641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your biggest concern with Bitcoin right now? on: January 03, 2016, 04:49:11 AM
My biggest concern with bitcoin right now is the scams associated with it. It was difficult to trade with bitcoins on-line without a trusted mediator but even that is out of the question now because no one can be trusted. So if one wants to work on-line or do any sort of trades they have to take the risk of either getting scammed by the person they're dealing with or the mediator.

I can see now why some people stay away from using bitcoins. Anonymity has its advantages and disadvantages.
642  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Master-P's scammed funds summary. Post your case here if you were scammed. on: January 03, 2016, 03:17:58 AM

Again, if you haven't submitted a payment address either please post one here or PM KingZee to have it added to the OP so I know where to send funds to as they come available.

For what it's worth

This is my address: 1BiTbABybyRgYZkJm1pzr8w3Tj7PjVTqnN

I am one of the participant of the obits sig campaign:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1272862.msg13126409#msg13126409
I would say that the company you are advertising for should probably pay you directly and master-P refund that company (if the company does not pay you then master-P should instead pay you)....

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1272862.msg13420611#msg13420611

I request kingzee to kindly add my address to the OP as master-p owes me 0.18 BTC.

645  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Bitcoin always be dependent on fiat? Is it? on: December 31, 2015, 06:21:45 AM
Its called trade value, every currency is tied to the other in terms of their trade value, if you go to forex exchange, you'll see price of dollar in euro and vice versa, that doesn't mean that dollar or euro are tied to each other but thats the value they represent in other currency.

When you go to buy something which is not offered in the currency you wish to purchase it with you convert it based on its trade value, so for ex. you go to buy something with Bitcoins but it is only available in dollars you convert it to it and then pay for it. Its same if you find something which is offered in bitcoins only and you have dollars to pay for it then you would need to convert them first to bitcoins to use.

That does not mean that bitcoins is dependent on fiat.

PAYDAY
Jan 2nd 2016

The payday for this campaign was suppose to be 2nd Jan 2016 as mentioned in OP and therefore I'll carry this sig until then, paid or not I am going honor my part of the deal.

I think it would have been much better if this campaign was weekly instead of monthly so participants would have gotten paid a few times this month like the campaign manager did.
647  Economy / Gambling / Re: Looking for Best Christmas Casino Promos/Bonuses... on: December 27, 2015, 02:56:26 AM
Usually almost all the casinos have some Deposit/No-deposit bonuses, check out the "Promotions" page of any casino and you're sure to find all the bonuses they're offering, apart from that you can check out the Games and rounds section, it is where most of the bonuses and freebies are offered and if you're signed up at a casino you'll be notified of new promotions by emails, alternatively you can follow their thread here and their social media to catch these announcements.
648  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to motivate women to use Bitcoin? on: December 27, 2015, 02:47:01 AM
This is just a ridiculous and sexist thread. You don't need to motivate women to use it, do you motivate them to use fiat? You probably don't even know how many women use bitcoins already, what you need to do is just educate about bitcoins to people who don't know about it around you and it includes both women and men.

649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Work colleagues laugh at me getting into Bitcoin on: December 27, 2015, 02:38:01 AM
I have been telling my work colleagues about bitcoin now for about 3 years and they still think its a big joke.  I dont care because i believe that some day i will be the one Laughing......  I think alot of it is people dont like things they dont understand and would rather make fun off it.

So was just wondering has anyone else on here had similar experiences and how did you deal with it?   Wink

I had a few laughs at them when the bitcoin price doubled recently. I have a few people like that to whom I have explained about Bitcoin in detail but they never believed in it, in fact they even asked me to not put anything in it and I told them they were wrong and I will prove this to them, the price was around $220 when I told them that this is the right time to buy but they said it will lose this price too, I went and bought as much as I could and when the price went up I made my profit and I showed it to them and had good fun proving them wrong.

But the thing I learned is they are still skeptical after all and so basically the best thing to do is just ignore these people and let them be. Haters gonna hate.
650  Economy / Gambling / Re: Biggest problem with current Bitcoin poker sites? on: December 26, 2015, 07:30:09 AM
Got to agree with the op, there are very few players around in the various sites which is frustrating.  I also am not a fan of having to download poker software which a lot of the sites require you to do.

Agreed. I think the biggest problem with many BTC Poker sites faced and then shut down was lack of players on ring table, there were more than enough players to play the freerolls but rarely anyone sat on ring tables and its ok at first but it becomes a huge problem for site owners because they don't make anything from people playing freerolls. Another problem is the trust issue, the players feel like the software can be used for cheating and which is why they avoid playing with actual money.

This could be a solution to it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1206150.0
651  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where to storage the passwords? on: December 26, 2015, 07:19:16 AM
I use KeePassX to store my not so important passwords with a good master password, as I use different password for all the sites I visit and for important ones I maintain a diary to which only I have the access to, I also encrypt them using my pgp keys if I am going to store them on the PC and for private keys, you can encrypt them with bip38 whilst making them.
652  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 25, 2015, 03:42:20 AM
Tomorrow first one day match between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in Sharjah. For me it looks like Afghanistan going to win tomorrow's match. Last month only Afghanistan won the series against Zimbabwe at there home ground. Any one is up for betting on this match?

I too think Afghanistan may win tomorrows match. I may bet small amount during live match.

Yes now a days Afghanistan is becoming quite stronger and day a day there team performance is quite impressive. Zimbabwe even though old team but they are not strong compared to Afghanistan team so I'm very sure tomorrow Afghanistan will win this match.

I feel the same, Zim was once a good team but in the recent years they have lost their place, having been said that they're still favorites according to bookies and this is a good match to make some money. I don't think it will be a walk in a park for Afghanis but they have the potential to fight and take this match from Zimbabweans.
653  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Transaction not showing up on blockchain.info?? on: December 25, 2015, 03:34:24 AM
It was confirmed the minute it got in:

Included In Blocks     390010 ( 2015-12-24 20:53:01 + 0 minutes )

I think it was (is?) a problem with blockchain, I saw some others reporting similar issues yesterday, the wallets were not getting updated, if the problem persists OP the best thing you can do is make a back-up of your wallet (if you haven't already) and then just import the keys of the address containing the funds and transfer it to another wallet.
654  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are paper wallets really secure? on: December 25, 2015, 03:12:34 AM
Although all people will advice you to generate your paper wallets offline, I did it twice before online using bitaddress and nothing happened to my funds tell I spent them.
As long as your computer is not defected with viruses or trojans, do not fear about your paper wallets especially if they hold small amounts as you mentioned

i created my wallet on bitaddress website and its still safe and not hacked, my bitcoins are not stolen so i guess its pretty much secure though i dont have a lot of coins to be honest, to be even more safer i believe the only option is to buy a hardware wallet and deposit your coins to it

NO, it is not okay to make your paper wallets on-line and they're NOT secure when made that way, both of you need to read on about cold storage and the idea behind paper wallets, why they're created and why is it very much necessary to make and print them off-line. If you don't know about this then stop giving wrong advice to others.

The best way is to make then on a completely off-line machine but if you don't have a separate machine OP then just use an air-gapped OS.

Also, OP if you're giving them away as Xmas presents then make sure the people you're giving them to know about bitcoins and how to claim those, otherwise its just throwing money away.
655  Other / Off-topic / Re: The maximum bitcoin you have in total till now on: December 24, 2015, 02:51:30 AM
I have little over 1 bitcoin atm, I had more but I did sell some of it when the price went 450 and now I am just waiting for the price to come down, which I think it might take a while and it might also happen that it doesn't and it just keeps rising but right now I can't risk to buy more. The maximum I had at one point was 6.
656  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Can blockchain steal our bitcoins? on: December 24, 2015, 02:37:39 AM
Are you referring to blockchain.info?

If so, no, they can't.
They can easily feed you malicious javascript when you are logging in so your password goes to them instead of decrypting it in your browser.
So, yes, they could.

^This. They haven't until now (or maybe they have?) does not mean that it safe or that they can't/wont in future. If you must use blockchain.info's wallet then just use it for petty cash for day to day activities, if you use it for larger amount of funds then you're just asking to get robbed and it might happen one day.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You have so much bitcoins collected. what did you bought?..or wanna buy?... on: December 23, 2015, 06:21:30 AM
What do I want to buy with it? Every thing that I purchase/pay for online, which includes, computer accessories, mobile phones, online bill payments etc. It's just that the shops that I buy these stuff from usually every month are not interested in incorporating Bitcoin as one of their payment method, the reasons they do not wish to discuss, although I have asked them on various occasions and normally do whenever I buy stuff from them.
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many People Here Sell on eBay on: December 23, 2015, 06:13:23 AM
No I don't sell on ebay, I have heard various horror stories of sellers getting scammed by people who after receiving the product claimed that the product delivered to them was in bad condition and they received charge back for it. Its too risky, I'd rather find some buyers locally and deal them face to face then selling things on ebay.

This is the problem with selling physical goods online, ebay protects the buyer but there is no protection for the seller. Unless the goods are sent to a mediator which both parties can trust, these scams will continue but having a mediator in between for physical goods increases the shipping and handling costs and which is why even that won't work.
659  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: BitAdviser - Doubler and other scam sites tested on: December 23, 2015, 06:05:51 AM
There is no point in testing Ponzi/HYIP/Pyramid-Scheme sites because even if they have been paying over a long time that does not mean that they're legit, sooner or later all of them disappear usually after they have collected a huge sum of money and what you're doing will probably do more harm than good because it might make some of the newbies think that they're genuine when we all know that its not true.

Basically every site you can find listed in the Investor-based section is a scam. You might get your return when they're just starting it but ultimately you're going to lose money.
