yes, i do that for testing but in fact Gen Tarkin said that we can't solomine with the asic because some wallets dont support stratum.  Cry. I never solo mine with my KNC Titan...

Thanks

Might be a limitation of the KNC software to not allow getwork, but the Innosilicon A2 units CAN be used to solo mine with via getwork so it's not an inherent "ASIC" limitation.

You COULD also run a "stratum" proxy to work around the lack of wallet support for stratum, I would think.

I wouldn't try it on Litecoin though - way too long to even have a PRAYER at mining a block solo with the current network hashrate.
Try something smaller like DGB or GAME might work, but those have also had their network hashrate grow a LOT over the last 3 months or so.

Sorry for the late answer.
Ok. In fact you say that the asic can solo mine but i must run a stratum proxy. But i don't know how to do that. Of course i would try with a small altcoin. Can you explain me how to run a stratum proxy ? Could you try to solomine ? I hope again  Wink  the Knc Titan is a very good asic. Thanks

A stratum proxy is generally for mining equipment that mines using getwork but you send that to a stratum proxy which then sends the work to a stratum pool .... not the other way around.
Meaning a stratum proxy is NOT for converting a stratum miner to getwork for wallet software.
To solomine u would effectively have to set up your own private stratum pool.
Or mine at a pool that simply offers solo mining payout scheme.

Well, good news ....
After about a thousand or so i2cget commands and referring to Ericsson docs and to the other working cubes and issuing a hundred or so i2cset commands ... I was able to get all the non working DCDC's up and running again. The dies are hashing away fine once again =)
KNC definitely has some custom configuration of each DCDC going on =-P

I wonder if any registers can be tweaked in the DCDC's for further power effeciency .. I mean these things have hundreds of configurable settings lol! its nuts.

nice job, but I think maybe we need to get you working on some newer tech

haha, well I do have an L3+ headin my way late september. Im sure by then it will be worthless but w/e ... maybe  Ill poke around on it =-)

Well Ive managed to brick one cube and another die on another cube just to be sure .... by running one simple command =(

Dont ever run "i2cdump -y CHANNEL 0x10-0x17"

Ive managed to put my DCDC's in braindead mode or worse ... fry the ASIC... Im still trying to figure out if the damage done is reversable =*(

If anyone else has ran into this and know the fix.... please share =)

Maybe my next firmware will have this "feature" lol jk =P

try "i2cdump -y CHANNEL 0x10-0x17 -undo"

seriously though, unplug it, leave it sit for a day or 2 then try again  -- silly Titans, this actually works quite often

haha nice one =P ... nope already tried that. Something about running that command alters the configuration of the DCDC's in a way that makes them not work anymore OR worse... kills the die =( .... Im currently working w/ ericsson to see if theres any key configuration of the DCDCs that may have been wiped out somehow that perhaps can be restored and get them working again.
They told me about a PMBus-USB adapter that can be used w/ their free software suite to see the configuration of the DCDC's on a board .... but ... .cant seem to find their adapter anywhere.. I wonder if such adapter is universal or product specific... no idea.

i try again and again but it works not.
This is my  manual conf in the KNC titan : http://192.x.x.x with my username and the password who are in mine conf wallet of the altcoin. With cgminer on my computer it works, no problem i can solo mine but bfgminer of the ASIC don't run. I forget probably something in the manual conf but what ?  If someone solomine with this asic, could you watch me your config ? Thanks and sorry because it's probably nothing but i don' t now what...
You're using :8332 on that URL, right? As I said, I'll take a look at this next week when I get back from DefCon, not too interested in logging into my central network systems from a very compromised city....

C

Why 8332 ?i am using the rpcport of the conf wallet. it's not the same with different altcoin.
Ok i will waiting no ptoblem and thanks for your help !

you cant solomine w/ asics straight to your wallet ... most wallets dont support stratum natively, only getwork
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: July 20, 2017, 11:00:59 PM
Ive read the whitepaper over.. couple things come to mind.

1. I cant help but get over the fact the "witness" nodes to me feel like "centralization", as-is mentioned ... trusted institutions, banks etc can becomes these nodes. Whats preventing a majority collection of "witness" nodes from rewriting history or manipulating stuff as they see fit? Seems like a huge shortcoming to a otherwise amazing cryptocoin =)

2. The analogy of "value/stability" in the upper portion of the whitepaper is completely incorrect. The document references bitcoin's volatility in fiat currency exchange and then turns right around and states something along the lines that "bytes" are required to pay for storage used in the DAG ... hence inherent value. Those are 2 completely different and unrelated value measurements.
If you are going to use the "fee of bytes" then you have to relate that to bitcoin's inherent tx cost in fees, btc is required to guarantee miners actually include your transaction in the blockchain. This has nothing to do w/ fiat exchange price.
When it comes to both crypto's(all cryptocoins for that matter) the fiat exchange price is derived from the same thing - If people see a use for it, they will buy it, causing rising prices... period end of story.

3. Does anyone find it ironic that obtaining the entire supply is FREE??? To me, that means theres no effort / competition in obtaining the supply, therefore its inherently not worth much. I realize it all comes down to if enough folks find it useful enough to justify the cost of purchasing more from an exchange ... but still. The advantages of this coin will have to blow away Bitcoin in nearly every aspect AND people will have to want to use it more.... for this coin to be successful, otherwise it will just end up being another 1 out of hundreds of alts that dont mean anything. Just my 2c

In the end, #1 is my most concerning question, if someone could answer it in a way that instills more confidence in the network, Ill stand behind this alt like none other. But if its easily compromised through the "witnesses" then there really is no point to this coin.

Quick update ... the 3amp buck converter works great for converting 12v from server PSU to 5v + 12v molex for controller board =)
Been running a few hours now =)

Using this one:

49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: A Hedge Against The $152 Trillion Ponzi Debt Bubble on: July 17, 2017, 05:58:40 AM
when you tell people "the dollar has lost 95% of its purchasing power in just over 100years; a nickle in 1915 buys what a dollar does today" ... some people ... get it and other folks are still blind as hell by the worlds largest ponzi scheme.
What we need is for people to wake up and see that simple truth instead of following blindly this chaotic, controlling, devaluating legalized form of slavery!
This will happen once whole system blows outta proportion into a hyperinflation or the US decides to fault on its debts, until then the sheep will continue to follow blind and feel safe.
50  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Electrum? Trezor? Safety? on: July 13, 2017, 02:59:55 PM
In case Electrum as a wallet/code/program dies and stop being updated etc. - are my bitcoins still safe? Will my private keys created on Electrum still be available for use on different platforms?
As no one seems to have addressed this concern as yet... private keys are really just very large numbers. They are NOT wallet specific. A private key generated by WalletA should be able to be used by Wallets B through Z (assuming of course that these wallets allow importing of private keys).

There are also several open source and freely available services (like bitaddress.org) that will "convert" private keys in multiple formats to (WIF, WIFC, HEX, B64, B6, MINI, BIP38) and output WIF, WIF Compressed, Hex and Base64 representations of these private keys... They provide full sources and are able to be downloaded and run on airgapped/offline machines etc.

The maths and algorithms behind all of the address conversions etc are also widely known and published.

In the specific case of Electrum, which uses a "proprietary" mnemonic to seed calculation method (ie. Not BIP39)... if you're super paranoid that the software may die and/or stop being updated... you can also simply store a copy of the source code or application on your secure pendrive along with your seed/keys...

or alternatively use the getmasterprivate() command on the Electrum console to get the BIP32 Root Key aka "xprv" (that can be plugged into an offline copy of https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/):

and used with a BIP32 derivation path of m/0 and m/1 to get your "receive" and "change" address/keys respectively.

That is really handy info! You saying those conversion tools can be used to convert Electrum priv keys?  That would be easier then having your own Electrum full node server =) ... in the event Electrums server network goes down.
51  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Electrum? Trezor? Safety? on: July 11, 2017, 12:36:16 AM
OP:
With your goals, I think u did pretty well. An encrypted "paper" wallet stored many places may have been easier.
Before dumping all ur coins, into your wallet, did you run a small test scenario on a different wallet using the same method? I always like to test my methods w/ a small amount of coin in case something doesnt work on trying to "spend" the coin, before I commit to dumping all my coin onto the same method =)

Lastly, what I personally like is Trezor backed up by a "cryptosteel" and a 2nd paper seed backup, or as many other backups you want to store or hand out to people =P
The reason why I mentioned the last part is("hand out to people" sarcastically), even if you gave your trezor seed to folks ... if you used the "password protected/hidden" wallet feature of Trezor, you arent really storing your entire seed on backup. The password you use almost "becomes an additional word in the seed" ... meaning, you can make as many hidden & unique wallets as passwords you can remember.
You could stage your bare seed wallet as a "decoy" so if your seed becomes compromise, someone would see the small btc stored on the bare seed wallet and never even think to brute force attack your hidden wallets =)

Anyways, Ive always thought it was a neat implementation on Trezor dev team part.

Also, Trezor + Seed + Electrum + Electrum full local node + Mycelium for android app(paired w/ trezor wallets) = high utility & high security & high reliability.
Another bonus is a Trezor can simultaneously store BTC, ETH, LTC and some other cryptocurrencies using the same seed(and password protection mechanism) =)

Anyways, I know your goals are quite different, but in case you ever wanted to easily spend some as you go, this is just food for thought =)

I can confirm that it is possible to power the Pi and control board for a Titan using a Micro USB plugged into the micro usb power port of the Pi. The screen on control board lights up and functions normally and the lights sequence on boot normally.

I have do not know what the power load is or why it works with no 12 volt. It can also mine, at least this is confirmed that it can mine with 2 cubes attached.

This was accidentally  discovered by someone that I just sold a Titan to and He has run miners with a Pi in the past and he has always had to hook up power to the Pi and did so with the Titan.

Just don't also power the control board with the molex.

the question would be if this works why does the control board need 12 volts?

If it is confirmed that the control board does need 12 volts would you be able to provide the 12 volt power to the control board using the molex with the red wire and pin removed and just use a server PSU to power the Titan cubes and control board, and the micro usb powering the Pi with the 5 volt?

That is hella weird.... LOL! lightfoot may know answer, if the controllerboard only uses 5v or not =P
If the controller board worked w/ only micro usb, that means it barely uses any power hrm.... since most micro usb adapters are like 1-2A max

Quick question....
Im trying to figure out a way to run Titan w/ server PSU thats 12v only. I know the control board needs a standard 5v/12v molex connector.
Would something like this be enough to power the control board portion on its own? http://www.dhresource.com/0x0s/f2-albu-g2-M01-68-35-rBVaGlRaLhGAAorDAALMge9NAuo472.jpg/hard-disk-external-power-supply-5v-12v-dual.jpg

Anyone have other recommendations how to do it?
Probably. In fact something like that would keep the bridgeboard from blowing up when the Pi shorts. But no, they don't need a lot of current, if you were technical you could solder in a 7805 regulator between the 12v and 5v lines.

Hrm... isnt the pi powered by the controllerboard? how would it prevent short?

Would something like this work to convert 2 PCIE 12v pair to 5v pair, then another 12v PCIE pair ... both pairs going into 4pin molex?

58  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy In The Dips Guys on: May 26, 2017, 04:11:09 AM
Do you really think that the price will not fall?
It will but not for long. If you want to short, you're welcome to try. If you're in for a long, it doesn't matter when you buys. The price will double after Segwit activation. We'll probably have over 3k in the next 12 months and over 5k in 2 years. Whether you buy in a dip or not is irrelevant.

Segwit or any other path which gets finally decided upon, isnt gonna do squat for the price. Maybe, temporarily but thats all.
Most traders dont even understand whats going on in the bitcoin ecosystem.

Segwit + LN = centralization of BTC ... ultimately it undermines some of the things BTC stands for, it will soon become a means of control, forget about freedom on the blockchain.

60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Shapeshift.io's world's first trustless asset portofolio platform on: May 25, 2017, 02:54:58 PM
Just for the record, this means ethereum contracts ( wallets ) can hold any token shapeshift supports. Like, you can hold bitcoin in your ethereum wallet by using prism. If you buy a token, say dash, you won't have to use a dash wallet aswell, or worse, hold it on exchanges.

You know the old bitcoin maximalist saying "one blockchain dominates them all. I think we can adapt it and say "ethereum wallet dominates them all.

Actually, this does not mean that at all. Say you make a "prism" of 1BTC. Shapeshift will then charge you a 2.5% fee and then a 1% fee every month (close to 12% annually) to "manage it." what happens behind the scenes is Shapeshift buys 1BTC and holds it. When you close your fund they convert it into ETH (using accounting techniques, not blockchain transactions) and send the ETH to you.

The counterparty risk they don't tell you about is if shapeshift goes bankrupt you can't redeem your investment.

There are more issues with this, find out more- https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@pawnuts/why-shapeshift-s-prism-is-a-scam

Thats interesting, its the first time Ive read that anywhere. I read something elluding to the opposite actually. Ive seen no evidence that shapeshift does anything behind the scenes to buy / sell the altcoins you specify in your prism smart contract. All Ive seen is they are specifically "tokens" in  a smart contract which use ETH as the stake against the performance of those altcoins. Meaning, its just a glorified, high fee betting system using ETH as the stake. Can you point me to where something says they actually "trade coins on the backened"?
