1785  Economy / Speculation / Re: at a certain point you cant buy cheap coins on: August 29, 2012, 06:33:53 AM
If they are ethical they would sell them through a third party they trust at arms length.

They should collaborate with other exchanges:
1.ethical reasons
2.they'd have some coins even if something goes wrong with their own exchange + backups / cold storage
3.trading so many coins on their own exchange also makes them a very big target for hackers

This reminds me of the FeedZeBirds asset, which was also a profitable website and after the IPO they seemed to have stopped working on it without paying a single dividend, because other projects became more important  Roll Eyes

TL;DR S.DICE is overvalued - company should improve its management

Math: [16,642 Giga Hash/s / 25.2 Giga Hash/s] * $15,295 = $10.1 million

Pre-order those 1TH/s mini rigs @ $30k :p
1789  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WTS Lindens for BTC on: August 14, 2012, 05:21:45 AM
Thanks but unfortunately virwox is sort of what got me into this situation in the first place. I bought a bunch of linden on Second Life, but when I tried to deposit it in my virwox account on one of their in-game ATM's I get the message that "payment has been declined by Linden Lab's RISK API." I've been able to deposit just 100 linden but no more. Hence why I'm trying to sell it for BTC here... wish I would have just bought it on virwox directly and avoided all of this.

You can send an email to virwox and ask them to disable the RISK API for your account if it blocks your transaction.

is there any way to embiggen that tiny map?

Take a look at the map on http://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions Wink

I think in countries like China most Bitcoiners are using a VPN or something like that…
1791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could you live off your Bitcoins? on: August 08, 2012, 08:20:24 AM
Actually, you only need about 2000 BTC and then invest them in various stocks/bonds on GLBSE.com with yields around 3% on average (you can diversify portfolio around for security).

That's not a safe way to live off your BTC:
1.One or more stocks/bonds could fail (also: maybe one of them is a scam/ponzi…)
2.If GLBSE gets hacked, you may lose a lot.
3.If the value of BTC suddenly goes down to $2 you only have $480…

Edit: 3% of 2000 BTC is 60 BTC  Roll Eyes

Could you live off your Bitcoins?

No. Even if I put everything I have in high return (pirate) investments I wouldn't be able to live off my bitcoin income.

Out in the rice fields along the highways the farmers can get free electricity up to a limit but none of them know about mining.

Tell them about it. If they don't want to invest anything you could install your own miners there and pay them.
1793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you keep your Bitcoins on an exchange? on: August 07, 2012, 07:37:35 PM
"the exchange"?? There's more than one.

Best bet is to spread them around. I have some offline. Some encrypted in various hiding places online. At least a handful in every exchange. Some on GLBSE. Spread your risk and diversify.

Same here  Smiley

No, proprietary.

This. Publish the source code (GPL, AGPL, BSD, MIT,...?) and I will buy one (card + usb transmitter)…
