Another major feature I added in test build today:

Translation of the firmware webgui to 80+ different languages!

Little preview ---->

Latest update of my firmware currently still in development & testing:

Recently added new feature. Internet outage / no working pool handling.
When either of those situations is present the monitoring script will sleep on a 30 second timer rechecking every 30 seconds. This way the miner isnt issued constant hard / soft resets while the inet or pools are down.

Quick update: Switching the Titan to 300mhz/-.293 volts has resulted in 12+ hours, no problems or drops. I'm wondering if Titans (and Neptunes to a lesser extent) have a variable power draw off the DC-DC's which causes them to trip out at certain frequency/voltage combinations. Maybe it's harmonics or something.

But I do think that is what is screwing a lot of Scrypt ASIC makers, you can build a chip, but fueling it when the scrypt programming takes it across the board (now I need CPU registers, now I need to fuck with memory, now I need to play with the barrel rollers, now I need....) will cause your power levels to be wacky. Ergo why not a lot of chip makers seem to be succeeding in this realm.

Well technically all ASIC mining hardware has variable power draw(load) from their power source.
Whenever theres a new block, work restart, network connection issue, pool lag. Hell I wouldnt be surprised if it was even more sporadic then just those, IE: If the firmware that queues work up for the ASIC's is written horribly ... it will cause all sorts of non full queues (cores doing nothing at any given moment).

Its highly possible that the ASIC you mentioned above is just a horrible chip off the block and requires insane voltage to run stable.

Clarification update!!! PLEASE READ!!!!

I have NOT POSTED a new ebay ad yet. The one currently on ebay is not the official source of the firmware. Currently the only official source is my website: gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com or myself directly.
I will announce when & if this changes.
I will announce when & if I post a new ebay ad.

Until then, any purchase made from sources other than listed above will be NOT BE ELIGIBLE for free updates to the firmware!

306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 12, 2016, 10:57:06 PM
So does anyone have any spare non-titan controller boards laying around or useless to them? I'm tired of everyone throwing around the idea that the titans could use a neptune board or vice versa. I'll pay someone for a working neptune controller board just to test it out and get everyone to stop talking about it and just have the information if they can be interchanged with an added Pi + Bridge or not. Who's willing to give up their neptune controller board for 70 USD? (= 100 CAD).

Why not someone just email knc ... I emailed knc questions bout their firmware and they got back to me in a couple days.
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 12, 2016, 03:54:40 PM
Which factory

Put scypt power

At network

Yeah, I just checked hashrate. I think its just variance, theres been a bunch of spikes up this high within the past few months but overall diff has very slowly risen. So ... theres not too much going on in ASIC world of scrypt. That is unless this hashrate keeps up then we are all in trouble LOL!

At least LTC's diff isnt rising like BTC's diff ... yikes!

Update:

Going forward, all sales will be handled exclusively through my website: http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com

I will eventually create a new ebay ad as well, which will link to my site for clarity and customers of sales made on ebay will use my site as a portal for receiving my firmware & future updates.

All proceeds from sales on my site will go to the the developer of the project(myself).

I do not have access to the customer list that vegasguy maintained so  ... I will have to try and figure out my customer base from scratch. Anyone on here this forum that has purchased firmware using vegasguy's site can send me a pm w/ ur email and subsequently create an account using the same email address on the new site.  I will also need to see a copy of the confirmation email received when ordering from either vegasguy's site or a paypal receipt from ebay showing that the firmware was purchased from either source.
**NOTE** For the above ... customer verification only needs to happen when I release a new version of the firmware. So, there is no rush on this.

vegasguy has closed the portion of his site for my firmware permanently, has also removed the ebay ad.   ... or so he says and has done, but may eventually try creating new sites .. etc..

Sorry for the inconvenience, I ask the community for patience as I sort this all out. I do plan on releasing the "energy saver" edition after this gets settled.

MAJOR RELEASE 3.3.16 - v1.0.0

wait for it.....    Wait for It............  WAIT FOR IT......................

RELEASE of GenTarkin's Mod ~ Custom KNC Titan Firmware v1.0.0 IS FINALLY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Previous customers: head to http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com/custom-knc-titan-firmware-myaccount/ to obtain your FREE UPGRADE and license key(s)!!

New / Unverified previous customers: head to http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com/custom-knc-titan-firmware-shop/ to purchase!!

RELEASE NOTES:

Major Features, Additions, Fixes & Changes:
Added the long awaited “Energy Saver” feature – automatically tunes die voltages for highest effeciency while keeping the die stable as possible & hw% low. ~~MORE INFO HERE!!! ~~
DCDC Over-Current protection – any DCDC’s detected above 46A will be issued a die reset, if that fails then die speed is clocked down significantly to prevent DCDC failure.
Long Term Stability checking for all dies – bumps voltage up on a die if it becomes unstable more than 2x in a period of 2 days.
Per RPI Cube Tracking – if cubes are added, removed or moved around their last known clocks and volts on a given pi will be restored.
Internet outtage / dead pool detection to prevent miner from constantly resetting itself.
Slight webgui redesign.
Product license activation.
Full Copyright & end user license information.
Much smaller installation file.

Additional Features, Additions, Fixes & Changes:
Full translation of webgui pages to 80+ different languages.
Logging file output format refined and also includes more timestamps now.
Optimized timing of die / cube soft and hard resets.
Fixed format of advanced.conf file not being updated properly when user changes/removes/adds cubes or manually sets dies OFF.
ADVANCED page now shows which dies(if any) are being throttled because of DCDC over temp threshold.
ADVANCED page now auto refreshes every 5 minutes.
Noticed in rare cases dies are configured with positive voltage – wrote correction code for this.
For “Energy Saver” implemented cross reboots internal data array tracking capability.
Ability for user to save Log Files to a file to be posted or emailed for diagnostic purposes. (This is part of the Energy Saver options).
Added BALANCE strategy to MINER page – this may work better than LOAD-BALANCE for some users.
Removal of BFGminer version option – in testing 5.1.0 works best with Titans – can re-add later on as an optional installation file if demand is high enough.
More fixes to KNC’s shoddy code.
And many more small fixes / improvements too numerous to list.

All the previous firmware features and improvements are included!

Now … you’re probably asking yourself “yeah yeah, but how much do all these wonderful new features cost?” Simple: $75 first full copy, $35 for additional licenses.

Verified Previous Customers: The upgrade to this firmware is completely FREE for the number of Titans the previous version was purchased. Additional Titans require additional license purchase. If you created an account here previously then you will find license keys issued to your account. **NOTE** If you have not created an account on this site and verified your previous purchases, please contact me - http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com/custom-knc-titan-firmware-contact/
--
New Customers: Prices as detailed above.

***IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTICE*** – Upon upgrading to and activation of this firmware, its EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to keep track of which license was used on your KNC Titan(s). An easy way to do this is create backups of your Titan(s) after activating, then keep record of which backup went to which Titan.

***PRODUCT NOTICE*** – upon purchasing / obtaining this software, the end user agrees to the license terms set forth here(this file is also contained in my firmware): gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com/gentarkin_mod/LICENSE

309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 11, 2016, 09:33:46 PM
Tarkin, question: Does your source code fix the issue where a power supply literally disappears? I've had this happen twice on a Titan in, power cycling clears it and it is different supplies at different times. If your code fixes that then it is exceptionally "worth it" as trying to power a die with a single supply will result in a blown up component quickly...

If you have PSU's randomly disappearing from your Titan then you have some burglary you should check into =P

On a more serious note, are you referring to dies which eventually stop hashing and a power cycle is needed to bring them back?
If so, then yes, that was the first thing I addressed when I bought my Titan, just to see if I could issue power cycling of the dies as needed, automatically.

That was one of the reasons I started writing the firmware mod, once I found out this was possible a whole galaxy of cool ideas were born and thats what my firmware is today =)

So, my firmware will power cycle the DCDC's of a cube when a die on that cube is detected as being "sleeping, dropped off, stopped hashing ... whatever you wanna call it" ... so far, taking into account peoples success w/ my firmware. Id say about 99% of the time my firmware brings those dies back hashing =) .. it works flawlessly 100% of the time on my titan.

If theres a true hardware problem w/ ur titan tho then of course my firmware cant do much bout that =P

Check out all the features of my firmware here: http://gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com

I just read my site and seems I didnt have that clearly stated in my list of features of firmware. I stated it in paragraphs above it but I can see how that can easily be overlooked. So, I just tweaked the list and wording a bit =)

Oh wait wait, I just reread what u asked. Are you talking about one of the DCDC's disapearing for a respective die but the die continues to hash?
If so, to answer that, my firmware on its current release does not address that problem. Its rare and I didnt catch it for a long time.
Sometimes when it does that it will drive the single remaining DCDC as hard as it can and pulls near 50-60A through the poor thing =( ... eventually the DCDC will simply just shut itself down because these DCDC's do have overcurrent protection & overheat protectio(both extreme cases) built in. If the DCDC doesnt entirely shut itself down it will go into a current limiting mode where it will give the ASIC all the power it can but in a very spurty manner, so the ASIC can hash at roughly just over half the speed(half the output from the ASIC will be HW errors) while the DCDC can remain powered on.

The next release my firmware will catch that condition and it will power cycle the affected ASIC and bring both DCDC's back online(given that one of the DCDC's arent permanently damaged).

The intial and primary goal of my firmware since its inception and to this day has been to bring "sleeping, dropped or w/e u wanna call them" dies back to a hashing state. In order to do this my firmware issues cube power up / downs to bring back the affected die(s). In order to carry out a full power cycle on a cube bfgminer has to be stopped prior to the power up / down then started again after the power cycling.

Interesting. Did you power down the die by dropping the DC-DC's to zero, or did you use a command in the KNC chipset? I don't see anything big enough on the board to be a 12 volt interrupt.

Quote
As to why the pi may be rebooting on your. The pi reboots whenever it detects communication via the i2c bus to the controller board stops working(most likely due to the controller board locking up). Rebooting the pi instructs the controller board to power cycle & reflash the binary code to the FPGA which reinitializes the FPGA on controller board.
Interesting. That explains why when I fired up a 2.00 code set on my Gen 1 Rpi it kept rebooting. It's something in /etc/init.d, I stopped it by moving all the files in there into a "fubar" subdirectory. Whatever works.

Now working on compiling the code to run on a straight beaglebone+neptune. Should work....

a, The DCDC's are programmable, so powering down the die is accomplished by issuing the DCDC's power off and on.
b, Yeah, there are versions of Titan which refuse to work w/ anything higher than like v1.03 firmware. Im not sure exactly what the difference is. I have yet to been able to remote into one of them(if anyone would let me) to see if I can figure out why the i2c bus refuses to work on these titans w/ anything higher than v1.03 =/

I just got back from vacation everyone. "Energy Saver" coding & testing will continue soon I hope.
Also, I will clear up confusion about the gentarkincustomtitan.pcriot.com website soon.
313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 05, 2016, 10:32:14 PM
Just wondering why does the v.99e restarts the Titan or BFGMiner every 4-5 hours. I have set the max temp at 90 and all of my dies are staying below 70 now that its cooler here. None of the dies are bad, Current (A) is between 37-40 @ 300 MHz.

Rebooting the pi instructs the controller board to power cycle & reflash the binary code to the FPGA which reinitializes the FPGA on controller board.

The controller board hanging like this, Ive witnessed over time are completely random. It can happen more often when voltages & clocks are being changed. (in some cases it will happen much more often during tuning of dies when my "energy saver" edition gets released)

Its most likely caused by shitty code running on the FPGA, which unfortunately is completely closed source.

Like an idiot I cancelled the SATURN (damn) but was TOO overextended with not knowing if I'd ever get 1) BFL equip or 2) refund...did get a miracle BFL refund 1 year and 20 days
later thru luck of FTC coming after them (3 week window before the FTC shut them down) ...but in 20/20 hindsight I guess it made sense to punt the Saturn...damn should not have done that!

made 53 btc off that Jupiter....good times it ROI'd in like 3 weeks lol Smiley

any other good 1st posts you guys can find in your posting thread from back in the day on here...my actual oldest post is this one in the swedish miner area here

(such a cute clueless newbie I was....BTC at the time/date 124 bucks a BTC or so ...I figured I'd never ROI .....even so happy newbie...boy was I wrong 6 weeks after I got the beast 1100 usd btc)

anyway just thought  it was funny my oldest post on here is the above

others have an amusing 1st post on this thread?

Yeah, pretty much only first gen ASIC's were the real crypto makers in this game. Everything since then has been a race to make back ROI over a year w/ barely any profit beyond that, and by that time upgrades needed to happen to stay in that race. So, its constantly a cycle of not making much at all LOL! ...
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 19, 2015, 08:52:04 AM
Well, Im confused ... all that command states is the board powered up fine. LOL! So Im still not sure how that indicates failure.
Oh ok. Quick summary (I have all of this in my other thread, I really don't want to screw this one up with endless tech prattle)

On a "bad" board:
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d# io-pwr init
TPS65217 OK. Modification A, revision 1.2
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
Wrong ENABLE value 0x09
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
Wrong SEQ4 value 0x40
DC/DC converter configuration failed!

On a board where I pulled the shorted cap
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d# io-pwr init
TPS65217 OK. Modification A, revision 1.1
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d#

io-pwr is the command to fire up the DC-DC converter. It puts out three voltages. If a cap is shorted it detects the crowbar and fails.

Ah, now makes complete sense ... being that you showed me what an erroneous output from that command, on a bad board, looks like =)
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 19, 2015, 01:30:00 AM
What does that say about failure?
Well, before the chip would never fully power up, it always gave those stupid errors. Now it comes up clean and oddly enough the red LED is lit on the board (it never did that before). Given that pulling the cap cleared the short, I can say as a flat fact that the cap shorted.

Likewise the similar short on the other board makes me think this is not uncommon.

As to what it says, it might say that either:

a) The FPGA runs super hot and fries the caps (I doubt this a lot)
b) The caps are lousy quality and suck Goat Cock (given the # of blown caps I have seen on the hashing boards I wonder).

Will have to work on it a bit more to verify, but more busted boards would help.

Edit: After pulling the trim caps on the other board, the chip seems to be up: Advanced tab now works. I think I have a cross-verify. We'll see.

Well, Im confused ... all that command states is the board powered up fine. LOL! So Im still not sure how that indicates failure.
317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 19, 2015, 12:58:28 AM
Yep, I figured out why the Neptune (and possibly other) boards have been failing.

root@Neptune:/etc/init.d# io-pwr init
TPS65217 OK. Modification A, revision 1.1
root@Neptune:/etc/init.d#

Yaay! Happy me.

What does that say about failure?
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 18, 2015, 10:59:22 PM
Yes the FPGA code is different for titans vs the SHA knc products for the controller board.
Sure, but isn't the FPGA microcode loaded as a part of the boot up process?

Yeah, its loaded into the RAM on the controller board and executed. Thats why it has to be loaded up each power up.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 18, 2015, 05:08:32 PM
My Titans controller board is not working. Only one led light is green. Display doesn't show anything. I can connect it but it doesn't find any miners. If anyone knows what to do, please tell me. Also, if anyone has spare controller boards to sell (Titan controller card is compatible with both the Jupiter and Saturn controller cards) please pm me.

don't think they are compabible from what is on this thread...what you can do is replace the raspberry pi B+ (512mb is it) in case it is the PI..if not you have a 40 buck PI to play with.....there is a guy selling Titan bridges here...so see if that is burnt out (between pi and main board)

again as far as the 6 port board from what I understand they are the same but the FPGA chip is programmed for scrypt on the Titans not sha-256 on the neptunes/jupiter/saturns/mercurys etc ..thus it won't work *unless knc in the goodness of there ..hell i can't even fininsh that line...knc won't release the code for such..)

So those are your options (could be a ribbon ...try a different PSU and leads.....check the ports (solder points) on the controller board)

others on here will have better info ..all that comes to mind .....I have limited skills...just the above is what I think is correct.

Very similar, now who has the balls to pull off the Pi? Oh wait, is the Pi on top of a board by default? Then That is how they did it.

Ok, now I see. What KNC did is this:

It looks like they took the Neptune board:
Added a cross connect board to map the Beaglebone pins to a Rpi. Added lights and a U4 thingie. Maybe a clock crystal or a VRM.
Plugged cross connect board into Neptune board
Plugged Pi into cross connect board
Uploaded code into the SPI ports on the FPGA
Went to town.

You can probably build your own cross connect board by looking at the neptune pins, matching them to the BB Black pins, then cross-mapping those to a Pi. Power, SPI, GPIO ports, done. Or just pay the guy above who did it.

Yeah that's basically what I did to make the Bridges. So I guess it's settled then. We can use neptune/jup boards with titans (as long as we get a Pi 512 RAM and a bridge to connect it to the board). Good to know.

huh....? I thought the FPGA on (software) on the 6 port board was different and knc would not release such? want you to be right thou ...clarity...GLEN we nee CLARITY ON THIS!
(yelling does not help but makes me feel better as I type this and shout at bitcointalk ...man  I need a life)Smiley

Yes the FPGA code is different for titans vs the SHA knc products for the controller board.

Well, due to complications and my desire to get "energy saver" done and released asap... the cube historic settings tracking feature may be postponed till a future release after "energy saver" =/
