only one selling keys) they could stop it. If someone sells it for USD the government behind the USD will force them to stop doing it.
1367  Other / Meta / Re: VOD - Abusing Trust System on: March 22, 2015, 11:23:25 AM
Are you really crying a sob story for Microsoft? REALLY? If you think Microsoft gives two shits about you or Bitcoin, beyond profit motive, you are sorely mistaken.

Yeah, I guess I'm "crying a sob story for MS"....  maybe, because I want them to keep using Bitcoin and to integrate it globally.

Almost every company integrates Bitcoin for profits only and that's okay - that's the purpose of Bitcoin.
1368  Other / Meta / Re: VOD - Abusing Trust System on: March 22, 2015, 11:05:26 AM
Is "some jurisdictions" such as Italy the entire world? Is the seller based in one of these countries? Is the forum hosted in one of those countries? Are customers from those countries even trading with him? No? You don't know? In that case NOTHING HE IS DOING IS AGAINST THE FORUM RULES.

I have no idea about the legal situation, however I would like to remind OP that Microsoft is the largest company to accept Bitcoin for some of their products and you are not doing them a favour by selling MSDN. I care a lot less about him violating the ToS of companies that are unwilling to integrate Bitcoin.

Abusing Trust System

It's a trust system not a "rate my service" system - you have every right to trust or distrust any person.

Of course, if you distrust people they will probably distrust you as well. I'm not using the trust system here, but I also see the need to act against questionable sales (including MSDN).
1370  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How Social Justice Warriors Are Creating An Entire Generation Of Fascists on: March 22, 2015, 09:26:17 AM
I am not surprised to see Tumblr posts in this article. There are so many SJW posts on Tumblr

If you call for violence against white heterosexual men you're on the same level as far-right political parties, Islamic extremists, etc. - if you want to kill people: join the military.
1371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't the government leave Silk Road open... on: March 21, 2015, 05:19:32 PM
Also not all of the trading that was going on was illegal:

Quote from: Wikipedia
There were also legal goods and services for sale, such as apparel, art, books, cigarettes, erotica, jewellery, and writing services.

All sellers knowingly supported the Silk Road with their money therefore all of them are criminals regardless of their products.

1372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You can buy Bitcoin in Austria at nearly every corner on: March 20, 2015, 01:26:35 PM
That is really cool.  Do you get the exchange rate at the time you buy the coupon, or when it is redeemed?

I don't really understand how it works, but it is a very nice and easy way to buy bitcoins.

You get the exchange rate at the time you redeem it (you could just buy one and redeem it when the rate is lower), I already have my bitcoins so I didn't buy one, but I'll give it a try if I need more.

Do you need to show any ID when buying the coupon?

If you buy a significant amount the store owner may ask for ID - just like when you buy prepaid credit cards, paysafecards, etc.

They are only required to check your identity if you buy more than €15000, however they may ask you to provide ID for lower amounts if you're acting suspicious.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, I'm just referencing the money laundering rules of Austria

That is so great man. In Germany we are way behind. Hope this will change in the future.

That's just a single company - it should be possible to do that in Germany.
1373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You can buy Bitcoin in Austria at nearly every corner on: March 20, 2015, 01:05:30 PM
I live in a small town in Austria (~10,000 residents) - went to a tobacco store today.

They are advertising bitcoinbon on TV screens, just like in this picture someone posted to reddit.
1374  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama wants mandatory voting on: March 19, 2015, 04:06:26 PM
I'm from Ecuador, one of the 11 countries with compulsory voting and I can say that's a terrible idea!
A lot of people just don't care about politics and don't get informed. The only result is that they make an almost random vote if they're forced too.
If somebody doesn't want to read candidate's proposals and other information they should be able not to vote and let decide those who do.

Most people in Australia seem to hate Tony Abbott, so it's not just a terrible idea in Ecuador.
1375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You can buy Bitcoin in Austria at nearly every corner on: March 19, 2015, 12:52:59 PM
Nice! Now we need more merchants accepting Bitcoin in Austria.
1376  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: 1Broker.com on: March 19, 2015, 12:19:35 PM
Hallo,

1377  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the European Union Dying? on: March 19, 2015, 01:25:27 AM
I do agree that the European Union is facing many challenges right now, but most of that can be solved.

IMO the biggest problem with the EU is that we have the Euro, but every country in the Eurozone still makes their own budget.
1378  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: March 18, 2015, 09:41:08 PM
My Trezor still works great - I'm using it with GreenBits now, however the cable that comes with the Trezor stopped working after just a few days.
1379  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Cryptocurrency Twitter account w/ 1800+ followers on: March 18, 2015, 08:58:00 PM
I don't really need another account, but your account looks good (follower:following ratio ~14:1, 87% real followers). Why are you selling it? What did smartcrypto offer?
1380  Other / Off-topic / Re: Facebook to use payments in messenger. on: March 18, 2015, 07:29:23 PM
You guys realize that David Marcus is working for FB now (and responsible for the messenger) - he ran PayPal for two years and likes Bitcoin.

If he still likes Bitcoin maybe... just maybe... he's adding a new payment option to FB.
