Did you try the same

  • in a different browser?
  • with a different charset?
(utf-8 or something)

In all honesty, it's very clearly stated that you can only post in the Newbies section when registering here. I'm sorry you've had so much trouble, but as you can see, many, many others have not.

So, I really don't think it's all as complicated as you make it out to be. Just use everyone's best friend (Google) to find the information that is needed, and then follow the steps for starting to mine or whatever you want to do. If you can do this there should not be a problem.

Some people are even willing to pay for some help / bitcoin tech support Wink

So, I have a question:
Why is the processes of getting started with using/mining Bitcoins being kept so user-unfriendly?
Is it because the very tech-savvy people behind Bitcoin have forgotten just how un-tech-savvy the average computer user actually is?
Or is there perhaps an unspoken effort to keep the process somewhat user-unfriendly because there is greater potential for personal profit in these early stages if the number of miners is kept somewhat small for a while.
In other words, are people saying to themselves: "sure I want everyone & their grandmother to get involved in Bitcoin, but just not quite yet ... not until I've done a bit more mining for myself".

1.That's more than just one question.
2.I think you answered it already: "the very tech-savvy people behind Bitcoin have forgotten just how un-tech-savvy the average computer user actually is"

I helped a guy today getting his private key in his wallet. That's something that could be easier (or just explained for people who are "un-tech-savvy")

Bitcoin is for more user friendly than it was in say 2010

Agreed!

Once again this isn't much of a big deal if you ask me. Sure, 100% unregulated is better, but this doesn't come as a surprise.

IANAL, but I think that's a good thing. They're only regulating USD/BTC… if you don't cash out the money transmission part doesn't apply.

TL;DR: mine --> spend!

Operating a BTC exchange anywhere in the world, however, is now "illegal" (as I read it).

1606  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Pricing in Bitcoin dollars on: March 19, 2013, 12:50:40 PM
I don't know of any BTC advertising network that lets you use dynamic images, so I have to keep updating those banners manually if I want to show the prices in BTC (as you can see, the prices in the banner are completely off). Instead of doing that, I was thinking I could advertise the price in "bitcoin dollars". Do you get it?

Okay. How about this: you automatically create those banners and make your own affiliate system ?

If that's not how you want to do it, just ask a BTC advertising network to implement API requests to update banners.

but doing that with static banners is very tiresome, as I constantly need to update the advertising material as the BTC value changes.

Why do you advertise the price in static banners? As someone who doesn't use USD this wouldn't make it easier for me.

Just copy what BitcoinStore is doing. Problem solved.

I agree.

I can confirm that this is bullshit!

1613  Economy / Speculation / Re: [POLL] 1g Gold parity on: March 18, 2013, 07:50:17 PM
Do more people price gold in grams or ounces? People might say something when one bitcoin was worth a gallon of gas or a liter of gas, but they would never make a big deal about a bitcoin being worth a tablespoon of gas.

We're still far away from the "market cap" of silver! I'm waiting for that!
1614  Other / Off-topic / Re: Finally! 111-11-1 on: March 18, 2013, 07:32:50 PM
There a hidden message in it:

111-11-1 => 11101101 (replace - with 0) => ED (hexadecimal)

ED = Bruce Wagners' friend!

1618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is competition healthy for Bitcoin? on: March 16, 2013, 09:39:12 PM
Competition motivates people a bit, but the biggest motivation in human life is cooperation (just think about relationships). You can't start a successful business without any employees and it won't be successful without partnerships.
1619  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Too late to get rich? on: March 16, 2013, 05:36:20 PM
Of course it's not too late to get rich: we're all early adopters even now. But, but, but... Bitcoin is not a get-rich-quick scheme. There are no guarantees of future profit. Bitcoin is a currency and payment system, is all.

Currency speculation can be a way to profit but it does have some risks. Then again, what doesn't?

+21,000,000

@OP How do you define rich? And why are you asking this? Nobody in here will be able to answer…
