962  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I smell scam here - I think bitmarket.io is a scammer on: May 14, 2016, 10:29:59 PM
I think that this situation is still weird. Two "hacks" as of now, is it the same hacker?
How is this actually possible for your account to get hacked. People with high trust should have high securtiy password and be fooled so easly(phising). Any updates?

What two hacks?  The claim is that it was a single hack (not necessarily a hack but that his password was leaked - either by bct, or keylogger, or another hacked site that he uses the same pw on).
- Single hack/phish of the account.

High Trust with high security?  Ha.  BCT isn't a high security site.  2FA would be nice, but doesn't exist.

Hackers/Scammers try all the time.  In fact, I had a spoofed number (ATT) calling me regarding my billing dispute (of which I don't have), and the Indian wanted me to confirm my account with my mothers maiden name.  I said, "You called me, I don't need to verify it."   He hung up.   The idiot then started texting me and hour later from a 305 area code as if he was my son (whom was sitting in front of me watching TV) and asking me where my parents met, pets first name, name of a high school I attended, etc etc for a report he was doing in school.  Yup, I answered every question he asked and hoped he did well on his report.  Of course, he might not get a good grade when he reports my parents met in Saturn and I graduated in 1942 from Nacho High in New Mexico.  (Obviously my parents were aliens and I was eating Mexican food when he was texting me while my real son was playing 1942 on the arcade system).

He was asking specific security questions used for my email.

PS.  My favorite part was when asking my mothers maiden name, I said it was the same since they were cousins, so she didn't have to change her name.
Also, he signed a message as my son with a name, but it wasn't my sons name.  It was the name I used a decade ago when I signed up for xbox live and later Steam.

There are others that have confirmed the phone number used as attempts at them have been made.  It's obviously bitcoin related.

Sorry, guess I should have started another thread.

Wasn't the BCT DB once hacked/downloaded and they required everyone to change their password once already?
963  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I smell scam here - I think bitmarket.io is a scammer on: May 14, 2016, 03:10:26 PM
I think $150 scam is prety much for his account, because people do one trade and the user gets positive trust.
I think it is too easy obtained, so that is why he got profit of his account this way. I think it all makes sense.

Uhh, what?
I am surprised you think $150 is a lot of money knowing he is selling an $7k coin and has history with not only bitcointalk, but with trading on IRC as well.

Your statement implies that he is a new user that just setup shop to scam someone for $75. - Ummm, his account is nearly 3 years old.
This is an old enough account to attract many scammers.  If you look at a search of similar users, you can see those being created...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=482768
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=508040
and many others.

I am not saying the two people scammed for bitcoin are wrong.  Had I seen the lending thread request, I would have also likely had fallen for it.  Knowing his reputation and for such a small amount, I would have gladly have sent.  It's simply not worth my time to go through all the possible verification to make sure it was him without a doubt.

Also funny are the comments made that he logged off after recovering the account.  Bitcoin may be 24 hours a day, but I sleep at night like most people as well.

If you don't mind me asking, how do we check the "Who's online" page?

Took me a while to find it as well....

Saved me a little writing ditto above. I'll say what others won't.  This is another piss poor half assed scam. Here's why:

Bitmarket.io's loan request is same writing style. Account activity same.
Wallet BTC funds went into belongs to Bitmarket.io
Does Bitmaker.io claim his wallet hacked as well?
Request made. Funds sent. Wondering what to do with a double send and goes offline (takes half n hour pondering and decides I'll say someone hacked my account. Transfers funds to new wallet. Sees postings about to tag Red and comes on to say Hacked? )

Give me some credit. A hacker isn't gonna wait 30 min to move funds; let alone move it to a New wallet and leave it there. Smarter scammers put it through a series now I've taught you something for next time.

Acting as if you wouldn't ask for something so small is nothing more than added fodder.

Inside job/scam.  Another pos on this forum Roll Eyes

Ummm, what?

I don't see the same writing style you're talking about. Being online while the scammer was online - uhhh, you call this same activity?
The funds went to a new address that hasn't been used before and hasn't been spent yet.
He didn't claim his wallet was hacked, only the bitcointalk account. - refer to the line above.
Not that you're wrong, but it sounds way off to me and you only made assumptions.

A scammer/hacker doesn't need to move coins at all if the address was his own.  I rarely move funds from my accounts unless I am spending them.

If he is selling a 10BTC coin for 18 (although overpriced) doesn't mean he is in need of a small or big loan.  Now, a scammer in a third world country would be happy as hell for $75 scam.

Would you be so dumb to ruin your reputation for $75?  I think not.
966  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I smell scam here - I think bitmarket.io is a scammer on: May 14, 2016, 12:23:04 AM
My account was hacked. Either the hacker knew my password and logged in or hijacked my session. Either way I have changed my password an hour ago. I'm working on getting this resolved.

I'm sorry for the victim here. I doubt you will recover your funds.

Anyone that knows me knows that I never asked for money/loans and never will, especially one so small, which makes no sense.

Fortunately, this can be easily solved.
bitmarket.io is the correct account.  Meaning, the posts were not from a similar or squatted account.
What makes this easy is that it's a very low amount.  The scammer was stupid enough to only ask for $75.

If it were me, I would just pay off the amount and save face (even on both loans and even though the second one was not asked for).

It's clear the password was changed after the fact (likely when bitmarket.io figured out something was wrong.  So, that scammer likely had the PW.  Less likely the session was hijacked.
bitmarket.io - tell us the password; I mean, you're not going to use it anymore.  Right?
- time to go through your password list and see where else you used the password, cause you don't use the password for all sites, right?

They are usually funded the year the coin is stamped

Curious - when you had the coin graded, did you fill out "2013" on the ANACS grading sheet, or did you fill out "2012"?

That wouldn't matter.  If it did, I will start filling out GOLD 10BTC (even though it doesn't exist).  Or put in a date of 2017 or better yet, 2008.

Since you have the coin on auction in another thread, why not close this thread down?  Smiley

Usually.

Almost all of my 2011 brass was funded in 2012

Examples (not that any of these are mine):
Brass 2011 https://casascius.uberbills.com/?address=1Cau1egFww53cSNhQCfaEdBcpD55QempAM Funded 2012-06-28 21:44:30

Uhhh, they effed up.

Yeah, the funding date shouldn't matter, it's the date on the coin, right? Tongue

Right.

Is this an auction or a new post?

Meaning, when is the end date?

Very nice, but the starting price is too high for me.

Good luck.
976  Economy / Collectibles / Re: PAPERBACK - Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies on: May 03, 2016, 02:07:26 PM
I appreciate that you have given us the PDF copy before the signed copies arrive but I was disappointed to see the watermarking on every page under text areas (not just on the margins).  There are clear identifiers on the left and right margins of each page that tell an ID number which is encrypted to most likely correspond to a purchaser which may have been sufficient enough.  I understand why you did the "under text" watermarking but unfortunately I had some strain while focusing on reading the PDF due to the feint blue text layering with the watermark and I'd prefer to avoid that.  Wink

Wasn't the PDF an afterthought?   Meaning, I bought the book to get the book.  I had no idea that a 'free' PDF copy would be available at the time of purchase.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with the thread either, else I would have opted to get the special/signed version.

Anyone want to sell me their copy not wanting to wait?   Smiley

978  Economy / Collectibles / Re: *22 remain* PAPERBACK - Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies on: April 30, 2016, 02:11:26 PM
i think watermark all .PDF's with the individual (forum) names would be the best way to prevent unauthorised spreading. And I would have my own watermarked copy.

Well, to prevent the spread of unauthed copies, you could watermark with the buyers full details.
This would ensure that MOST of us wouldn't even consider giving it out.
But, it would also just make someone buying it provide fake details.
So, it would not eliminate a spread.
