661  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: blockchain doesnt accept my pass on: December 22, 2015, 03:50:55 AM
You should leave blockchain.info, their service is in general really crappy. They usually make a lot of mistakes so I am not surprised that you aren't able to get into your account. Most people here don't like them and will not recommend that you use blockchain.info.

A few questions:
Are you absolutely sure that you have entered exactly the correct password?
Do you have cookies enabled in your browser? If you don't have cookies, you will constantly need to confirm the browser.
Can you provide a picture of the error?

Error Decrypting Wallet. Please check your password is correct.

i allowed cookies now and tried again nothing changed.

i am sure about pass because of that mnemonic,i have taken photo of it , entered manually to site it shows your password so copy pasted but not worked.

just noticed my pass doesnt includes symbol ,if you create a new wallet now it demands a symbol in your pass otherwise not accept.
if this is a problem , it shows coding management is stupid.

That's not true, I just created a test wallet and entered a password without any symbols and it was accepted, the only thing required is that the password should be 10 Characters long. And I was able to access my account using the same password. What chrome version are you on? Clear all the cache, history and then use the link in your email to login, use the identifier which was given in your email (the one which contains long string of numbers & letters xxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxx) and not the one you made yourself and I think you'll be able to get access to your account.

If you have a back up then just make a new wallet either on blockchain or use a desktop wallet like electrum and you can import the keys of addresses which contain the funds.
662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why even use BitCoins? (read the post!) on: December 22, 2015, 03:09:39 AM

Basically you have a choice: a) just pay instantly using your debit/credit card, or b) pay using BitCoins after wasting some of your time.

Bitcoin easier to use than the debit card or credit card, and I think most people will agree with me. Tongue

I do agree with you, when I shop using debit/credit card (because the merchant doesn't accepts Bitcoin), I am always worried that my credit/debit card information might get stolen and someone might steal the money from my account or shop using my credit card. But when paying with Bitcoin I don't have to worry about these things, because no one other than me can know my private key and even if they did, by the time they do any damage, my funds would have moved from there to another address. So A.) Its more Secure.

B.) I am in control of my funds, banks can't seize my funds for whatever reason.
C.) I don't have to pay huge fees to banks for holding and spending my own funds.

Those are some of the reasons I prefer shopping with BTC but OP if you don't feel like using it, no one is forcing you to.
663  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Bans me After i Help them fix major Exploit on: December 21, 2015, 03:13:53 AM
Yet another reason not to use online wallets. And keep your FIAT and coins deposited while trading as short as you can. Coinbase might be big, but their system is not free from all kinds of bugs.

It was never about them as "online wallet" service. It was more about them low balling me on their bounties and not paying me for the second exploit. Wasting months of my time for nothing. Doing sketchy stuff that would never be expected from a big business like Coinbase. Banning my account for no reason, but to just have an excuse for not paying for the second exploit report.
I doubt it is legal to close an account with that amount of money, but I am not a lawyer. I did hear about Coinbase closing accounts for gambling related issues. Maybe closing accounts is part of their business model  Huh

i have decided to help Coinbase fix the exploit by telling them step to step instructions on how to reproduce the bug on hackerone. After they were able to fix the exploit i was rewarded a measly $5,000 bounty
It's odd that you got a bounty while at the same time your account was closed. Did you use the same username on hackerone and coinbase?

I didn't lose any money because of the closure of my account. What i lost was providing them more steps to be able to completely replicate the second exploit, which  i think i had given them enough. What i think they did was banned my account so i wasn't able to provide them with more info that they have requested from me and therefore they didn't pay me for the second bounty and closed my account for no apparent reason.

If coinbase is pulling off this kind of stuff to avoid paying me, you can think of what else they might be doing.

My guess is they don't want to pay you anymore to search for any more exploits in their system, which is why they closed your access to coinbase vault because they know that you're going to keep trying to find more, if you were able to get $5000 out which they paid you for the first exploit you pointed out then I don't see any problem with it honestly. You can email them and ask them that if there are any bounties for finding more exploits, if they say 'no' then just move on.

With your abilities I am sure you can get other bounties from various BTC sites, such as Exchanges, Casinos etc. but I commend you for not taking advantage of their holes and reporting them as a responsible person, not a lot of people would have done that.
664  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Alert Guys! (Multibit HD Hacker) Sends PM , on: December 21, 2015, 02:56:00 AM
I hav traded with Newbie to Sr.Member and i can say that with who-whom i have traded here on forum via PM are successful and with whom i have traded on skype have scammed me.

Hacking Guy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=406239
This time , i was selling Antminer 57 coupons , I sold 2/5 , and i received question on my thread that how many are left:

!!! WARNING: This user is a newbie. If you are expecting a message from a more veteran member, then this is an imposter !!!

Quote
1 )tell me how many coupons you
2 ) how much it costs each coupon
3 ) and what you will be paid
4 )and the method of payment
Total number of coupon is 3.
coupon value is 100$ , i will sell @35 usd each. 35 x 3= 75$
I will take skrill(prefer) or bitcoin.

Then i started receiving PM from xuli and some name which i cant pronounce(because i don't know how to read that)
here are conversations , he had a bank of 300+ btc and i as a smart guy asked him to throw some dust to my wallet, and story started.
as a conclusion , My acer i5 laptop is heating very much now , My task manager shows 100% cpu utilization , my antivirus(Avira) is corrupted.

I can still access my Multibit as i had two copies of it , once on this laptop and another on HP laptop.
Hope you guys don't install any money making software , he told me that this software will convert electricity to bitcoin.

Use brain , i lost nothing but could have lost if i opened my wallet on that PC(acer),
Now i have to format this PC with all drives , all movies,Songs ,Pic , Porn will be wiped out, that's all my loss.

Quote

Basically it was your fault that you installed a software on your PC of which you know nothing about and I am guessing it's miner virus and its using your PC to mine Bitcoins or probably some other altcoin and sending it to the guy who gave you the software.

Wiping the disk is the surest way of getting it off of your system but before that you can also, go in safe mode and remove it and restrict it from starting up when system boots up and then install a new antivirus+antimalware and then do a thorough scan. But since your PC contains your wallet, formatting it seems to be the safest option.

I'd consider that wallet compromised and therefore I suggest you to move your bitcoins to a new safer one.
665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Download BTC wallet so SLOW on: December 20, 2015, 04:15:12 AM
Yeah today my sync broke with no reason for the second time. Probably because my computer needed to restart.

Im download now since 6 hrs with my 25Mbit internet. It takes foreeever.

I have never downloaded/used Core because of this, I just don't have the space or bandwidth to even try it, I wonder how many people would use bitcoin if this was compulsory and there wasn't any alternatives such as Electrum etc. I don't think there would be many and this is why I think there should be some incentives for people who run the full nodes and provide services such as electrum servers.
666  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there a discussion thread on known scammers? on: December 20, 2015, 03:55:33 AM
You can move this thread there, change its title and add details (as it doesn't belong in 'Service Discussion' section in the first place) or close this one and make another with a [Warning] in the title and then you can describe how you were scammed, with proofs and it will protect others and prevent them from making the same mistake which you did.

I think you have already discussed it in this thread to some extent, so I would suggest just scroll down and you'll see the option of moving it to the other section, move it and add details+proofs in the OP.
667  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FRAUD ALERT - coinbase.com is a rip off!!!!!!! on: December 20, 2015, 03:12:23 AM
As others have suggested, you should be able to use old addresses, if you don't see the funds you received in your old address in your wallet then you should contact them and they should resolve this.

Kind of off-topic but there are other better alternatives than using Coinbase as a wallet, it should be used just as an exchange because if you don't own the keys then you don't own the bitcoins. Take some time and get educated on other wallets such as Electrum, Core etc. Even blockchain.info's wallet give you control of your keys but I still wouldn't recommend a web wallet.
668  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm dumping my bitcoins so you should on: December 19, 2015, 08:25:32 AM
There were so many threads like this when the price was around $220 and people who listened to these fudsters and sold their BTC or didn't buy at that time, lost their chance of making good profit when the price went up. I think OP is just another one of those people who didn't bought any bitcoin then and now is feeling bad about it.

Bitcoin has proven wrong these haters so many times before and its going to do it again. It gave everyone an opportunity to get on board when it stayed around $220 for so long, those who believed in it, made good money and the ones who didn't are feeling sorry now.
669  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to best escrow digital goods? on: December 19, 2015, 08:10:27 AM
Hi all!

So, I was considering at one point selling various gift cards on the forum for bitcoins.  One thing that I'd like (or, virtually need) is to use escrow, but it dawns on me, how would I go about proving to escrow that I indeed sent the item to the buyer?  I suppose I could send a copy of said gift card to the escrower, too, but doesn't that have an inherent security risk? (i.e, someone else other than the buyer now has access to the gift card....).

Thanks!

Celroc A

This is the problem with selling Gift Cards, especially Amazon gift cards because afaik there is no way of checking the card that whether it is claimed or not other than try to load it up in your account, if it does, its ok, if it isn't then nothing can be done about it. And even if you send it first to escrow, they cannot guarantee that it is claimed or not, because to do that they'd first have to load them up in their account, but they will not be able to issue another gift card from gift card balance.

And this is why it is a risk to both buyer and seller, a buyer can claim the gift card and say that it was empty and the seller can also sell bad gift card and escrow cannot provide cover for this. Which is why I think Bitify (formerly Cryptothrift) has now stopped sale of any gift cards on their website because they cannot resolve if a dispute arises.
670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help, 0 confirmation after 24 hrs + on: December 18, 2015, 05:00:35 AM
I think it is because I havent updated the app. I'm in no rush, if i wait it out it will eventually be resent to my account? Do you guys know how long it will take?

Actually the reasons have already been explained to you by above replies, one of the outputs in both the transactions are very small and which is why they may take a while to confirm and they might even not and get dropped if no minors accept them, in which case the funds will reappear back in your wallet.

You can update the app but the funds will only be shown in your account if and when that transaction gets rejected and pools forget about them, which can take up to 2-3 days or more. You can either wait or if you have some knowledge about rebroadcasting transactions you can do as suggested by ranochigo above, but I wouldn't suggest it since it seems you're still new to this.
671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we spread Bitcoin effectively. on: December 18, 2015, 04:46:10 AM
First of all it is too much to give away for free to anyone, with current price of bitcoin it would come to $4-$5 and secondly even if someone decided to do it, there is no way to differentiate between bitcoin newbies and veterans on-line and because of that it will get severely abused.

Also, anyone who is interested in bitcoin will ultimately find some giveaways on either this forum, social media sites such as twitter/fb/reddit, if they really have interest in Bitcoin.

Most important thing is education, if you really want to spread the word out, teach people around you about Bitcoin, make them understand the concept. If you bring in people by luring them with a giveaway, they won't stay in for long, they'll just look at it as easy money and will most probably leave when they see no other easy way of getting it.
672  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase has blocked me on: December 16, 2015, 05:41:50 AM
What did u used to purchase bitcoins ?
I linked my Coinbase account to my credit union savings account.

Without knowing any of the details about your account, I would say there is a pretty good chance that you were blocked because you sent BTC to or from either a gambling site or a DNM
No, the only place I sent BTC was to my own wallet. (And before I read your post, I never even heard the term "DNM", which I assume is an abbreviation for DarkNet Market.)

Quote
or sent BTC to LBC, in either case in fairly large amounts.
No, the only reason I got a Coinbase account was to buy bitcoin for myself.

Quote
It is also possible that you sent BTC directly to another exchange/bitcoin service (without going to your local wallet first) and clicked "no" when you were asked if you were doing so.
No, I only sent to my local wallet or a paper wallet. In one case I sent BTC to Coinbase so I could combine it with what I purchased, and send to a paper wallet in one transaction.

Quote
Did you ever send/receive any BTC to/from a DNM, gambling site or LBC to/from your coinbase account? if so how much was it?
No, all BTC transactions were to (and in 1 case from), a local wallet.

Did you access coinbase through a vpn or proxy?
No. I connected directly from a Comcast or AT&T fiber connection.

However, I must admit that I didn't tell the whole story. I am very concerned about identity theft, therefore I refused to send them a copy of my government-issued ID.

I also took an action listed in section 6.4 of their user agreement that allows them to deactivate my account: "You take any action that Coinbase deems as circumventing Coinbase's controls, including, but not limited to, opening multiple Coinbase Accounts or abusing promotions which Coinbase may offer from time to time."

I think the real reason was my refusal to give them my SSN, although they didn't explicitly say that.

Coinbase and similar exchanges like it won't let you buy/sell and even operate their wallet in some conditions without providing them your credentials, in-fact I have heard that now they won't let you open a new account and use the wallet until and unless you complete the KYC requirements and since you are not willing to provide them the same and since you seem to be suggesting that you had multiple accounts and/or abused their promotions, they have every right to block your account. If I were you I'd get my bitcoins out whilst they're still allowing it.
673  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What unit do you find more comfortable when measuring BTC values? on: December 16, 2015, 05:32:57 AM
I really like BTC. Even if the numbers are ugly, like 0.003254 BTC, i still prefer this. I dont like all the 700mBTC and 920 Satoshis...

I prefer BTC as well, although I am okay with mBTC and Satoshi but BTC is what I use in my wallet and it is what I use in my conversions, some people are now starting to use Bits a lot but I don't like to use it much. These are the terms I was exposed to when I started my bitcoin journey and I don't see any reasons to use newer terms.
674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When was your first "awareness" of Bitcoin/How were you made aware? on: December 16, 2015, 05:30:18 AM
Back in 2008, 2009, 2010 I was a standard irc user and would always type /list to see all channels on a given irc network.
I would sort by most populated channels first.  This was my weird OCD process, to see what projects, and technologies people were interested in on Undernet, Dalnet, eventually freenode.

Before bitcoin related channels existed on freenode, I used this method on some irc server(the network I long forget), and saw #bitcoin with about 130 people in it.
I joined, and as soon as I joined everyone was spamming their wallet addresses.  I asked why, and I was told people were sending 10, 50, 100,300, and other random amounts to BTC to each other when they were worthless, in turn strengthening the network.  This was late 2009.  This is when Bitcoin had no value.

I promptly asked what Bitcoin was about, and after getting the explanation from a few, I said: "Why would I use Bitcoin, when I can use debit cards online", and/or cash in person?
Then the person that responded said: Do you want to take part in global financial disruption, and become the new elite?

I promptly laughed, and said to myself, "wtf is this sh**", and left the channel.

Fast forward to mid to end 2010, is when I finally started taking it seriously after seeing early applications being shaped, and the beginning undertones of organized crime being interested in it.
When you know the darkside gives something a serious look, you know the early adoption means it has value.

Setting that 'dark notion' aside, I saw it for what it was.  I got in early, but not early as I could of.

Does anyone have any stories similar to the irc scenario?

I wish I was lucky enough to get to know about it then and the sad part is I was online actively everyday and yet I completely missed it, if I hadn't the story would have been a lot different for me, from what it is now. I learned about it last year, right before I joined this forum and I saw a program about it on Discovery/National Geographic channel I think and it was about a guy who had a lot of bitcoins but has lost its private key and it showed how bitcoins are still sitting there but no one can claim them and they're most probably lost forever.

It made me curious and I started googling stuff and that's when I learned I was quite late but still I joined here, learned about various things and here I am.
675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what happens to Bitcoin if internet goes down? on: December 15, 2015, 04:31:50 AM
The whole world will have a bigger problems than BTC

^Exactly this.

given the cayos* happening in the world i wouldn't be surprised of nuclear war and in this case i would expect internet disruption question is what happens to Bitcoin if internet goes down?

home internet and mobile internet goes down

do not mean trade bitcoin to buy/sell i mean using it as a way of payment say you wanted to send money to someone abroad for family far away

First of all it's *Chaos not cayos. And if a nuclear war happens, it will change everything, most of the humanity will die and rest have to figure out firstly how to survive because there wouldn't be anything left to buy, it will destroy everything, you'll have to search for food, water and shelter.
676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: whats the easiest way to give btc as a gift? on: December 15, 2015, 03:05:37 AM
im using coinbase for my wallet but if i wanted to gift some for christmas to someone who does not have a wallet, how would i go about it?

If you're gifting someone bitcoins who don't even have a wallet, make sure to keep back up of the paper wallets you gift to them, because say for some reason they lost the paper wallets or the wallet got damaged or they didn't find the concept interesting for whatever reason and the bitcoins went unclaimed, the money attached to those paper wallets will be lost forever.

If you keep backup, you can see after some time, if they claimed the bitcoins (by creating a wallet on their own and transferring the bitcoins from paper wallet to it) or not and if they didn't you can either claim it back or inform them how to create wallets and get hold of their funds.

There's a new service called Bitgreet, which lets you print Gift Cards with Bitcoin attached to them and it has an clawback feature, so if the gift cards are not claimed by the receiver, you can claim them back, but you have to trust that service to hold the bitcoins, whilst you can do the same with paper wallets printed offline without trusting anyone.
677  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Someone hacked into my BTC-E, what should I do? on: December 14, 2015, 05:11:02 AM
Someone hacked into my BTC-E, what should I do?

The fact that someone is hacked in there is not as bothering as that they know my password, even more - how did they obtain it, and if they can have more of my passwords, since I almost didn't use BTC-E (only couple years ago).

What do you guys think? IP is 46.161.58.106 and on "Status" it shows "Successful login"

* PS, what is strange to me is that I logged last time there on 2014 May 22'nd, after that date I believe I reinstalled Windows couple times. Also, the password is not some generic word or something like that, it's a "shake" of upper/lowercase letters with numbers, so it's not easy to hack I would think.

If someone was able to hack your password, even though you say it was a difficult one to hack means that there was a keylogger and/or a malware on your PC, who recorded your activities and transferred it to the hacker. Thing you need to do is first of all re-format the disc and install a fresh OS, install premium antivirus+antimalware softwares and do a thorough scan and after that change all the passwords of places which you think are important such as E-mail accounts, any services related to Bitcoins, Online banking etc. because they might be compromised too.

Contact BTC-E support, tell them to lock your account and you can sign a message from one of the address you deposited into BTC-E and they can restore your account after verifying that.
678  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Does anyone sell on localbitcoins? on: December 14, 2015, 04:34:13 AM
LocalBitcoins is a free market, it only acts a mediator for all the trades and handles if there are any disputes and because of that they cannot control the price, anyone is free to sell at any price they wish to sell their coins but usually traders who ask for extra price don't get any trades because any one can check the current Bitcoin price at Preev.com or similar.

Also, some traders who sell for extra price do that because they're offering trades for payment instruments which are considered risky, such as Paypal and this is why they ask for more than the usual price but I assume most people would avoid these sellers who ask way more than the original market price.
679  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Overview Bitcoin Paper Wallets on: December 13, 2015, 06:39:17 AM
Paper wallets are basically your private keys printed on a paper, they can either be encrypted or non encrypted and if we go by this theory then any bitcoin wallet such as Core, Electrum, Multibit can be used to make paper wallets. The most important thing to understand is that a Paper wallet is suppose to be a cold storage, which means you make this wallet OFFLINE which makes it completely impossible for hackers to know your private keys.

Any bitcoin wallet that can produce a Key-Address pair and can work offline can make you a paper wallet.
680  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 13, 2015, 06:19:25 AM
There is great chance for New Zealand winning this match, but if rain continues then the match will finish in a draw, so draw of new zealand is the bet of the day.

The rain did stop but the day was over and I don't think it'll rain tomorrow, SL must be praying to the rain gods because if there is no rain tomorrow, they won't survive, the only thing which is preventing me from putting everything on NZ is that it might rain again and ruin the Match. But rest assured if there is no weather interruption tomorrow, NZ will win this match comfortably because 2 more wickets and then SL will fall like dominoes.
