1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING! Bitcoin will soon block small transaction outputs on: July 04, 2013, 05:47:33 AM
For some reason my mortgage broker refused to allow me to pay for my house with 30 million 1c coins...

Of course, because you tried to bloat his wallet with ~70 tons of coins.
1482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING! Bitcoin will soon block small transaction outputs on: July 04, 2013, 05:39:10 AM
So I'm not the only one who doesn't want to store thousands of tiny fractions, that are basically unspendable (or at least very expensive to spend) for other people.

It's easy to change online services to make them compatible with this and it can be changed back to a lower limit, if it's reasonable.

Do you guys always pay with $/€/... 0.01 coins?

Scalability & making it less expensive (in terms of storage) to run a full node is more important right now. Well done, Mr. Andresen.
1483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A wide gap that cannot be bridged will likely bring down Bitcoins on: July 03, 2013, 06:02:09 PM
Miners will make money in the future from transactions. Transactions only happen if bitcoin is a success. So miners have absolutely no interest in bringing down the bitcoin economy. In fact, since they hold so many bitcoins, they have a vested interest in seeing each bitcoin being as worth as much as humanly possible.

Indeed, and they could make even more BTC, if more transactions are happening via tx fees.

Oh, now it's not just chinese solar panels…but everything made in China? - and it's suspicious, because of the US power cord?
1485  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: An alternative to Mt Gox? on: July 01, 2013, 04:03:14 PM
Avoid the exchanges if you can. Do a trade on the forums / #bitcoin-otc / localbitcoins. The exchanges provide central points of failure (Bad with a capital B) and have fees that you won't need to pay if you trade at spot off-exchange.

Best suggestion so far. Make sure to check the reputation of the person you're trading with - some users are impersonating reliable members....

1488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US BITCOIN REGULATION "FOR" or "AGAINST" on: June 28, 2013, 07:05:27 PM
Austria, it depends on the type of regulation. If it affects bitcoin / fiat currency I don't really care, if it affects bitcoin / product or service I'd move to a country where this is not the case.
1489  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Activists under Pressure in Austria on: June 28, 2013, 05:41:54 AM
What do you think about that developments?

The problem is:

1.We have very unclear laws in Austria - not just about 'terrorism'.

2.There is the so called 'Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz und Terrorismusbekämpfung' for counter-terrorism, but we don't really have actual terrorist attacks* here, so they're probably trying to find some innocent people to avoid losing their jobs.  Roll Eyes

*Austria has a very low homicide rate, AFAIR it was one of the lowest in the EU.
1490  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Capitalism. on: June 25, 2013, 06:01:06 PM
The world would probably be a better place, if more people tried to learn from the positive and negative aspects of economic and sociopolitical ideas rather than wasting their time complaining about them.
1491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your exit switch? on: June 25, 2013, 05:20:45 PM
In other words, my "exit point" would be if I were not able to spend or exchange it easily - however, if this ever happens, it won't make sense to spend time "exiting" - just keep the coins as a suovenir.

Same for me. Just like I would keep precious metals in case of a collapse (like to literally 0.00 per troy ounce)

1493  Other / Meta / Re: How many members are on this forum? on: June 22, 2013, 09:00:30 PM
About 128880 accounts registered now.

4296 (pages) X 30 (Users per page) = 128880

~131982 accounts have been created (unless the member ID is a lie).
1494  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Idea for MtGox competitors on: June 22, 2013, 06:54:12 AM
So, an idea for any new exchanges looking for business? Offer free bitcoin deposits, free USD/Bitcoin trades and free USD withdrawals for any existing MtGox customers who sign up in the next 2 weeks, or alternatively for a 2 week period.

How do you expect a new exchange to pay for lawyers without trading fees? This could only work with a massive amount of money (>100 million USD) -  I'm pretty sure that nobody who is on bitcointalk owns that much.

If I wanted to start a currency exchange I wouldn't start it in the U.S. (and not with USD).

1495  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CoinURL sold to the new owner on: June 19, 2013, 01:49:04 PM
PPC should be based on how much the advertiser paid for the click. This means it will (or at least should) fluctuate a lot from day to day, much like it does with AdSense.

It's a bit better now, but I think targeting could be improved. Maybe by allowing users to add keywords as advertisers and match them with publisher keywords.

The u.s would only be able to seize our domain name anyway not our content....

Indeed, but it's bad for customers, if they don't know your IP address.
1500  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Phinnaeus Gage scammer tag request on: June 17, 2013, 08:22:32 PM
OP:

Phinnaeus Gage did not keep this promise, but he would've been scammer tagged a long time ago, if he was here to steal money.

You didn't lose money, what are you even doing here? The internet police doesn't handle cases like this one Roll Eyes
