It seems you and Vegas had a fight  Shocked
You was partners and now what ?
I am pretty sure his version will work ok but is better if you will tell us what happen and you end the partnership ?  Huh

Long story short, he ended up abandoning the project and myself, not amicably.
He was unwilling to relinquish control of sales to me even when I offered just as many perks as he already enjoyed including the same profit splitting. So, he decided to leave claiming thats what I wanted of him, even when I telling him I didnt want him to leave. He left saying he would shutdown his site and ebay. A week later his ebay reopened, a month later his site reopened and now he is selling fake v1.0 dubbed firmware, which is really just my earlier test builds of "Energy Saver" (because he was testing for me).
He left w/o sharing the customer db with me. So I have no idea who my customers even are, Im rebuilding that from scratch and some of it even on good faith of the customers.

EXCITING NEWS!!!!:

Just finished up my first RC build of "Energy Saver" ... will be tested soon. Its almost ready for release woohooo!    ~ granted there arent any major bugs that creep up beyond this point ha! =P

@ Lightfoot ...

hey dude, give the tech docs a read for the DCDC's ... they are highly configurable, switching frequency and a whole host of settings like 90+ settings can be configured on these DCDC's ... u know more bout he electrical side of things than myself. Maybe you can figure out some more optimal settings to run these DCDC's at, I believe KNC largely just runs them stock cuz I dont see much in the code that really configures the DCDC's at all.

But all the safety precautions Ive coded into my firmware are based off the tech docs, such as overtemp & overcurrent situations etc...

Further to my post a few pages ago, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1283859.msg13519222#msg13519222

I turned my machine off shortly after as wasn't really profitable to run anymore in the UK, but the recent spike in rates on nicehash brought it back to life, after talking with GenTarkin I bought his custom firmware and it did cure the problem.

Here are a couple of other problems that my machine has, I'm sure you've come across them already but just for info in case you haven't

Asic 4, Die 1 (The Half Running Die)
I have quite a few of these across my 6 cubes, I presume this is just a faulty asic chip and nothing can be done

Asic 5, Die 2 (The Half Speed Die)
Have a couple of these as well, they will only run at much reduced speeds as the voltages are very high, these are a mystery and am curious on the problem.

Question, on ASIC 4 DIE 1 ... does that DCDC work fine after a power cycle? or is it permanently like that?
Also, due to only having one DCDC powering the ASIC I would suggest lowering voltage a bit more or lowering ur clock, that remaining DCDC is pumping over 46A which is way beyond spec for these DCDC's ... 43A is bout the max I would recommend for longevity. My upcoming firmware will attempt to power cycle the DCDC's to bring back the DCDC 1 thats messed up ... so in ur case if its permanently damaged u may have to turn off that ASIC entirely w/ my upcoming firmware release to prevent constant bfgminer restarts.

ASIC 5 DIE 2, I Theorize the voltage is a higher because there is barely any load on the DCDC's at that clock setting...compared to the load of a normal ASIC clock setting.

When are you going to release new firmware with all the features listed on your site?

I cannot wait for failover feature to actually try it.

failover feature?

Quick PSA:

Vegasguy has re-opened his site and updated his ebay ad.
I want to make PERFECTLY CLEAR ... the version he is selling is fake and unfinished, it is from my test builds. In the terms of version It is NOT the official v1.0 in fact, its my very unfinished and buggy code of the "Energy Saver" edition.  Several bugs Ive discovered since then can be detrimental to the Titan.
If you purchase from him, you will receive no support from myself(the creator of the current release v.99e).

Id like to remind everyone once again MY website & the official way to obtain the firmware is http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com

If any of you are upset about this as I am, I encourage spreading the word to let others know.

291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 29, 2016, 05:31:12 PM
That is a really, really smart idea. Covering those inductors was one of the more brainless things I have seen.

What do you mean by "covering"? ... the stock plate? Cuz that stock plate actually functions as a single large heatsink ... maybe a poor one but it still does its job.
Mrph. Most of the heat can actually be felt *under* the board which is the wrong place for it to be.

I haven't actually gotten a temp probe to play, but in almost all cases the real source of heat is not the inductor it's the high side FETs. And those get no air on the 1/2,3/4 supplies. And those are what is right next to the caps that usually blow sky high....

Yeah, the little FET's on there are also very hot. IIRC when I looked through the tech docs on those DCDC's it shows where each DCDC's thermistors are located. I believer there is 2 per DCDC but I could be wrong. The docs also specified 2 key points of measurement for cooling & airflow, one of them was the inductor. Grilling through the tech docs is how I ended up realizing why in most cases these things are being tortured and the way we run them the life expectency is drastically minimized. Which is why I recommend 85-90C webgui readout being the absolute max we push them to.

Gen Tarkin - Just ordered and sent the bitcoin I will let you know how it works.
Thanks
Do we get free upgrades?

Yeahp, I believe thats stated on checkout =)
Thats why account setup is needed, so upgrades can be attained w/o having to repurchase.
Also, please dont confuse upgrades with additional Titan installations. Technically an additional half price copy should be purchased for each additional miner.

I need to replace a fan on one of my KNC Titan cubes.  What replacement fans have others had good luck with?

Very happy with Noctua NF-A14, a tad louder than stock fan but cools much better.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFCRF1A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Curious, whats the DCDC temp difference you noticed?

They managed to keep temp below 80F during summer months, but I also added individual heat sinks to the DCDC module (like in Swedish video). Temp would go up to 90 when I was using stock fan.

Edit: mod pic

Do you mean 80C? ... so basically a 10C decrease using copper & improved fan?
If you meant 80F ... then I meant ... how much did the DCDC temps change as shown in the webgui =) .. cuz those numbers are in C

In stock confugration .. the stock plate just touches the tops(the inductor - where u put copper hs) of those DCDC's right?

Did you get a picture of your 'obviously' modified cut down 'heat sink plate' on the above also (or a link)

trying to 'man up' and do the same

on a side note I 'heard' from someone who got an email from kurt at knc (tech) back in the day ..that you put the 'thermal paste' on the 'heatsink' not the chip..just enough to cover it

not sure if legit advice or not (it is a knc tech) but figured I'd pass it along here .....perhaps we can have a debate on the merits of each Smiley

anyway my plan is if I ever do such I will simply take the 'heatsink plate' to a local metal shop ..give the guy 10 bucks to cut it 'precisely' and buff it up...lazy that I am Smiley

anyway again a picture of your mod would be great!

Traditionally for stuff like CPU's at least, you apply the TIM(thermal interface material) on the chip itself, in the form of a little bead in the center. The pressure from the heatsink being screwed down then spreads it out. This way you get a nice thin layer created by the 2 surfaces you're mating together. The TIM is only supposed to help w/ heat conductivity due to the imperfections of both of the surfaces. There isnt supposed to be a thick ass layer of it between the 2 surfaces, often times this will hurt thermal conductivity.
People & manufacturers tend to apply way too much TIM... lol...

If you want the best TIM possible there is this stuff thats miraculous for high wattage applications.
http://www.amazon.com/Coollaboratory-Liquid-Pro-Thermal-Compound/dp/B001PE5XAC

I used it on my hashfast cards, dropped the temps 20-30c ... Im not shitting ... I couldnt believe it at first myself.  The watercooling tube went from a mild warmth in my hand to to a near scorching feeling in my hand... the thermal conductivity of that liquid pro is fucking insane.   It should be, its literally liquid metal. Of course the hashfast cards were like 600watts or something.  These Titan cubes are around 270w(actual ASIC usage)(depending on clocks / volts), so liquid pro may not have that much of an effect, but it would help still somewhat. On second thought, if the heatspreader on the Titan ASIC is aluminium then cant use liquid pro =/

Also, keep in mind the Titan ASIC is covered by a heat spreader ... it could be mounted faulty as well and no matter how u apply the heatsink ... the ASIC dies may still be running hot if the manufacturer didnt mount that heat spreader right.

Also, as far as the actual temp of the Titan ASIC itself, its all guesswork... we have no fucking idea. Heck, some of these dies not working right may be simply because they are overheating either due to bad heatsink seating or the heatspreader is mounted like shit.
If the heatspreader is actually soldered to the ASIC on all 4 dies ... then the thermal conductivity of the heatspreader should be perfect.

We only know the temps of the DCDC's modules. Which is the copper heatsink mod posted above. Each one of those is a DCDC, 2 per die.

Thanks for the clarification GenTarkin. I think I would like to try the latest version. Thanks for the link.

NP ... hope ya like the firmware =) ... if ya do, feel free to spread the word =-0

I researched this software before making a purchase and you really have to dig to get to the truth. Here is the passage from the Readme.md file.
Located at:
https://github.com/GenTarkin/Titan/releases

Download the link that says source code. Its not really source code it is a small text file called ReadME.md and read the file. In the file you willo\ see this.

Upfront payment of $50 for version which has daily donation fee disabled.. see  this post for details & questions:

(vegasguy is handling processing & distro of the img for prepaid version)
TO PURCHASE go here: http://bitcoinlasvegas.net/kncminer-titan-custom-firmware-mod-paid-membership-page/

2. The version available for download as an img here on github in my releases, this has a built in .75% DAILY donation where your Titan mines for me roughly 11mins /day.

I bought the supposed version that is not supposed to have the code in it but I found it is still there. I would feel a lot better if they would come out and say that on the website. Maybe it is disabled and maybe its not. Who knows.

As far as I can tell at this point the free version has the donation code and the purchase version has it disabled. That is not as bad as I thought. I definitely do not mind buying it if it does not have the donation code.

This page explains it best.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg12194406#msg12194406

Just to clarify..... the donation version has been done away with long ago. The paid version DOES NOT do the daily mining fee and NEVER HAS. At one point I simply had 2 options of payment. Those who didnt mind donating a smll amount of hashrate to myself, or the pay up front version. Due to abuse, I got rid of the donation version.  You are correct to assume the donation code is still in the PAID version but its simply not enabled at all. I wasnt sure if I was going to bring the donation version back at some point so the legwork of the code was left - just disabled.

The reason the source isnt available except for people who purchase(which is my right as per open source licensing and the licenses used in this firmware) is to protect my code from simply being downloaded w/o payment. The source is free to inspect once you pay. The source code on github is a private repo, the public one I left available as a form of information about my firmware - it still has the release history & README files available to tell about the project.

If you are interested in purchasing my firmware ... my official website is http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com

Also, if you dont keep up to date on my news ... the latest is ... for the last 4 months I have been working on a release that automatically tunes all dies voltages for a given clock speed to optimize for the best effeciency possible while maintaing stability. I have invested much time into coding & testing this. Ive also added many features & fixes along the way for various things that came up in testing.

As always your efforts are much appreciated, any updates on the energy saving tuning have you made progress with that? will it be ready for you next release?

You know, at this point Im satisified with how it has been testing. The core code of automatic die tuning is very functional and seems to adjust to many different scenarios very well. I really need to get it tested on more rigs. I only have 1 tester at this point and usually only 1 - 2 rigs tested at a time. I need more. LOL!

I think I'd like to request dropping extra languages completely.  Tongue Especially if it has to rely on google.

Really, who needs it? Everyone who has a Titan understands it. Seems like a waste of time, development wise. Only my opinion, of course.

Well, if it makes it easier for others in other countries to navigate the interface & understand then, then Id say its worth it =)
